Roleplay posts: 104
Age: 90 (appears early 20s)
Appearance: A thin half-elf, whose olive skin has a greenish tint. Slightly pointed ears. Noticeably wide grin. Dark brown eyes and straight black hair.
Her knuckles are calloused with little scars.
Equipment: A pitch black long coat-style gambeson and a kettle helmet. A longsword inscribed with runes. A pouch of medicinal herbs. A buckler with a long chain attached to it.
A clay flute. A pair of fuzzy pink earmuffs.
A thick black book filled with strange notes...
Skills and Abilities: Kua possesses remarkable gymnastic and martial arts abilities. Her kinesthetic intelligence is very high. She is also a skilled sword fighter and unconventional buckler wielder. Kua also possesses the potential for fire and holy magic. The mists keep it at bay, but the force of her emotions can occasionally overcome it.
She is quite skilled with a flute.
She struggles with complex abstract concepts and mathematics, and demonstrates no social fear. She has a heart condition that requires periodic herbal treatment.
Biography: Kua Redford was born with a disability similar to William's Syndrome. Her parents were overprotective and fearful Kua would never be able to live a normal life. However, Kua also possessed a fierce, independent drive. What started as basic self-defense lessons became an obsession with becoming a warrior so that she could survive on her own.
Kua was enabled by the King of her city-state of Whitehall, a man who saw great potential in her. He had her further trained so she could fulfill her wish of becoming a great paladin someday. Although there were many doubters and Kua's progress was slow, the king went to his deathbed still believing in her dream.
(It didn't hurt that the king was secretly her grandfather. But that is a very long story.)
Because Kua is a half-elf, she ages slowly. Bigots from her world believe her "condition" to be a result of her being a half-breed.

Kua nodded. "Fire and flesh food sounds good. Don't worry about the plants. I will explore the island and study them when I have time."
She put a finger on a chin and thought for a moment. "When my shoulder is better, I will help protect the faceless. Maybe more true borns will come, and some will not understand you. But I will show them you are good people. And if they do not listen, or if they are not good, then I will fight them. I do not need to be ordered. I will order myself."
She glanced over at Travel's Far. "Do Faceless give hugs?"
She learned the hard way that hugs were not universally welcome among all people and professions.

Crown of Fingers gave a slight bow of its neck. At Kua's statement of protecting the faceless and assurance that she did not need orders.
"I not order Trueborn anyhow, not place of me. " They replied with a touch of humour in its granite-like voice.
However at the question of a hug the three homunculi simply looked at eachother, confused. Turns Pages quickly ficked through it's tome before looking at the other two making a few odd sounds.
There was a brief awkward silence before Travels Far piped up. "Turns Pages wishes to ask what a 'hug' is we do not know of them." Akwardness laced the distorted mercurial voice of the vaguely humanoid thing.

"Oh, well..."
Kua put her notebook away and stretched her arms apart widely. "Well, it's, it's a type of greeting. It's..."
She felt sort of silly with her arms wide apart.
"Beings who are close, who do not fear each other, who trust each other, and who require a signal of comfort and safety-"
She very gently advanced towards Travels Far. "Just watch."
She hugged him, gently, and then let him go. "This greeting is special to me. Not all true born use it so willingly. So you have to be careful who you give it to and when. But it is my favorite greeting. It is part of my blessing and curse. Haha."
(Kua was a strange one, but if nothing else, she was very self-aware.)

Turns Pages observed and grabbed a slab of nearby slate as one of it's long trailing arms arched round like a Scorpion's tail and began to etch into it, a faint hissing sound could be heard as it wrote.
Travels Far seemed confused yet content, they nodded and spoke "a gesture of protecting another with your body. Yes?"
Turns Pages stopped scribbling and looked back up at Kua for conformation of Travels Far's interpretation of a hug's meaning.

Kua thought for a moment. "Hmm, HMM! Yes, I believe that is its origin. Also very useful when it's cold."
She was greatly intrigued by the scorpion's tail, where once again a normal person would have been horrified.
"Oooh, that's is a very cool power." Kua held up her hand to her face and focused very intently on her palm. A tiny little ember appeared, glowing hot red. But it quickly faded.
"Mmm, I used to have the power to make fire. But when I came to this world, the power stopped working. It's the same way the evil one's infesting thing stopped working."
Kua shrugged. She seemed strangely undaunted by the revelation. Powers don't make a person a hero after all, but rather it's the people who use them.

