She didn't try to stop him when he opened up the shells for her. It was a rather cute gesture, truth be told. He was a gallant creature indeed. Her mouth curled up into a smile and she ate every time a piece of fish entered the scene, and she drank of the cup that had yet to be emptied. The food took away the buzz, thankfully, but she was still left looking at him over the rim of that jeweled object that made them feel like they were dining royalty.
"What was he like?" she asked softly.

"Solemn," it was perhaps not a word most would use to describe their father but he would smile when he said it, "When he had something to say he would say it but he was a man of few words until it really mattered. He was an advisor who most might abhor because he would not advise unless asked directly and even then it was a moment before he would reply. He considered all the angles. As a father it was difficult when I was young but he allowed me to simply ramble, as I am doing now..."
When he realized it he would clam up slightly breaking apart one of the clams. He'd been shut down before when he'd done so by his superiors and it had become habit to catch himself and stop it.

"I don't mind if you ramble," she said. Truth was, she didn't mind it at all because she found his voice soothing. She ate her fill of fish and then sipped at the drink she had been nursing.
When he clammed up, she tilted her head and said, "I mean it. It's only the two of us for gods know how long. Conversation will keep us from going mad from silence." She smiled and reached her free hand out to touch his arm.

He found he believed her. Her expression one of kindness instead of disregard for a man who tended to be open with those around him. It made him smile in return and he'd place his hand over hers. It was warm against her own, rougher for the calluses, and yet the touch was tender enough to give her the impression that while he wielded a sword he also knew how to be as gentle as he could be brutal.
"Perhaps then I will tell you more later, for now I would ask for you to tell me about yourself, about your life before... this."
This seemed an apt descriptor for their situation. He knew the world was different, that these things were different, and that well, that meant there was no going back. Still he wanted to know if only to hear her speak.

She tilted her head, "There isn't much to tell. I was born in a place called Vessia, a war torn land, and I grew up with a most boring childhood of learning to be a lady. Speak only when spoken to... Only to be pawned off to a man I didn't know or love who frightened me so. So I ran. I found myself in a forest called the Usque ar Nalma, a magical place where I felt like I belonged... I was there for a few months with an elf who rescued me from starvation and thirst. He was very kind to me. Then the floods happened and somehow I made it here alive." She shrugged as she kept her unremarkable life story as short as it actually was.

Jun of the Celadine

Roleplay posts: 292
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

"By the forest I can't believe how lucky we were."
Jun climbed up one of the larger rocks on the beach to get a better look around, and also meditate. Outside of Vinya Lahnn, the region they arrived in was some of the harshest desert she'd ever seen. The heat oppressed her despite the fact that there was miles of water behind her.
An Usquean expeditionary camp had set up a mile down shore. She volunteered to get a preliminary analysis of the place on her own. She saw there were rocky outcroppings here, possibly rare minerals, and a few decent fishing spots. But it was nothing compared to what the forest colony had to offer.
"Then again, maybe there's less to offer in the way of deadly creatures too."
She closed her eyes and tried to get a feel for the lifeforms in the area, that is if there were any. As usual, the power of the mists suppressed her abilities. But her months of practice and perseverance were paying off. It was like trying to sense what was around you in the dark. After a while your eyes adjust. And if you're there long enough, your hearing improves.
...
Something pinged her senses.
She opened her eyes, and her head darted north. Little orange lights twinkled in the distance. The Usqueans were setting up fires. It was getting late in the evening, and though the desert heat hadn't fully dispersed, foreign refugees had warned them that the chill of the desert night was just as deadly as the heat of the day.
"Nevermind, guess I'm just paranoid."
Wait a second...
She turned her head south, and saw similar lights shimmering and bobbing about. Her head swiveled back, and forth, and back again.
"... Ok, I'm pretty sure that's not how mirages work."

