Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 292
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

By now Jun was absolutely livid. Though, that said, she probably shouldn't have expected to hit a moving target in the field after only one day of practice. Very quickly had her throat and face grown red hot, almost literally...
She was able to put those feelings aside for a second to rush to Uma's aid. She knelt down and placed the sword on the ground. Although the behemoth seemed to have retreated, she didn't dare sheathe it until she was certain it was a mile away. She placed her hands on Uma's body.
Come on you stupid mist, abate just this once, for goddamn 30 seconds...
Her healing magic trickled out of her finger tips like minuscule strands of thread. Maybe if Uma had lost a fight with a gerbil, her power would be sufficient. But at this rate it would take hours to mend her bones, if not days. And based on the way Uma was breathing, she didn't have that long.
Come on... please, let this work. Someone or something please help me make this work.
Fortunately, someone answered.
Actually, two parties answered. Jun was so focused she didn't realize a surly dwarf had just ended their beast problem. But she did see the owl fox kids come to her side along with their mum. With little chirps and squeals, they tried desperately to rouse Uma from her injuries. Jun could feel some of her power flow into the animals as they licked at her bare neck and hands, or any exposed spot anywhere they could infuse her bare flesh.
Come on...!
Two of the kits and the mother whimpered sadly. It just wasn't enough.
However, the third kit refused to give up. With angry little growls, it licked ferociously, scraping her neck with its teeth, almost biting her. Jun felt her magic resonate more strongly with this kit than the others. Its saliva glowed silvery. Tongue-shaped bioluminscence shimmered and faded and shimmered again with every lick. The kit was going to save the giant primate if it was the last thing it did!
Jun gasped when she thought she heard a bizarre pop within Uma's body.
"... Ok, ok, that's one internal organ mended! Not sure what to do about the other dozen but, it's a start!"
The kit squealed happily. Uma was still in bad shape, but at least she stood a chance of surviving the trip back to camp now when she could receive better treatment.

Asa's eyes followed by he beast as it left Uma badly hurt on the ground, he grunted loudly as he got up, his eyes went back to the beat as it was stricken by an arrow coming from bathe dwarf's bow.
His expression seemed empty as Jun's actions seemed to not work at first, holding his side he walked up to them in silence, and observed as the last kit didn't gave up.
He crouched having Uma between Jun and himself "If it's safe to move her we should bring her back to camp," he said, the hand that wasn't holding his spear clenched so hard that his nails left a cut on his skin, he couldn't even pulled a fake smile to assure the others.
If Jun say they could move Uma, he would pick her up gently and bring her back to camp quickly and as smooth as he could.

Jun looked up at Asadrack. She nodded. "Yah, but be careful."
She glanced at Asadrack's white-hot knuckles, but she didn't let her eyes linger. She didn't want to say anything else. But she understood how he felt.
She was feeling it too.

The beast went down with a nasty sounding bellow, the ground shaking some as the thing fell… hard. The massive thing bucked and twitched as it bled out and died on the forest floor, plenty of meat to go around for the people. Duen’s arrow had hit so hard that the shaft shattered and it was now unusable but for the fletching and the arrowhead. The pelt would be no good for anything unless it was thoroughly cleaned, as there was foliage growing on it, marking the animal as old.
Uma could breathe again thanks to the little fox-birb that could… She gasped in a good inhale of air but she was in so much pain that she couldn’t move. Her eyes closed and she went limp, but she was only unconscious, not dead. She would live thanks to the tlc of the little kit and Jun.

Trundling out of the woods a few moments later the little part would hear the dwarf's colorful language long before they saw his mane of red hair. Of course, they'd also hear the sounds of another large animal approaching from the same direction. So they shouldn't be surprised when the black bear pops out followed by the scowling ranger.
"Let me guess!"
The man says looking at the injured group. One of them seemed in good shape, another was obviously hurt, and the third looked to be on deaths door.
"The lot of you thought you were really woodsmen because ye grew up near a forest. Thought ye could handle a bit of scouting. But ye didn't bring a hunter or tracker with ye, since they might have had the good sense ta know what those rubbings on the tree mean."
The dwarf points at a place where some bark was been rubbed clean of and soiled by something.
"Clearly the bloody thing marking its musk all over. Ye entered the territory of bull like that when it was ready ta rut, small wonder ye bit off more en ye can chew."
While he talks he stomps over to the creature and inspects it before pulling out his knife, widening the wound and retrieving his arrowhead. He then strips the arrow of its fletching grumbling about the poor quality wood he'd had to use before he stomps over to the group.
"I've got some numbing ointment and bandages. I'll do what I can fer her and then we can get her loaded up on Basco. He can keep her safe and get her back to the rest of yer people. I'll talk ta yer bloody queen about what she owes me."
Because, as he often said, nothing came for free and if her settlement wanted a claim to the nearly two thousand pounds of meat he'd just brought down, plus the lives of at least one of her subjects, then she owed him. So she'd better believe she would be fast tracking the damn distillery.

