Jun of the Celadine

Roleplay posts: 305
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

Cracked, red, rusty stones hint at a land with a storied past. The beach is old, older than the scope of many faiths and legends. A thousand biospheres, each with incomprehensible lifespans of their own, have risen and fallen like short-lived mortal empires. It was here near the beginning, and it will be here at the end.
Folklorist claim ghosts tread these waters. But even spirits cannot survive the withering passage of time that these strange rocks have endured.(Optional mood music)

Appearance: The look like a light Portuguese Man O War with a brain. It's brain cavity is clear allowing you to see inside it's body. The tentacles are long and lets them move around quickly and attack themselves to others of their species.
Equipment: They sometimes carry living weapons made out of other Synchs
Skills and Abilities: Using other members of their species they are able to shape their bodies to look like other species. Their mimicry is imperfect and normal intelligent species are able to tell the difference. This process involves synchphons analyzing their target and attaching themselves to each other to shape themselves. This process takes them about half an hour.
Magic helps this process and allows them to change colors to match the species or environment.
They can mimic abilities of other species when they shape shift. The abilities they copy are not as strong as the thing they copy, depending on the power level. They first transform into the user and see the ability in action for them to be able to replicate it.
Given that they are are colonial organisms their bodies can be cut into prices multiple times and are able to regenerate in a couple of days. If their brain is damaged however they die, and the body returns to their colony. Some parts are able to photosynthesize.
Usually they live underwater but are fast climbers and tunnelers because of their hardiness.

Beneath the haunting waves of the sea something lurked underneath. A large mass of water moved with the speed of a sail, following the flow of the waves beneath it. It glowed finally with beautiful blues, greens and yellows, all the colors of the rainbow.
The large beast pulled a bubble of strange water with it, like a net dragging along. It caught stray creatures inside allowing the small Jellyfish inside of it to feast.
This was none other than the queen of the synchs. At the orders of her best in command they sailed for new lands to conquer. The Queen needed an area to rest and grow their colony.
The one in command was Reno, one of the synchs that drifted along the top of her water bubble. It searched for a new area, hoping that it was inhabited by someone weak enough for them to overwhelm. They had already lost a few synchs but their numbers had quickly regenerated.
They saw an untouched land and screeched for the queen to stop. As they did a large wave caused by the Queen's sheer power crashed onto the rocky shore. The first scouts left the Queen's bubble and set of to explore, with Reno as their leader.

Oddly enough, Reno's wasn't the only mass of jellyfish close by.
Jun's body was concealed by a flipped-over kayak, with only a bit of space underneath the concave edge from which she could peer through. It was too dark to see underneath the makeshift tent from a distance, the lapping of waves concealed the sound of her unfocused utterances.
"Avalux is going to kill me... This feels so good though. Squishy, squishy squishy."
Nearly every inch of her was covered by bulbous, translucent bells and digitate tendrils.
Working with the brainless creatures was easily her most foolish endeavor so far. She had been stung three times. All were mild and non-lethal, but excruciating, which was more or less how she liked it. In any case, the alcohol dulled the pain, of which it only took a few sips. At last, her glass liver was paying off!
Resonating her magic with the creatures was counter-intuitive. These creatures didn't think, so at first she thought overriding their will would be a simple matter. It certainly worked that way with barnacles. But when she tried it with them, she received her first stings. These creatures' instincts were so fundamental and primal that their reaction to any sort of foreign thought was to attack.
"Squishy, squishy, squishy."
So, against her better judgement, she tried a unique approach. She decided to not think, or to reduce her thoughts as much as possible. And it seemed to work wonders; her magic gradually flowed through their radial canals like they were part of her circulatory system.
Be the jellyfish. Be the jellyfish.

The jellyfish scouted the area. Their tentacles pulled them up, working as makeshift arms to help them climb trees.
The ones left behind began their expansion. They began to spread pieces of their body parts to terraform the land.
Like seeds they spread on the coast, slowly but surely forming messes of jellyfish flesh that covered the shore. They took the color of Gray's and light browns to match the sand and rocks.
The queen hid beneath the waves, waiting patiently for them to continue. She was nearly invisible under the water, the only indication she was there was the way the waves pushed past her and the small glowing bits in her crab shaped body.