Roleplay posts: 56
Age: 20
Appearance: The look like a light Portuguese Man O War with a brain. It's brain cavity is clear allowing you to see inside it's body. The tentacles are long and lets them move around quickly and attack themselves to others of their species.
Equipment: They sometimes carry living weapons made out of other Synchs
Skills and Abilities: Using other members of their species they are able to shape their bodies to look like other species. Their mimicry is imperfect and normal intelligent species are able to tell the difference. This process involves synchphons analyzing their target and attaching themselves to each other to shape themselves. This process takes them about half an hour.
Magic helps this process and allows them to change colors to match the species or environment.
They can mimic abilities of other species when they shape shift. The abilities they copy are not as strong as the thing they copy, depending on the power level. They first transform into the user and see the ability in action for them to be able to replicate it.
Given that they are are colonial organisms their bodies can be cut into prices multiple times and are able to regenerate in a couple of days. If their brain is damaged however they die, and the body returns to their colony. Some parts are able to photosynthesize.
Usually they live underwater but are fast climbers and tunnelers because of their hardiness.

Creepy beady eyes stared at the far away lights of the Usquean camp. Reno the football sized jellyfish looked at them with spite and fear.
Their colony had already formed a long connection from the river to the lake where they met that strange faceless creature. They and their people did not like these creatures, not one bit.
These other ones that had faces where more tolerable. The cold of the desert was nothing like the cold of the water, but it did slow him and his companions down as they began their scouting of this new unfamiliar land.
This new home was dry, too dry for their taste. To fix this they started with building camps, strange mockeries of the huts and tents the strange tall creatures made. They also made water bubbles inside their homes, made of magic, that trapped water inside without evaporating. With these bouncy water bobbles they can live with relative ease.
They also tried to replicate strange tiny sun that these monsters had made. The synchs themselves did not know what these suns where made of, so they supplemented them with their own, brainless versions. These did not produce heat however, just a yellow and red light.
Reno's other brethren had already started trying to assemble themselves into the shape of these strange creatures. Reno themself was not going to, since it was their job to scout with their friends and find new bases, but they did find it tempting to be a little taller.
Currently they were a tiny mass of coral synchs and a large tentacled arm, with 7 'fingers' that had loose nerve endings poking out of them. They had three tiny tentacles below their head and a cape made of jellyfish like flesh.
They waddled around cutely, and pointed it's large tentacled hand to the 'armory'. They ordered their two friends using a sign language and chirps to gather some parts for their expedition. They came back, having hopped on top of a bundle of jellyfish flesh and bone. After they got everything they nodded to each other and set off, entering the unknown and cold dark. Their chirps and walking could be heard . Their first order of business? Find an oasis.

Jun took a deep breath and climbed down from her rock. Her mind's eye swiveled around, poking, seeking. She smirked. So there was life here.
Sand fleas. Barnacles. Sea weed. Jellyfish. Gnats. Creeping clouds of innumerable somethings. Lifeforms she couldn't quite describe, but still familiar. Digging clams. Little bitty crabs.
She felt relieved. No matter how dead a place looked, there was almost always life. At least the lifeforms hidden in her gambeson were in good company now. And she had a lot of potential partners to experiment with. This was good, as all her most powerful familiars were either guarding her friend Avalux or patrolling Vinya Lahnn.
Most of the life she felt around her was going about its daily business. She felt little emotion from the creatures. Their collective wills and behaviors embodied a sort of harmony, like music, occasionally punctuated by a violent note. Predation, feeding, sex, just usual life form things. She figured the glowing lifeforms in the distance were some sort of bio-luminescent algae colonies or something of the like. She wondered what sort of elemental affinity they had.
But then that harmony was interrupted. Like retreating waves, she felt the "sound" push away from an epicenter which came closer and closer.
The pushing away effect, the retreating wave of nature, it was almost always a sign of something foreign and nasty. The mist loved occasionally throwing unnatural, ugly somethings at them.
"Shit."
Once more, what was approaching was definitely not a bio-luminescent algae colony. Those typically did not have legs. And they certainly didn't project hate.
"Double shit."

