Roleplay posts: 305
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

Ok, well, that confirms you guys are enemies...(The fact that the Jellyfish Queen didn't rush to the defense of the orca monster meant she had guessed right. It had been a rather hasty assumption in the spur of the moment.) She had the Queen's attention. Now she just needed to get Alden's an- -echolocation?Jun stared down the creature and sneered. That won't help. She quickly unbroached the top button of her gambeson, allowing something to crawl out. As she flicked her wrist back down, more ash fell into the sand. Like little missiles, the bugs darted towards the creature. They were long and black, and very much like cicadas from back home, only with a little mistborne isles flair. That was to say they were at least a half more terrifying. In particular, their screeches sounded like cicadas if cicadas had their own mythical banshee folklore. And Jun's were empowered by wind magic. Screeeeeeeeee! Screeeeeeee! Screeeeeeee! Screeeeeeeeeeee! Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Screeeeeeeeeeeeee! Screeeeeeee! Screeeeeeeeeeeee! Screeeeeeee! Echo-locate through that you son of a bitch.
As the air shook with the bone-shaking wails of purgatory, Jun waved her sword over at Alden. She didn't even have to hope that she had his attention. He would no doubt wonder what the hell was happening. Jun quickly used hand signals from her training as an Isran Sun Marshall, hoping Alden would recognize them. She wanted to signal for a two-pronged strike against the were-orca while it was distracted. This would likely be her final fully empowered attack. Her jellyfish pauldrons glowed an ominous azure in anticipation. She readied her sword and took a stance.

