At the heart of Neue Ritterheim is the Silver Serpent, an inn serving all manner of folk. Its exterior architecture is a blend of both Varan and Vessian cultures. Sitting upon a stone foundation the Silver Serpent has strong timber walls from the nearby woods. The steeply pitched roof resembles a Varan longship, while carved gables pay homage to Vessian craftsmanship. Smoke wafts from a chimney and the aroma of cooked meats emanates from its windows. A stout wooden door leads inside. Visitors are greeted first by the warmth of a roaring hearth. Timber beams and dark wooden panels give the cozy tavern the feel of a ship. A long, decorative tapestry hangs upon the rafters, encircling the entire room, appearing like a serpent. There are wooden tables and benches throughout, with beautiful tapestries of both Varan and Vessian design separating some for privacy. A central hearth provides food for the patrons, who gather around to eat and drink while they speak of tales. A bar is set upon the back wall, made of oak. The barkeeper, an old retired sailor named Sloan, serves mead, ale, and beer of Varan and Vessian origin. Shelves behind him contain different liquors and wines. The air is thick with the aroma of hearty fare, as the Silver Serpent's kitchen is known for its savory dishes. Patrons savor bowls of thick fish stew, platters of roasted game, and steaming loaves of bread. The flavors are a fusion of Varan and Vessian culinary traditions, with spices and herbs that leave a tantalizing lingering taste. Varan skalds and Vessian bards play instruments and sing, often telling stories of great heroes, legends, battles, and more. Welcome to the Silver Serpent, what'll ya have?

Appearance: He looks like a normal person, with flushed light skin, brown curly hair and brown eyes.
His clothes are all expensive and almost royal looking, but are clearly in states of disrepair. He wears a long sleeved tunic, thick brown work gloves and black pants.
Over all his clothes he wears has a dark blue coat that is reversible, with the other side being a dark orange color.
On his head he wears a dirty and broken pink gold rimmed platinum crown with jewels. It has dried blood and the jewels are loose, making them rattle. The crown has 3 spikes with a garnet, aquamarine and emerald.
The spike with the aquamarine broke off and was turned into a necklace.
Equipment: ‡
He has a bag of clothes and accessories that he carries around. All his accessories are expensive and top of the line. Inside he has fake glasses, an eye patch, a monocle, a white robe with sky blue crystals, a golden necklace and a fur coat made from the skin of a wolf.
He has no weapons for now, as he has been fleeing and has not had time to find anything to defend himself.
Skills and Abilities: ‡
He is a soulless husk, free of sin and virtue. He has no magic or any special spiritual connection. He is very susceptible to possession and magical powers, as he is almost considered nonliving because of his soulless status. He is almost unemotive and empathetic, and most of his facial expressions are out of reflexes but he can feel.
Despite his flaws he is very intelligent. He learns quickly and is very perceptive. He can make quick getaways and traps for his enemies, and is not above using underhanded tactics.
He has knowledge of botnay, hunting and trapping.

Everyone looked at him strangely, with something akin to awe and disgust. He didn't want to loose what he had, so he kept his act up and made sure he appeared normal on the outside.
Once he found out about his fate, he fled his kingdom on a raft on the day of his sacrifice as people chased him to sacrifice him. He arrived to the isles clinging desperately to life.
Now he is on the from the vengeful worshipers, who wish to punish him for fleeing his duties.

Eskil watched the tavern from a distance. He hadn't eaten in so long, he was so hungry. He held his necklace in hand, using it's jagged edge as a knife and cutting some vines. He tied some dried vines together, making a rope.
He needed food, but couldn't buy it. He didn't have anything he'd want to give away, all his belongings where too sentimental for him to give. He didn't want to lose what little he had. His royal looking coat was his only cover from the bugs and dirt. He had been wandering for so long its orange turned brownish.
His cracked crown tipped on his head, so he readjusted and focused on the task in hand. He saw the people eating and drinking. The food looked so good, but perhaps his senses where making it look better than it really was.
He carefully sneaked closer to the tavern, making sure not to be spotted. He took his crown off, his bag and his jacket and hid them under some bushes. Using the rope tied to a rock, he repeatedly hit a tree. He made a loud ruckus, managing to annoy some of some of the workers there.
Once he saw them enter the area he was in. Hiding behind the sparse trees, he moved behind them and rushed in to snatch their leftovers.

Ki'Gars are knitted from Buunvar hide, making them resistant to damage as well as fireproof.

Ralf is well-traveled, and a highly experienced combatant, explorer, and survivalist. His friend Hirhan created the Hirhanic Shield for him. He also looted a magical dagger from the corpse of Mariah.
Ralf has opted to build a bustling trade hub for his people and allies on the Mistbourne Isles called the Twin Cities, straddling the Ildesian Strait.

