Vulpin strode into the feasting tent, immaculately tailored cloak billowing behind him. As always, he wore his mask, but he'd made sure to scrub off all the splatters of blood. His clothes were freshly cleaned as well, washed by some of his subordinates until the various stains and unpleasantries were removed. Unfortunately, he'd been forced to attend without Ms. Starling, as she simply couldn't stand being among crowds. He could hardly blame her. These people, starved as they were for any manner of entertainment, would point and gossip over anything. Attending an event like this at his side would almost certainly make people whisper, and he didn't want to do any undue damage to her reputation. Still, the event promised fine alcohol from the anchored ship's dwindling holds, and so he would have been remiss in not making an appearance. Sweeping through the entrance, he immediately spotted the captain standing among a small crowd of well-wishers and syncophants. Lady Naoki, he corrected himself, chuckling softly as he made his way towards the feast's host and sponsor. She'd stopped calling herself the captain, which led him to suspect that the worm-eaten hulk of the Depravity would never sail again. Picking up a glass of wine from a tray, he slid and twisted between feast-goers until he found himself standing before her. Once she turned away from her current conversation partner, he raised his glass to her before giving an exaggerated bow as though they were standing in a fine Isran ballroom. "Lady Naoki," he said, his voice as smooth as oiled glass. "A pleasure to see you again tonight. It's quite the marvelous feast you've put on. The skill of your hunters is second only to the prowess of your cooks. An impressive display, to be sure. A more critical man than I might question the choice of some of the garnishes, but who can fathom the mind of an artist?" He gestured vaguely with his glass, waving towards an unfortunate sailor who'd become quite ill after eating some questionable berries. Vulpin chuckled as the man was helped out of the tent to the infirmary and watched as attendants quickly removed the offending fruit from the table. "Ah, science," he said. "The inexorable push towards making the unknown known. I see that your gatherers have taken the opportunity to perform a bit of science here themselves. The knowledge of what fruits bear toxins is invaluable, and for that I must applaud our poor experimental subject. In his suffering, he has kept pain at bay for us all. A brave soul, if a bit trusting. Tell me, ma'am. I've heard rumors abounding that a winery is to be constructed. Have these glorious tales any credence, or are they but the ramblings of wishful imagination?" Naoki looks cooly at Vulpin as he approaches. “Vulpin. A pleasure,” she lies. She lets his comments about the feast fly completely unacknowledged, save for a slight twitching of her lip and an unamused expression. He knows what he’s saying, and he could have decided not to say it, but he did, and she’s unappreciative. “A winery?” She doesn’t quite laugh. “Yes, we’ll need a winery if we wish to keep Grandma placated, at the very least. But it would follow that the winery would come after the farms, the mill, and probably grape cultivation, which would also probably follow finding grapes, yes?” She fixes Vulpin with a questioning look. She’s unsure if the question was serious. He seems the sort to drink, but they’re dining in a tent. She’s living in a tent. He’s practicing what he calls medicine in a tent. The settlement consists entirely of tents, and he thinks a winery is among the list of priorities? She manages to pack almost all of that incredulity into a single look but caps it with a false smile. “We’ll eventually have a winery, yes, but not for a bit yet,” she assures him. “You’ll have to temper yourself until then.”

Roleplay posts: 17
Appearance: A bit on the short side, with a thin, lanky build. Round amber eyes, round face, dark brown hair cut to rest about mid-way down her neck. Tends to wear simple and well-fitting clothes: knee-high leather boots, riding breeches, a simple blouse, and a hooded cloak, all in earthy browns and tans.
Equipment: An enchanted compass worn on a strap around her neck, a travel bag containing several tubes for storing rolls of parchment, bottles of ink, wooden quills, and a spyglass.
Skills and Abilities: Dawn has a natural knack for directions, as well as night vision and a fine sense of hearing. She is skilled in navigation and cartography.
Biography: Dawn was named after the time of day she was born, and grew up among her people in the forests to the West. She enjoyed exploring the woods, and as time went on came to tagging along with guides as they lead merchants and travelers around the region. Soon she came to being a guide herself, travelling north and south among the forest to see as much as she could. However, even the wide breadth of her homeland couldn't satiate her wanderlust, and she soon made the uncommon decision to depart and explore the lands to the East. As a parting gift her father bestowed upon her an enchanted compass, an old family heirloom none had seen a use for before then. She wandered nearby lands for years after that, drawing up maps of everywhere she went.

