Roleplay posts: 104
Age: 90 (appears early 20s)
Appearance: A thin half-elf, whose olive skin has a greenish tint. Slightly pointed ears. Noticeably wide grin. Dark brown eyes and straight black hair.
Her knuckles are calloused with little scars.
Equipment: A pitch black long coat-style gambeson and a kettle helmet. A longsword inscribed with runes. A pouch of medicinal herbs. A buckler with a long chain attached to it.
A clay flute. A pair of fuzzy pink earmuffs.
A thick black book filled with strange notes...
Skills and Abilities: Kua possesses remarkable gymnastic and martial arts abilities. Her kinesthetic intelligence is very high. She is also a skilled sword fighter and unconventional buckler wielder. Kua also possesses the potential for fire and holy magic. The mists keep it at bay, but the force of her emotions can occasionally overcome it.
She is quite skilled with a flute.
She struggles with complex abstract concepts and mathematics, and demonstrates no social fear. She has a heart condition that requires periodic herbal treatment.
Biography: Kua Redford was born with a disability similar to William's Syndrome. Her parents were overprotective and fearful Kua would never be able to live a normal life. However, Kua also possessed a fierce, independent drive. What started as basic self-defense lessons became an obsession with becoming a warrior so that she could survive on her own.
Kua was enabled by the King of her city-state of Whitehall, a man who saw great potential in her. He had her further trained so she could fulfill her wish of becoming a great paladin someday. Although there were many doubters and Kua's progress was slow, the king went to his deathbed still believing in her dream.
(It didn't hurt that the king was secretly her grandfather. But that is a very long story.)
Because Kua is a half-elf, she ages slowly. Bigots from her world believe her "condition" to be a result of her being a half-breed.

The secret to Kua's speed was in the finesse of her blade and her footwork. She'd been trained for decades, and faced real combat many times. And the fact that she loathed to kill meant that she often needed to be able to overpower an enemy without severely damaging them, or her defenses needed to be impregnable. Fighting alongside her kind nature was the equivalent of training with weights on, weights which could come off when there was no other choice...
In the end it made her stronger, not weaker.
The fact that both her weapons were significantly different from each other was also an advantage. Her longsword, when held with both hands, was fast and powerful. With one hand it lost some handling and speed (though it gained some reach), but the buckler added a blunt defender that was extremely fast and could still deal minor damage. Different sized weapons were less likely to get in each other's way, and they compensated for each other's weaknesses.
Kua was used to prolonged, toe-to-toe fights. A failed ambush against her was always going to be a tough battle.
---
Sensing the vampire's fear, Kua began making more feints and lunges, false charges to get Aleena to waste more energy. She'd punish over extensions with small slashes and stabs, chipping away at her resolve bit by bit, taking her apart like a surgeon.
She wasn't aware of how red her eyes were glowing, like faint embers dancing in the night.

Roleplay posts: 23
Age: She looks to be in her thirties
Appearance: Description: The vampire is a thin and tall figure with skin that resembled the color of a birch tree. Her eyes glow with a misty red under the dark hazel. Her hair is a very short cut as to avoid getting caught up on her hunts. A solid red cloth bandana covers up her mouth. Her mouth was more of a snake like set of fangs carrying a hefty paralyzing venom.
Her clothes were of a sturdy make with a more weathered look to them. Mostly it was cow leather, but there was a bit of clean cotton and jean like materials mixed in to provide a healthy practical set of clothes.
Race: Human Vampire
Height/Weight: She is slightly above average in height. However, due to a limited diet she is a lot more of a light weight.
Equipment: Weapons/Tools of the Trade: She tends to carry a hefty pair of machetes for both practical and defense uses. Other than that, a combat survival knife and other basic things are quite normal to find on her person or in her survival sack.
Skills and Abilities: Strengths: She's incredibly focused, and as a result has outlived most of her kin. She has a very keen attention around her making it hard to sneak up or get the better of her. Her previous life as an assassin has given her a round set of skills including stealth and a very good ability to read a room.
Weaknesses: She's not very good morally. She can be very selfish and doesn't enjoy to think about the needs of others. When she does she starts to realize the hypocrisy of what she says and she doesn't enjoy the realization.
Magic Abilities: She doesn't have any per say, but she's very adapt at noticing them.
Normal Skills: Hunting and general survival is something she's been forced to learn. She's also very good in quick hand to hand combat, often forcing her oponents unto unstable footing or ground to go for the killing blow.
Motivation: She wishes to simply survive, and due to this very single track mindset hasn't really drifted into what to do beyond that.
Biography: Backstory: The vampire worked as an assassin for a large group of them from before the collapse. It's really as simple as that.

She wasn't aware of how red her eyes were glowing, like faint embers dancing in the night. The vampire was not handling this new development well. For every blade attack she blocked, the buckler was there to reminder her of her inadequacy. It hit hard, bruising and nicking her as she fought. Every hit, of course, brought forth a grunt and hiss of pain as she failed to block it. Then the false attacks began, and the vampire's fear grew as her responses became less fluid and more frantic. The blade was coming too close, the added reach it had gained was threatening, slashes tearing cloth, and stabs being barely parried, in fact one jabbed her side and punctured skin letting an oozy black blood stain the cloth. It wasn't deep, but it stung, quite like that of a whip. She gasped and tried to get some better distance to attempt a counterattack. However, her steps were a lot less precise and her body looked like it was swaying slightly.

