Kua Redford

Roleplay posts: 104
Age: 90 (appears early 20s)
Appearance: A thin half-elf, whose olive skin has a greenish tint. Slightly pointed ears. Noticeably wide grin. Dark brown eyes and straight black hair.
Her knuckles are calloused with little scars.
Equipment: A pitch black long coat-style gambeson and a kettle helmet. A longsword inscribed with runes. A pouch of medicinal herbs. A buckler with a long chain attached to it.
A clay flute. A pair of fuzzy pink earmuffs.
A thick black book filled with strange notes...
Skills and Abilities: Kua possesses remarkable gymnastic and martial arts abilities. Her kinesthetic intelligence is very high. She is also a skilled sword fighter and unconventional buckler wielder. Kua also possesses the potential for fire and holy magic. The mists keep it at bay, but the force of her emotions can occasionally overcome it.
She is quite skilled with a flute.
She struggles with complex abstract concepts and mathematics, and demonstrates no social fear. She has a heart condition that requires periodic herbal treatment.
Biography: Kua Redford was born with a disability similar to William's Syndrome. Her parents were overprotective and fearful Kua would never be able to live a normal life. However, Kua also possessed a fierce, independent drive. What started as basic self-defense lessons became an obsession with becoming a warrior so that she could survive on her own.
Kua was enabled by the King of her city-state of Whitehall, a man who saw great potential in her. He had her further trained so she could fulfill her wish of becoming a great paladin someday. Although there were many doubters and Kua's progress was slow, the king went to his deathbed still believing in her dream.
(It didn't hurt that the king was secretly her grandfather. But that is a very long story.)
Because Kua is a half-elf, she ages slowly. Bigots from her world believe her "condition" to be a result of her being a half-breed.

It’s good to be merciful. Don’t let the world take that away from you. But remember, to show mercy, you must be in control, and to be in control, you must be stronger than your enemy.
Or faster, Ash's old friend and high general added.
As if their spirits were watching, Kua nodded and kicked a wave of sand towards the leg creature, in sync with Travels Far's shower of embers. Before the grains of sand even landed, Kua's foot snapped back and her whole body shifted to an inside left guard, her sword hilt near her chest and her blade pointed straight out, a stance for running charging opponents straight through the heart.
Fortunately for the oncoming blob, Travels Far had scared it into backing off before it could be skewered.
She could see the creatures shaking with... fear? She narrowed her eyes and grunted softly, as if to say we'll try not to kill you but use your head next time (if you have one).
As the Synchs fused together to deal with Travels Far, Kua advanced, her feet shifting over the sand like a spider walking on water. She kept her sword close to her side, facing the trio at an angle. The sword tip bobbed up and down mechanically, aiming to puncture any limbs that got too close. Kua was defensive, but it was an aggressive sort of defense. She floated into flanking position like a fencer, ready to strike at an eye blink's notice. She'd protect herself, Jace, and Travels Far. Or die trying. Wasn't the first time.
Not that Travels Far needed protecting. Holy Kyra. He was so cool!

Appearance: The look like a light Portuguese Man O War with a brain. It's brain cavity is clear allowing you to see inside it's body. The tentacles are long and lets them move around quickly and attack themselves to others of their species.
Equipment: They sometimes carry living weapons made out of other Synchs
Skills and Abilities: Using other members of their species they are able to shape their bodies to look like other species. Their mimicry is imperfect and normal intelligent species are able to tell the difference. This process involves synchphons analyzing their target and attaching themselves to each other to shape themselves. This process takes them about half an hour.
Magic helps this process and allows them to change colors to match the species or environment.
They can mimic abilities of other species when they shape shift. The abilities they copy are not as strong as the thing they copy, depending on the power level. They first transform into the user and see the ability in action for them to be able to replicate it.
Given that they are are colonial organisms their bodies can be cut into prices multiple times and are able to regenerate in a couple of days. If their brain is damaged however they die, and the body returns to their colony. Some parts are able to photosynthesize.
Usually they live underwater but are fast climbers and tunnelers because of their hardiness.