Looking to the newcomers, Naoki sizes them up and quirks an ear to listen to what they have to say. They seem sincere enough, and hungry besides. “Ah- hah, someone who knows their manners.” Naoki nods approvingly. Too many people have been approaching her without introducing themselves as of late, and it’s refreshing. “I am Lady Naoki, and this is Port Argentium, first of New Isra’s settlements here in the new world — welcome. We landed here only a few days ago, and this feast is thanks to the efforts of our intrepid hunters. I’m not one to deny food to the hungry... But I would prefer that you not partake of the feast and immediately skip town to go cavorting off across the land.” She looks particularly to the one introduced only as ‘The Bard.’ She knows their proclivity toward cavorting. “I would ask — no, I would invite you both to join the settlement, throw your lot in with us of New Isra, and use your talents to benefit the group. It would then be your right to partake in the feast,” she explains, gesturing. Dawn opens her mouth to respond, pauses, and before she knows it Lady Naoki's attention is swept away by a tide of other topics. She takes the time to think the idea over, glancing the Bard a quick glance as she does. "If I may interrupt, Lady Naoki," she says when the conversation reaches a lull. "I'm afraid I've hit a bit of a, uh... conundrum? with your proposal. Your offer is gracious, and I would feel silly to deny it. However, there exists a slight problem in my line of employment. I am most experienced, and therefore most useful, in exploring and charting the wilds. As a matter of fact, given our current situation I would imagine that knowledge of the wilderness is something of a commodity?" She gulps before continuing. "My point would be that my, uh, cavorting across the land, as you say, is likely in all of our best interests. I'm not going to wander off and never come back; I'd be able to share my findings with you and your people regularly. Short expeditions would be best to start, simple surveys of the surrounding area before taking longer forays into the surrounding wilderness. The mountains to the south and east would probably mark natural stopping points; it's hard to judge without knowing the terrain but I can't imagine it would take more than a week's trip to visit either range. Finding a pass would take more time, but-" She cuts herself off, suddenly becoming painfully aware that she was rambling. She can feel her cheeks flush, and she looks away. "...I'm sure you get the picture. Does, uh, does that sound agreeable, your highness?"

The dreamy girl strode through the tent like a dash of blue paint. Behind her, flowed the sleeves of her robe-like blouse. Her eyes were glazed over, and occasionally she stopped to press her knuckles into the small of her back with a wince. For the last two days she’d helped with the feast preparations in the mess hall. Theodosia had told her about it. From vegetable peeling to splitting logs and carrying endless amounts of water, she’d been worked like a mule. Yet, the rewards were equally great.
For one, it was the food. Kitchen hands grazing on snacks was a socially accepted habit. Which is not to say that the cooks wouldn’t work you to the bone for it. More importantly, Nina had been able to plan out the grandest heist in the history of Port Argentium and, like the best of heists, it went completely unnoticed.
Three pepper corns here. Two cloves, there. A pinch of poppy seeds. Rare spices, left over from the Deparavity’s hold. Some, irreplaceable, for they would not grow in the mild climate of the New World.
Well…Not for everyone but the single person who had a glasshouse, that is.
Which is why, as Nina put down a platter of grilled boar meat slices, the last of her tasks for the day, she had the smile of a cat that had licked the pot of cream and gotten away with it. It faded only partially as she witnessed the poisoning and had to hunt for the rest of the suspicious berries.
“Lady…?” She bowed lightly to Naoki. Her gaze had slid past the monarch the first few times, then lit up with realization as people started to gather around her. So this was the ruler of Port Argentium! She had thought it was the man in the mask, at first. There was something about his demeanor that made the air around him freeze as if it tried to escape him.
Nina waited to be noticed. As she continued speaking, it would become obvious that her airy accent had come from nowhere near Old Isra. “The kitchen staff, I included, have had an initiative. I’d like your permission to announce it.”
She still wore the clothes she’d arrived with, worn threadbare in places, albeit less salt-encrusted, and the work hadn’t left her much time to dress up. Yet somehow, she radiated as much confidence as if she’d been wearing a province’s worth in thread-of-gold.
“We’ve taken it upon ourselves to store some of the scraps separately. The scraps that can be re-grown into vegetables, or fruit. They’re free for the taking. If anyone wanted to plant anything, it’s getting to the latest in the year they can do that.”
“There’s something else related to that which I’ve wanted to mention.” Nina added, with a small frown. “Some of the plants we have are…Impractical. Such as grain, there’s to my knowledge not enough of it to be worth planting for now. Or carrot tops, they’ll take two years to get to seed and then back into carrots. Fruit trees, don’t get me started on them.” Nina twirled her hand into a dismissive gesture. “What I mean is. If this was left up to your already overworked citizens, it is possible that some varieties would get lost. Hundreds, thousands of years of care, lost forever.” Nina pressed her fingers onto the table for emphasis. “Therefore, I’d like to argue that preserving and sharing them is in the public interest. I’d like for a culture collection to be established. I already know at least one person who’d love to work there, but they’d need a home, a parcel of land, and the acknowledgement that they are working in the public interest.” Nina didn’t fully understand Isran culture, but what she did know is that people were harsh to those they didn’t feel were pulling their weight. That acknowledgement would be valuable.
“Any surplus that might be produced from this shared resource would be given to the Mess Hall, of course. Or the hospital, especially for medicinal varieties.”
Nina’s eyes narrowed as she seemed to look at a point in the distance.
“Arguably, the new world offers a lot of opportunities in terms of plant life. There might be wild fruit trees with which domestic varieties could be crossed, or grafted. So eventually the culture collection could be turned into a research center, of sorts. It could be built with that expansion in mind. But that might be a discussion for another year.”
Nina smiled, the smile of someone who likes juggling with knives and suspects she may have just stabbed herself in the foot.
“I do hope you find this reasonable. It would be more difficult for me to do it regardless.”