Eskil's antics were curious to watch from a distance. "Hm," Ralf thought to himself, observing the man. He had just left Esau and Pyre and was making his way to the Silver Serpent Canopy for a quick bite to eat. He paused upon seeing Eskil rush to grab the laborer's leftovers. Fortunately, as the settlement was still in its infancy, and since there was no form of currency yet, any of the Twins' workers could eat what they wanted. Of course, they were expected to pull their own weight and work. The current stockpile of food was a communal collection. Work and labor was the payment.
That being said, Eskil may not have met anyone in the Twins yet, so he may not have put in any work. That was fine - Ralf thought - all he had to do was ask.
As the workers retrieved replacements for their stolen leftovers, Ralf decided to follow and approach Eskil. He was wearing his traditional Varan armor and carrying his Hirhanic shield and ancestral sword, so he would have looked like an important noble or warrior. "Excuse me, friend, I am Ralf," he greeted the man.

Eskil froze, as he swallowed his last bite. The workers had returned and stormed over as they saw him eating their food." Hey! We hadn't even finished what's wrong with-"
They froze when they saw the look in his face. His face was unnatural. He looked so normal but there was something wrong. When they looked at his face they saw it.
His eyes.
Behind his brown eyes there was nothing, they where empty. Almost dead. His soulless expression stared through them, as he recoiled. He froze like a cornered rat.
"I-I" he breathed in and smiled." Hello, call me Eskil."
His smile was unnatural as well. It's like he didn't know how to do it properly, it didn't quite reach his eyes.

Ralf took a step back and instinctively reached for the hilt of his sword as well as preparing his shield. "Go on now," he ordered the workers, "I'll take care of this." The Varan, loyal as they were, hesitated at first but obeyed his orders. Like many of his kind, Ralf had seen many strange sights. He himself was a strange sight, being the White Wolf of Asgeir, although he had not morphed into that beast in quite some time.
He spoke calmly so Eskil could hear him and hopefully not be frightened. "Hello, Eskil." He squinted as he peered into his eyes. "I don't think I've seen you around here before. You look..." Ralf didn't know how to put it. "You look like something is on your mind. Would you like to talk about it? Perhaps I can help, or maybe I know someone who can." He immediately thought of the Guardians and the Knight-Brothers, but also of the Varan Seers and Soothsayers who might be around.
Whatever Eskil's case may be, Ralf was ready to help the lad. But if it was a fight he wanted, then the seasoned and grizzled Varan hero was more than ready to to test his mettle.

Eskil felt cornered. He fiddled with his necklace, the sharp shard jagged bringing him some comfort in this situation. He kept his plastic smile, unsure if it was working. He made sure to keep a deep stare, knowing it probably unnerved the man." I-I um I've been- I was looking around and decided to come here. I saw the food and decided to dig in."
He sounded quite honest, despite his lie not making much sense. It was hard to tell if he was actually lying or not. He tilted his head innocently. He knew this man was too strong for him to confront directly." You- I've been searching for a place to stay and, well this settlement looked nice." He said, spreading his arms out to emphasize his point.
"It's has a homely air that's for sure." He said." All I want is to have some stability." he made sure to not give too many details on what he meant by that. He may have looked weak, but he is much more clever than he looked.

Ralf eased up, but still maintained a defensive posture. "You're more than welcome to stay," he told the man. "We could use some help gathering materials and food, as well as building homes and storehouses." He then gestured towards the Silver Serpent Canopy. "And there's free meals for those who carry their own weight," he shrugged, "for now anyway." There was no monetary system yet. The small community simply stockpiled their resources together, and bartered labor for materials and food. In time, coins would be circulated.
"Tell you what," Ralf offered, "why don't we go and take a seat under the canopy. Get some meat in your belly. Then, we can talk." Ralf waited for Eskil to respond. If he was compliant, then Ralf would lead the man to an empty table.

The soulless being felt cornered by their words. Eskil felt he didn't have much of a choice. But he needed any advantage he could get, especially in his situation. Perhaps Ralf could be of use to him.
" Well, I think that sounds delightful." They said, keeping their eyes glued to Ralf. Not once did he break eye contact, despite how afraid he looked." I do have something of mine I left back there, let me get it."
He walked into the bushes and grabbed his things. He put on his royal looking coat and cracked pink gold crown. The jewels still glimmered despite the dirt that covered them.
"I hope I don't look too out of place." He said, walking to the canopy.

"Hm," Ralf thought, scratching his beard. "I think you would do better without such glamor," he commented, "it may attract unwanted attention." But then he held his hands up, "but you're free to wear such accommodations. I am the consul and no one would dare trouble you in my presence."
Whether or not Eskil decided to don his royal attire, Ralf led the man to the canopy and to an empty table.
"Sit, friend," he offered Eskil a chair. He then tossed up his hand to catch the old sailor's attention. "Bring us some venison, Saemus, and wine if you have any left." The old man nodded and returned to his makeshift bar to prepare the food and drinks. "Seamus is a good man. He'll take care of us.
"So," he continued. "Eskil. Let me formerly welcome you to the Twin Cities. I am acting consul at the moment. As you can see we are a small bunch and the settlement is in its infancy. However, in time, we will build a magnificent trading port. Raw materials will flow in, our industry will churn out fine goods, and we will share with the world our finest products. The income from this endeavor will fund our growth and our navy - which will protect our shipping lanes. If you are interested in helping us build this dream, we will graciously take you into our fold." He turned in the direction of where the Guardians were situated. "There," he pointed, "in the direction, a group of knights and sailors are beginning to construct a chapter house." He pointed in another direction, "and the Knight-Brothers are doing the same over there." He then looked at Eskil: "are you a hunter? A laborer? A learned man? An explorer, perhaps? Shipbuilder? Warrior? Tell me about yourself, Eskil, and what it is you hope to achieve."

