Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

At first, Jun chuckled along with Asadrack. She was willing to play along; certainly she could simulate a myriad of bizarre and harsh training regimes without actually putting him in danger.
Then Asa described his experience with his father, and her demeanor changed. She listened as best she could, but her eyes seemed distant, and her mouth was slightly agape. It... wasn't exactly a look of approval.
She should have figured Asadrack had been through something like that.
"If you really want me to be harsher, I can be harsher. You know it's funny, Tana said the same thing while I was helping her restore some of her magic. She wanted me to be firmer than I was. I was too gentle. And I talk too much sometimes. Too much theory. Maybe you noticed during this session. Haha. It's hard for me to be hard on others even though I can be hard on myself."
Jun waved her scarred hand at him again.
"The thought of children being harmed... One of my closest friends from before the floodwaters was treated horribly as a child. It made him into a monster, a living weapon. His master was evil. We actually had to fight him once. One of very few people who almost killed me."
Jun had flashbacks to a hidden tower filled with secret chambers. It was a laboratory, and it was filled with blood stains. Seven children grew up there...
One of the gourds suddenly burst into flames. It was actually quite a blast, like a balloon filled with dangerous gas. Fortunately there was no collateral damage. The Queen's guards jumped with alarm.
Jun stared impassionately at the immolating remains. "I'm sorry, Asa. I've been very emotional lately. I don't really know what's wrong with me."

"Would you say there's something wrong with me ? The way I see, we're the same, scared children in adults bodies, people expected us to be this perfect warriors, to be the perfect successors of our mentors, I don't know how brutal your training was but I almost died trying to reach a standard I forced into myself, trying to become the leader everyone else wanted me to be, now I know I can't be my father, he loved me but he was a ruthless leader, I'm not, and there's nothing wrong with that, just like there's nothing wrong with you." Asa put his arm around Jun's shoulder with a caring smile on his face "You should focus on what you you to do sis, ignore what others think of it, you deserve to be happy, we all do, what we did before doesn't matter anymore, the people we killed, the friends we hurt, none of this matters, what matters is what we do now."

Jun sighed. She did her best to smile and lean into the hug.
She extended a hand out towards the embers, seemingly suppressing them.
"Uh, well, it wasn't my training. My training was ok. It's what came after that's the problem. All the battles I fought, some good, some not so good, all the death, the people I saved, the people I couldn't save, it's just, it's a lot. I've seen a lot of terrible things. And yes, I've killed. I've killed a lot actually, mostly child-eating trolls and undead hoards, and orcs, and a giant spider. Ugh..." Jun hung her head at the ridiculousness of it all.
"It's just... it's a lot. And the worst part is, I just can't stop. I have to keep going. For Avalux, for the Queen, for you, and before you say anything-" She held up a finger, knowing exactly what Asadrack was about to say, "-for myself. I don't know how to quit. It's just who I am. And I know not everyone can understand that. The only thing I can do from now on is just... try to come back alive."
Jun pulled away from Asadrack. Not that she didn't appreciate the embrace, but she needed to breath and she wanted to face Asa with a little more dignity. "I'm having panic attacks because I'm finally allowing myself to be close to someone, to love someone, and I'm afraid... I'm afraid I'm going to die somewhere and leave them behind. I uh, kinda didn't wanna talk about it with you because, well..." Jun bashfully gestured at Asadrack with somewhat confused hand gesticulations.
"Y-y- you... you get it. We uh, we kinda have the same problem only mine hasn't happened yet and you reversed yours."

Asa looked at Jun, his expression was confused because of her gestures but he understood what she meant "Jun, you'll be fine, you won't die nor havea limb eaten, or be stabbed, not If I had to say anything about that, make sure you're prepared for the worst but don't take it as something inevitable okay."

Jun smirked and pouted slightly. She leaned into Asadrack and whined, although it was obviously in jest.
"I'm tryyyyiiiiiing. Look, women are just worrywarts sometimes, ok?" She chuckled.
She turned her head back towards the queen's tree house.
"Speaking of which, I really hope we didn't wake them."

"Me too, Tana deserve a good rest." Asa began thinking about Tana and remembered something "Jun, before I went missing I was practicing some wood carving, I had a portrait of Tana and I almost done in a wood tablet that Moir gave me, it's unfinished and I want to complete it, unfortunately carving wool with one hand might be hard so, would you help me with it ?" Asa seemed very serious with this request, it was something that was on his mind for a while, finishing his gift to Tana and he thought that Jun's magic would be what helps him do it.