Alden is 6 even, with shoulder-length messy black hair, and several days worth of beard stubble. He is handsome, with a powerful jaw, mid-set cheekbones, and a perpetual grin that makes him seem younger than he really is. His bright green eyes, constantly sparkle with barely contained mirth. He has the lithe well-muscled body of a swordsman, and he moves with considerable grace and dexterity.
If one were to do a more thorough examination of Alden's eyes they may notice a further detail. Around the outside edge of his iris, there's an intricate series of minuscule grey runes.
Underneath his shirt, Alden's skin is a mass of scar tissue. Starting from just below his neckline, there is very little space that does not sport some relic of a past injury. A particularly observant person may also note that among these scars, some are a bright scarlet. These scarlet scars form an intricate series of runes hiding amidst the rest of the scars.
-------------------------------------------
Equipment: Alden's general loadout when he goes fighting consists of the following:
A twin set of enchanted shortswords. The simple straight blades are unnatural dark, absorbing rather than reflecting light. Giving the enchanted steel an appearance closer to cold iron. The guard has the Isran sun emblem emblazoned in a medallion shape just above the guard, which is wrapped in simple leather. The enchantments increase their sharpness and durability, as well as being able to ignite the blood of anything that he has pierced with either blade.
Numerous braces and hidden throwing knives all over his body. At one point, these were also enchanted but when the calamity struck he didn't have time to grab his original set. So these are all well-made but ultimately mundane weapons. Still, with his strength and skill, they can be quite deadly.
Unfortunately, at present, he is also missing his armour. His preferred armour is leather dyed in mottled black and greys, with strike plates sewn between layers for added protection. His old set was also enchanted for increased protection from physical and magical attacks.
-------------------------------------------
Skills and Abilities: Alden is, for lack of a better term, a weapon master. He has been trained to use almost any weapon you can think to name. Relentless daily training with each, with extraordinarily demanding expectations on performance and harsh incentives for failure giving a level of skill with most of them that make him formidable.
However, his preferred style involves twin short swords. While he is skilled with all of his weapons thanks to training, he discovered a natural talent with the blade. His level of skill when wielding his short swords is on another level entirely, nearly transcendent in his skill.
On top of that, he is a living magical enchantment. Carved into his body are a variety of runes that grant him numerous innate abilities. He is inhumanly strong, around three to four times stronger than a man in a similar state of physical fitness would be. This also applies to his endurance, speed, reflexes, and other physical traits. He also has regenerative abilities exceeding human normal, able to heal from even broken bones in a matter of days rather than weeks.
In addition, he is immune to most poisons and resistant to the rest. The runes etched into his eyes ensure he can see the same no matter the level of light and reveal magical auras to him. Runes along his back make him impossible to scry on directly and provide him a measure of resistance to magical attack. This, combined with training, also makes him immune to magical mental influence. Finally, runes on his feet dampen any sound he might make taking his already considerable stealth abilities to another level entirely.
Speaking of his training also included all of the skills one would think an Assassin should have. He knows how to mix poisons, move without being seen or making noise, scale walls, lie or disguise himself, pick locks, pick pockets, just for starters. He is also quite skilled at clerical work and he has some diplomacy ability after thirty years leading the Sun Marshals.
Beyond all of this, Alden also possesses an incredible amount of willpower. If Alden decides that he will do something, there is very little that can stop him from doing it. In fact, at present, the only thing that could deter him from a course of action is Captain Naoki. The former Empress is the only person he has any loyalty to and he often values her judgement on matters above his own.
-------------------------------------------
Biography: Alden was born to a small farming family in an out-of-the-way village. His parents named him Toan and until he was five his destiny was most likely to live and die on the same farm he was born. However, that all changed when Pride arrived.
The leader of a criminal group known as The Set, Pride offered his parents a sum of money that would make any poor farmer's heart stop. Enough money to change their lives forever and all he wanted was Alden, one of nearly a dozen children. A child that wasn't even old enough to help with chores around the farm yet. And the man as so nice, he wanted a ward that he could train to be a retainer how bad of a life could that be?
The answer to that question was basically Hell. Pride was a potent alchemist, enchanter, and scholar and he had but one goal in mind. To create a superior warrior. Alden was subjected to hellish daily training along with six other children. Forced to learn to fight with every weapon, against any foe, in any condition. His limbs were broken deliberately and he was forced to continue to fight and train in constant agony. And this was among the mildest of the ways he was trained.
The culmination of the training came when he was twelve. When he and the six other children were locked in a room and told that the only one who got to leave... was the only one to survive. Of course, surviving was hardly a reward.
Once Pride had only the strongest of the children left he proceeded to the next step of his plan. Alden's memories and identity were seared away as Pride carved runes into his flesh and his very soul. Transforming the young man into a living magical artifact and keeping him on a drug that suppressed all of his emotions.
From there Alden became the new Wrath of the set, a weapon meant only to slay those he was told to. That may have been all he would be but Pride made a miscalculation, Alden's runes helped him to build an immunity to the dosage meant to keep his emotions in check, a weakness made worse by Pride having let him keep his anger thinking it would make him a better weapon. Eventually, events conspired and Alden snapped when the only member of The Set to be kind to him, Sloth, was killed for threatening to expose Pride.
Alden, driven into a deeper rage than ever before killed Envy, Lust, Gluttony, and even disembowelled Pride. Greed manage to escape and Alden slaughtered everything in his path trying to catch the man. Eventually succeeding in his goal. Bereft of a target for his rage and the chase having left him in the middle of nowhere Alden finally collapsed the trauma and coming off of the dosage causing him to bury most of his memories.
He wound up in Isra where his talents and skill soon earned him the eye of the then, criminal Madam Naoki. She recruited him as one of her enforcers a role he continued as her power expanded and grew until she finally became Empress. His reward for his loyalty? Appointment to the head of The Sun Marshals her special police force, effectively making him her right-hand man.
During this time he also uncovered his own past and learned that Pride had survived, the man had made preparations for such an eventuality and his death only saw his soul moving to a phylactery as he became a lich.
Pride created a new Set, this time making each member just as he made Alden. Eventually, this culminated in Pride attacking Isra and his eventual, final defeat.
Decades have passed since that time and Alden, whose power kept him at his prime for years continued to serve Isra until the new calamity took him to The Island of Mists, his empress reduced to a captain and he now serving as her first mate.

