Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 292
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

*Time skiiiiiip*
Even though she had a lot on her mind, Jun was able to sleep soundly that night. Spending an hour sensing the activity of earthworms beneath one's head will do that to a person. She learned odd things about the worms, like how they were eusocial and had something of a leader they followed. She dream of going on grand adventures in service of the earthworm king.
She would wake up relatively early in the morning, just before the crack of dawn. As she crawled out of her tent, she'd make her way to the little girl's latrine, and then afterwards get in a quick sponge bath and do some spear training before starting the day. She didn't know if she'd be the first one up or not.

Asa went to bed the night before thinking of the woman he wanted to marry, making sketches of her in his mind.
He woke up a few moments after Jun and, although he slept a good amount of hours he didn't feel rested, he let out a big and long sigh he used a bush to relive himself and pass by Jun after she came back from her bath, aiming to do the same "Good morning," he greeted her, cleaned himself and came back, checked his spear and waited for the part to decide to move on with their mission.

By the time the three young people were getting up, Düen was stomping back into camp with a small load of firewood. The old dwarf liked starting his day with a warm mug of tea so he was feeding the embers from last night to get the fire back up. Putting the pot on to boil as he plops down while the young folk shake off their sleep.

Jun passes by Asadrack. "Good morning. Careful, the water's chilly." She is brushing her wet hair and heading back to her camp to grab her spear.
As she arrives, she sees Duen is already awake and starting a fire. "I thought Magda had the last watch."
She was actually surprised everyone woke up so early. But it made sense. Jun's compulsive training regimens often meant she was up at the crack of dawn to get started on the day. Asadrack, as an ex-mercenary, essentially lived the life of a soldier. And Duen was an experienced woodsman who probably wanted to always get the jump on his prey. Jun didn't know Magda very well, but her experience in the woods was probably similar to Duen's, minus perhaps a couple hundred years of seniority.
There would be no out-morning person-ing each other in this group. That was actually pretty funny.
Though she supposed Duen had the edge since he had time to gather firewood for his tea...

While everyone else thought they were up earlier than the other, it turns out that the winner of them all was actually Magda, who had taken the last watch. Not that it mattered to her, she wasn't in competition with anyone else. The party would soon hear the distant rumble of thunder as a storm began to roll in over the small island. Magda had already packed her bedroll while everyone else was sleeping, and would soon find her helping the others put their stuff away while Duen worked to get the fire going again. "I set some traps while patrolling around the camp. We should check them on our way back through here to the camp."

"Aye, we will want to make time while we can. Storms coming and I'd rather find ourselves a cave to weather it out in."
Düen remarks as he takes a long pull of his tea. The flavor coming from the pot of the stuff was quite distinct and the rest of the camp might recognize it as cedar.

"Honestly, I slept pretty well. Turns out counting earthworms is just as effective as counting sheep."
She had already started practicing thrusts with her spear when the rumbling came. "Damn." Along with packing her supplies, Jun also remembered the food they had foraged. She quickly raised the basket out of the dirt and unwrapped the cloth, making sure all the food was safe and sound.
"Hopefully we trapped something edible that won't put up much of a fight, and isn't too adorable."

They did not have long to linger. It started out as a miserable drizzle, which afforded them just enough time to get food in their gullets and pack up camp. Then the heavens opened up and the rain began to fall in earnest.
Magda lifted her face to the rain and said loudly enough to be heard over the downpour, "We should find shelter before we move on."

"Aye, you'll want something warm in yer belly for whats ta come."
While Düen was a firm believer in nothing come for free, his help in this venture was technically paid for. With a promise sure but it was paid for so he wouldn't begrudge the young man some of the cedar tea.
It wasn't long after they are packed that the rain starts coming down hard. There was no denying the need to move camp in his downpour and he looks to the small group.
"I'll range ahead and look fer somewhere suitable ta lay our heads out of this rain."

"Well, I suppose rain's not the worst thing that can happen on a hunting trip."
Jun recalls the thunder and faces the others. "It's tempting to take shelter under the tallest trees, but those are the ones that attract lightning. So we should avoid them."
It wasn't the most esoteric bit of elemental knowledge, but it's better to be redundant than sorry.

"Thanks," said Magda and took a sip of the tea.
Soon enough, camp was being dismantled as the rain let up for long enough to do so. It was clear they would be stuck there if they didn't take care of things as soon as they could. The downpour came again and Magda couldn't help but feel a sense of panic when this happened, remembering the torrential rain that brought the flood to the Usque.
But they would get through it.

Düen ranges ahead of the group. They would want to make some progress today but only far enough to find suitable shelter. Well rain wouldn't kill you outright, spending a whole day soaked to the bone wasn't good for your health. They'd want shelter and a fire sometime around midday.
