Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

"The mists make me so angry sometimes. I'm really glad you made it back."
Jun sat down next to where Asadrack had been and invited him to sit down again.
"Ah, well, I guess I can talk about it some more now. I don't think I ever told you the story in detail." She'd wait for him to sit down while she gathered her thoughts.
"Back in my old world, I was a powerful sorceress. But I was nothing compared to my grandmother. She was one of those chosen one types, the kind you write legends about. She was our people's hero. She was tough, but also kind. And she could do spells which many considered impossible. She died when I was, 11 I think."
Jun held up both her hands, as if cradling power in between them. "One of those spells involved the mixing of two elements, light and darkness, in the form of these massive energy dragons. In our world magic was so much stronger. A dangerous necromancer could destroy an entire kingdom. And these energy dragons, they were strong on their own. But she could intertwine them into a single attack which could defeat just about anything, even demigods. The world shook when she used that spell. I had always wanted to be able to do it too, but, well, it's just one of those things. 'Only the chosen one can do the thing.'" Jun shook her head.
"One day my homeland was attacked by an ancient god. Some sort of nature fae thing that wanted to sever the connection between mankind and nature. It saw sapience as a disease. It tried to kill us all. When I was at full strength, I hit that son of a bitch with everything I had, and... it didn't work. My magic could burn a whole forest down, maybe even destroy half a city. But no, the thing laughed at me and kept killing people. No matter how powerful I became, it was just never enough. There was always, always something bigger and scarier on the horizon."
She held up her scarred hand further. "So, I sought the final answer." Jun smiled, but it was a sad smile. "And I failed. My body couldn't handle all the energy. In fact, at the time I had a boyfriend and he actually grabbed my hand to try to absorb some of it for me, and both our hands kinda, well, they exploded. Now, keep in mind, I had spells that could regenerate entire limbs in a blink of an eye. But for whatever reason, this thing just refused to heal. I had to wait for it to heal the old fashioned way. It took months, and during that time my power was cut in half. But even then I learned to overcome those limitations, and even learned some new tricks. It might have actually prepared me for this world."
Jun chuckled. "At the end of the day the ancient god was defeated by some stupid old artifact hidden in some decrepit old cave. Yah, it was one of those. Bullshit if you ask me but sometimes that's just how it goes."
She flexed her hand. "I used to be ashamed of these scars. I kept them around to remind myself of my own stupidity. But now, I think it reminds me of how strong I am, not in terms of power, but in terms of will. But that said, it also reminds me to remember my own limits, and to always try to come home alive."

"That sounds though, no wonder you're such a tough person, I..." Asa told jun about the animal and how it bit off his hand in one bite, of how the thing died doing so and of how stupid he was to go out alone in a place he new it could be dangerous, tears formed in his eyes. "Compered to you this is nothing but it hurts the physical wound healed but... I'm trying to be strong for Tana, For Mara, but it's hard, I can still feel my fingers Jun, I can't even hold my own daughter without someone around me because I'm afraid to drop her." Asa held back the tears that were about to fall on his cheeks.
He tried looking at his missing part. It couldn't stop himself to avoid it with his eyes, "well," he forced a smile, "how about we talk about less traumatic subjects, tell me, how has Life been treating you ?"

"You're still young, Asadrack. It's going to get easier, I promise. Strength comes with age." She pulled out a handkerchief to wipe away some of the tears of her over-sized metaphorical younger brother.
She winced. "But, yah, you're probably gonna wanna get a wooden prosthetic. Something that can pinch things. Maybe me and Avalux can work something out."
Jun smiled. "If it's any consolation, the village is doing well. Tana is becoming stronger, and there are more survivors. I wouldn't go as far as to say the people are thriving, but they aren't starving and desperate anymore. Your mate has powers of her own, and I've been training her a bit."
Jun's face turned somewhat red with an embarrassed smirk. "And... there is a man in my life. Avalux, a rune scribe. He helped Tana give birth using a healing rune formula that we designed together."

Jun chuckled reflexively at Asadrack's comment. "I'm sure he would never... he wouldn't-"
The change in the air happened suddenly, an impending sense of doom.
No, but you would. You'll get lost in a maze filled with monsters Just like Asadrack, only you won't leave until you've tried to kill the monsters so they don't harm anyone else in the village. And you'll die. They'll find your maggot-filled corpse surrounded by the bones of all the fiends you dragged with you to hell. A hero, a fool. And as soon as you're gone, the monsters will come and kill everyone...
Asadrack would notice that Jun seemed... almost not there. Her eyes were wide, and there was sweat at her temples. She was strangely silent, but her heartbeat would be just audible.
They're all going to die. You're going to die. Because you are a fool.
The hawkwing fox woke from its nap and trotted over to Jun's feet. It sat, watching her closely, as if it knew something was wrong.

Jun's eyes fixed themselves on the animal, and after a tense few seconds she began to inhale and exhale sharply with relief. Her muscles relaxed and she bent over slightly. Her eyes were free now and she looked over at Asadrack.
"... Sorry."
She unfolded herself and her posture straightened, her head swaying and eyes drooped with shame. "I'm ok." She patted Asadrack's knee. "I promise. It's just..." She was still catching her breath, as if she had just run a kilometer.
"It's... a bit hard to explain. It's been affecting me lately. I'm not sure what it is but the Azarana healer says she's seen it before. It's an affliction that affects people who've... been through certain things. I started having it after me as Avalux started, well, since our relationship evolved, I guess. It's not his fault. He hasn't done anything other than be his wonderful self. And it's not dangerous. In fact it might even go away after a while. What helps is having something close by to ground me, but not forcing me out of it. It's a bit like gently waking me up from a nightmare, but I'm still awake."
She bent down and pet the hawkwing fox. She smiled sadly. "I'm alright. I'm alright." She said in a high pitched voice to the creature. "Him being here alone helped. As did you. But if you wanna help more, just reassure me that everything's alright. Counting might help too."
Jun thinned her lips. "I uh, I haven't told Avalux about it yet. I don't want him to think it's his fault. Maybe it's just a coincidence."

