Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 305
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

"Sure I'll take a little. Thank you."
Jun takes a sip of the hot cup and quickly hands it back to Asadrack. She didn't want to deprive anyone too much and really just wanted to try it. "That stuff prevents scurvy. Not really sure how it works though."
She looks over in the direction of the waterfall and creek. "While we're waiting, maybe we should get to higher ground in case the river stars overflowing. Maybe we can check out the nearest traps too."
She grips her walking stick spear tightly in one hand, perhaps betraying a bit of nervous, busy-body energy.

Everyone around Asa seemed a bit nervous, it was understandable though, the waters had distroyed entire worlds but Asa was calm, he always enjoyed the rain, he turned to Jun "Wouldn't leaving make harder for Düen to find us ? Even our footsteps would disappear quickly under the rain."
Packing everything weren't difficult and Asadrack would carry everything he could, if the river overflowed it would be a problem, he was considering the options.
"What if we wait a bit, keep our eyes and ears open and if we need to move we move ?"

The sound of thunder boomed overhead and the wind picked up, howling. The storm was a nasty one, that was for certain. All of a sudden, a blinding flash of lightning filled the sky and there was a nearby cracking sound that was rather awful, truth be told. A tree had been struck not twenty yards from where the trio was. They should probably skidattle.

The Dwarf returns as they are finished getting ready to go, just as the lightning strikes.
"The ground starts ta rise over that way and I can see some cliffs in the distance. It will be about an hour or so of walking but there should be a cave or hollow that will provide enough shelter for us ta make it through this shite. Grab a rope and tie yerselves ta Basco and lets get moving. He will keep ya on the right path."
The bear was built for this sort of thing, they weren't. Of course, Düen had enough training to make up for that but the little group would need all the help they could get.

Jun picked a bad time to keep her eyes and ears open, for it was right then when the lightning hit. She flinched, and then looked in the direction of the tree. She studied the damage that had been done to it by the bolt.
Eh, 6/10.
She was relieved to finally see Duen and Basco return, and dutifully followed his instructions with the rope.
"As long as Basco's not feeling gassy," she said dubiously.

Asa did as the dwarf said, he chuckled at Jun's joke, he would start moving with the group, he once again became silent again, watching their surroundings, the sound of the rain filled his ears, hopefully the sky wouldn't take long to clear and they could carry out with their mission.

It was amazing how calm they were given the fact that the lightening just struck so close to them, Magda mused as she took the rear with the rope. "I think we are safe with the bear," she said to Asa who seemed to be looking around a lot.
The lightening streaked across the sky in blinding light, and then hail started to fall by the time they were in the cover of the trees.

The biggest danger that the group would face, in so far as Basco was concerned, was getting pulled along if they went too slow. The big bear wasn't going too fast but he also wasn't stopping as they would learn if any of the group tried to slow down to check on something.
The torrential rain comes down in sheets soaking them all to the bone as seconds tick into minutes, little sign of it letting up any time soon and thunder sounding too close for comfort. Still, it wasn't long before they spotted the cliffs Düen had spoken off the bear leading them as true as the dwarf had promised.
Speaking of, Düen returned to the group as they get about ten minutes out from the cliffs. While his limbs might have been shorter than the human's, he moved at a dwarven march. The unique ground churning relentless pace of the dwarves that few other races could measure up to without a similar amount of stubborn stamina.
"I found a cave large enough fer us all. We aren't that far and we can get a fire started right away."
Fortunately, he'd thought to gather up the leftover firewood from the night before so they could use that to get a fire going and to try out some more wood to keep it going through the night.

At first, Jun marched along with determination.
This quickly turned into begrudging acceptance as her gambeson and foraging basket gained about 20 pounds in rainwater. Jun might have tried using her magic to make them waterproof, but Basco gave her little time to stop and concentrate. So instead she focused on making her legs move.
By the time she made it to the cliffs, she was huffing and puffing.
Every exhalation released a small cloud of fog. Jun had managed to do one thing. She maintained a lump of warmth in her throat which made it easier to breathe and helped prevent her from catching a cold. Also, it looked kinda cool.

As the rain poured, the first thing that bothered him was the water, washing his hair in front of his face than the weight increase of the basket plus the other stuff he carried.
His expression seemed angry due to the weight he couldn't stop to releave, although he had military training for almost 16 years, the difficulty increase of walking on mud was draining his stamina.
He took long and paced breaths as to conserve his stamina, when the rope pulled on him he gave all he got and upped his pace, his muscles burned but he was determined to not fail again, he thought of Tana, he wasn't doing this for him but for her and her people and that gave him strength.

The rain would not let up. The wind blew in a dervish, slowing their progress even more even through the trees that blocked most of it out. The trees swayed and creaked with protest. Somewhere in the forest there was a great BOOM! The ground shook as a tree fell, roots up near them. The angry sky erupted and more hail.
But the portal to the cave soon loomed ahead. Sanctuary.

Düen reaches the mouth of the cave and pauses to watch the rest of the group as they approach. Holding up a hand but offering no explanation he would let Basco in first. If the other three listened to him then they would be spared when the big bear clambers into the opening and then proceeds to shake all of the excess water from his fur spraying the interior. The dwarf only entering after the big animal is finished since he didn't want a face full of smelly bear water.
Once he was inside he strips off his cloak revealing that he was remarkably dry underneath. He'd made the garment himself and he knew how to make sure a cloak was watertight. Shedding the excess water out of the open cave he wraps stomps over to the small pile of firewood he has stacked near the exit to the cave. Better to have it there so it would rise and then head out then have it fill the cave with deadly smoke.

Jun welcomes the pause even if it is just outside the cave. Watching the bear shake itself dry actually gives her a chuckle.
Once permitted to enter, Jun puts down her gear and begins undoing the straps of her gambeson. As she does she looks at Duen's cloak and notes how dry Duen is.
"Wax? Leather lining?"
She folds up her soaking wet gambeson and places it near the edge of the cave, away from Duen's woodpile of course. She sits nearby it and places a hand over the fabric. Little thin blue strands of energy whip out from her fingertips and thread themselves into the material. Jun focuses intently as the water in the gambeson drips out faster than usual. The little pools of water steer themselves out of the cave, like crawling slime along the rocky floor.
Without her coat, the old burn patches on her left arm and little dots of scars on her right arm are now visible. But she doesn't act self-conscious about it. Her slacks and shirt are damp as well, but she seems unconcerned with these, too.

Asa stopped at the entrance of the cave and watched as the bear shook the water from its fur, once inside and out of the rain he took his shirt off and placed in a place where it could dry.
The man look unamused, too much water was pouring from the sky, even for someone that enjoyed the rain, he sighed, at least he could let his arms and legs rest for a few moments, he did some stretches and asked Düen if he wanted help with the fire.
After helping the dwarf, or not depending on his answer, he sat near the fire so he wouldn't catch a cold, that was the last thing he needed, he sat cross legged and tapped his right indicator finger on his knee, he was wet, his muscles would probably hurt on the next day and the rain was delaying their job, although patient, he hates sitting around doing nothing.

Deeper in the cave, there was a sound. "Uuurrrrrrrrrrrr," came the noise... but it was clear that it was distant.
Magda craned her head about and said, "What was that?"