The synchs fled from her attack and shifted their bodies, trying to finish their transformation process. Reno was starting to think that this wasn't a good idea as the other came. They needed a weapon first, so they began to shift something hard inside them.
To give Kua a distraction for they began to crawl on the ground and 'swallowed' sand. In reality they just stored it into an empty spot inside them. They gobbled up to the point that they looked slightly bloated.
They squeezed their bodies and with a large amount of pressure spat a cloud sand from their open neck area right to her face. They felt a bone-like object from within their arm. "Hands on weapons." The Synchs said, mimicking Travels Far's voice, sounding almost melodic in the way they said it.

Kua made a halting "EH" sound as sand flew into her face. The flat of her blade darted in front of her eyes as she ducked her head down. She instinctively floated back, but tried not to lose her position too much. In her mind, she pictured a triangle formation with herself, Travels Far, and Jace. It was critical to maintain some semblance of this formation to avoid giving the gelatinous foe an edge. Drawing enemies out of position and focusing them down was how one defeated multiple opponents. Here they were on the opposite side of that problem.
She wanted to get back into position as quickly as possible, so she struggled against the sand, trying to catch glances of everyone's shadows on the ground, trying to feel everyone's movements through her ears.
She sputtered and spat. Blech! Sand is yucky.

From withing their stomach, something began to poke out. An opening in their skin allowed a long thin bone to emerge. It almost looked like Kua's sword, even a few runes in the blade, but it was very much off.
The sword itself was very simple, just a long stick with the handle being thinned out. Both ends of the blade hand tentacles emerging from them, with the handle having sharp tentacles that entered into their hands.
They jumped back and froze. Their head twitched and bone plating began to grow. Slowly but surely they became a replica of Travels Far. They squirmed, trying to get used to the body.
Then they shifted again, this time copying the new shape of Travels Far. They finally transformed completely, and now used Travel's Far's transformation ability. They looked almost as mutated as the faceless, but obviously could not copy them perfectly.
Reno made a battle cry and took a stance, more confident with their new form.

With frightening precision and speed Travels Far extended a hand towards the thing attempting to mimic it. Idiotic, an attempt to intimidate or perhaps anger? It didn't matter. Travels Far focused on the termination of it's vitals rather than it's voice. The hand of the faceless was gangly and inhuman, that glistening scarlet meat stretched out between chunks of ivory chitin. Far far too long to be human.

Just before travels far could attack they blocked with their "sword". They saw their speed and looked frightened. The three stepped around in a small dance before trying to replicate that speed.
They could not go nearly as fast as Travels Far, but they did go pretty fast. Mimicking their movements, Reno tried to swing at them.

With the transformation sequence giving Kua a few seconds of respite, she took a second to analyze her opponent. She saw the copy of her sword. She had an idea.
Using Travels Far's attack as cover, she rushed it. She held her longsword up and outward like a fencer's blade rather than close to her side, abandoning some of her defense while the mimic was distracted. Her sword wasn't properly balanced for use as an saber, but she'd only need a half second to reach her target. She'd aim for the "wrist" holding up the copy sword, slashing at it before reverting back to her defensive stance.
"We have to confuse it!" She cried as she looked for openings to thrust into and opposing moves to counter.
Kua and Travels Far had different styles. Travels Far was unrelenting and powerful, like a charging bear, with the reach of a massive polearm. Kua was more like a cross between a wasp and a scorpion; she could dart around, look for openings, and swap stances quickly. She hoped the mimic wouldn't be able to copy them both at once. She also hoped she and Travels Far would make a good team, supporting each other and covering each other's weaknesses.

Reno cursed at themselves for not copying Kua, seeing her hide behind the Faceless. She was fast and precise. Something they where not. They already transformed into Travels Far, if they tried copying her it could cost them the fight.
The sword however was different. If her sword had some inherent magic they will be able to copy it. Reno felt their will enter the blade, readying them to copy.
However before he could strike again, Kua cut their arm off cleanly. Their wrists where boneless, so the blade cut through them without resistance.
Their blade and hand squirmed, then rejoined with them. It tried to fuse back into the Synchs, with the others waving the other arm, leaving them open for another quick attack.