Asa went back to where he was sitting before, he ajuted his own hair "I think I know what you're talking about Jun," he put his head against the wall looking up staring at the ceiling "Remember how I told you about me being a mercenary before this island ? For the longest time, every time I closed my eyes I'd see the faces of the people I murdered, most were just doing their jobs, protecting their countries, their families, sleeping was a rare and sometimes I'd think I was still fighting, it all had stopped after meeting Tana but now, after this," he lifted his stump "it's been coming back, not just the people but the animal attacking me too" Asa chuckled, "I survived all of it and I'm not half as strong as you are Jun, you're not alone in this, I'm here for you and I'm sure that if you tell Avalux he'll gladly help you through this."

"You know, it may not be for the right reasons but, what you said made me feel better. You've walked down the path of darkness and now you're on the path of light... Well, metaphorically speaking. One of my biggest fears actually, besides leaving behind people I love, was turning evil."
Jun flicked her head mischievously. "I would have made a terrifying villain, you know."
Jun suddenly remembered an old friend, on whose shoulders might have fallen the responsibility of taking her down if that ever became the case.
"But, conversely, I speak from experience when I say former villains often make the best heroes. They understand things the truly pure-hearted will never understand."

"I can't see you as a vilan honestly." Asa said, "I'm here for whatever you need okay." Asa seemed like he was still worried about her, he knew she'd be strong enough to push through this but she was like family to him so it made sense for him to be like that. "Jun, you're stronger than I ever was and I'm not talking physically, so I know you're getting through this okay, I..."
It seemed like he wanted to tell her something and by tho look on his face it was something he wasn't proud of "I... This isn't the time," he said to himself, "for now let's just say I went deep into that metaphysical darkness that you speak of and came out of it, like I said, you're stronger than I was back then so you'll definitely be okay."

"Thanks. And so will you." Jun gently punched Asadrack's arm. "And so will you!" She said in a squeaky voice to the hawkwing fox, who was now rolling around looking for belly rubs.
Jun looked over at the sleeping Tana and Mara. "And so will they." It was pretty obvious Jun was trying to convince herself as well.
"We all need to heal from our pasts I guess. The future is more important."
Jun smirked. "Actually, I have gotten stronger since you left but, I don't need to show off. And no need to compare our inner strengths. It's not a competition anyone can really win, and even if you could the prize isn't really worth it." Jun winked.
She was surprised how much better she was feeling all of a sudden.

"Well, it's good to know you're stronger." Asa stopped to think for a bit while giving the animal the belly rubs it wanted, "The future huh ? I don't know if I'm prepared to be a king Jun, a husband and a father that I can do but king ? I can't even use a spear anymore."
He looked at Jun with the expression of someone who has a favor to ask "I'm not the best with swords, I'd like for you to teach me what you know, It'll make me feel better if I can at least protect my family and the people and you're the best fighter I know. Please ?"

Roleplay posts: 292

Jun thought for a moment, then she pulled out a couple of seeds from her pack.
"Sure. I think I can do that. But..."
She held the seeds in her palm. Mana in the form of little blue bolts flowed down her shoulder and arm into the seeds, which split apart and released tendrils of little green shoots. The shoots expanded outwards rapidly and curled into writhing lumps.
"I think what I really need to teach you..."
The lumps molded into each other like clay, and kept growing until they had formed two shapes. One was a simple, one-handed spear. The other looked a bit like a long, deep cup, with two vines attached to act as straps. From one side of the makeshift gauntlet an small disk formed.
"... Is how to never give up."
The disk expanded outwards until it formed a buckler, a small shield design for quick blocks and counter-blows.
"A real craftsman could do a much better job. But see if that fits you for now." She handed him the buckler prosthetic gauntlet.
"Oh, I already have one of these." She reached back into her pack and pulled out a wooden atlatl, a device to assist with long range spear throwing that could also be used one-handed, though actually getting the spear into it would be a bit more difficult now.
"Hmm, maybe..." Since she hadn't handed him the spear yet, she decided to test to see if she could use her teeth to insert the spear into the atlatl with one hand.
"Huh, ah tha 'ight wor'!"

Asa was looking at Jun as she tried holding the Atlatl with her teeth, he lifted one eyebrow and sad, "wouldn't holding it between the legs be easier ?"
Asa picked the gauntlet and looked at it, "Thank you, I'm not giving up, I used long spears because I liked the range I just thought I'd would be nice to branch out a little but in interested on that device your trying to slot a spear in, I don't think I've seen it before."

"Uh, ay'ee ur righ'." Jun pulled out the spear and again tried placing it in, this time by holding the atlatl between her knees. "I was just thinking it might be helpful to use your mouth if you had to do this while moving. But, yah, works too."
Without actually throwing it, she demonstrated the posture and form of movement to launch the spear. (Queen Tana might not approve of projectiles being launched in her home.)
"Spear and shield I'm told is one of the oldest fighting styles in history. Since we're in a world where history's been reset, maybe it's time it made a comeback."
She handed them to Asadrack, then pulled out her long sword. "To be honest, I'm used to using this as a two-handed weapon. But you're still bigger and stronger than me so maybe you can use it one-handed. Balance might be a little weird. But yes, as long as you have a stump and the right accessories, you can still make your off-hand useful. Kinda poetic that losing a hand might turn you into a dual-wielding expert."
She offered to let him borrow her sword. The strange chrome blue weapon was still in unnaturally good condition despite it's magical properties no longer being active.