Upon hearing Kua compliment it's limb Turns Pages stopped writing and decided to give a simpler demonstration of how the arm worked, holding the limb over the dirt and stone, letting a small dribble of acid come out which fell to the earth before sizzling as it ate into the ground.
Pleased at this demonstration Turns Pages quickly resumed using the acid secreting finger to etch more words into the slab before seizing a second one, passing the first over to Turns Pages who angled it so Kua could get a good look, unaware she probably couldn't read the Empyrean hieroglyphics that had been burned into the stone.

As Kua observed the acid writing, she opened her notebook again and compared her letters to the Empyrean hieroglyphics.
"Huh, you have different squiggles than me."
There were actually two types of squiggles in Kua's notebook. The first kind consisted of groups of "common" phonetic letters, at least common in her world. The letters used various combinations of lines, curves, and closed spaces. However, occasionally there were cuneiform-like symbols that were accented by little teardrop shapes. These symbols were somewhat curved and ornate, giving them an organic feel, like clusters of tree branches. They were interspersed with the other more common letters.
Kua's writing was actually quite neat.
"The human ones are really orderly and efficient. But some elven words can mean things that require whole human sentences. I learned them from my parents. My father was human, my mother elven. Those are the types of trueborn I come from."

Age: 80+
Appearance: Around 9ft tall with a body visually composed of a red marbled fleshy substance and hard bony plates, three legs terminating in roughly spherical nubs, a tall spire of meat where a head is located on a human, near the top of this spire is a vaguely humanoid mask devoid of most facial features. At the top of the spire are eight fully functional fingers. No visible eyes, ears, nose or mouth.
Equipment: A 10ft pole comprised of tough wood with homunculus carapace on both ends
Skills and Abilities: Due to their alien biology their internal antenna allows them to perceive the world based entirely on waves, airwaves for shape and sound and lightwaves for colour as well as other wavelengths but I doubt anyone's going be using radios or microwaves, another trait shared by all faceless is their ability to learn voraciously, they are capable of learning by observation, mimicking activities, reading, hearing and eating things, furthermore they are capable of growing new body parts to solve problems though this needs time to analyse the problem, gather and consume organic material and then grow the part the process can take up to days depending on the size and complexity of the part. Their carapace plating is completely disposable and can be safely removed if damaged to a point where it is no longer useful. Faceless also struggle to feel pain which helps when they remove parts of themselves to upgrade or replace thus is due to their decentralised nervous system. Furthermore the faceless can safely eat and digest any organic matter even if it's horribly rotten as they are naturally immune to infections due to their tendency to simply devour whatever's infecting them. Crown of Fingers can expel a stream stream of corrosive acids a short distance and can of course grip things with it's decorative crown.
Biography: A former Slave unsure of it's place in the universe, Crown of Fingers is one of many faceless that was lost by in the mist, they acted as a general construction overseer before the mist however they lack any sense of aesthetics as they used to simply instruct others to instructions. At the time of the flood they and other faceless were in transit to a separate colony.

This revelation prompted more hurried scribbling from Turns Pages who had spent the majority of their time in the empire stuck in an archive tower and thus had little practical knowledge on the different races in it's world let alone others.
Crown of Fingers turned back to face Kua. "You are curious Trueborn, I think it good for you explore colony, if want." They paused in deep thought for a moment. "Ah wait, before you explore I warn you of two. Two faceless you be wary about: Cannot Heal and Loyal, they not like rest." Crown of Fingers harsh scraping voice was tinged with a solemnity that had not surfaced before.

Kua's stomach started to growl again. "I will explore and give you time to make fire and flesh food. Trueborn can also eat some plants, fruits, mushrooms, and roots, but some are dangerous. I might be able to recognize which is which if you find some. I spent a lot of time living in forests."
Kua pulled out her writing implement upon hearing of Cannot Heal and Loyal. "Cannot Heal and Loyal? Please, what do they look like? Because of my uh, blessing curse, I will not fear them unless I am warned in advance that they are dangerous and why."