Alden's target was the Queen, the Queen's target was Jun, Jun's target was the were-orca, the were-orce was doing nothing, Reno and the jellyfish were trying to stop Alden. They were intelligent creatures, their ability to mimic was impressive, as was their strategic thinking in trying to stay in his blindspots. But ultimately, they were animals. They copied skills they observed but that wasn't the same thing as hundreds of hours of training and true experience from hundreds of battles. Trying to stay in Alden's blindspots was clever but sight was only one sense and his instincts were honed to respond to all of them.
Reno reached for the warrior but he pivoted before the creature could touch him. He slipped a blade inside of the creature's reach and drove his leg into the creature at about shin level. His goal was to send Reno and the mimic he was attached to, into the path of the jellyfish queen's water bubble. While that wouldn't be good for the jellyfish, it would let him spot Jun's hand signs. Assuming the creatures didn't do anything to redirect his attention to killing their queen again, he'd instead move to assist his friend with her attack on the were-orca since his maneuver would have bought him time to shift focus.

Appearance: The look like a light Portuguese Man O War with a brain. It's brain cavity is clear allowing you to see inside it's body. The tentacles are long and lets them move around quickly and attack themselves to others of their species.
Equipment: They sometimes carry living weapons made out of other Synchs
Skills and Abilities: Using other members of their species they are able to shape their bodies to look like other species. Their mimicry is imperfect and normal intelligent species are able to tell the difference. This process involves synchphons analyzing their target and attaching themselves to each other to shape themselves. This process takes them about half an hour.
Magic helps this process and allows them to change colors to match the species or environment.
They can mimic abilities of other species when they shape shift. The abilities they copy are not as strong as the thing they copy, depending on the power level. They first transform into the user and see the ability in action for them to be able to replicate it.
Given that they are are colonial organisms their bodies can be cut into prices multiple times and are able to regenerate in a couple of days. If their brain is damaged however they die, and the body returns to their colony. Some parts are able to photosynthesize.
Usually they live underwater but are fast climbers and tunnelers because of their hardiness.

The queen lashed out violently with her water bubble. Her pull was sloshing the jellyfish inside her bubble, who kept lashing out as they followed her instruction. She switched targets, this time attacking the orca, who went to attack Alden. She figured she could get rid of two threats here.
As the terrestrial orca charged at Alden on all fours, it opened it's jaws to give a powerful crunch. The queen swung her water bubble, catching one of her broken mimics and snatching them. She gave a call, ordering it to snatch up Alden as she went for another swinging attack.
She was hoping to snatch him into her protective water and protect him from the orca. She hopped she could keep them both fighting each other, so that she can tire them out and finish them both off. Unlike Reno she had a human level of intelligence, terrifying for a creature her size.

Jun noticed the Queen's change in tactics, drawing up the little mimics in order to protect them. She found it amusing that the Queen wanted to do the same for Alden. It was a bit like watching a giant cat pick up her kittens by the scruff of the neck. It was unlikely that Alden would let himself be picked up, however. Assassins preferred mobility over defense.
Let's see if I can teach this thing how to fight with us as a team.
Jun wasn't aware that the Queen wanted to exhaust both threats, not that she would have cared either way. Jun herself had no intention of letting the fight draw out. She was pouring 110% of her strength into this final attack. Sparks flew and lightning crackled around her. As the last of her jelly familiars' magic poured into her body, time seemed to slow down.
She thought, briefly, Is this how Alden sees the world?
CRACK!
She flew towards the orca's backside as it charged towards Alden, with such force the air shrieked. A trail of grey dust dispersed behind her, the ashen remains of the last of her mana seeds. Her de-powered jellyfish familiars were flung off in random directions. She aimed to stab the were-orca right next to its spine, hopefully hitting a lung. If her sword landed, it'd also impart flesh-searing lightning into the creature's whole body.
She still didn't expect this attack to outright kill it.
"FINISH IT NOW!" She'd call to everyone, including the Jellyfish Queen.

The orca roared in pain as the attack damaged its stomach. It tried to evade the attack, but it was too slow. It growled in anger, looking at Jun and shooting a spurt of water to try and hit her eyes as a distraction. They closed their eyes and began to make clicking sounds, concentrating it's power.
The orca charged, deciding on attacking the humans directly. They coated themselves in jets of water to perform a blazing fast attack, as a last form of defiance. It moved with a speed that matched Alden.
At first it crashed into a tree and then a rock, making it seem like it was charging recklessly. But then it began bouncing around, using it's momentum to quickly shoot itself with the speed of an arrow. It's cost of water protected it from damage, and added to his weight.
Anyone hit by this once would probably loose the ability to stand. And the queen herself knew this. She turned away like a porcupine, using it's bubble as protection. She made a call, as if calling he humans to hide.

