Appearance: When you want to hide a tree, you hide it in a forest. Similarly, if you wanted to hide Katiana, you would put her in a crowd of humans. Brown hair, brown eyes, thin features, and an unremarkable height may not set her apart, but the way she manipulates her expressions and gallivants around certainly do. Those who know her are familiar with a particularly mischievous left-sided smirk, above which forms a dimple. Those who have yet to meet her will immediately know her for the way she bounces from one place to the next, holding her skirts in her hands.
____________________________________________________
Equipment: A recurve bow made of elm, a small wood-cutting ax, and a skinning knife complete Katiana's non-exhaustive equipment. Being an adventurer who often loses herself in the wilderness, she also favors flint and tinder, rope, medicines, a waterskin, sewing supplies, and food rations.
____________________________________________________
Skills and Abilities: Though not particularly concerned in the art of warfare, Katiana has been a hunter for as long as she could hold a bow, and over the years, she became proficient with it. One could assume that if she needed to point her arrow at a charging warrior rather than a boar, she would have the same chances of hitting it. Years of adventuring have also taught her skills in survival.
Though she has no skills in magic, nothing is stopping her from learning. Katiana's family has a history of mages, though none have been particularly gifted.

"Either way, a toast. It's been quite a while since I last saw you. Perhaps a couple of weeks? It's strange, being able to tell time again, even though it's been one entire passing of the moon since we landed here. To good company." Katiana held her mug up. "I believe the others should be arriving soon. I stopped by their tents when I got back, just like I did yours. You've set up quite beautifully over there! If you don't mind, I'll have to take a look at your stock. For documentation, of course!" She put a hand on her cheek, giving Shyv'Ahna an innocent expression. The woman was obsessed with writing things down in her little journal, especially details about the flora and fauna that surrounded them. "I have quite a bit to share from my journey, speaking of! I-"
A squeak came from the hunter's mouth when Coatl entered. For a brief moment, it looked as though every single hair on her head and neck stood on end before floating back down in messy strands around her face. Her expression was of utter disgust... and morbid curiosity. "Coatl! Gods be damned, what is that thing? It looks downright venomous. I-" She had to pause as two more joined their company, holding more terrors from the deep in their hands. "I've never gotten anything like that near my mouth unless I was desperate."
She continued to go on bantering with them, all up until the moment a slap echoed through the tent. Many eyes turned toward Alden and Nina, including Katiana's. She was stunned into silence as she watched, hand gripping into a fist. What in the world was going on here!?

