Magda had been tasked with going along with the others as a replacement for Uma, who lay in the infirmary tent healing. She was indifferent to the whole thing, wary of those who were not originally from the Usque as they sometimes ended up being hostile tricksters or people who needlessly tore down the forest for their own selfish reasons without even considering the creatures they were displacing in the process. She was not there to hunt, but rather, to help protect those who were out doing so.
The walk had been a long one and mostly uneventful as they found things like berries and nuts to fill baskets with.
She led the party on down the stream until they could hear the sound of falling water. "We'll make camp here," she yelled over the sound.

As the party was walking, Asadrack made sure to keep an eye out for any possible danger even after the group stopped he didn't let his guard down, he didn't trust that forest anymore as more than once he saw dangerous creatures hurt those around him.
He had a serious expression as he was concentrated on their surroundings, after stopping, he put down the basket he carried and held his spear on his hand, after making sure they were relatively safe he helped to set camp.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 305
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

Like Asadrack, Jun arrived with her guard up. The last time they had come to a source of water like this, they met an auroch who didn't want to share. Fortunately, Jun had brought something she didn't have before, a self-made wooden spear much like Uma's, which she found also made a much better hiking stick than a long sword. Of course, she still had her longsword, but she would treat it as a sidearm instead of her main weapon. And of course, she had her bolas.
"Duen, are dangerous animals likely to approach the waterfall? Or are they more likely to stay downstream? Should we bundle our foraged goods in something so their scent doesn't attract anything?"

Düen trumbled along with the rest of the small group easily keeping pace despite his short legs. The sound of the waterfall tumbling downward caught their ears and the young woman Magda decided to take the lead declaring this is where they would set up camp. Before he can say much about it though the reckless one was bombarding him with questions. At least they were good questions the dwarf reaching up to scratch at his nose.
"It's a water source. Some of the more skittish ones won't approach but fer the most part anywhere next ta the water is likely ta see some sort o' animal life. We dun want to stay right next ta the falls, the sound can drown at noises for the one on watch and iffin were too close ta the water animals are more likely ta get close to the camp. Down stream a wee bit and further inta the treeline will be the smart move. And aye, any food ye have ye want ta secure iffin ya don't want to attract racoons or their ilk, bears, and other animals that won't be afraid ta try and steal yer stores ta fill their belly."

Magda saw the wisdom and nodded, "Aye, lets do it." And she said no more than that. She jerked her head toward Asa and said to him, "This way, we can barely hear each other talk." She pointed in the direction that they had just come from. They would have to backtrack a little ways but she wasn't interested in getting mauled by a bear, especially when they had one around already.

Asa nodded, grabbed the basket and followed Magda, the man seemed awfully quiet, perhaps he was too concentrated on their surroundings to speak, that, or he just wasn't in the mood to talk, whatever it was he seemed ready to, for once, succeed.

Jun grabbed her own basket and joined the rest, moving to the new location to help set up camp.
She had the idea to dig a little indentation into the dirt, collect their treasures into a single basket, and wrap the basket with some spare cloth and put it in the ditch. It wasn't fully buried, but the goods would be easier to conceal and ward to prevent their scent from leaching out.
"Maybe we should try to take something besides an auroch, help maintain balance in the rest of the forest. Not that I'm opposed to a rematch but, I suppose Uma's already been avenged." Her eyes lingered on Magda as she spoke, then moved around searching out the rest of the party's thoughts.

It doesn't take them long to find a suitable spot between the trees to set up camp. The large trunks providing a bit of disruption for the sound coming from the falls, they could still be heard but it was muted now. Looking over Düen spots Jun digging a hole of some kind.
"Iffin yer digging a latrine ye'll want ta put it a wee bit further out."
The dwarf observes as he heads into the woods with a hatchet to gather up firewood for their super that evening. Leaving Basco behind to guard the camp, the bears presence would also serve to help things go smoother.

Asa approached Jun "Do you need some help with that ?" Those were the first words it came out of the man's mouth ever since they stepped outside camp, he didn't looked particularly troubled even if it was a little uncharacteristic of him to be that silent.
If Jun accept his help, he would aid her on finding a suitable spot and whatever else she would need, if not, he would help Magda set up camp.

Jun's lips pressed together so hard her front teeth almost cut her inner lip gum.
I refuse to give Duen the satisfaction of laughing out loud.
Jun nodded at Asadrack. "Sure. Nice thing about digging a ditch is you can always use more help, and anyone can help dig a hole."
When they were done, Jun would wrap up the basket, making sure no dirt or moisture got in, and then place them in the ditch to ward them. Actually warding them took an uncomfortably long time; Jun needed some helpful earthworms to crawl out of the dirt and draw sigils in the earth around the basket with their wormy bodies. Some leaves and herbs would have worked just as well, but Jun took it as a training opportunity.
Next she'd help Asadrack and Magda set up the rest of the camp, and occasionally wave hi to Basco.

Düen the dwarf returned to the camp with an armful of firewood just as they were starting to cover the basket. Watching the two for a moment it takes him a second to piece together what in the blue blazes they are doing. Its when Jun starts the sigils he figures it out.
"Lass, that's a good idea and something I would do iffin I wanted to hide a supply cache. But when yer on the move, quicker and easier ta just tie a rope around the basket and hoist it up into the tree branches. That way ya can retrieve it easy iffin ya need ta retrieve something from it."

Jun looked at Duen, then up at the tree, then down at the ground, then over at Asadrack, then down at the ground again. Her face turned slightly red.
She held up a finger to Duen to make a counter point, but couldn't think of one. "Good point. I will remember that."
She sat up and stretched her back.
"Welp, I... am just gonna go dig a latrine over there." She pointed to a nearby tree signifying she was gonna put it behind it.
"I like digging holes. Digging holes is fun." She muttered to herself (audibly) as she walked off.

For a moment he thought the lass was going to argue with him. However, it appeared as though she recognized that her pride wasn't worth an argument. A decision he could respect since it meant he didn't have to have an argument.
clearing a spot between the trees Düen digs a small pit of his own rims it with rocks and then makes a fire inside of it. Blowing on the catching wood until they have a cheery little blaze. By the time it was ready to start dinner the embers would be hot enough.
