Roleplay posts: 104
Age: 90 (appears early 20s)
Appearance: A thin half-elf, whose olive skin has a greenish tint. Slightly pointed ears. Noticeably wide grin. Dark brown eyes and straight black hair.
Her knuckles are calloused with little scars.
Equipment: A pitch black long coat-style gambeson and a kettle helmet. A longsword inscribed with runes. A pouch of medicinal herbs. A buckler with a long chain attached to it.
A clay flute. A pair of fuzzy pink earmuffs.
A thick black book filled with strange notes...
Skills and Abilities: Kua possesses remarkable gymnastic and martial arts abilities. Her kinesthetic intelligence is very high. She is also a skilled sword fighter and unconventional buckler wielder. Kua also possesses the potential for fire and holy magic. The mists keep it at bay, but the force of her emotions can occasionally overcome it.
She is quite skilled with a flute.
She struggles with complex abstract concepts and mathematics, and demonstrates no social fear. She has a heart condition that requires periodic herbal treatment.
Biography: Kua Redford was born with a disability similar to William's Syndrome. Her parents were overprotective and fearful Kua would never be able to live a normal life. However, Kua also possessed a fierce, independent drive. What started as basic self-defense lessons became an obsession with becoming a warrior so that she could survive on her own.
Kua was enabled by the King of her city-state of Whitehall, a man who saw great potential in her. He had her further trained so she could fulfill her wish of becoming a great paladin someday. Although there were many doubters and Kua's progress was slow, the king went to his deathbed still believing in her dream.
(It didn't hurt that the king was secretly her grandfather. But that is a very long story.)
Because Kua is a half-elf, she ages slowly. Bigots from her world believe her "condition" to be a result of her being a half-breed.

"Oh, you don't have a name. How about... Keeper of Apples? Or Fruit Keeper? Or maybe Farm Girl... Wait, I don't know if you were a girl before."
Kua turned back to Cannot Heal. "I came here by accident. Well, kinda. You see, I was a warrior trying to protect my people from a bad thing. And in my home there is a special gate that can send things to other worlds. I..." She paused, somewhat embarrassed. "I grabbed the bad thing and tried to send us both to a dangerous world, a lava world, where we would both die. The bad things was very dangerous, and it was going to kill everyone I know. But when I put the address, I dunno, the gate changed its mind I guess. We came here instead, the bad thing lost its strength, and I was able to defeat it. I lost some of my strength too, but I'm ok without it."
In her own world, Kua's acrobatic ability was augmented by intense fire magic. Here the magic was being suppressed, and she hadn't had any time to try to push through the mist's barrier. But unlike some others, she didn't define herself by her powers and abilities, so the loss had not affected her much.
She occasionally turned to Apples as she told her story, telling it to them as well.

Apples mulled over the name while listening to the tale, Apples was a nice person-y name. But the girls tale, one if heroism, of dedication, of a willingness to die for the sake of others our of choice. I was a beautiful tale.
Cannot Heal nodded along to bits of the story. It understood death, for great swathes of time death was all it knew, even now in a quiet island it could feel the death creeping into it's new mind like a cancer. What it couldn't understand was sacrificing oneself.
"Why lava?" Replied Cannot Heal after a moment, not understanding why Kua could not simply reduce the enemy's head into a paste.

"Oh, the bad thing could be killed with enough heat, but I wasn't strong enough to do it myself. To be honest, it was kind of desperate." She winced. It was rare for people to get a chance to rethink their final sacrificial acts.
"It's kinda hard to explain. The bad thing, it kinda turns people into what you call Reborn. I know you think Reborn are weak. But this is much faster. It's a disease-like magic we call Corruption. It takes over flesh, and it creates a dangerous corrosive magic around it, which it can use to protect itself. Fire burns it away, but if it's not enough fire, it won't get past the corruption and get to the flesh. The Corrupting One, the one I defeated, he was the source of the corruption. Defeating him ends the spell. At least, I hope it did. But anyways, that is why I chose a lava planet. I used my power to subdue him long enough to send us both to the planet. I had to hold onto him or he would have escaped. Even if I chose a different planet, he would have corrupted everything there, and maybe made his way back."
She looked around. "But for some reason, the gate sent us here, and here he lost his powers and so did I. We appeared above the water, and he was so weak without his magic that his neck snapped when I forced him to fall beneath me. That's also how I hurt my shoulder."