Shyv'Ahna

Roleplay posts: 50
Appearance: Shyv'ahna, or Ahna for short, is an Av' nomad woman, standing at 180cm (6ft) tall. Though tall for a woman, she is in fact the average for most Av' women. She has light lavender skin, intersected by feint tattoos that glow while using magic, her eyes are golden, and her hair a very dark purple. Though mostly humanoid, she possesses a set of bowed legs, not unlike other Av’, and a pair of horns that curl around her ears.
She adorns herself with jewellery, specifically gold caps to her horns, silver and golden rings, two on the right side of her eyebrow, four in her right ear, and one through her septum.
Her body type is strong and toned, forged through years of patient training, fighting, and more travel than most would do in a single life time. It is covered, much like her face, in tattoos, jewelry and the occasional scar, from top to bottom, though most would never know considering her rather conservative wardrobe.
Equipment: Ahna uses medium armour. Leather, light scaled metal, and chainmail make up the most of her regular outfit, but all under a dark blue poncho, adorned with golden stitching and traditional Av'rae patterns that dance across its light blue trim.
Her travelling armour consists of a chain vest and a scaled skirt that reaches her knees around the back and sides, leaving the front open, starting at her belt and fanning out. Over the chain vest, she usually wears a leather corset to keep it in place.
In a trunk inside her vardo, however, sits a much more elegant set of armour, one she hadn’t worn in quite some time, her Elder Guard armour. Forged from the finest metals in dwarven-supervised forges, her Elder Guard armour has both the toughness valued by dwarves, but the mobility favoured by the Av’rae. It’s an elegant suit, tailored and forged to fit Ahna’s form, with its cuirass, graves, skirt, bracers, and boot plating made from the finest mithril, a light but extremely sturdy metal. The trim and under suit are made of a soft, breathable cotton, as is the cape that covers one shoulder.
The helmet of her Elder Guard Armour is ornate, to say the very least. It’s a closed design from back to front, but with openings to slide up around her horns, and a T-shaped visor for her stunning golden eyes to peer out of. The front of the opening is often covered by a thin chain mail for protection, as is her neck guard.
The armour’s colour matches her standard pallet, with the mithril painted mostly in a purple, with its trim painted a fine, reflective gold. The cotton of her armour, such as her undersuit and cape, are a fine dark purple with golden stitching that matches her regular shawl.
Her weapons are just as expertly forged, her primary weapon being a two handed pole weapon most would consider a fauchard, a long pole with an ornate, curved blade attached to the top, the blade on one side of the weapon’s top while a hook sat on the other, giving her the option to slash, stab, and pull as necessary. Though most Av’rae prefer to fight with two handed weapons, Shyv’Ahna also carries an ornate dagger with a similarly curved blade, just in case.
Finally, she is also an adept with a crossbow, though she prefers to fight with her melee prowess.
For transport, Shyv’Ahna has a vardo, a caravan of sorts, that she uses to transport her things as well as live inside with comfort. Being of the nomadic sort, Shyv’Ahna has no desire to a standard home, one that doesn’t move, so a Vardo, pulled by her beast of burden Bahsel, does the trick perfectly.
Bahsel, her beast of burden, is a creature rarely seen without an Av’ companion. Nobody can understand why or how, but the Av’rae are one of the few people to find these creatures’ native land and tame them for both work and protection. Bahsel could be described as a large, muscular porcupine, with thigh legs, built perfectly for work, a thick hide to protect from predators, a pair of large front teeth, perfect for chewing on its usual diet of roots and plants, and finally a back covered in quills that not only stop melee attackers, but can also be shot outwards like a series of javelins, that grow back quicker than most would expect.
Together, Ahna and Bahsel travel the lands, always ready for the next adventure.
Skills and Abilities: Ahna has spent years training and being trained in combat, and she has become an expert fighter with two handed pole weapons, daggers, and hand to hand combat, making her a fierce enemy to face, or one hell of a good sparring partner if you don’t mind a few bruises. She also carries a crossbow, but she mostly uses it for hunting. She’s a great shot, but her preference is found in melee.
Before the end times and the escape from the destroyed lands, Ahna was a strong, and sometimes scary mage. The Av’rae are some of the more magically-tuned folk in the old world, and Ahna was no exception, but after travelling away she can feel her powers weaken, as if stopped by something. Normally she could conjured lightning and electricity in the palm of her hand, powering her attacks while also zapping her enemies as needed, and on the rare occasion, under a cloudy sky and with great inner rage, she could even conjure storms, but no longer. Now, she can barely use her magic at all. Perhaps she just needs to find new ways to channel it…
Being a nomad, Ahna is an expert traveller and guide, able to traverse most terrain and survive in some of the more harsh environments, making her an exceptional pathfinder, if asked nicely and presented with enough gold.
Allegiances: The Av'rae people.