The battle was growing chaotic as Jun executed a powerful blow at the Orca's back. Somehow, the beast managed to turn in time to catch it in the belly. The creature jerked away and took a shot at Jun before it started to rampage across the battle field. During that sequence of events Alden was not idle.
The jellyfish were reaching for him again and they didn't have the good will for him to think their intentions had changed in any meaningful way. His patience was worn thin and only the fact the orca had made itself the more pressing threat saved the creature as it reached for him as he pivoted and switch direction, a simple act that was made infinitely more difficult due to thins like significant mass or being made of a bunch of stuck together jelly fish.
He cut ahead of the orca and leapt into the air, he planted a boot onto the trunk of the tree and scrambled up it. He hit the top just as the massive creature smashed into his perch. The top of the tree bowed forward as he launched himself downward driving sword point first down at the top of the rampaging Orca's skull.

Knees buckling, body wavering, Jun gazed down at her bloody sword, her fingers barely hanging on to the hilt. Her eyes could barely focus...
But she grinned. For a brief moment she could touch Alden's power.
But the fight wasn't over. And despite being out of power she would make herself useful to her last breath. She dove for the sand and strained heavily against her exhaustion. Shuffling on all fours to avoid the were-orca's deadly death throws, she made her way to Arianne Graves.
"Here. Your forearms are bigger and manlier than mine. Take this and keep it pointed up." She handed her her own bloody sword.
A cyan blue with a chromatic shine, it was clearly no ordinary sword... but in the mists it was basically an ordinary sword. A relic of a time when Jun could shatter mountainsides, the weapon still had a heroic aura that even a normal human could feel...
Jun instinctively put her arm on top of Arianne's back to protect her even though physically she was smaller than her.
Get'em Alden.

The orca stopped their reckless charge attack, stumbling as it came to a halt. It was exhausted and their target had not been eliminated. It was smart enough to know it was out matched here, but it could not flee at the moment. It was still covered in a protective bubble of water and could defend against the next attack, but it knew that they could hardly retaliate again like it just did. It decided to use it's last trick up it's sleeve.
The jelly fish seemed to be waiting for an attack that never came. They screeched, as if goading it to back off. The walking orca backed away from the group and slowly lied down. It laid motionless in the ground, eyes closed and emitting small chirps. It looked like it was asleep, but it was a bit obvious that it wasn't.
Suddenly a faint light shined from it's wounds, so faint it could have been mistaken from the reflections of the water. Slowly they began to recover, hoping their awe would give it just enough time to escape. The jelly fish queen however did not have patience to allow her enemy to recover, using her large bubble of water she raised it and sent it crashing down onto the orca. Before the orca could take damage again it bolted with blinding speed and dived back into the water.
Within the waves it glared at the group as if daring any of them to follow it inside, paying special notice to Alden. The jellyfish were not as good at swimming as it so they did not dare to go instead choosing to screech at the monster under the waves.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated

As the were-orca finally retreated into the waters, Jun raised herself up off of Arianne. She dusted the wet sand off her coat and stared pitiably at some of the jellyfish she had left strewn across the beach. Then she turned to the victorious Alden, and then the Queen. Then, she turned to the were-orca and deliberately shook her head, as if it warn it to not even thing about coming back.
If allowed a moment's respite by the once aggressive jellyfish people, she'd pick up some of the jellyfish familiars she had used in battle and start tossing them back into the water like frisbees. The were-orca likely wouldn't want to eat them since they had painful stingers on them. But thanks to her magic, they didn't sting Jun.
"Thanks guys." She smiled.
She'd help Arianne up and gesture to Alden for them all to leave the beach.
"So, where were we. Oh yah. You're alive?!" She gently punched Alden.
She'd ignore her pounding hangover for now.