They could not go nearly as fast as Travels Far, but they did go pretty fast. Mimicking their movements, Reno tried to swing at them. The blade sunk into the ruby coloured flesh of Travels Far with a meaty thunk, embedding itself deep within. The Faceless did not shriek, howl or cry out. It turned it's neck towards the aggressor as the cut flesh knitted itself back in place, growing around the blade, locking it into it's body. Travels Far's blade swung back awkwardly at Reno as it bent around the body in a fashion deeply uncomfortable to look at.

Reno panicked from the bag on its head, and the body on them. The other two synchs bounced around under the skin of their body. Having stabbed Travels far the others began to make squeaking noises to tell them that didn't work.
They couldn't see anything and because of this, since they where unable to see the regeneration, did not copy this ability. They tried to pry it out of their target and used their strangely shaped body to squirm.
They shook around violently before getting an idea. They jerked their entire body in one direction, throwing both them ,Travels Far and Trace to the ground. It heard the nearby river move and began trying to bring the battle to the water.

Kua figured the mimic's blade wouldn't realistically harm Travels Far. But it was still a problem. The fight was escalating, with both Travels Far and the new creature bringing out more and more out of of their alien tool bags. This was not good for her, and it was even worse for poor Jace-
Holy Kyra what was Jace doing?!
Kua gasped. The slippery necromancer had broken formation. Blinding the creature with a bag was very clever, but Kua rushed forward anyways, fearing the worst. Her fear came to pass when the young man was thrown along with Travels Far. If the mimic was strong enough to throw the Faceless, who was much bigger and strong than Jace...
"Shit!" (It took a lot to make Kua swear.) She gritted her teeth. Broken bones and bruises and blood, the worst case scenario, flashed in her mind.
In her rage, she suddenly had a moment of clarity, a zen-like impulse towards destruction. Now in the blinded creature's face, her torso twisted and swung down, simultaneously dodging any attack to the upper body. Half elf muscles coiled like springs. She spun, her hand touching down to the ground. Her foot swung up in a whirlwind blur.
"COPY THIS!"
If the attack connected, the heel of her boot would strike the top of the creature with the bag head with the force of a heavy boulder. This type of kick was one of the most powerful unarmed strikes a human-shaped anything could deliver in accordance with the laws of physics.
But there was more. Without even realizing it, her heightened emotions had brought out something else in her. The wet thump of the kick was accompanied by the shriek of a bottle rocket. Hot air screeched from behind the kick, and golden embers exploded from the impact site.

The synch in their torso, beneath Reno, saw this attack and jolted the body again, this time just barely managing to pull them back from the foot. The attack still connected, hitting Reno hard but not as hard as it could have. He was disoriented and was unable to concentrate, knocking them out. The two synchs below him saw this and decided to take the lead.
They flailed again, with Travels Far and Jace still on them. Their noodle like legs reached out and attempted to wrap around her. Flopping like fish they tried disorienting their opponents. Slowly they managed to get closer to the water.
They two spoke again." On weapons hands, hands, hands on weapons." They cried, using Travels Var's voice.

As Jace is flung to the ground he yelps, out of surprise more rather than pain. He is one that has grown quite familiar to pain. Jace quickly shakes off the maneuver and slide out away from the creature. What a ghastly thing to be facing. He took a deep breath in, don't be a cowars now Jace especially in the presence of such beauty. His eyes shift quickly to Kua. Wow what a strong fighter, he could see the worry in her eyes. Travels Far's body seemed to go limp as it was thrown, landing on top of the gelatinous attackers, fully unfurled into a barely humanoid, stretched, meaty silhouette. Perhaps Tthe Faceless was dead, perhaps it was unconscious, one thing was for certain, this disturbing, unnatural crime against nature was very big, very still, and very heavy. Sunlight glistened like golden honey adorning it's marbled red flesh as it pinned the would be attackers to the riverbed.