Before she could reply to Katiana, the Av’ peers over to the front of the tent after her name is called, and cant help but sneer in disgust. “Mr. Coatl, what is with your fascination and affinity for phallic objects?” she asks, waving him away. “I wouldn’t dare feed that thing to Bahsel, let alone myself. It looks… chewy. Disgusting.” When the second thing was displayed, she can only shake her head in disbelief. “That does not look edible,” she concludes.
She shudders as she looks back to Katiana, the pair having been interrupted previously. She places two fingers on her brow, then out in a sort of half-arsed salute, having not picked up a glass for herself of which to toast with. “Shláinte,” she says, a traditional Av’rae toast to one’s health. “It has. I cannot say I am not jealous, to spend such time away from here would have been pleasant. Too many visitors, those asking for help from myself and Bahsel. Plough fields, move heavy cargo, they have even asked me to make furniture. I am obliged, the latter is pleasant and often solitary work, it is my craft, but I have yet to be visited by someone… tolerable, like you,” she says, giving Katiana a nudge with her elbow.
“You may see my stocks,” she says, a little hesitantly. “But it will take some convincing to part with any. Most are likely never to be seen again, so I am using them sparingly. At least until the seeds I have planted sprout. IF they sprout.”
She sits back and sighs. “You must tell me of your trip, Katiana, but if you call my Vardo a tent again, our friendship will take a turn. There is nothing tent-like about my home. Good, treated wood, solid frame, spacious, mobile, and warm.” She gives Kat another nudge. “Given time, I may need to build another one. They are a challenge, but a welcome one.” She peers out over the group again. “Come by tomorrow, tell me of your adventure over some tea-”
Before she can finish, the slap rings out over the tent. Usually, Ahna wouldn’t concern herself with the goings on of the regular human folk, but it was the former empress’ henchman slapping what appeared to be a much smaller woman. That brought Ahna to her feet.
“Here we go again,” she says, at first she seems to only be addressing those beside her, but her voice gets louder. “Some things will never change, even at the end of the world. Small men hiding behind those more powerful, thinking they can use violence to silence folk!” Her tattoos glow a little as the anger builds within her, one built from years as the recipient of such behaviour. “Someone smaller than you, and a woman, no less!” An arc of electricity dances across one of her horns for a small moment as she pulls her hood back, now standing. “Why don’t pick on someone your own size, eh? Maybe someone who will defend themselves?”
She looks to Naoki, anger burning in her eyes. “Control your brutish pet. His actions are a poor reflection on us all.” It was no secret that Ahna had no love for kings or emperors, and Naoki was no exception, regardless of the circumstances. If her lackey was so willing to strike someone for their words, what would he be willing to do? Especially the name of his captain, emperor, chieftain, or whatever she was in his small mind.

There was certainly quite a bit going on at the feast, that was for sure. Grandma’s attention was currently divided several ways, although her gaze for the most part stayed on Rain. However, her ears had been eavesdropping in on Naoki’s conversation, a conversation that seemed to be rapidly degrading. The sound of Alden’s slap that interrupted Rain’s proposal drew a flat and unamused look from the old woman towards Naoki’s little congregation.
Turning back to Rain, Grandma let out an irritated sigh. Did they really have to cause a scene like this at the feast of all places? The optics of Alden slapping some random cook at a public event like this… Even if the lass deserved it for her rudeness, doing it in public like this wasn’t the way. She could already imagine how word of this would spread around the camp and get twisted and exaggerated by Naoki’s detractors.
Finally getting a moment to respond, Grandma offered Rain an apologetic shrug. Rain might glean that the old woman’s annoyance at current events was more genuine than her smiling facade from earlier.
“I suspect everyone is just feeling a bit on edge. It’s understandable given current events after all.” If one couldn’t be on edge due to the end of the world, when was it ever acceptable? That didn’t mean the timing of this particular scuffle didn’t inconvenience her, but Grandma could understand it at least.
“As for your suggestion of a favor for a favor, that sounds quite agreeable to me. And have no worry, Naoki is fully willing to support my various- Goddamnit.” Grandma muttered the curse under her breath as Ahna’s words grew in volume and magic flowed through her. “Excuse me for just a moment Rain, I apologize but I do need to make sure things don’t get out of hand here.”
Tightening her grip on her cane, the old woman turned so she had a clear view of all parties near and around Naoki. If Rain was watching her closely, she might notice the purple gem that topped it seemed to have darkened to a pitch black. Her eyes quickly darted between Naoki, Alden, Nina, and now Shyv’Ahna. Her number one priority was ensuring the safety of Naoki, but not far after that was preventing any all-out fight from taking place. Given how many were present and who it seemed might be involved in such a thing… Well, Grandma didn’t care to imagine what type of mess that could cause.