Seeing precisely how much damage she was inflicting, and reading her opponent's facial expressions, was harder than perceiving her opponent's footwork and broad strokes in the night. But she could hear the damage with every halted breath and hiss. Her opponent's attacks were extremely reactive. Kua realized that her foe, dangerous and fast though she was, couldn't see through her. All she saw was the steel, not the woman behind it.
She could use that to her advantage.
She came in low and fast, taking advantage of her sword's reach to launch a surprisingly high blow despite her low posture. Her buckler would come in with an upper cut to send the inevitable defensive machetes up and over. And then, Kua's body would rise up with a devastating push kick, planting her boot deep into Aleena's lower abdomen. If successful, the vampire's body would almost certainly involuntarily double over, to which Kua follow up with a buckler slam to the side of the head.
(She briefly thought about going for a groin strike instead of a push kick, but it was a coin flip whether or not it worked on a female opponent, not to mention it would have just plain rude. The King had generally taught her to fight honorably, though she recalled that his longstanding Drow assassin friend was rather fond of Pocket Sand and creative uses for tweezers. She never could embrace the whole combat pragmatist mindset, though it certainly had its place.)

The buckler hit her hands with a sharp crack, which caused her to give a pained cry. Then the boot hit her gut and she gave a stunned cough as the air was knocked out of her lungs. Her eyes were full of horror and she realized that she needed to move. Her body pressed slightly backwards, but the buckler cracked the side of her head all the same. The stunned look was there for a second, the only moment the vampire had made eye contact, and the emotions were just a mess of fear, horror, and for some reason a weird look that could be confused for betrayal. Then it was lights out, with a wet thud. She crumpled like a kicked pumpkin, black sticky blood gently oozing from her wounds and staining her ocean worn clothes.

Half an hour later...
"Pst. Psssst."
Kua did not want to wake up Jace.
...
She'd lead Travels Far a short distance away from their campsite and towards her prisoner, who was tied up against a tree. This was going to be a serious problem, and Kua needed advice.
"I'm not even sure if she's a vampire. What if she is just... part snake? Or part baboon? Or part... part hippopotamus?"
(She could only name so many fanged creatures.)
Kua knew she was being optimistic. She'd seen vampires before. They were on her list of creatures that almost always had hostile intentions. And the creature had indeed tried to ambush her. Showing mercy to creatures whose existence depended on essentially eating other people was unwise. However, benevolent parasites of the humanoid races were not unheard of. There were rumors of a heroic demon back in her world, who fed off the souls of fish and cattle to satiate their thirst for power. How much blood did a vampire need to survive, anyways?
Despite nearly being a victim to her, Kua still didn't feel hatred. A nullified opponent was a nullified opponent. Her mind naturally disconnected the threat from the subject once it was neutralized. It was only by sheer logic and experience that Kua knew not to take Aleena lightly. Frankly, most other warriors wouldn't even have allowed Aleena to live. Though she supposed, depending on Travels Far's council, the creatures' minutes would be numbered.

She was in a lot of pain, and starving...Her head turned round, eyes slowly widening as she realized she was up against the tree. Aleena then immediately looked at her gut, realizing with a small shiver and sigh of relief that she was not impaled. She slumped back and looked up with a pained wince before she froze. She had no idea what monstrous creature was standing next to the elf, but she figured whoever it was...would not be good news for her. However, maybe not death this close...it was odd. Aleena's face twisted into confusion, why was she not dead? Wouldn't that have made sense considering the circumstances?

Travels far looked upon the captive Reborn the blank eyeless stare of the Faceless like an artificed moon glaring down at the vampire. The lack of eyes, a mouth or anything other than the suggestion of a head were hardly a welcome sight to many at the best of times, let alone waking up after being smacked in the face.
"Vampire, these things I know walking and sleepless yet sleeping still. Snake I know yes but no scales mark the flesh, and the snake does not walk on legs, but crawls on it's gut. I do not know of the other things you say."
Travels Far stooped low to get a closer look at the prisioner. It's neck reaching like a mammoth's trunk.
"Is a snake your kin? Or do you live a deathless death?"

As he described what she wasn't, she looked confused, the riddles and rhyme weren't quite her strongpoint to follow. Then he spoke the last couple words, and those hit home. She opened her mouth to say something, her pale face looking nothing short of crushed as he neatly pinned down her condition, and then she shut it again looking down like a child scolded. It was like that for a few seconds as she thought more on her answer, then she quietly whispered, "I am not a liar, so I have no snakes for kin..." The vampire looked pained as she finally admitted to the actual question, "I don't have," she gave a pause as she tried to think of something, anything to argue the accusation levied against her. Then she gave a sigh and finished her sentence, "any defense against your observations...I wish...I wish I did."