Age: 53(?)
Appearance: The reference image is a commissioned piece and is accurate.
Alden is 6 even, with shoulder-length messy black hair, and several days worth of beard stubble. He is handsome, with a powerful jaw, mid-set cheekbones, and a perpetual grin that makes him seem younger than he really is. His bright green eyes, constantly sparkle with barely contained mirth. He has the lithe well-muscled body of a swordsman, and he moves with considerable grace and dexterity.
If one were to do a more thorough examination of Alden's eyes they may notice a further detail. Around the outside edge of his iris, there's an intricate series of minuscule grey runes.
Underneath his shirt, Alden's skin is a mass of scar tissue. Starting from just below his neckline, there is very little space that does not sport some relic of a past injury. A particularly observant person may also note that among these scars, some are a bright scarlet. These scarlet scars form an intricate series of runes hiding amidst the rest of the scars.
-------------------------------------------
Equipment: Alden's general loadout when he goes fighting consists of the following:
A twin set of enchanted shortswords. The simple straight blades are unnatural dark, absorbing rather than reflecting light. Giving the enchanted steel an appearance closer to cold iron. The guard has the Isran sun emblem emblazoned in a medallion shape just above the guard, which is wrapped in simple leather. The enchantments increase their sharpness and durability, as well as being able to ignite the blood of anything that he has pierced with either blade.
Numerous braces and hidden throwing knives all over his body. At one point, these were also enchanted but when the calamity struck he didn't have time to grab his original set. So these are all well-made but ultimately mundane weapons. Still, with his strength and skill, they can be quite deadly.
Unfortunately, at present, he is also missing his armour. His preferred armour is leather dyed in mottled black and greys, with strike plates sewn between layers for added protection. His old set was also enchanted for increased protection from physical and magical attacks.
-------------------------------------------
Skills and Abilities: Alden is, for lack of a better term, a weapon master. He has been trained to use almost any weapon you can think to name. Relentless daily training with each, with extraordinarily demanding expectations on performance and harsh incentives for failure giving a level of skill with most of them that make him formidable.
However, his preferred style involves twin short swords. While he is skilled with all of his weapons thanks to training, he discovered a natural talent with the blade. His level of skill when wielding his short swords is on another level entirely, nearly transcendent in his skill.
On top of that, he is a living magical enchantment. Carved into his body are a variety of runes that grant him numerous innate abilities. He is inhumanly strong, around three to four times stronger than a man in a similar state of physical fitness would be. This also applies to his endurance, speed, reflexes, and other physical traits. He also has regenerative abilities exceeding human normal, able to heal from even broken bones in a matter of days rather than weeks.
In addition, he is immune to most poisons and resistant to the rest. The runes etched into his eyes ensure he can see the same no matter the level of light and reveal magical auras to him. Runes along his back make him impossible to scry on directly and provide him a measure of resistance to magical attack. This, combined with training, also makes him immune to magical mental influence. Finally, runes on his feet dampen any sound he might make taking his already considerable stealth abilities to another level entirely.
Speaking of his training also included all of the skills one would think an Assassin should have. He knows how to mix poisons, move without being seen or making noise, scale walls, lie or disguise himself, pick locks, pick pockets, just for starters. He is also quite skilled at clerical work and he has some diplomacy ability after thirty years leading the Sun Marshals.
Beyond all of this, Alden also possesses an incredible amount of willpower. If Alden decides that he will do something, there is very little that can stop him from doing it. In fact, at present, the only thing that could deter him from a course of action is Captain Naoki. The former Empress is the only person he has any loyalty to and he often values her judgement on matters above his own.
-------------------------------------------
Biography: Alden was born to a small farming family in an out-of-the-way village. His parents named him Toan and until he was five his destiny was most likely to live and die on the same farm he was born. However, that all changed when Pride arrived.
The leader of a criminal group known as The Set, Pride offered his parents a sum of money that would make any poor farmer's heart stop. Enough money to change their lives forever and all he wanted was Alden, one of nearly a dozen children. A child that wasn't even old enough to help with chores around the farm yet. And the man as so nice, he wanted a ward that he could train to be a retainer how bad of a life could that be?
The answer to that question was basically Hell. Pride was a potent alchemist, enchanter, and scholar and he had but one goal in mind. To create a superior warrior. Alden was subjected to hellish daily training along with six other children. Forced to learn to fight with every weapon, against any foe, in any condition. His limbs were broken deliberately and he was forced to continue to fight and train in constant agony. And this was among the mildest of the ways he was trained.
The culmination of the training came when he was twelve. When he and the six other children were locked in a room and told that the only one who got to leave... was the only one to survive. Of course, surviving was hardly a reward.
Once Pride had only the strongest of the children left he proceeded to the next step of his plan. Alden's memories and identity were seared away as Pride carved runes into his flesh and his very soul. Transforming the young man into a living magical artifact and keeping him on a drug that suppressed all of his emotions.
From there Alden became the new Wrath of the set, a weapon meant only to slay those he was told to. That may have been all he would be but Pride made a miscalculation, Alden's runes helped him to build an immunity to the dosage meant to keep his emotions in check, a weakness made worse by Pride having let him keep his anger thinking it would make him a better weapon. Eventually, events conspired and Alden snapped when the only member of The Set to be kind to him, Sloth, was killed for threatening to expose Pride.
Alden, driven into a deeper rage than ever before killed Envy, Lust, Gluttony, and even disembowelled Pride. Greed manage to escape and Alden slaughtered everything in his path trying to catch the man. Eventually succeeding in his goal. Bereft of a target for his rage and the chase having left him in the middle of nowhere Alden finally collapsed the trauma and coming off of the dosage causing him to bury most of his memories.
He wound up in Isra where his talents and skill soon earned him the eye of the then, criminal Madam Naoki. She recruited him as one of her enforcers a role he continued as her power expanded and grew until she finally became Empress. His reward for his loyalty? Appointment to the head of The Sun Marshals her special police force, effectively making him her right-hand man.
During this time he also uncovered his own past and learned that Pride had survived, the man had made preparations for such an eventuality and his death only saw his soul moving to a phylactery as he became a lich.
Pride created a new Set, this time making each member just as he made Alden. Eventually, this culminated in Pride attacking Isra and his eventual, final defeat.
Decades have passed since that time and Alden, whose power kept him at his prime for years continued to serve Isra until the new calamity took him to The Island of Mists, his empress reduced to a captain and he now serving as her first mate.