She steps off to the side, waiting for a moment for the Bard to finish her business before digging into the feast. Hopefully it didn't take too long; her mouth was already watering from the savory smells of a well-cooked meal.

My grandmother said when I ran around I was a blur of autumn colors. My hair is quite a bit shorter now but the tone has remained. My eyes as well.
I suppose you could say I look sporty? I keep in shape not through rigorous exercise but through keeping in motion. I can’t help taking long walks to interesting places. So I’m quite thin. Beh, plucky in places. Not that I’d show you.
Curious about what I look like under this mantle? This tunic? Cherie, you better buy me a sweet drink and treat me like I’m a glass rose before you get the slightest peek.
Equipment: ///
My clothes? I like to keep it simple, but I had these tailor-made. Down to earth, yet eye-catching. Like the land of Gauldin itself.
Oh, these earrings? They were my grandmothers. I know they’re old-fashioned but they go well with my eyes, n’est pas?
Other than that? I keep a well-made diary and a pencil to write with. It’s bound in rough weathered leather, insides filled with random thoughts and drafts of poetry. When I have it right, I dogear the page.
Skills and Abilities: ///
I hold a pen like a commander leading a charge holds their sword. I write histories, loves, and poems to make a God shiver. I write the names of my friends and enemies alike into the very foundation of this earth so that they will not be forgotten. A flick of my wrist today shakes a nation tomorrow. And tomorrow and tomorrow.
Biography: ///
I lived as a poet within the capital of Gauldin. As you may imagine, the competition was fierce so I had to be able to peer deeper and deeper into mankind’s soul to make a decent coin. And with the world with such variety of lives as varied as Overworld… Well, you can imagine the task broke many. With this new world, just thinking of the poet’s task to capture every essence living in this land fills me with terror… And sublime excitement.

Mint scooted over as Naoki began city planning. Their shoulders touched when Mint hovered their hand over the figure. “I’d like to live there, right next to the park so I can take a walk first thing in the morning. The birds are going to be a nuisance, but after months or more on the sea I’m looking forward to it.”
“I like a woman who knows the importance of staying organized.” Mint tapped Naoki’s notebook, then raised their own, an edition tied in weathered skin. “Too bad I don’t have very many pages left-”
They snapped their fingers and nearly pounced on Naoki in excitement. “Paper! That is what I need! Gosh, is that- I guess it must be pretty hard to do, huh. If you have just like, an extra sheet or two I’d appreciate it.” To illustrate their point, Mint flipped through their book. Most pages only had one poem, with ample white space all around. The page Mint stopped at had the following one:
Egg,
but why?
“Hm, that certainly was-”, they mumbled, scratching their head, shuffling the book back to a pocket. “-a phase.”
“As for what you can do for my trade… Hm.” They think for a moment. “Just do as good a job as you can and I’ll make money pointing out where you failed.” They burst into a giggle. “Do a good enough job and I’m going to have to learn accounting or something.”