The more he talked, the less Nina was afraid of him.
He could have been the most powerful man in the room, but if he got emotional that easily, that made him a poor master-of-shadows. Easy to manipulate. Alden had opened his heart. And that told Nina exactly where to strike in the future. His weakness was Naoki.
Not that he still couldn’t have her beaten to death later that day. But it was a start.
Her gaze flicked to the sovereign, an eyebrow raised, one foot in the air, shoulders raised in a half-shrug as if to say ‘what can you do?’. She’d been dismissed (well, she’d dismissed herself first), but it would have been rude to not watch Alden dig his own grave.
As far as Nina was concerned, everyone who mattered in the tent could see through the transparent façade of his words, into the real meaning.
She’d given him a chance to back down. But now he’d all but reminded everyone that, ultimately, what kept his empire going was violence.
He spoke of what Naoki had accomplished on strange oceans and lands, but everyone with eyes could see that the benefits had flown disproportionately much to her and her inner circle.
For that, they had to call her Lady and offer her more respect than their fellow men. What titles did the hunters get, who often died in the endless forest to get food like that they were now eating, or who returned with their sanity gone?
He spoke of her building an empire, as if that was something to be proud of, and not something to admit in tearful whispers at Conquerors Anonymous. Whether in conquest or betrayal, strategic marriages and/or suspicious deaths, an empire being built above often meant nothing for the vast majority of people below and, often, it was disruptive to their lives. All that it told Nina is that Naoki loved power. Still, that was a useful thing to know.
She wondered if Alden saw it as a façade. Probably not. Otherwise he would have never help break it.
When he finished speaking, Nina just smiled, quizzically. He’d made her points better than she could ever have. She turned to leave, when another voice raised, and lightning crackled.
Her face continued to burn with shame as she strode towards the exit. It was the fastest way she could think of to de-escalate the situation. She didn’t even fully wait to hear what the woman with lighting-crossed horns had to say. Just slowly shook her head at her.
The empress’s lapdog was hanging himself with his own rope, her eyes seemed to say, and you had to go ruin it? People would have felt uneasy remembering his temper. They would have started thinking. Now all they’d remember was the lightning.
Unless…That was the plan. The lightning magician could be on their side. Nina felt a chill go through her, and bit her lip.
“Frankly I take offense at not being regarded the most deadly person in the room.” She said, to no one in particular, but angrily waving a skewer at the mage just before sticking it in a potato that she took to go. The woman felt her temples pulsing. She wasn’t the only mage there, was she? Everything felt too bright all of a sudden. Swirly. Felt the metal strings crackling inside her. She had to leave, if only not to throw up.
She headed outside, wondering if the mystery mask man who’d waved at her was still around.

Skarlet uncorks her bottle and pours the red drink into a glass that she found. She walks back to where her family is, Wow, how great to have these family members back. She swirls the glass then drinks about half of the liquid, she lets out a satisfied sigh. What's all this trouble now though? Skarlet was enjoying some of the drama but things were starting to get out of hand.
"Sheesh, lighten up guys, there doesn't need to be any more fighting. Let's get back to celebrating not being packed in those ships like delicious sardines, celebrate being free again!" Skarlet takes another sip, yummy. She was starting to feel a nice buzz now and she wanted to get back to partying. When she can get a chance to have her ear, Skarlet whispers to Naoki about some other trouble she had on the Depravity.