After meeting Arianne Graves at the Mountain Lake, Alden continued his travels with his new companion making his way down from the mountain and onto new and unexplored land. He was sticking close to the coast, partly because it made finding water sources easier, partly because it helped with staying on track, and partly because salvage from the mists would occasionally wash up on shore that could prove useful. Today though, all he found were jellyfish. To most, they might have been hard to pick out as their camouflage kicked in but living creatures had a distinct aura to Alden's rune-scarred eyes. Which was to the blobs of jelly's benefit as he wasn't going to step on any of them by accident. His gaze swept over the beach and spotted the kayak out in the waters of the bay which pulsed strangely, but something about it also felt nostalgic. "Hrmmm." That something was occurring in this area was undeniable, the only question he had now was if it was something he should concern himself with. He'd come down from a nearby ridge where he'd set up camp to investigate but if it was just wildlife doing its own thing he wasn't going to interfere with it. Though, if the jellyfish were dangerous they might pose a problem to Port Argentium if they moved west so that was a potential concern.

The jellyfish screeched at each other, alerting each other of a foreign presence. Reno their leader heard their call. Using his single large arm he pulled himself up to see what was happening.
They saw the person, filled with Runes and looking powerful. They already hated these upright standing creatures. They where harder to kill and drive away than the others. Reno chirped for them to hide out, some going back into the sea and some hiding inside crevices and plants.
Reno and their scouts meanwhile hid close by, trying to hide themselves from their new opponent. All of them where unaware of what they where dealing with.
The jellyfish masses continued spreading even without the jellyfish there. It seemed to draw energy from the dirt and sand, as it kept creeping outwards, both into the sea and into the land. It's beautiful colors made the land more vibrant.

I am the jellyfish and the jellyfish is with me. I am the je- You jellybean friggin' jelling me. I mean you gotta be freaking kidding-
*Sting!*
Alden would hear an audible bump from within the kayak. Ow.
She recognized Reno's voice from last time.
Ok, I'm jelling the hell out of here.
Although a part of her did want to test her latest life form synergy on a live opponent, her last experience with the sapient jelly mimics had tempered her recklessness (somewhat). Not to mention that by teaching the fast little learners more techniques, she was potentially making them more dangerous to future settlers. She felt she had gotten even stronger since their last encounter, but she neither had the confidence nor genocidal aptitude to attempt to wipe the adorable scourge from the face of the isles. No, it was best to let them be.
As the kayak flipped over, what Alden would see would at first glance appear anything but nostalgic. A humanoid blob of dinner-plate sized, translucent pustules rose up out of the sand. But as the entity turned around to face its hiding spot, he'd see, dusted in sand, a feminine form, wearing a grey gambeson and some plant-based lamillar style armor on top. The woman(?) also radiated an azure aura which seeped into her suit of jelly fish armor as if the creatures were her own organs.
Some of the creatures slithered from the front of her body to her backside. The rest of the jellies spread themselves around to compensate, as if they had figured out their purpose.
The Weird Jelly Woman(?) Thing hadn't seen Alden yet. She would appear to move with a clumsy, inebriated, but oddly confident gait. Her balance wavered and corrected itself reflexively, her muscles loosening and tightening as if each limb acted on its own.