A large mass of colorful matter slithered in the sand. Tendrils and bone shaped like a boat sailed in the sand as if it was swimming. On top of the mass where three heads, each looking in a different direction.
Reno controlled the large body, trying to find signs of an oasis for their camp. Their queen and people wanted to expand now. Their thoughts where filled with spite and dreams. They plotted on how to destroy all those pesky creatures that where larger than them and they dreamed of being praised for pioneering their expansion.
Some other expedition of their crew had spied on the camps outside, but still did not understand what these other creatures where. They spoke mostly in words, which they did not understand. They built by using tools and parts of other things, living or dead, rather than their own cloned flesh.
Reno extended their head, using a long tentacle, and raised it high enough to be able to get a better view. Despite looking derpy, a few creatures scurried away as they saw the synchs. Reno wondered if copying some of those barking creatures would be a good idea. They made sure to be able to at least see the lights of the human camps, so they do not stray too far from the danger.
They could not find any fresh water in their small survey of the nearby area. They knew they had to find some new place to colonize. Suddenly they felt like they where being watched. Reno signed to their friends to hide, which they did, hiding underneath some rocks and sand.
Reno went alone, holding a tiny jellyfish like ball of light attached to a tube coral, like a living torch. They waddled along the sand, using their disproportionately long arm to push themselves upward and see better. Suddenly they spotted something, or rather someone.
Reno chirped at their friends and they nodded. One of them left quickly, moving surprisingly fast. Returning to their camp for their new plan.
Reno waddled with determination to the source of those eyes.

In the darkness, Reno would see a feminine-shaped humanoid, similar to the half-elf he had encountered a while back. Their cloth armor was similarly shaped, though this one's was green and worn with age. Moreover, this creature's silhouette crackled with hair-thin blue bolts of static which gave her an eerie glow.
Although she readied herself for battle, Jun couldn't help but wonder if she ought to hold back or flee. After all, wasn't she the intruder here? But the way the web of life was disrupted by the presence that approached her told her that what was coming wasn't exactly a native either. It was... a fellow refugee.
And it was short. And...
Cute?!
The little jellyfish thing felt sentient to to her. She recognized a gait of determination, despite its inhuman means of propulsion. This was a small thing used to fighting big things. It was a brave thing. She knew, because she could relate.
Jun placed one hand on the hilt of her sword, which was sheathed, and raised her other hand high in the air to make herself look a little taller. She started taking steps back, slowly and methodically. "Alright little guy, easy. Trust me, you don't want this fight."
A part of her sort of did want this fight though. She was curious what a jellyfish holding a lantern could bring to the table.

The synch saw their opponent and immediately regretted following. They could tell something about them was strong. Instead they played it safe. Wrapping their long arm, they tilted their head cutely and disarmingly. They might have been scared, but they where not going to back down.
Reno chirped some more, as he heard more chirps from far away. Their brethren had arrived quickly, and they saw the lights from their town where off.
More synchs swarmed the area. They where all hiding in plain sight, their changed colors making them blend into their surroundings.
Reno gave them beady eyed stare. They chirped loudly, a little too loudly. They came up with a small plot, waddling away.
Once it was far enough, it waved at Jun to follow. Moving the sail on top of their head they pointed to her camp, trying to divert her attention from their friends.

"Oh."
Jun was a little crestfallen when she realized she was surrounded. How was it that she could sense barnacles and seaweed close by but an army of disguised jellyfish eluded her?
She sighed and realized it probably wasn't her fault. The creatures were obviously magical themselves and could probably hide their presence from her. They probably came from a world where beings with magic were common. She wondered if she was dealing with a prey animal, or a predator.
Before she could theorize any further, the adorable leader chirped a signal to the others, then at her. It seemed to be interested in their camp. Now that she was closer, she suddenly noticed that, at this angle, the jellyfish lights mimicked those of her own camp. They were clustered in much the same way so that they would look similar at a distance.
Maybe it was just a coincidence?
Jun stopped moving and eased her posture. The leader was trying to communicate.
"Uh, you want me to take you to our camp? Or do you just wanna know what we are?"
She swore she felt hatred coming from the creature earlier. Taking it back to the camp was probably out of the question. This was bad. But if she could just get to know it better...