Crown of Fingers lowered their body language and a touch of despondency tinged it's voice.
"Cannot Heal is distinct, they were warrior of the last war, all were...Cannot Heal fought on front, too much, too hard. Iron coats the body, Cannot Heal is scarred, body and flesh. They fought many Ironborn and Trueborn. Too much death, I not know how react to you."
Crown of Fingers paused and let out a tired sound that seemed to be a sigh of sorts.
"Loyal never like us even in the empire, Old masters make it so we cannot think only obey. Go too hard in Loyal, in empire Loyal barely obey, not think enough. Here Loyal act like rest of us under Old masters. Not dangerous but think should avoid, form is mutable but always has large supply of flesh, like bag."

Kua nodded solemnly at the descriptions of Cannot Heal and Loyal. She took notes of what the creatures look like. "Their stories make me sad. I will try to avoid them. But I still will not fear them unless they attack me. It is strange. Though they seem dangerous, I feel a connection with them for being strange."
Kua looked up from her book. "My grandfather was also strange. He was a soldier, but he endured a curse that made him a monster. But as a monster, he was able to fight for good, because he had a strong will. He was a hero. But while he was cursed, people feared and hated him. It wasn't until the curse was lifted that people started to like him, and treat him like a true born. For some reason, Cannot Heal reminds me of him. If I cannot avoid him, then I will try to show him kindness. But if he does not want it, I will understand."
She put her book away and turned to Travels Far. "Thank you for bringing me here and for helping me. I like your people. I will go explore now."
She bowed to Crown of Fingers and to Turns Pages.

The two faceless bowed in return as Kua turned off, Turn pages continuing to etch and scribble as Kua walked off. Making all sorts of notes on the information that the elf had given it.
Crown of Fingers turned back to Travels Far, questioning it on Kua, and after receiving satisfactory answers presented a few ideas regarding what could be done with the salvage from the ship, presenting a drawing etched into a tablet, after a brief discussion Crown of Fingers relayed orders for a small fire to be started a flesh for the Trueborn to be prepared.

And so, Kua started her exploration.
As far as she could tell, the community of faceless wasn't massive. There were perhaps no more than a hundred individuals. And each faceless was unique and strange. She followed any faceless (that didn't match the descriptions of Loyal and Cannot Heal) for as long as she could without making them uncomfortable.
The way the faceless ate vegetation reminded her somewhat of large cows. Their non-standard orifices reminded her of slimes. Their general lack of hostility and large frames reminded her, well of cows again. Their diligence and work ethic reminded her of ants. And their odd ruminating vibrations reminded her, well, of cows, again.
At one point, she got the very odd idea of trying to feed one. She found some leafy branches which were out of the way of the carved path, and brought them to the slowest faceless she could find. She figured if the faceless were going to feed her, she ought to at least try to return the favor.
Her travels around the colony brought her in contact with more vegetation, and she spotted a few herbs and leaves in the piles that the faceless were gathering which seemed very similar to what was used to make her tea. She'd politely ask if she could have these in exchange for some of the branches she found on the island.
Kua had decided very quickly that she liked the faceless, and didn't care what their past was like. Their alien, twisted forms were charming and funny to her.
Kua wanted to head up into the mountains to see their storage caves, but she decided perhaps she shouldn't wander too far, so as to not risk encountering the two she had been warned about, and to not miss dinner.

The faceless with the herbs couldn't properly understand what the Trueorn was saying but she did seem to express intrest in the smaller leafy biomatter and offered thicker, larger biomatter in return for the leaves, such a deal seemed curious but Trueborn were strange creatures who frequently found value in valueless things, The Faceless extended a long arm that had been bunched up like rubber into the pile and retrieved a large handful of the leaves, however instead of giving the leaves to Kua it simply sat there leaves in one hand with the other hand outstretched as if expecting something.

Kua Redford
Dedicated

Kua placed several large branches into the outstretched arms. Then, if allowed, she'd take the leaves. She pick through them and sort out the ones that were suitable for her tea, and then separate them out into a pile. If possible, she'd return to the Faceless and turn over any leftover leaves, and then show it the ones she was interested in.
"These ones are special to me."
For additional context, she'd show the faceless her original pouch of dried herbs, and compare the two side by side. There would be a lot of hand-signaling and use of one-word sentences as she tried to convey to the faceless that this is what she wanted.