Katiana Graves

Roleplay posts: 109
Appearance: When you want to hide a tree, you hide it in a forest. Similarly, if you wanted to hide Katiana, you would put her in a crowd of humans. Brown hair, brown eyes, thin features, and an unremarkable height may not set her apart, but the way she manipulates her expressions and gallivants around certainly do. Those who know her are familiar with a particularly mischievous left-sided smirk, above which forms a dimple. Those who have yet to meet her will immediately know her for the way she bounces from one place to the next, holding her skirts in her hands.
____________________________________________________
Equipment: A recurve bow made of elm, a small wood-cutting ax, and a skinning knife complete Katiana's non-exhaustive equipment. Being an adventurer who often loses herself in the wilderness, she also favors flint and tinder, rope, medicines, a waterskin, sewing supplies, and food rations.
____________________________________________________
Skills and Abilities: Though not particularly concerned in the art of warfare, Katiana has been a hunter for as long as she could hold a bow, and over the years, she became proficient with it. One could assume that if she needed to point her arrow at a charging warrior rather than a boar, she would have the same chances of hitting it. Years of adventuring have also taught her skills in survival.
Though she has no skills in magic, nothing is stopping her from learning. Katiana's family has a history of mages, though none have been particularly gifted.

After getting her backside thoroughly cleaned and dressed after her unfortunate skid down a rocky slope, Katiana was smiling, confident, and almost good as new. She'd received much praise for bringing the dragon ostrich back to camp, though she had to give the unfortunate news that this wasn't exactly her catch. She'd chased it, sure, but Shyv'Ahna was ultimately the one to deliver the finishing blow. The thing was running circles around her, she retold back when she'd first arrived with it slung over her shoulder, face red from carrying the weight of the beast. It was clever and it mocked them with haughty laughter... an attitude that surely brought it to its demise! The hunter told her story with grand gestures and a booming voice, hands soaring through the air.
Now, it was time to partake of the feast. Katiana found herself loading a large leaf full of meats and cups full of the last bits of mead they would have for Gods knew how long. She ate as if there would be no tomorrow, and surely anyone that had taken the time to get to know her would have noticed the lass was a wee bit skinnier than she'd been when she first arrived on the boat.
She did offer Lady Naoki and all her business a glance now and again. What a busy woman she was! Katiana didn't envy the fuss, but she did wonder where her hunting companions were this night.

Skills and Abilities: Dr. Vulpin is known for his medical prowess: few can amputate a leg with such speed and enthusiasm. He's skilled with bonesaws, stitches, and scalpels and possesses a vast knowledge of ailments and medicines.
Biography: Nobody's quite sure where (or if) Dr. Vulpin actually studied medicine, but none can argue with the results. Most of his patients end up surviving, although they are frequently left with fewer limbs than they came in with. His medical skills have been invaluable on the long voyage, although his eccentricities and odd hobbies have made him rather unpopular among the crew and passengers.

Vulpin eyed the woman curiously, noting her distaste and resisting the urge to chuckle. Oh, what a wonderful position he'd found himself in. It was clear that she didn't like him, but he was irreplaceable. Not only was he the only trained surgeon on the island, but Grandma's little side ventures required a man of his unique talents. If not even the illustrious Lady Naoki could remove him from his position, then who was really at the top of the mountain? Certainly not this cat-eared woman, Empress of nothing but tents and sandcastles.
"Priorities," he said, nodding and raising his glass to her. "The stone chained to the ankles of all great leaders. I do not envy you, Lady Naoki, but I appreciate the work that you do. Farms and mills are all well and good, of course. A fine wine is of little consequence if there's no food to pair it with, eh? Temperance, I'm afraid, had never been one of my virtues, but perhaps it is time to learn. Necessity is the finest of tutors, after all. I look forward to all of our wine-making ventures here in Port Argentium and throughout this new, unknown continent."
He nodded, swirling the wine in the glass and looking at Naoki's ears. What strange ears they were. What did those cat ears hear, he wondered? Were they sharper than a human's? He wanted to test it, but he was certain that Naoki would have little patience for his scientific endeavors. If he could find a cat big enough, perhaps he'd be able to create one such as her, grafting the ears onto a test subject. Perhaps the hunting party would find a tiger or something similar.

