Asa watched the posture used to throw spears and tried memorizing it, than, after picking Jun's sword he tested to see if it could be used one handed by him "I think it could work." He said.
Looking at Jun he seemed like he was a little less worried about her and more motivated to learn new skills "Dual wild expert sounds nice, honestly now I'm thinking about not stopping at swords, I think Tana is planning to have something made for me that could help with more than just fighting." He looked at the sword one more time before giving it back so he could try the Atlatl, he didn't launch the spear either, he would rather deal with a large animal than making Tana mad.

Roleplay posts: 292
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

Jun gave a sly look back towards where Tana and Mara were sleeping. She smirked at Asadrack. "Well, since you're feeling determined... maybe we should have a little training session. We should probably step outside though to not wake those two."
Jun loved coming up with creative ways to train others, especially when she could use her magic to do so. And a part of her did want to show off her new powers.
"To be honest, I'm not much of a buckler expert. But I think the trick is to kinda use it to protect your main hand and also create openings to counter attack." She clapped her hands together, and then pushed them apart while extending them to try to demonstrate. "Like if you stab, and your opponent slashes to block, you can knock their sword out of the way with your shield and then BAM! You can also use it as a blunt weapon to bonk people on the side of the head. It's tiny compared to a big shield but it's also much faster. Oh, maybe you can start with your spear and then if you lose it by throwing it your sword can become your side arm..."
(Jun was beginning to nerd out a little.)
The hawkwing fox, for his part, seemed to want little to do with this. Instead he returned to Tana's and Mara's side to resume napping with them.

Asadrack followed Jun outside and once she finished her instructions he would assume an fighting stance, he was a little awkward since he used a two handed spear before loosing his hand and never really used anything else.
At first his stance was a little awkward to him but wouldn't take too long to figure it out, "I really like the Idea if having two weapons, this buklet seems very good too but I have a feeling that it might be good to parrying attacks." He said to Jun.

"Well, obviously it can be used to parry attacks." More bolts of mana ran down Jun's arms, and more seeds fell into her palm from her sleeves. "What I'm trying to say is, it can do a lot more than that. I think it's the same lesson I had to learn with magic."
Vines sprouted from her seeds, and from little buds on the ends of her vines sprout melon-sized gourds. There were three of them from each hand for a total of six. They bounced around the ground; Jun seemed to be able to control them with the slightest flick of her wrist.
"It's a far cry from dragon slaying isn't it?" Jun chuckled. "But, you work with what you have. Just like I'm learning to make the most out of limited mana, you need to learn to make the most out of everything you've got, even if it's just a spear and shield. A shield and weapon combined can be used to block, they can strike, they can trap enemy attacks, you can throw one and still have the other, heck I'll bet there's stuff you can do with grappling. Hook someone behind their skull and throw them down. Break limbs. Be creative!"
Two of the bouncing gourds started gyrating aggressively.
"They'll come two at a time, but one's gonna come right after the other. Up to you how you wanna deal with them. Block, stab... duck, dodge?"
The gourds launched forward to attack!
"GO!"

Although prepared, Asa was paying attention to what Jun was saying and almost got caught by surprise but the first gourd.
He tried to first test the shield swiping right to left to change the direction of the object flying towards him using the momentum created by his left arm to stab the second gourd but couldn't get a good hit and it smacked him In the face, he growled, his expression showed that he was expecting to hit it perfectly and didn't like the he didn't.
"Again."

Jun really wasn't an expert in shields, but she was a quick study and could quickly diagnose problems.
"If you hold the shield farther away, you can guard better, but your vision gets worse. Hold it tighter to yourself and you can see better, but your defense gets worse. So focus harder if you hold it farther away from you, and be quick if you hold it close."
The gourds started gyrating again. They shifted position a bit as if they were plotting an attack vector.
"Ok, get ready!"
ZOOM! ZOOM! One came towards Asadrack's face, and a split second later a second went for his chest.

Asadrack heard Jun's advice and decided to hold the shield closer to him, he could be fast better than he could focus and fast he was, considering he wasn't at his full capacity he could still get some impressive speed and agility, weaving under the first gourd going left to right, using his body movement to quickly blocking the second one with the shield.
He didn't look too satisfied with his performance though and asked if Jun could make them come towards him a little faster.

"Good! That was good! Remember your feet. Speed and power come from your feet as well as your arms. Your old two-handed spear got more of its power and speed from its reach, so with these your footwork will have to get stronger."
Two of the gourds started gyrating angry. Jun held their vines like leashed attack dogs.
"You got it. You can do this. GO!!"

The gourds sped towards Asadrack faster than last time, but they still came one a time, though the difference was a mere split second.

Asa took a deep breath, he changed stands, it seemed like he wasn't planning on using the shield at all this time as his right leg and arm were in front.
With two quick stabs he had pierced both gourds, the first slid until it rested on Asa's hand, the spear penetrated it perfectly at the center, the second one was slightly lower but was also on the spear, Asa looked to see how precise the two attacks were "Not bad but I think I can get both perfectly at the center, this smaller spear might have a shorter range but I can be quicker with it," he looked at Jun "I'm sorry if it's asking too much but is there a way to make them more unpredictable ?"