"Burning corruption, I think that big oaf knows a thing or two about that." Remarked Apples, prompting Cannot Heal to shoot it a dirty look.
"Understanding. Sometimes body alone cannot break the enemy, sometimes body alone isn't capable of doing needed thing." The alloy scaled behemoth pointed towards the direction of the coast. "I could not cross the wet, my body alone isn't capable too heavy."

Kua smiled at Apples and looked to Cannot Heal again. "I guess the Faceless were made to fight all sorts of things. You've probably seen many strange enemies. But, maybe this land will give respite."
Kua decided to pull out her flute again. "I wanted to teach Apples how to play this, but Faceless mouth not well adapted to Trueborn instrument. Maybe will try making new flutes specific for Faceless."
Kua frowned slightly. It had been less than a day but it was already getting harder and harder to not speak with a Faceless accent. She shook her head and started playing a few notes. She played them softly, in case Cannot Heal was easily startled by loud noises. Her own condition made it so she once used to fear sudden, loud noises. Being a soldier helped mitigate this fear through training, but Kua was aware that seasoned warriors who had seen terrible things also sometimes feared sudden loud noises...

"That is music." Remarked Cannot Heal as Apples went off to gather more fruit from the orchard. "Remembering music, louder. Harsher. Hurts. Songs of battle, not this. What is this music?"

Kua paused and tried to understand where Cannot Heal was coming from. She personally had a sad sort of nostalgia over battle music. After all, pretty much any time Whitehall went to war, it was in self defense against undead, demons, or monsters. It was a rare privilege to be a warrior and always know you're on the right side. But anyways...
"Music is... kind of like a wordless language. It has many uses, can resonate with many different emotions, good and bad, not just for fighting."
Kua decided to play something sad next, a funeral hymn for fallen warriors.

Crown of Fingers
Established
Roleplay posts: 36
Age: 80+
Appearance: Around 9ft tall with a body visually composed of a red marbled fleshy substance and hard bony plates, three legs terminating in roughly spherical nubs, a tall spire of meat where a head is located on a human, near the top of this spire is a vaguely humanoid mask devoid of most facial features. At the top of the spire are eight fully functional fingers. No visible eyes, ears, nose or mouth.
Equipment: A 10ft pole comprised of tough wood with homunculus carapace on both ends
Skills and Abilities: Due to their alien biology their internal antenna allows them to perceive the world based entirely on waves, airwaves for shape and sound and lightwaves for colour as well as other wavelengths but I doubt anyone's going be using radios or microwaves, another trait shared by all faceless is their ability to learn voraciously, they are capable of learning by observation, mimicking activities, reading, hearing and eating things, furthermore they are capable of growing new body parts to solve problems though this needs time to analyse the problem, gather and consume organic material and then grow the part the process can take up to days depending on the size and complexity of the part. Their carapace plating is completely disposable and can be safely removed if damaged to a point where it is no longer useful. Faceless also struggle to feel pain which helps when they remove parts of themselves to upgrade or replace thus is due to their decentralised nervous system. Furthermore the faceless can safely eat and digest any organic matter even if it's horribly rotten as they are naturally immune to infections due to their tendency to simply devour whatever's infecting them. Crown of Fingers can expel a stream stream of corrosive acids a short distance and can of course grip things with it's decorative crown.
Biography: A former Slave unsure of it's place in the universe, Crown of Fingers is one of many faceless that was lost by in the mist, they acted as a general construction overseer before the mist however they lack any sense of aesthetics as they used to simply instruct others to instructions. At the time of the flood they and other faceless were in transit to a separate colony.