Venus approached the tent with a thin smile on her lips. She had decided to dress up the slightest much, and wore a pair of emerald studs upon her ears, but other than that, she retained her regular attire from the ship. A neat, black jacket with gold buttons. Beneath the jacket, a light and airy white chemise, which fed into a very tight pair of black pants, that hugged her figure rather wonderfully. Bedazzling her hand was a shimmering ring, and a gemstone affixed to her collar added flare. Her shoes gave her a bit of additional height, and held a gold trim along the base of the heel. Venus entered the tent, and sauntered her way to the table, collecting a wide variety of odd foods and adorning her plate with them. She sniffed the air, and beneath the hazy stench that permeated the area, she felt the familiar taste of anger and resentment. She continued walking until she had a closer view of Naoki. Her eyes glanced quickly at Grandma, but it seems the other entity was rather preoccupied. That suited Venus just fine. "My my, it seems that I'm late to this little soiree." She pouted to herself. Her green eyes flared ever so briefly, and the faintest hint of her aura, whatever left of it that was capable of escaping anyways, shot outwards. Venus directed it primarily towards Naoki and the others near her, such as Alden, as a way to indicate her presence without having to actually re-introduce herself. 'Truly, you would think she'd recognize the energy of a centuries old goddess by now.' Venus thought, rather annoyed. She bundled her aura even tighter than before and suppressed a content sigh, feeling the warm tendrils of her magic coalesce upon herself. Watching the goings-on, Naoki is then struck by a presence she’s not felt for quite a while. Venus. Looking away, out across the crowd, Naoki spots her. A new skin (unsurprising), dressed very snappily indeed. For lack of such magics, Naoki makes eye contact and waves. A warm, finger-wiggling wave, obviously intended for someone she knows fairly well, as opposed to any of those standing around Venus. If Venus would like to approach, she’s free to, and there are some empty chairs in Naoki’s vicinity.

Roxanne stepped into the tent, hoping that nobody would begrudge her for being late. It hadn't been her fault, not really. She'd been accosted by a particularly insistent fortune-teller on the way here, a strange woman covered in golden jewelry who simply would not take no for an answer. The mystic had tried her best to get Roxanne to come to her tent for a palm reading, but Roxanne had rebuffed her. The encounter had reminded her of the street vendors and grifters back in Isra, an annoyance that she hadn't missed one bit. She hadn't wanted to pay, and besides, fortune-telling was forbidden to sun-worshippers. Of course, she had seldom paid much attention to what the clerics had to say back home, but it was a convenient excuse. When she'd heard of the feast, Roxanne had anticipated a party. It had been quite a while since the citizens of the little settlement had been given the opportunity to have a nice, generous meal, not to mention some of the remaining wine stores from the ship. The latter was what had drawn Roxanne to the feast in the first place, and she'd expected a raucous crowd. What she found, however, was a tent full of tension and hushed whispers. Taking a glass of wine from a makeshift table, Roxanne made her way towards the familiar faces, eavesdropping as she went. From what she could gather, Naoki's bodyguard had struck some poor innocent woman. She frowned, draining her glass of wine and picking up another as she picked her way through the crowd. What a scandal! Had the man perhaps had too much to drink? Had the woman stood too close to that ridiculous cat-eared woman, somehow causing the man to take offense? She'd always thought the man was sort of handsome in a brutish sort of way, but the fact that he would do such a thing sickened her. It was impossible to get the whole story from the bits of conversation she could hear, and so she made her way to where Coatl of the Imilla and Katiana Graves were standing. "What's going on?" she whispered, nodding towards the bodyguard. "Did he really hit some poor woman? Gosh, I've seen him around but never assumed he'd do anything like that. What's that all about?" Spotting Shyv'Ahna getting into some manner of confrontation, she added: "And what's she on about?"

"My dear Naoki," Venus begins with a smirk. "When have you ever known me to speak anything but that which would please you?" She finishes slyly, not even bothering to cover her own mouth. "As for my travels, they were thankfully without needing to swim. I simply took a ship and sailed here." She explains, as if it were that simple. Then again, the particular details were ill-suited for an event like this.
Venus spears a piece of meat into her mouth, chewing it and swallowing before opening her mouth again. "It is my understanding that, due to this cataclysmic event, you are in need of re-establishing a government. I would like to assist you in rebuilding a government." She proposes casually, as if she were talking about the temperature, and not rebuilding an entire society. Coming from a demon, especially a demon like Venus, it was rather large, and seemingly without any conditions.

Skarlet notices Venus right away and is curious about who she might be. She listens until she has a chance to involve herself and leans over to nudge Lady Naoki. "Mother, could you introduce us please?" After asking, she moves over into a position so Venus can see her clearly and she smiles. "I don't think I've had the chance to meet you before, Miss. How do you do?" As Skarlet admires Venus' curves she moves her fingers along the stem of her glass of blood. This is a well dressed woman, where did she come from?