Yah, get'em!
She didn't want to wear it on her sleeve, but Jun was very proud Asadrack still had his fighting spirit.
"Oh, absolutely. Remember, you can block, strike, or dodge. Up to you."
Jun thrust her arms up and down, causing a wave to go through all six vines like whips. Now all six started gyrating aggressively.
"Three of them are gonna come at you in a random order, and I won't say which ones. Do your best!"
Asadrack quickly got the hang of the buckler and spear as separate weapons, but she wanted to see if he could have them work together more fluidly.
"Go!"
*Z-ZOOM! ZOOM!*
Two on the left flew towards him, chest level, at the same time, followed by a third on the far right a half second later.

Asa only nodded in response to Jun, he was focused and waited for the vines.
He quickly ducked under the first two, the vines got very close to hitting him but he maneged to dodge them, he caught a glimpse of the third one moving towards him and turned to block it.
"Jun, I'm thinking that a sword would be better to go on the attack against vines, can you lend me your's for now ?"

Jun pulled back on the vines. The gourds sprang back like yoyos.
Feeling a little cheeky, she unsheathed her sword and carefully slipped it into one of the stab wounds Asadrack had made in one of the gourds. Then she floated the gourd over to deliver the sword to him.
"Ok, but this time let's try something more specific. I want you to get good with all three weapons. So..."
Two of the gourds started vibrating with excitement.
"Pretend this one-" She whipped the vines, causing one of the gourds to bounce in place, "-is wearing chain mail. It won't stop until you've stabbed it. The second gourd is heavily armored and won't stop until you've cut the vine behind it. In either case try using your shield to help you."
The gourds gyrated so hard this time their vibrations shook the air. "These are gonna try much harder to hit you. Get ready."
*Z-zoom!!*
The gourds went on the offensive. But this time they did so more intelligently. The one weak to stabbing didn't charge in but kept trying to flank Asadrack, while the "armored" gourd darted in and out, how an actual fencer might attack.

First, Asadrack propped the gourd with the sword in the ground, he made sure to have the spear on the Atlatl and got ready.
As the "armoured gourd came closer, Asa punched hard with the shield so it would give him a enough time to dash backwards to so he could try to avoid the flanking the other one was trying, he ran just enough si that the "chainmail" gourd would be roughly in line of sight, he remembered the stance Jun showed to him and launched the spear with precision, it was definitely a good first throw and it hit the target but Asa didn't seemed too enthusiastic about it.
The armoured one was still standing, Asa waited for it to pass the sword that ran full speed in it's direction, he used the shield to defend it's attack and used his momentum to slide to the sword, he quickly pick it up and slashed the vine.
Asa was breathing a little heavier by now, he would've continued but he wasn't in shape yet so he called for a short rest.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated

"Yah! Get'em!" This time Jun released her excitement. Having been severed from its source, the "armored" gourd dropped and became inert. Jun was wondering when he'd try throwing the spear. His strategy didn't disappoint, though in a real fight he would need to draw the sword rather than have it ready on the ground. Still, progress was progress.
"Yah, sure. I could use a break too."
The gourds suddenly dropped to the ground with multiple hollow thumps. One of them rolled around a bit, as if complaining.
Jun shook nodded her head towards the front porch where they could sit down. The Queen's guards were no doubt amused by their training session and barely hid their smirks at them.
Jun was breathing a bit heavily. Magically controlling six targets was still difficult even for her.
"You know... I used to be what they called a Sun Marshall. It was an elite guard corps for the Isran empire. I used to watch all the other soldiers train using their weapons, so I memorized a lot of their techniques. I never mastered them all, but I do remember some of their instructor's lessons."
She patted Asadrack's shoulders. "You're good. I know your good because I can have those memories for reference. So don't accuse me of lying." She smiled, still breathing a bit heavily.
"Oh forests there was one instructor, he was mean. He always made the cadets run to the point of exhaustion and then he'd force them to spar. He'd bonk people with cushioned staffs while they were still throwing up. I know why he did it. He warned the cadets that the enemy will never wait for you to be well-rested, and your survival would often depend on how well you do at your worst, not your best."
Somewhere buried underneath the sweat on her cheeks was a tear. But she still held a friendly visage.
"I'll never be that much of a jerk. Don't worry. But it's not a bad lesson to take with you."

"That's was a common practice during my old training, I have a few scars that my adoptive father gave me during training Jun, the only reason that I'm stopping is because I'm still weak, when I'm back in shape, I want you to be ruthless, maybe having gourds that actually hurt would be a good way of stop me from making mistakes, I love the sound of cheering though." Asa laughed and than showed Jun some of the scars he talked about.
Asa told Jun why he would stabb his own son using his father's words "If you can't handle me carefully cutting you, you'll never survive being actually stabbed because you might have to fight through the pain to get to safety." He lifted his stump "It's probably why I'm still here, I can get hurt a lot before pain actually gets to me, unfortunately that doesn't work with blood Lost."