Jun's face turned slightly red.
"I'll do whatever I can but, you should know, I'm a terrible artist. I can barely draw stick figures. Only thing I'm really good at drawing is runes. Those seem to come naturally for some reason. But yah, of course! I'll hold the thing for you, or help you design attachments for your off-hand to help you with art. Maybe my magic can help too. I'll bet if I try really hard I can take control of termites and... no that's probably a bad idea. Maybe I can make a temporary attachment, like with your shield. If you show me your project and how you would have worked on it before, I'm sure I can help."
Thinking about Asa's project lifted Jun's spirits quite readily, all her insecurities and worries be damned, for now at least.

"Give me a second." Ha said, quickly leaving to fetch everything he needed.
"You know, I was used to draw on paper," he dropped 5 wood tablets on the floor, three of them had a whole in the middle, almost like someone had put a spear head right in the middle, all of them had all of them had unfinished carvings of what looks like Tana's face with various degrees of proficiency.
"But everything I used to make those drawing got ruined by sea water." This time he came back with a sharp spear head, it was the one on his old spear, It looked like it fitted the wholes perfectly, "so I had to improvise, those are my least hated results so far, and I'm debating to start over from scratch, but I need something to hold this," he showed another tablet, this one was without any scratches or carvings."perfectly still, while I use this," he pointed to the spear head "to carve the wood."

Jun smirked sympathetically at the tablet with the hole in it. Then she examined the tablet's dimensions and furrowed her brow in concentration.
"Hmm, this might take a bit."
Jun produced two more seeds from her sleeves. Like with the spears, they began sprouting; a fresh green shoot twirled about in place from a little crack in each of them, eagerly waiting instruction. Jun placed them at her feet, sat down, closed her eyes, and focused.
The shoots stretched out and expanded in girth, then curled upwards into a spiral. Smaller shoots sprouted out to fill the empty air in between the arcs. The spiral expanded a bit at the base. Jun strained a bit when they reached their zenith; one was short, only a couple of feet tall, but the other was taller, about 4 feet tall. At the top, little shoots struggled to form a more intricate structure, a tilted plane with a ridge at the bottom.
When she was done, Jun had made two crude podium-like structures where Asadrack could place his tablets so they wouldn't move.
Jun breathed a sigh of relief, as that had cost her a bit of stamina. "One's for when your standing and one's for when you're sitting down. If you need them steadier you can tie some twine around the top with them in the- here I'll just show you." She took one of the tablets and placed it on top of the shorter podium, then took a bit of suspiciously green string from her gambeson pocket and tied it around through some gaps in the top plane.
"A carpenter can do a way better job I'm sure but, that should work for now."

Asa's eyes were glowing with excitement, he placed his hand on Jun's shoulder and said "Thank you," he had a year on his eye, "Having trouble fighting, hunting or even some exercises were not as big deal as this, if I had Lost the ability to create, to capture moments and people, if I had lost that..." He cleared his eyes before the tear actually rolled on his cheeks.
This time he chose to use the smaller one, sitting down, placing the wood tablet I to position, and stared at it for some money, drawing the image with his eyes, visualizing ahead of time every line before he even began, he looked at Jun, petted the ground beside him "sit here with me, I'd like to tell you my process."
He first used the tip of the spear head very lightly to make rough marking where everything would be while describing to Jun, and he would continue to make more lines as the piece started to take form, all while talking Jun through the process, at the end of his initial markings there was a human-like head with no defining characteristics yet.

As Jun listened, she found herself occasionally drawing lines in the dirt with a stick, as if she had any hope of becoming a competent artist herself. But the lines just turned into squiggles, to which she added more lines and squiggles.
She drew a rune. She didn't even know what it was for. It just seemed to make her feel better looking at it. Since it started as a halfhearted attempt to draw a face, it did have a feminine look to it. Jun supposed runescribing could be considered an art form, not unlike calligraphy.
If Asa looked, she'd just shake her head and tell him to ignore it while she once again focused on what he was doing.
Seeing Asa draw made her happy. And knowing that she helped him in some small way made her happier still. She never realized how important little acts of kindness like this could be now that the world was smaller, more intimate, less fantastical, and in some ways, more cruel. She'd keep it in mind. It seemed like an important, and oddly familiar, life lesson.
"Oh I get it. Once you get the proportions and shapes right, then you can fill in the blanks." She smiled. She could already see Tana in the drawing, sorta.