Asadrack was kneeled beside Uma when the dwarf said he would care for women, apart from that none other words actually hit the man's ears as he blankly stared at the wounded woman for a second.
On the outside, Asa eyes seemed empty, on the inside doubt and anger filled the man, "Why am i so useless," he thought.
He stood up after a few seconds and walked up to a tree and leaned against it so Düen could help Uma without having him bothering, he looked at his hand that his own nails cutted and wiped the small amount of blood on his pants.
He did all that in silence as his mind was filled with what he considered yet another failure, most words that anyone would say to him would most likely not reach the man as he was inside of his own mind, for a second he looked at the sharp edges of his spear, swallowed his own saliva and than looked back at Uma to see what was happening.

Jun gave the peregrine fox kit a well deserved neck scratch. It was a hard lesson, but at least she had learned that her powers resonated with some animals more than others.
She picked up her chrome blue sword, a shadow of its former self too, and sheathed it. Then she walked over to where her bolas had landed and picked them up. It was easier to not be depressed about the rocks. They were just rocks.
The dwarf had the demeanor of a heel spur, but upon noticing the markings, she realized he was right. They should have fled the moment they saw the markings, or prepared a much better offensive.
"You're right." She said, defeated. "We're not ready for these damn woods. Uma almost died because of us."
She picked up the fox kit hero of the hour and slowly walked over to Asadrack, where she prompted it to lick his face. She smirked. A little trail of glowing saliva appeared on his neck. It wouldn't be much, perhaps a single bruise mended out of a dozen. But she hoped it helped cheer him up.

Düen rubs the ointment into Uma's wounds and binds her skin with bandages made from rough sewn fabric. There were very few essentials that the ranger didn't have an idea of how to make from scratch. As he works he listen to the words and tone of the two young ones complaining about getting their asses kicked.
"Aye, seems ta me that ye were some kind o' wizard a'fore all this." The dwarf says addressing Jun. "And I think yer problem is ya were too damn used to letting magic solve yer problems. Letting it fill in the gaps when ye otherwise would have failed. So perhaps ye need to start focusing on the practical rather than the flashy now that the mists have laid us all low."
Then his gaze turns to Asadrack. "And ye, what do ya think yer doing wandering off like that when their is work ta be done? Come here and make yerself useful, hold this in place while I tie the knot." The glare the old dwarf gives the young man would brook no argument and made it clear he should hop to it.
Once the bandage was finished he grunt. "Naw ye can both make yerselves useful and get the fool girl loaded up onto Basco's back." The black bear lets out a snort but lays down on the ground to make the loading easier. "He'll make fer a more comfortable ride than either of ye, so unless ye want me ta teach ya how ta make a stretcher hop to it."

The kit's lick suddenly pull Ass from his mind, he than noticed that Jun was near him and some of the pain went away, even if it was a small amount, he gave the animal a little pat on the head and thanked Jun.
Although he had walked away to free some space for the Dwarf he said nothing in response to his words, instead, he went to Uma and did as he was told.
When the moment came to lay Uma on the bear, Asa did so carefully with the help of Jun, although not much changed on Asa's expression, one of his eyes twitched as Uma was called a fool.
Asa walked over to the basket that had berries inside picked up and said in a defeated tone, "We should bring these back as well."
For now, Asa's usual smile was gone and he could only think of how Tana would be disappointed and wondered if he should keep going with his plan.

Jun carefully lowered the kit down to be reunited with its family. Then she watched Duen go to work.
"Giving up almost thirty years of your life isn't that easy." And with that, she had pretty much implied that she was a lot more than a "city guard" in the old world. She didn't know why, but something about the dwarf's gruff demeanor made her less inclined to want to hide her past. "I can do practical, but I swear to every spirit on this god-forsaken island I will put a ballista-sized hole in a monster's skull if it's the last thing I do."
She obliged and hoisted up Uma onto Basco's back along with Asadrack. As she did, she turned to Duen again.
"Thank you for avenging Uma. My name is Jun, of the Celadine Clan."
---
She smirked softly and offered to take the berries off of Asadrack's hands.

Once back at camp he explained what happened to Tana and after he left Uma in good hands he said to his love "I failed you again, i am sorry, I need some time to think, I'll be back before night."
After that Asa left camp in the direction of the beach he first met Tana in

Despite the gravity of what happened, Jun almost smirked when Duen called them dramatic.
Duen was talking to a woman whose idea of a therapy session was climbing an ice-caked mountain top to reach a cavern with a portal to heaven so she could have a conversation with her dead grandmother about self-love and acceptance. This was a woman who used to actually call out the name of her attacks in over-the-top heroic fashion. This was a woman who once contemplated undergoing horrific bodily torture just to better empathize with her assassin friend. (Thankfully a saner higher power had talked her out of that one.)
Duen... had no friggin' clue.
As Jun and Asa made it back to the camp, Jun muttered something that sounded like "I'll double down on that stupid carcass's face grr hrr drrr smhrrmrrnrrr."

The dwarf managed to get the Moss Auroch camouflaged enough and summed up enough magic to hide it for later retrieval. He'd be damned before he left this much good meat to rot. Under normal circumstances he would have hauled it back to camp with Basco's help. As it was he figured it would be his down payment to the Queen for all his future liquor purchases once she finished her distillery.
Once he is certain that nothing is going to rip into the corpse before he can come back for it he stomps towards the Usquen camp. His priority to get a sled out to the corpse first, which he would accomplish by being surely and telling people what to do like they should listen to him. Then he would track down Tana so they could have a chat.