Shyv'Ahna
Committed
Roleplay posts: 50
Appearance: Shyv'ahna, or Ahna for short, is an Av' nomad woman, standing at 180cm (6ft) tall. Though tall for a woman, she is in fact the average for most Av' women. She has light lavender skin, intersected by feint tattoos that glow while using magic, her eyes are golden, and her hair a very dark purple. Though mostly humanoid, she possesses a set of bowed legs, not unlike other Av’, and a pair of horns that curl around her ears.
She adorns herself with jewellery, specifically gold caps to her horns, silver and golden rings, two on the right side of her eyebrow, four in her right ear, and one through her septum.
Her body type is strong and toned, forged through years of patient training, fighting, and more travel than most would do in a single life time. It is covered, much like her face, in tattoos, jewelry and the occasional scar, from top to bottom, though most would never know considering her rather conservative wardrobe.
Equipment: Ahna uses medium armour. Leather, light scaled metal, and chainmail make up the most of her regular outfit, but all under a dark blue poncho, adorned with golden stitching and traditional Av'rae patterns that dance across its light blue trim.
Her travelling armour consists of a chain vest and a scaled skirt that reaches her knees around the back and sides, leaving the front open, starting at her belt and fanning out. Over the chain vest, she usually wears a leather corset to keep it in place.
In a trunk inside her vardo, however, sits a much more elegant set of armour, one she hadn’t worn in quite some time, her Elder Guard armour. Forged from the finest metals in dwarven-supervised forges, her Elder Guard armour has both the toughness valued by dwarves, but the mobility favoured by the Av’rae. It’s an elegant suit, tailored and forged to fit Ahna’s form, with its cuirass, graves, skirt, bracers, and boot plating made from the finest mithril, a light but extremely sturdy metal. The trim and under suit are made of a soft, breathable cotton, as is the cape that covers one shoulder.
The helmet of her Elder Guard Armour is ornate, to say the very least. It’s a closed design from back to front, but with openings to slide up around her horns, and a T-shaped visor for her stunning golden eyes to peer out of. The front of the opening is often covered by a thin chain mail for protection, as is her neck guard.
The armour’s colour matches her standard pallet, with the mithril painted mostly in a purple, with its trim painted a fine, reflective gold. The cotton of her armour, such as her undersuit and cape, are a fine dark purple with golden stitching that matches her regular shawl.
Her weapons are just as expertly forged, her primary weapon being a two handed pole weapon most would consider a fauchard, a long pole with an ornate, curved blade attached to the top, the blade on one side of the weapon’s top while a hook sat on the other, giving her the option to slash, stab, and pull as necessary. Though most Av’rae prefer to fight with two handed weapons, Shyv’Ahna also carries an ornate dagger with a similarly curved blade, just in case.
Finally, she is also an adept with a crossbow, though she prefers to fight with her melee prowess.
For transport, Shyv’Ahna has a vardo, a caravan of sorts, that she uses to transport her things as well as live inside with comfort. Being of the nomadic sort, Shyv’Ahna has no desire to a standard home, one that doesn’t move, so a Vardo, pulled by her beast of burden Bahsel, does the trick perfectly.
Bahsel, her beast of burden, is a creature rarely seen without an Av’ companion. Nobody can understand why or how, but the Av’rae are one of the few people to find these creatures’ native land and tame them for both work and protection. Bahsel could be described as a large, muscular porcupine, with thigh legs, built perfectly for work, a thick hide to protect from predators, a pair of large front teeth, perfect for chewing on its usual diet of roots and plants, and finally a back covered in quills that not only stop melee attackers, but can also be shot outwards like a series of javelins, that grow back quicker than most would expect.
Together, Ahna and Bahsel travel the lands, always ready for the next adventure.
Skills and Abilities: Ahna has spent years training and being trained in combat, and she has become an expert fighter with two handed pole weapons, daggers, and hand to hand combat, making her a fierce enemy to face, or one hell of a good sparring partner if you don’t mind a few bruises. She also carries a crossbow, but she mostly uses it for hunting. She’s a great shot, but her preference is found in melee.
Before the end times and the escape from the destroyed lands, Ahna was a strong, and sometimes scary mage. The Av’rae are some of the more magically-tuned folk in the old world, and Ahna was no exception, but after travelling away she can feel her powers weaken, as if stopped by something. Normally she could conjured lightning and electricity in the palm of her hand, powering her attacks while also zapping her enemies as needed, and on the rare occasion, under a cloudy sky and with great inner rage, she could even conjure storms, but no longer. Now, she can barely use her magic at all. Perhaps she just needs to find new ways to channel it…
Being a nomad, Ahna is an expert traveller and guide, able to traverse most terrain and survive in some of the more harsh environments, making her an exceptional pathfinder, if asked nicely and presented with enough gold.
Allegiances: The Av'rae people.