The Synchs screeched as they felt a second entity. The scouts that had been sent immediately retested into the water, with the largest one, Reno, ordering the rest to follow. They where jumping to the largest entity beneath the ocean.
They began trying to arm themselves, fusing together to create the humanoid shapes they saw. This process would take them a while, so Reno decided to face them head on. Screeching a battle cry, he and two of his trusted companions grabbed rocks with their disproportionately large tentacles and threw them at both Alden and Jun.
The Queen beneath the sea watched the two newcomers with her three eyes. One could tell she had intelligence beneath those gemstone like eyes. She pulled herself and her water bubble deeper into the water, making sure her eyes could not be seen as well as her protectors.

Things started to happen, there was no better way to describe it for Alden since he was unaware of any inciting incident. The kayak flipped over and a jellyfish person emerged from the water. A second later, there was a screeching noise and the jellyfish in the bay started to wiggle around forming masses. Before he could make heads or tails of that, another cry came from a singular source. A jellyfish was hurling rocks at both the jelly person and Alden, who simply moved to the side letting the rock pass harmlessly past him. The entire situation confused him and he cocked his head to the side.
"Hrmmmmm."
Something about the jelly-person caught his attention, that being that they were not a jelly-person at all, or at least, probably not. It seemed more that there was a person who had someone surrounded themselves in jellyfish, a choice he found suspect. Perhaps it hadn't been a choice though, perhaps the jellyfish had dragged them out of the kayak and imprisoned them? That was certainly possible.
"Can anyone here talk? I would like to know what is going on before I decide if I should do anything about this."
He said looking toward the rock-flinging jelly and the person-covered jelly. The latter's seeming lack of terror was the primary reason he'd not made up his mind about what to do. The person could have covered themselves in jellyfish on purpose after all and that could very well be what upset the one who'd tried to hit him with a rock.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated

As a rock flew towards Jelly Girl, she dodged. But she dodged in peculiar way. Her knee dropped and her whole body tipped sideways in ungainly fashion. Then, to correct her posture, she swung her whole body around so her other foot could find purchase in the sand. Another rock came towards her, and she seemingly stumbled sideways, and sideways again the other way. The rocks would continue to miss as she swayed towards Alden, changing directions erratically. Staring at her movements could easily make one dizzy, which... seemed to be the point.
When she was within earshot, she flailed her arms and-
*HIC!*
"We need to, we need to go! HIC! Ish not their fault! They're sapient but HIC! they are very hostile. Came from a dangerous world I think. They can mimi- mimi- mim-HIC! grrr... things. They have magic. We fight them off if we have to but just for self-defense- *HIC!*"
The Jelly Girl's voice would definitely be familiar, if a little muffled. And Alden wouldn't be the only one to feel it. Her pace would quicken, now zooming and scuttling towards him. The rocks kept whizzing by her unnaturally. Alden's runic eyes might start to notice sparks of lightning magic passing through the attached sea jelly's tendrils, correlated with each bizarre dodge.
Once Jelly GIrl was close enough, the sea jelly covering her face slowly slid down, a bit comically like the remains of a banana cream pie.
"... A- Alden, is that you?" Jun asked wide-eyed.
The jellyfish, still permeated with glowing azure capillaries of mana, fell into her arms with a *squish*.

The journey here had been long, but fruitful. After departing from the mountain lake, Arianne and Alden made their way to the beach, as she'd suggested. As they ambled along the shore, Arianne with her feet in the salt water to burn away any lingering infection, eventually found exactly what Arianne was hoping for.
A shipwreck.
Its belly spilled across the sharp rocks of the low tide, inviting the adventurers in. The sight was gristly, but little else was to be expected. "It must have been caught in the deluge from the other night," she said to Alden, recalling a strange scene of two titans battling far in the ocean near the edge of the mist, causing part of the isles to drown in massive waves. There were many dead within the boat, not all of them human, but every single one chewed up. Carefully, Arianne sorted through the boots of every corpse, never once feeling guilt. "You won't need it as badly as I do."
Eventually, she not only found a pair of boots, but a shirt, as well! And when she looked further, she even found a buckler. It needed some repairs, but the adventurer had fixed and created a number of wicker shields in the past. It would do.
And that lead them to their current situation. Arianne was just coming back from looking for food- eggs or somesuch- and greeted Alden instead with an entire jackelope! "Look at this! The poor thing was already injured when I found it. Wha- what are you looking a-"
One rock flew past them. Another went straight for her, which was deflected with the newly-repaired buckler strapped onto her arm. Peering over it, she witnessed a very bewildering sight. "I'll be honest, even as far and wide as I've traveled, this is very high up on the list of things that I find incredibly strange."
Jellyfish hurling rocks. Another, different jellyfish monster that was yelling at them from afar and waving her arms around, calling Alden's name. She raised a brow.
"A friend of yours?"