Time had passed, feasts were held as the faceless learned to celebrate, both their mew freedom and a new friend that had been delivered to them. It was a good happy time.
But not for Crown of Fingers, it was restless, it had seen how the water and land had married so close, it saw the land nearby. Perhaps there could be more things out there, if not to parley and befriend then certainly to eat. For even though there was a modest farm of herbs for Kua and a steady supply of vegetation and neat suitable for her it would grow tiring. Trueborn were like that.
"Kinforms." Began Crown of Fingers addressing the faceless homuncli "Great land is beyond short sea! All who want stay shall stay, all who venture out may go!" With a great exclamation the overseer brought the creatures to the coast revealing simple docks and boats made of resin and twisted wood and organic structures.
The faceless were truly free, free to roam wherever they pleased, no more masters. No more cages.

Several oddly shaped boulders were stacked on top of each other, forming a comical facsimile of a snowman. Instead of a full face however, the top boulder just had eyebrows.
A flying boot missed the top of the head by an inch, which was a good thing.
Kua's body twirled and another boot flew an inch to the left of the sculpture, followed by another to the right. Her black gambeson whipped the air, and its long shadows flashed across the dirt. She abruptly stopped, momentum vanishing into dents in the earth. She lunged forward, and a high snap kick grazed the rock man. It made the lightest scrape, which made her wince. Oops.
As soon as her shoulder had healed, Kua had began practicing how to miss every day. After all, she wasn't training to fight the Faceless. She was training to protect them.
An invisible sword hand lashed at the rock man, and Kua sliced at the wrist with a hand strike. A shield bash was pushed back with a side kick. A mace was redirected, and the body attached to it thrown. She imagined a zweihander, too heavy and strong to block with limbs. Kua's sword sang from its sheath and cut a wide vertical arc in a microsecond.
Kua still wasn't sure what she was going to do, if she would remain on the island or travel with one of the expedition. But either way she decided that, with Whitehall possibly millions of miles (heck, light-years) away, the Faceless would be her new people for now.
She paused a bit to catch her breath. A part of her felt silly. A good number of the Faceless could defend themselves. Cannot Heal was probably much stronger than her. But then again that wasn't really the point. The Faceless deserved to enjoy an existence where they wouldn't have to draw Trueborn blood anymore. It would be easier for her to help preserve that existence from a position of personal strength.
Besides that, her routine was just a force of habit. She had spent so long practicing how to protect civilians from undead and corrupted beings, that she really didn't know what else to do with that time. Anyways, it was good exercise. And even the Faceless could grow tired of listening to flute music.

Kua sheathed her sword and turned to Travels Far, grinning.
"I am too kind to afford to be defenseless," she said lamentably. "I want to be strong so I have the privilege of being kind."
As soon as she saw Travel's Far, she made her decision.
"I will go with you and your boat. I think Apples can maintain the farms without me."
She had been leaning towards this decision from the beginning. Her supply bag, including medicinal herbs, was already packed.

"The boat is ready. Crown of Fingers already gone, traveling with Turns Pages search for neighbour. We bring tree foods foe you."
Mused the creature, a sort of quiet excitement crept into it's voice. An eagerness to explore the land for some reason other than to bring suffering.
Travels Far would lead Kua to the makeshift docks, a jetty of twisting wood and resin and stone led to the watter and few small boats of faceless make. Adorned with vegetation and polished stones.

"Oh, I hope Crown of Fingers will be alright." If anyone deserved adventure and happiness, it was the leader of the faceless who first dared to adopt a speck of individuality.
As she approached the beach side, she felt nostalgia over the crude dock which she watched be constructed. It was was mighty and primal, but also endearing in its simplicity and practicality. It was very much a faceless dock, though it still had a heart.
"Had a feeling you'd be among those to explore. Part of your name, your sense of self."
The faceless' accent had honestly grown on her.