By Ahna's calculations, it had been a good half hour or so since the feast had started. She had tossed the idea of attending around, usually she'd tell you to shove it and leave her alone to her Vardo and her solitary lifestyle, but times were rapidly changing. She would likely be needed over the next few weeks or months, both as a skilled carpenter and lumberjack, the general wood working sort, but also as the proud owner of a big, strong beast of burden. The latter of which meant they had the means to pull supplies, large batches of lumber, and even plow pulling when the farms were finally set up. If she would be needed for the foreseeable future, she should probably put names to faces and make appearances here and there.
So, she decided to go, intentionally late. The beginning of these sorts of builder-folk feasts, or 'stay-puts' as Av'rae children called them, were usually filled with pomp and speeches from people who took any opportunity to flaunt their importance or statute in society. At least, in Ahna's experience. The few she had actually been privy to had disgusted her, even if the food was great.
The Av' pushes the flap of the tent open and peers inside before entering, clad in her brilliant purple shawl that covered her from head to knee, disguising her form underneath, under which were a pair of travellers pants and a pair of good boots. She slipped her hands from her shawl for just a moment to lower her hood, revealing the purple skin and horns that sat beneath, as well as the golden jewelry that adorned her face. Her eyebrow, septum, and ears each had several rings through them, and her horns were both capped with gold, all of which seemed to blend well with the faint tattoos that decorated her cheeks and forehead.
Her golden eyes scanned the room for a moment, a bit unsure of what to do with herself. Katiana had said she would save her a seat, she would likely need to start there. Now… where is that loudmouth…? If she couldn't find the human, any old seat would do, but for now she stands to the side, taking the gathering in for a few short moments. To the Av' nomad, stay-puts are a bizarre bunch…

"Bard." The Bard replied. "The Barge Bard, if you need to be more specific. I don't go by anything else." She awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck. "I don't exactly have a name." She continued. "The Bard is just what I go as, since hardly anybody would remember any name I could come up with." Naoki looks at The Bard for a long moment, but her expression is unreadable. After a moment she shrugs, “That’s a bit strange, but whatever, The Barge Bard it is. I’ll put you both on the list for... ‘need tents’. If you decide to choose a name later, let me know. The book would remember, at least,” she says, tapping it with her quill. “Glad to have you, regardless.” Naoki then gestures to the feasting tables, “In the meantime, dig in!”

Post by Lady Naoki on May 9, 2021 16:02:10 GMT -5
I’d like your permission to announce it.” She still wore the clothes she’d arrived with, worn threadbare in places, albeit less salt-encrusted, and the work hadn’t left her much time to dress up. Yet somehow, she radiated as much confidence as if she’d been wearing a province’s worth in thread-of-gold. “We’ve taken it upon ourselves to store some of the scraps separately. The scraps that can be re-grown into vegetables, or fruit. They’re free for the taking. If anyone wanted to plant anything, it’s getting to the latest in the year they can do that.” “There’s something else related to that which I’ve wanted to mention.” Nina added, with a small frown. Or the hospital, especially for medicinal varieties.” Nina’s eyes narrowed as she seemed to look at a point in the distance. “Arguably, the new world offers a lot of opportunities in terms of plant life. There might be wild fruit trees with which domestic varieties could be crossed, or grafted. So eventually the culture collection could be turned into a research center, of sorts. It could be built with that expansion in mind. But that might be a discussion for another year.” Nina smiled, the smile of someone who likes juggling with knives and suspects she may have just stabbed herself in the foot. “I do hope you find this reasonable. It would be more difficult for me to do it regardless.” Momentarily clear of petitioners, Naoki thinks that she found a moment to eat — but then someone new approaches. One of the folks who was working in the kitchen, she believes, and with an accent she can’t quite place. Listening carefully as they lay out their proposal, Naoki nods along as appropriate and hopes they don’t mind as she has a few bites in the meantime. “A horticulturalist, hm?” Naoki nods, approving. “That all sounds quite agreeable; good initiative. I was worried we didn’t have anyone aboard with that sort of skill-set.” She gestures to an empty chair, “Sit down, introduce yourself, tell me who it is who’d love to work there, and what sort of material and design requirements there’d be for such an establishment.” Pulling out her notebook again, Naoki flips to a new page. “Help yourself to some wine and what-have-you,” she adds, gesturing as she dips her quill for a new heading.