Appearance: He has beige skin, curly black hair and dark brown eyes. He does have a few large scars on his back and legs. He wears a worn brown leather coat and black pants.
He isn't particularly tall, 5'8 and usually has a smile on his face.
Equipment: He has a few items at his disposal as he uses them way more than his weak magic.
His light gray umbrella is durable and his main weapon of choice. He can unscrew it's hook to store things inside. His umbrella is special because it can repair itself, which takes about 3 hours to do.
He has a kitchen knife that he uses in case he needs to get dangerous.
He has a magic bag of spores. Breathing in the sores has a variety of effects. It can cause uncontrollable sneezing/crying, weaken magic, hallucinations and cause drowsiness. The spores are magical, so they wear off over time relatively fast and only one can happen at a time.
Shock bugs are his main gag item that shocks both him and the person he is touching when he shakes their hands. It causes a pretty painful shock, though it has no use other than that.
String darts are 8 darts attached together by strings and a large badge reel. He uses them to do tricks.
Skills and Abilities: He is very adept at using his umbrella and knife, usually he uses his weapon's hook to trip his opponents. The also tends to use momentum to fight as he himself isn't very strong.
His string darts are mostly for tricks but because of their durability and sharp points they can also be used as a weapon. He mostly uses it for mid ranged fighting as they do go relatively far then he throws them.
He likes to do party tricks and loves to entertain people with stage magic(rather than actual magic).
He has 2 magic abilities. He can make a burst of energy that propels him into whatever direction he wants and can make healing light that moderately heals.
He has extreme pain tolerance because of his multiple sustained i juries and recklessness.

Suddenly" Hey!" A human voice called to Jun from behind. Someone standing on top of a hill waved at her. It was hard to see them in the dark.
"Okay?" They said, soundig like an older male. But the way they waved their hand was strange. It moved almost like a snake instead of a normal arm.
Reno chirped, sounding smug to anyone who understood their language. A friend, multiples.
"Come on!" They called, sounding a little off emotionally." Over here!" A few more synchs sneaked around the group. They almost look like moving rocks, but the tiny sail on their head have them away.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated

Jun turned to wave at the noodily armed man. "Oh hey! Do you know these guy-"
Her face sank.
She looked around and saw the "rocks" slowly slithering to cut off her escape. The fake camp fires, the disguised magical creatures, the brave little leader? It all made sense now.
It was a trap. A lure. They were predators. Tiny, clever, adorable predators.
But their disguises suggested they weren't used to dealing with... a certain level of acuity from their targets.
"... Okay." Jun's arm dropped down to her side, and a little brown walnut-sized seed dropped seamlessly into her palm. It cracked open with a little hiss and a pop, giving off more blue light. Plant filaments reach to her hips, grabbing two rocks which looked liked bolas tied to her belt.
"I know your kind are intelligent. And I know you're like us. You're visitors, refugees. And you're just trying to survive. So I'm going to give you the courtesy of a single warning."
The rocks began to glow hot red.
"We aren't prey."

Reno Synch
Committed

Reno flinched and whipped her with it's long hand. The nerve endings on its fingers gave tiny shocks, annoying but not too painful to cause her to flinch. They chirped and called their friends.
Launching themselves with their arm, they hid and got ready. The non sentient and brainless body parts started attaching themselves to Reno.
Synchs jumped out from behind her, trying to restrain her like tentacles to her skin. The fake human joined the group, running awkwardly to them.
