Age: 90 (appears early 20s)
Appearance: A thin half-elf, whose olive skin has a greenish tint. Slightly pointed ears. Noticeably wide grin. Dark brown eyes and straight black hair.
Her knuckles are calloused with little scars.
Equipment: A pitch black long coat-style gambeson and a kettle helmet. A longsword inscribed with runes. A pouch of medicinal herbs. A buckler with a long chain attached to it.
A clay flute. A pair of fuzzy pink earmuffs.
A thick black book filled with strange notes...
Skills and Abilities: Kua possesses remarkable gymnastic and martial arts abilities. Her kinesthetic intelligence is very high. She is also a skilled sword fighter and unconventional buckler wielder. Kua also possesses the potential for fire and holy magic. The mists keep it at bay, but the force of her emotions can occasionally overcome it.
She is quite skilled with a flute.
She struggles with complex abstract concepts and mathematics, and demonstrates no social fear. She has a heart condition that requires periodic herbal treatment.
Biography: Kua Redford was born with a disability similar to William's Syndrome. Her parents were overprotective and fearful Kua would never be able to live a normal life. However, Kua also possessed a fierce, independent drive. What started as basic self-defense lessons became an obsession with becoming a warrior so that she could survive on her own.
Kua was enabled by the King of her city-state of Whitehall, a man who saw great potential in her. He had her further trained so she could fulfill her wish of becoming a great paladin someday. Although there were many doubters and Kua's progress was slow, the king went to his deathbed still believing in her dream.
(It didn't hurt that the king was secretly her grandfather. But that is a very long story.)
Because Kua is a half-elf, she ages slowly. Bigots from her world believe her "condition" to be a result of her being a half-breed.

An ancient forest further inland from the rivers. Though it appears to be quite safe and calm, occasional footprints and earthen trails hint at the presence of elusive megafauna lurking deeper within.

Travels Far didn't like Kua scouting on her own at night. But occasionally she insisted on doing so.
When Kua was in her early twenties, still a child by elven standards, she used to camp out on her own in the middle of the forest. At least, she liked to pretend she was on her own. The truth is, her parents often patrolled close by, or sent scouts to clear the forest of dangerous monsters. They did it to make sure she wouldn't try to befriend them. Still, a facade of freedom was better than no freedom at all.
Of course, that was decades ago. That version of Kua had yet to be trained by a warrior king and his motley crew of heroes.
Sitting up in a tree, next to something that sort of looked like an owl, Kua flipped through her notebook. There were many pages devoted to the recognition of hostile intention in others, so many that one could flip through them and watch the handwriting and diction mature over time. They were just barely legible under the moonlight.
She sighed. It must have been hard for both sides of her family. One sides wanted to protect her. The other wanted her to become great. Both sides had a point. Both were occasionally vindicated, and proven wrong. And in the end, it all culminated in her saving her world... and effectively being slain by it. Sometimes she wasn't sure who had the right of it in the end, or if history was going to somehow repeat itself with her, Jace, and the Faceless.
Hoo... Hoo...
"You said it," she whispered to the creature. The owl-thing probably didn't have hostile intentions. Even if it did, it probably couldn't penetrate her gambeson or kettle helm with its claws.

Age: She looks to be in her thirties
Appearance: Description: The vampire is a thin and tall figure with skin that resembled the color of a birch tree. Her eyes glow with a misty red under the dark hazel. Her hair is a very short cut as to avoid getting caught up on her hunts. A solid red cloth bandana covers up her mouth. Her mouth was more of a snake like set of fangs carrying a hefty paralyzing venom.
Her clothes were of a sturdy make with a more weathered look to them. Mostly it was cow leather, but there was a bit of clean cotton and jean like materials mixed in to provide a healthy practical set of clothes.
Race: Human Vampire
Height/Weight: She is slightly above average in height. However, due to a limited diet she is a lot more of a light weight.
Equipment: Weapons/Tools of the Trade: She tends to carry a hefty pair of machetes for both practical and defense uses. Other than that, a combat survival knife and other basic things are quite normal to find on her person or in her survival sack.
Skills and Abilities: Strengths: She's incredibly focused, and as a result has outlived most of her kin. She has a very keen attention around her making it hard to sneak up or get the better of her. Her previous life as an assassin has given her a round set of skills including stealth and a very good ability to read a room.
Weaknesses: She's not very good morally. She can be very selfish and doesn't enjoy to think about the needs of others. When she does she starts to realize the hypocrisy of what she says and she doesn't enjoy the realization.
Magic Abilities: She doesn't have any per say, but she's very adapt at noticing them.
Normal Skills: Hunting and general survival is something she's been forced to learn. She's also very good in quick hand to hand combat, often forcing her oponents unto unstable footing or ground to go for the killing blow.
Motivation: She wishes to simply survive, and due to this very single track mindset hasn't really drifted into what to do beyond that.
Biography: Backstory: The vampire worked as an assassin for a large group of them from before the collapse. It's really as simple as that.