"Yes, at least that's how i do it, I'm sure other people do it differently." Asa looked at the rune on the sand, almost analyzing it, he nodded his head, although most would see just lines, Asa saw something else, it had some femininity to it, he thought that maybe, giving the right directions, Jun could become an artist herself but, he made sure to let her know that.
Going back to his carvings, he now started to make the lines a little deeper, using what was left of his left forearm to gently hit the back of the spear head "You know Jun, art can be taught by oneself, by other people, it cane come naturally or be something you work hard to achieve," he said without losing his focus on the carvings "But the one thing good art has in common is that it flourishes with emotions, good, bad, anything in between."
Asa cleared all the wood tablet from the wood chippings looked at it for a second, it was looking more and more like Tana by this point, it was a little bit different though, it wasn't how she looked but how he saw her.
"Art for me was... Is a very good source of concentration and it kept me sane from all the things I've done, what about you Jun, do you have something that you do ? A hobby or something else ?"

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 292

The sad truth was, Jun had to think a while for an answer.
"Well, for a brief time I liked to cook. I still do, though... I guess I don't really do it for fun."
Jun held up her palm, and with mild concentration, caused a small blue spark to appear in the air just above it. It was solid, shimmering only just, and it bathed her hand in sky blue light.
"Magic is like that for me. It's emotion, it's art. But it can also be learned with structure and mathematics. And some people excel at it that way. Avalux can do things with runes I thought were impossible. But to him..."
Jun added more flourishes to her rune, and then placed her little point of mana over it. The light held fast over the rune, and then it changed color. It turned pure white, and expanded outwards, and then it formed into a shape. It was a statue of Tana, made of pure light. It was still crude and lacking in fine details, but one could sort of tell it was her.
"This is impossible. He can't intuit runes the way I can."
The statue only held for a few seconds before disappearing. Without prepared mana seeds, Jun's magic was limited.
"Maybe I can try learning to draw the way he does runes, with structure and math. It never occurred to me to try it that way."

"Everything is based of mathematics Jun," Asa turned away for a second and whispered "unfortunately." He wasn't proud of how bad he was at math.
"Maybe that's what you need to keep your mind out of those dark places, something to do to relax." Asa though for a second after seeing Jun create a statuiout of the rune, "Maybe if your magic can't hold form, other things will, it doesn't have to be drawings or sculptures, it doesn't have to be magical or even ordinary, it just have to come from the heart and whatever you make, I'm sure it will be filled with emotions."
As picked the wood tablet on his hand, "This was made of love." The picture carved into the wood was the perfect representation of how Asa saw Tana, it was clear it had more space for him to work with and at Tana's forehead, a few out of place lines exited, it looked like the beginning of a flower crown that Asa would later work on, the rest of the free space seemed perfectly for a small face where he wanted to make his daughter but he needed a little more time to capture every detail of her face with his eyes before he could carve it.
"I'll finish this later, my hand is starting to hurt, is there anything you would like to do Jun, we've been talking and training, you helped me with all of those things, I want to do something for you too."

Jun gazed admiringly at Asadrack's work. She appreciated what he said, about creating from the heart. It was a soothing sentiment, not to mention fundamental to how sorceresses function. At the end of the day, her magic came from the heart too. But maybe it was time Jun tried using her heart to create other things. After all, that seemed to be the trend things were going in... Speaking of which, Jun lit up when she realized there was in fact something he could do for her. "Actually, there is! Are you hungry?" Assuming Asadrack said yes, Jun would tell him to wait a moment while she ran back to her home, a wooden and earthen structure located at ground level (instead of the tree houses). She came back with several baskets. "One of my side projects has been figuring out ways of preserving food, both with and without magic. If you don't mind taking a few risks, I could use a taste tester." Jun grinned devilishly. Inside the baskets were several different kinds of beef(?) jerky, dried fruits, vials of sweet-smelling powders, fishy smelling rocks(?), eggs in various shades of color despite coming from the same unknown animal, and a few pouches of what looked suspiciously like insect pupae. "Oh, those are insect pupae." Jun said flatly. The spectrum of flavors was vast. Some of the samplings tasted serviceable, while others were downright sweet and savory. A few tasted like death, not fit for the lowliest dog to eat (though Jun's owl fox companion at least gave it a shot). Most of the fair was edible at least, and there at least a few gems here and there. A fair bit of it might just come down to personal preference. None of them would cause lasting illness.