His clothes are all expensive and almost royal looking, but are clearly in states of disrepair. He wears a long sleeved tunic, thick brown work gloves and black pants.
Over all his clothes he wears has a dark blue coat that is reversible, with the other side being a dark orange color.
On his head he wears a dirty and broken pink gold rimmed platinum crown with jewels. It has dried blood and the jewels are loose, making them rattle. The crown has 3 spikes with a garnet, aquamarine and emerald.
The spike with the aquamarine broke off and was turned into a necklace.

He has a bag of clothes and accessories that he carries around. All his accessories are expensive and top of the line. Inside he has fake glasses, an eye patch, a monocle, a white robe with sky blue crystals, a golden necklace and a fur coat made from the skin of a wolf.

Eskil's blood turned to ice."K-knights?" His eyes widened in terror. His breathing quickened, just barely noticable, as he shivered in fear.
He tried calming himself, and thought about what to say."I-I'm I'm." He tried to come up with anything that he could be useful in.
Taking a deep breath and calming himself he spoke with upmost clarity."I'm good at. . .hunting. Actually great at it, despite being a self taught man." he said, having calmed his nerves down.
"Back in my home I once hunted a pack of the most dangerous game. Might have been strong, but I managed well." He said, charmingly. His entire demeanor changed, sounding more sophisticated and peppy.
Looking more confident he crossed one leg over the other, leaning back casually on his chair." I like to think of myself as a scholar, I've learned quite a bit back home about the wilderness, common plants, animals and other such things."
"What about you? Other than being a consult, what do you do here apart from building your city? Any entertainment to be had?" He said with a friendly smile

"The most dangerous game?" Ralf asked curiously. Where he was from that meant man. But he shrugged off the thought of Eskil being a manhunter. "That's perfect!" he continued, "you can hunt the local forests for wild game. Keep for yourself what you need, but anything you don't need should go to the communal stockpile so it can be distributed to laborers and other workers who don't hunt."
Ralf listened to what else Eskil had to say. "Me? Oh, I mostly just oversee the layout, construction, and sustainability of my future city. I'll admit, it can be hard. Some people may not always pull their weight; others take more from the community stockpile than they should; some get greedy, some get jealous. I have to make sure none of that happens. I'm currently figuring out a sort of credit system: that is, I will judge how much work one is doing for the settlement and reward them with credit, which can be traded in for other resources from the stockpile. As this credit spreads throughout the community, the settlers can trade it to each other for their items.
"And this here," Ralf motioned around at the Silver Serpent, "is all the entertainment to be had right now." Looking around Eskil would see people drinking and having a good time, playing makeshift games, and having friendly competitions of sorts. "But give us time, the settlement will grow and there will be more to do."

"Oh!" Ralf proudly exclaimed, "this is the sword of my forefathers - an ancient weapon forged long ago. Legends say it was once imbued with incredible powers, and that only the strongest Varan can channel the energy." Little did Ralf know, he could channel the energy if he wanted to. Like many Varan, he only thought of the stories as legends, and so never made an effort to try and use the sword's power himself.

Eskil kept his cool. This was useful information if he ever needed it. He needed to start planning ahead, even now. Every person he can get access to will be useful.
He's glad that Ralf seems like the type to not ask too many questions unless they're important to him, seeing as he hasn't asked much apart from basic information. In fact, he seems like he is more focused on growing this small empire right now, and how Eskil can be of use. Perhaps he can use that, now that he's met them this early on in the building.
Ralf's already powerful looking, respected and everything. He's the perfect friend for him. And the perfect friend for the future. Especially with how weak and frail Eskil looked. He wouldn't suspect much from him right now.
He noted the strength of that sword as well. Maybe he'll have to steal it if the Guardians somehow become his friend. Eskil didn't know if they where in this area, but he didn't want to take any chances he could with dealing with them.
He thought about all of this as Ralf finished talking about said sword." Certainly sounds like it has some history. Gotta say, it's very intriguing. You must be awfully powerful, way over me! Knowledge is my only power sadly. . ." He remarked as he pulled out a small doll made of string and fiddled with it.

Ralf shrugged, "powerful? Sure. Though I've seen real power. Don't get me wrong, I can hold my own in a fight; I have the experience, the wisdom, and the instinct to survive whatever comes my way - or I like to think so." He laughed. "The Varan are known for their hardiness and resilience. We're not considered a great warrior race for nothing. And knowledge is a power in its own right," he offered to Eskil. "Brute strength matters not if you don't know how to use it. An individual with great intellect can overcome many challenges, while a brute's strengths is merely specialized. It is the same with armies. Strength in numbers can only do so much for you - it is skill, cunning, tactics, strategy, and logistics that win battles."
Ralf watched Eskil pull out the doll. "And what do you have there, friend?"
