The world rocked back and forth as the sea took hold of its many pilgrims, trapped in a white labyrinth whose walls abated with the slightest touch, but never let prisoners loose. Even the sun did not show its face through the fog, leaving those within it to wonder how long they had been waiting… and how much longer they would have to.
Though the air was already chilled with droplets of mist, the wind whipping with saltwater and leaving a wet grit onto anything it touched just made it all that much more miserable. An end to dampness, coldness, and the deathly stillness of the sea did not seem close ahead. That this was the forever future was an easy thought to succumb to when nothing had changed in so long, driving weaker constitutions over the edge and off into the tumultuous dark, where they were lost. This would have been the fate of the rest had something new not decided to make itself known, quiet at first, but so strange was it through the utter silence of the fog that it demanded attention at once.
Clinking and clanking, whirring nearer and nearer, like the swing of a morning star. It grew louder and louder. And as soon as it started, all was quiet once more.
And then, there was light.
Fiery rays of morning brushed away the mist like a comforting hand to tears. It smashed through the maritime melancholy that had been all they had known for so long. And then- and then there was a line of greenery in the distance, and the shadow of mountains, and… and above it all, a gargantuan pair of hands👐, one holding a censer from which the mist poured, and the other splayed out, as though to say “Welcome.”
Then, just like that, they retreated into the pearly labyrinth, leaving the castaways to their own devices.

Welcome to The Mistborne Isles. This is a play-by-post roleplay with a medieval fantasy theme.
The story for all who come to The Isles is the same: a terrible cataclysm struck multiple worlds and timelines simultaneously. Worlds flooded, and some survivors escaped on ships into The Mist. After a voyage of indeterminate length, they arrived here to these Isles, seemingly the last viable bit of land and their last hope to survive.
Rather than a full sandbox where anyone is free to create any location and add it to the map, there exists a completed map of The Isle. Building the world out will be a collaborative effort. The idea is to avoid the chaos that’s associated with keeping track of what’s in a sandbox and set the stage for potential conflict over land and resources.
To get started, check out Creating Characters and then say hi in the Introductions forum! You have the option of either showing up at an existing settlement or landing in the wilderness and starting your own. If you would like to roll up with a group of outsiders on an unexplored portion of the island, float it by the staff in our discord so they can get the boards set up right for you.
Please note, there is an expectation of maturity in attitude, writing style, and treatment of other users, both in writing and interacting through our Discord. As such, we recommend that users be 17+.