Roleplay posts: 56
Age: 20

The jellyfish screeched again. Suddenly a few humanoid shapes rose from the water. They looked human almost human. They writhed and shambled around, trying to get used to walking on land. They where holding strange long corals, that attached to their hands. They looked like some sort of sword.
Reno shrieked for them to attack. The shriek caused the other ones to screech as well, causing a cacophony of sound. They charged forward slowly, swinging their makeshift swords. The jellyfish hiding from the battle left their hiding spots and jumped into the water with the Queen.
Reno themselves made their attempt at a glare to the upright walking creatures. Using their large tentacle they launched themselves to the one that had glowing blue lines on them, not caring how strong they could be since they had backup.

Alden
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 280

"Is it?"
Alden said as Arianne commented on the strangeness of the situation. He didn't think so but the man lived such a strange life that his point of view was one that should not be trusted. He took everything that happened in with a look of mild curiosity more befitting of a person watching a street show, at least, until the person covered in jellyfish said his name and he finally got a good look at her face.
"Oh, things are starting to make sense now."
The man said brightly, his expression turned to one of excited delight as he started to dash toward his friend shouting out in excitement.
"Jun! You aren't dead this time!"
A statement that did shed some light onto why he hadn't found the jellyfish all that strange. Sometimes, you met the future ghost of your friend haunting one of her descendants from another timeline and other times you met them covered in jellyfish, these things happened. He was forced to pull up short when two mounds of clumsy jellyfish approximating the shape of a man appeared to block his way waving about long sticks of coral.
Of course, two creatures who could barely walk without stumbling charging at him was not anything he would consider a threat. He simply sidestepped one that took a swing at him and nudged one of its legs with the toe of his boot on the way past. He had a hard time imagining the jellyfish were very durable so he tried to keep the blow as light as possible just looking to topple the creature over, not crush one of the creatures into pulp.

"No! No I'm not dead this-"
The last part of his reaction gave Jun pause.
Do I wanna know?
A wave of jellies pogo-sticked their way out of the water towards her, courtesy of Reno. With a series of audible lightning sparks, Jun's limbs reacted and she leaped over the sand to dodge the attack. In the same motion she tossed her jellyfish into the air. Once again she stumbled and staggered her way through rocks and the occasional coral swipe.
"By the way *HIC* it's nice to meet you my name's Jun of the Celadine slash Usqueans." She pointed a finger at Arianne while frenetically continuing to dodge without fighting back. "Alden, the Usqueans are alive by the-"
One of the rocks came dangerously close to hitting her face-
*Slap!* Jun caught it at preternatural speed. She then ducked down, arms swinging limply, and the jellyfish she tossed up earlier landed on an empty patch of her gambeson on her back. Unceremoniously dropping the rock with one hand, she pointed the other at Alden, without making eye contact. "-way."
Jun was trying to keep her emotions and thoughts surface level to not interrupt her new ability. But for a brief second she hoped Alden would recognize where her inspiration for this technique had come from. It was obviously still in its prototypical stages, but so far Jelly Limbs was the closest thing she had to a speed blitz counter besides simply not being ambushed.
(Jun doubted Alden would be... jellous... of it though. It was comparable to him at best, if even that.)

Without some concern and quite a bit of curiosity, Arianne shuffled behind Alden as the jellyfish people attacked. She knew by now that the man was hardier than her wicker shield, and she elected to keep the shield in good shape if she could. This time, it didn't look as though he was interested in letting them smack him, and she watched as he moved out of the way and attempted to trip the creature. Arianne kept her saber and shield about her, but she was beginning to feel that these monsters weren't so... monstrous.
Her attention shifted over to the jellyfish-infected woman. Alden mentioned she wasn't dead this time, which had the adventurer raising a brow. What in the world was happening that they were so accustomed to... all of this?
"The Usqueans? Who's that?"