Naoki looks on quietly as events unfold and as Nina leaves. She’s carrying on her conversation with Venus, Skarlet approaches, but across the tent, someone stands and addresses her. It’s the woman, Shyv'Ahna, that Alden pointed out that first night.
“Skarlet, this is Venus, but give me a moment. Stay here, the both of you.”
Planting her hands on the table, Naoki pushes herself up and stands. She gestures first to Alden, with that same warning finger from before. ‘Stay here, don’t engage with her.’ Then, to where she knows Grandma is watching. ‘With me.’
With a few steps, swifter than one might think, Naoki standing across the table from Shyv'Ahna. Glancing to the left and right, Naoki sees a few faces she recognizes. Katiana, with the hunters, Coatl, Guardian of the Imilla Clan, and Roxanne, who still has her bow. But they’ve not involved themselves and aren’t the subject of the steely gaze Naoki fixes the purple woman with.
“There’s no need to shout.” Naoki’s tone is level but carries an edge to it. She’s dealt with enough bullshit so far without any from this side of the tent.
Raising that same admonishing finger, Naoki chastises her, “Alden did little more than check the girl’s overblown ego, and I told him off for it. You don’t even know what she said. Why do you stand now, and try to antagonize?” Gesturing with her palms up, Naoki prompts for a response, but doesn’t wait for one.
“That situation is over and dealt with. Sit down and eat.”

Age: Appears to be in her 80's
-----------------------------------------------------------
Appearance: An elderly woman with a wiry frame who most notably possesses unnatural height, standing at well over seven feet tall even when hunched over her cane. Her hair is grayish-white and normally done up in a bun and her eyes are also gray in color. Her skin is very pale and has an almost grayish hue to it. Her nails are long, black, and sharpened at the tip.
---------------------------------------------------------

Her hands are covered with fine gloves of black silk and she wears one ring on each, one having a purple stone set in it and the other a piece of onyx. Carrying an ornate cane of orellium, Grandma can use it to increase her magical channeling as well as assist in deflecting others' spells with it. The cane itself is black and covered in numerous ornate, but tiny runes. The cap on the cane is a purplish-colored gem. On her wrist is a silver bracelet with a ruby in it that Grandma uses for communication with others who own similar bracelets.
---------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------
Biography: While the details of Grandma's past are shrouded in mystery, since first meeting Naoki she has served essentially one role, that of advisor. While her titles have varied as Naoki moved up the social ladder of Isra, her continued support, and assistance she offered to Naoki have never wavered.
Even following the destruction of Isra, Grandma continues to follow and offer guidance to Lady Naoki as they attempt to rebuild from the wreckage.

At Naoki’s gesture, Grandma moved forward to shadow her. Her robe rustled over the grass as she glided across it. Her cane trailed lazily behind her, dragging across the ground as she slowed to a stop directly behind Naoki. Looming above Naoki, Grandma looks down on the horned woman. Her eyes drifted across those before her, Katiana, Coatl, Roxanne… Her gaze lingered just a touch longer on Coatl before she turned it to her primary focus, Shyv’Ahna. Planting her cane firmly in front of her, Grandma fixes Shyv’Ahna with a weary gaze. The spat between Alden and Nina had already caused Grandma enough interruption. And now this woman was trying to start something?

Venus twirled her fingers slightly in a pale imitation of a wave as Naoki disappeared. Venus' eyes dart to Skarlet and she smiles. Someone with manners, it seems. "My name is Venus, as the empress stated." She introduces herself, eyes darting to the red liquid in Skarlet's cup ever so briefly. A quick sniff, disguised by another nibble on her food, tells the demoness all she needs to know.
A vampire, although Venus couldn't tell if she was cursed or turned. She avoided wrinkling her nose in distaste, there was no guarantee that she was as low-bred as those two Shadowsteppers from before. Then again, most vampires that were bred with quality tended to avoid such social gatherings. It remained to be seen what she could expect from this woman.
Venus let the faintest trace of her aura out, and it immediately coalesced around Venus, enwrapping the demon in a veil of hazy pleasure and satisfaction. Venus' brain spiked, as she felt a soft buzz twinkle in her mind, thanks to her aura. "To answer your question, I am quite well. Truth be told, and don't tell Naoki this, the agitation and tension in this room is the most exhilarating thing I've seen in quite some time. I don't understand why conflict needs to be stifled, it is but another form of passion. In any case, if I heard Naoki correctly, your name is Skarlet?" She asked curiously, her voice an intoxicating mix of sweetness, dripping like honey, and cold steel, as if her voice was a blade cutting through the noise of the room.