The heavy trees cast large shadows allowing for another person to take refuge. A slim figure slowly moved from cover to cover, nary a sound did they make as they slipped through the soft pine floor. The soft black cloak of the figure melded with its surroundings as she dashed from cover to cover. Her shape mostly thin and lithe, almost scrawny as she kept to the natural cover the forest provided. They kept to the edges of the trees, keeping in the blind spot of the figure in the tree. Soon, they were right at the bottom, just waiting for the elven ranger to descend from their perch so they could pounce.

Kua's hearing wasn't much better than a normal human's, but what she lacked in superhuman acuity, she made up for in experience and attention to detail. It wasn't just decades of combat either. It was also her love of music and childhood fear of loud noises.
She didn't hear the creature approach. What she heard was the silence of a single scared cricket that decided to stop chirping. The cessation of the lone insect's song coincided with her like-owl friend suddenly flying up towards a higher branch.
Coincidences like that occasionally happened but...
Slowly, very slowly, Kua set her journal down and reached for her sword.

There was a pause as she noted the blade slowly being raised. Her heart began to beat a little faster as she pushed herself up against the bark. Her brain raced, had she been noticed? She'd been so quiet, that would have been impossible! She steadied her breathing, there would be no opportunity to panic. She just had to wait for her prey to leave the tree...

Nothing happened.
Kua steadied her heartbeat.
It wasn't normal fear she felt. It was bitter, annoyed, tainted by the insecurity of not knowing if this was the normal response or not. Was she to be braver? Was she a fool? Does anyone really know the proper way of being prey? Was she even prey? Coincidences do happen.
"I'm too old to be feeling like this." She whispered to herself.
Kua fully drew her sword, and then she sat for a moment and thought. Kua had gotten very good at mental checklists over the years as a side effect of her condition.
If there's a predator nearby, it doesn't want me to see it, so it'll be hiding.
She examined the ground beneath her, and took a mental note of every shadow, every blind spot. She drew a map of the safe areas and danger zones in her head. She plotted attack vectors which would give her the least number of half-seconds to react. The most obvious one was...
Kua dropped down. She effortless tumbled and rolled along the dirt, distributing the energy of the impact through her knees, thigh, and back and shoulder. She was up in a half second. And she turned, fluidly entering a left inside guard which would punish a direct attack on her.
And just like that, she had gone from being up in the tree to facing towards the tree's base.

The vampire heard the sword exit its sheath and gave a wince as she readied herself. There was going to be fight. She was kicking herself now, there was no reason for her quarry to be armed! Everyone was deprived right now. She pushed herself up against the tree careful to not make any noise. It wasn't that she didn't have any weapons, she had a couple machetes, but as soon as she unsheathed them it would make a dreadful noise, and then the game would be up...but...but this prey knew she was here, and probably knew where she was. She had to make a choice now. The vampire almost moved, and then winced stopping for a minute. Her head hurt, pounding a little, almost caused her to lose her grip of where exactly she was. It was clear to her now, she needed to feed. She'd die if she didn't have a good meal, she had to kill. Her chest rose slowly and fell as she began to work up the urge to attack.

If it was a large predator it would have attacked. It must be comparable to me.
Kua stood fast and raised her sword over her head. A high guard stance wasn't quite as deadly to an attacker (it was for slashing down, while her previous stance was for running an opponent through), but it did make her look much bigger, which might help scare the creature away.
Or maybe there is no predator and I am threatening a tree.
Kua snorted at her own thought.
She started to calm down. She wasn't dead yet, which mean she hadn't made any fatal errors. That was always a calming thought. Focus on your decision-making, then trust your decisions. Leave the rest to fate. If you're still alive, you haven't screwed up as badly as you could have. And although Kua wasn't the brightest warrior, her broken instinct for fear gave her a knack for calming down and making calculated decisions when it really mattered.
Those who teach a warrior how to think deserve just as much gratitude for their survival as those who teach them how to fight. Thankfully she did have a teacher who remembered the former.
If I ever make it back to my home world, I should bring Healer Mentha some flowers. And some new knives. She likes those.

A powerful piece in the grand game of the world she had come from, so why was there a pounding fear in her head? She did not know. The only thing her cursed body demanded, was food. She knew she had to rush her, and if the sword claimed its iron tongue to her flesh...she would die. One of them had to die, her thoughts rushed out, as she steeled herself. Then with a fairly elegant motion she slid from behind the tree, her hand sliding the machete from the sheath and moving to try and dodge the upcoming downward slice of her opponents blade. Her breath was ragged, and her heartbeat incredibly slow...it was all or nothing.