Kua placed her hand on the hilt of her sword, a mournful look in her eyes.
It was exactly as she feared. Then killing her would probably be a kindness. Still, having gotten so used to mental checklists, Kua couldn't help wonder if perhaps there was some logical solution she wasn't seeing. Healer Mentha had taught her that a methodical way of thinking sometimes lead to solutions one could not find in the spur of the moment. She needed more clues before committing to the worst, though she also recalled Mentha teaching her which artery cuts would lead to the fastest bleed outs.
She released her hilt and gave Travel's Far a glance as if asking them if they could do it instead of her, if it came to it. Then she turned back to Aleena.
"Y-you were hunting me. Can you not survive any other way? Must you kill humans and human-like things in order to survive?"
Then a fleeting spark of hope occurred to her. It wasn't much, wasn't likely, but it was worth asking at least.
"Travels Far, Faceless do not have blood like Trueborn, right?"

Must you kill humans and human-like things in order to survive?" Then a fleeting spark of hope occurred to her. It wasn't much, wasn't likely, but it was worth asking at least. "Travel's Far, Faceless do not have blood like Trueborn, right?" Aleena looked at Kua, now for really the first actual time, and the vampire didn't look hopeful. She just glanced down at the floor again. She curled up a little bit, tied up as she was, "I don't have any excuses. I don't want to die," she paused trying not to show fear at the homunculus before she continued, "I'm afraid," she said with a voice that was quite small. She looked at the tree and at the rope, "I needed your blood. I didn't want to talk to you cause I was certain I would falter," she spoke very clearly, just quietly now, her voice almost cracking a little, "I did my best," her words seemed more like they were trying to convince herself of her success, and less so the two friends. She continued as she coughed up a little black sludgey blood, "...it wasn't like this before. I was able to get my fill in the wars...I was able to survive..."

Making sure that this wasn't an act, or maybe it just didn't care enough to look back at Kua. "We do not bleed like Trueborn, we do not bleed as life does at all in fact."
Travels Far, paused a moment as if in thought, without any facial features it was difficult to tell what was going on in it's head.
"You." The homunculus began, adressing the vampire. "How much of the ichor do you need?"

"You." The homunculus began, addressing the vampire. "How much of the ichor do you need?" She paused processing what ichor meant, and then nodding as in understanding of the question. She paused looking uncomfortable, "I always just ate when I had the opportunity...which was often before whatever happened...happened. I really don't know how much I'm supposed to have, I know I never ate more than a couple times a month. I didn't gorge myself like others," she said quietly with her face twisting in slight annoyance at past memories. The vampire seemed a little less fearful, just slightly, and now just more confused. The questions didn't make sense to her, or why they were asking them. Although she was not going to complain if care was to be given.

Kua Redford
Dedicated

"Did you drink all of the blood of a person?"
Kua was bad at math. But she'd spent enough time with the old healer to know that a person's body had an average of 10 pints of blood. The vampire would need 20 pints a month to survive if she consumed all of it.
She also remembered a silly question a child had asked Mentha once. How long would it take for someone to restore all their blood if they were to lose all of it. She nonchalantly replied that it would take several months at least.
She started counting on her fingers. Several embarrassing seconds passed by before Kua concluded that even with two people "donating" to her, she'd probably starve. Once again she turned to Travels Far.
"If she needs all the ichor of a person per meal, a trueborn cannot make enough ichor fast enough to feed her. I'm not sure but, I think you'd need many people. I do not know how many but, more than two. Much more. And, while I want to spare her, I am unwilling to slay others to keep her alive, nor can we allow her to kill other innocent people."
Once again, she put her hand on the hilt of her sword. Her face was stoic, but the slowly welling tears in her eyes refracted a bit of moonlight. Kua had grown accustomed to killing attackers if necessary. But this felt different.
"Travels Far, you are smarter than me. If you have any other ideas..."

The vampire looked pained and looked down at the ground. She didn't know what to say. There was something inside her that felt like she'd been wrong, and that wasn't something she often thought. After all, one needed confidence with difficult decisions, and she had made many. Aleena was not a beggar, to resort to coercing and pleading and toying with people's feelings was just like lying in her opinion. However, she did not want to die, even if, she reasoned, even if they did not seem like bad people to die with... She slowly looked at the both of them, then specifically to the elven figure, the tears were obvious to her observant eyes. She quirked her head painfully to the side, "Why are you crying? I'm not worth that..."

The stance of the Faceless loosened very slightly as it made a soft wheeze, perhaps a sigh or exhalation. It did not turn it's facsimile of a face towards it's companion though it's unseen gaze clearly had shifted towards her. "Trueborn Kua. Would you sacrifice flesh and blood to keep this one alive, despite it's attempt at hunting you? Like it, like us, you are a traveller and must have known that gnawing leech of hunger." Travels Far stood up, monstrously high yet humanly tired in how it stood with quiet uncertainty in it's potential actions.
"It may be that this life can be kept without death. But not without pain and...hmm...scars." The Faceless had always struggled emoting, but there was a clear internal struggle with this potential idea.