Coatl of the Imilla
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 143
Appearance: Skin just a skosh darker than an old clay pot. The shade of his hat occludes black, sun-beaten eyes, wavy, matted hair, and just enough beard to protect his chin. His hands are coarse and leathery, with wiry tendons. His height isn't quite imposing, it's but enough to lend credence to a purposeful stride and posture.
-------
Equipment: An old duster, scarf, and cotton shirt and slacks. A thin brigandine with copper plates and a military-grade pitchfork.
A single candle, a reagent of now forbidden degrees of power.
-------
Skills and Abilities: On his home turf, Coatl could manifest formidable elemental magic. Here the magic is suppressed down to more subtle manipulations. However, the spirit of Cuaté, the "Witch", is still with him.
Coatl is, at his core, a simple farmhand. His experience working on ranches and plantations has earned him a strong physique and a way with animals. When he was a teenager, he also spent some time as a city guard and militiaman, giving him basic competence with a variety of weapons.
-------
Biography: The Imilla Clan were migrant farmers and laborers, selling themselves to wealthier kingdoms. They were a people bound by working shanties, and stories of an Eden from whence their ancestors came. As a youth, Coatl felt they were naive. They possessed the most basic of martial skills and required the aid of capricious spirits with weak magic to protect them.
His suspicions were half true, for when they encountered a malevolent kingdom, they were very nearly enslaved. However, his parent's commitment to peace earned him, and him in particular, the loyalty of an ancestral spirit that was far more dependable.
Using the power of this spirit, Coatl and a few other "chosen ones" helped bring prosperity and safety to their clan, ensuring that no one else would try to enslave them. The golden years of their people came to an abrupt end, however, when the flood waters came...

Coatl and his companions looked at each other's monstrosities. Based on the two ladies' reactions, it seemed like the sea urchin was the only valid edible option. Coatl turned to the bobbit worm's face. "Guess it's your lucky day."
The creature clicked its pincers menacingly, inches away from taking off his nose. He blinked at it stoically.
("Phallic?" The woman whispered to Coatl in bemused horror. What hell spawn reproductive organs had Shyv'Ahna born witness to?)
...
The slap, of course, had caught everyone off guard. Both Coatl and his guardian spirit were sensitive to the ripples of unease and tension which would propagate through out the camp after today. You can take the scorpion sting out of the body, but you can't take it out of the noggin'.
For the last few weeks, everyone had been on humbled footing. They were all survivors. They were all lost and hungry. But with the return of order, the circles would begin to align once again. The self was under the family, which was under the society which was under the world. What affects one will affect the other. Coatl bore no ill will to Alden or Naoki specifically, but he read the winds of change. The old ways would reassert themselves like vines with strong roots.
It might take a few months, but soon the Imilla and its associated clans would be seen as a lower caste in a harsh, property and power-based hierarchy. They would need to arm themselves, train, and earn the respect of their peers before that happened. Coatl sighed audibly, but said nothing specific to anyone.
"I'll take the creatures back to the tide pool. You guys eat." The young man seemed to have a gift with animals and was somehow able to keep the bobbit worm sedate as he took it off Coatl's hands.
Coatl sat down and gave Katianna and Shyv'Ahna disappointed smiles. He really wanted to believe this world would be different than the one they had left.
His neck tingled at Skarlet.
Is she a...
Yep.
Huh.
... Huh.
You're huh-ing too, Cuate?
She seems familiar as well...