Kua felt exactly the thing she shouldn't feel when facing the deathly pale huntress: pity. It was automatic, seeing the emaciated young woman, a survivor of the floodwaters she had heard so much about. A normal person would feel a surge of adrenaline. Fight or flight. Something! This situation right here was precisely why no one expected Kua to live past 30 years old.
Luckily, thanks to the heroes who believed in her and saw fit to train her, those predictions were 70 years out of date.
Her rational mind activated. And it screamed a single word. Machete.
(Yah, people running at you with machetes were generally bad news.)
Kua went defensive. She retreated with a fencer's steps. Her sword dropped naturally with its weight, feigning a weakly committed downward slash, but in her mind Kua treated it as a stance change. As the machete came in, Kua would try to block it twice with as little energy as possible, so that on the third block she could strike hard and aim a counter to the assailant's wrists. She had to be efficient, since her biggest weakness at the moment was her utter lack of rage. Kua needed to buy time for her body to realize that she was going to die.
But who was this strange woman? And what did she really want?

And what did she really want? She gave a rash hefty breath steading her stances as she felt the clang of her blade against the much more heavy one. The vampire gave a wince as the reverberations went all the way up her wrist. Her other hand slid the secondary machete out and then found her double slash blocked. The vampire winced again as her wrists ached. She hissed sharp teeth being shown with a white glint as she went to dual slash at the blade in an attempt to lock it in place so it couldn't move so fluidly. No pause, and no talk was given, she did not speak, nor did she make eye contact, her bloodshot eyes dipping away before any attempt could even be made.

The harsh metallic clang sang through the air. Kua winced, not at the impact, but at the sound.
Loud noises could trigger a fight or flight response in her. She bared her teeth as her body finally got the message, poetically at the same time as her opponent. It burns.
She knew she could control the two blades for at least a second before succumbing to a counter attack or a sword lock. So taking advantage of the split second interlude created by their impact, Kua released her sword with her left hand and made for the attacker's wrist. She'd push with all might to the side to send them off balance while also pulling back her sword. Her feet would then dart away to try to get the rest of her back into a guard stance.
She could tell the attacker was desperate. Kua's life depended on her ability to control the battle. (Maybe both of theirs did.) She also needed to control herself, as tingling waves in her arms and legs tempted her towards bolder, more dangerous maneuvers. She was angry. She feared the fight. But she still didn't fear the woman herself, the signature mixed blessing of her condition.

But she still didn't fear the woman herself, the signature mixed blessing of her condition. The vampire felt herself moving forward, and then being furiously pushed back. Her wrists stung, her own smaller blades being held at a distance by the larger more powerful blade. She was indeed becoming more and desperate. The longer and larger blade was starting to keep her at a distance. It was horrifying, her eyes fully focused on the sharp steel. Did she have the ability to stop it from piercing her through? Her brain racked on how it would feel, to be impaled on it. It would hurt, it was going to hurt, but she couldn't quit. There was no reason in begging now, after all, even if empathy was shown...no one would die for her. Her thoughts validated her actions, at least as well as they could. Her machetes began to attempt very risky curved attacks as she dashed forward with a burst of worn out speed, her ragged breath starting to show early in the fight. Her brain demanded food, and her body agreed. There was nothing she could do to argue. Her face was taut, her eyes focused completely on the blade and ignoring everything else. She still hadn't paid her opponent any mind, just focusing on her blade work. Starting a conversation would make this worse, and she couldn't bear to do that.

Having bought herself another couple of seconds to react, Kua once again released a hand from her longsword...
The flurry of attacks, the desperation, the apparently need to kill her, it triggered something in Kua's psyche. It was fear, but the wrong kind to give her assailant the advantage. Instead it was fear of losing, fear of being invalidated. A kind person, pathologically so, could never be a warrior, and certainly not a hero. The fear Kua felt was that of her very right to exist being taken away. Losing to this woman, this creature, would prove the naysayers true and dishonor the king who believed in her...
Remembering all the stories and lectures about how good men died first in battle, her eyes flashed red, enough that Aleena might see it in the night.
Never! I will live!
Kua rapidly drew a buckler from her side and charged forward. Their weapons met. CLANG!! CLANG!!
It seemed the vampire wasn't the only one who could dual wield!

I will live!Kua rapidly drew a buckler from her side and charged forward. Their weapons met. CLANG!! CLANG!! It seemed the vampire wasn't the only one who could dual wield! There was a heavy wince as the heavier weapons tested and bent against her much lighter fair. She was now on the defensive and her moves were becoming less precise as she dealt off the fury of blows. How was this prey moving this fast? Why?! She looked harmless, like some little archeologist or something. Her mind was racing with thoughts as she stepped backwards, being pressed back at the fury of blows. She was afraid. There wasn't an easy way to turn this around, if she got too close she'd get stabbed, slashed, or that shield would knock the wind right out of her. Aleena winced again as her hands ached, her knuckles going white as she gripped her machetes and kept blocking, now barely just doing it in time. The vampire still refused to look at her, focusing still on the blade and shield, seemingly fixated on them as her eyes showed the horror and fear she felt.
