The creature that had yet to have a name for her species sniffed at the offering. Then she ate it. Once she was done, she flounced to the woman's feet, tail floating almost like a banner behind her. She made a sound and three kits came out of the woodwork, playfully pouncing their mother.
Uma was not paying attention, she was marking a tree with some torn cloth so they would be able to find this spot again. They would be able to make alcohol with those berries too, and perhaps the dwarf, Duen, would be friendlier if he had some swill to drink. She gathered as many berries as she could into the basket and then said, "I will dig up some of these later and take them to the village to plant. These are so good..." that was the first contentment one would hear from Uma.

As the kits appeared Asa smiled and said "I'm happy that I didn't threw my spear at it now." He picked a second berry and ate it "They really are," he said, agreeing with Uma.
"Do you want me to carry that ?" Asa asked Uma if and would grab the basket if she said "yes", if she said "no" he wouldn't
After a few moments he would ask if everyone was ready to keep going.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 305
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

Jun beamed at the little owl fox kits. Her whole perspective lit up. Maybe this place wasn't so bad after all.
"We should also tell the village that there are relatively friendly owl fox creatures here, and they have excellent noses. Perhaps we can start a relationship with these creatures which will help us survive here, as our ancestors once did with dogs and cats."
Jun ate a few of the berries, then she observed the kits for a bit. She was very, very glad she had succeeded in communicating with the creature. It was an immense relief to know she wasn't useless.
"Yah, let's keep going."

The next hour would be spent with Uma in relative silence. Every now and then, she would mark their path by tying a piece of cloth around a branch. The basket was handed off to Asa even if not right away and the forest was filled with the sounds of cicadas and other bugs, frogs and the like. They soon came upon a stream.
The sound of rustling could be heard and the kits as well as mama darted into the underbrush.
This ancient looking beast appears. What do you do?

Jun took a cue from the fox kits and held back behind a tree.
The creature's horns and build screamed territorial to her. She could attempt to communicate with this beast as well (it would make a hell of a ride), but a failed attempt here could leave her gored and trampled. She also knew she couldn't befriend every damn creature in the forest. The Usqueans couldn't survive on berries and friendship. (Well, they probably could but it would surely drive them mad.)
She carefully crouched low and pulled her longsword out of her sheath by two inches. Her gaze shifted to Asa and Uma, teeth slightly bared with concern and fear. Her eyes seemed to ask them what they should do. But by the position of her hands on her weapon, she was learning towards fighting.

Asadrack was silent for the rest of the walk, he seemed to be inside his own head as the group walked together, if it wasn't by the fox like creatures hiding he would most likely walk up to the creature unaware.
Just like Jun he hid behind a tree, observing the animal, he looked at their companions, he was seemed ready for a fight as he clutch the handle of his spear, he looked again at the animal trying to think of what could be the best way of killing it.

Unfortunately for Uma and Jun both, neither of them were quick enough. The horned creature lifted a hoof and scraped it across the ground, making ready to charge. It started to do so, turning toward Jun at the last second with head lowered!

Well... shit.
Jun sat up and drew her sword. She quickly took a step to put the tree between herself and the charging behemoth. She felt the earth shudder with every stomp.
I miss magic...
The best she could do on such short notice besides using the tree as cover was to position her sword. She took a close right stance, her fists clenched white near her lower abdomen, the sword pointed up at a 45 degree angle. Her feet were a shoulder length and a half apart, and she could feel her toes gripping the earth through her boots. She would try to move side to side to keep the tree between them.
In the meantime, maybe the sharp pointy end would make the beast reconsider its attack. Maybe the sword tip would catch the end of its noise or eyes. If all else failed, she'd try to run it through by the throat, though this would likely still cause her to take a massive impact that even her gambeson wouldn't absorb completely.
Maybe I should have brought a spear. ^^;

Asa saw the best hitting the tree and saw an opportunity as the animal didn't seem to notice him.
He quickly came out of hiding, his spear made possible for him to not get too close to the animal, he aimed just behind the animal's shoulder and thrusted his spear forward trying to get the blade as deep as he could and to remove it as quickly as he could as well.

The creature shook his head and then lowered his head a bit more, whirling out of reach of the spear. "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" bellowed the beast and started to charge Asa. He slams his side against the man and he is thrown a good, 6 feet.
Uma thrust her spear as well, but missed, and the animal scooted out of the way.

Jun saw red when Asadrack was hit.
Oh... no you didn't.
Electric green crackled around the bolas at her side. A hand flew off the hilt of her sword and to her belt. She grabbed the stones and started spinning them. They spun up quickly, almost supernaturally quickly. The air howled.
Without more preparation time, this was her only ranged attack. Even if it missed, she hoped she could at least be a decoy for Asadrack to recover.
She let loose, and tried to mentally guide the stones towards the side of the beast's head.

There was a terrible bellow from the cow-thing as it went into a wild frenzy. The creature reared and then came down upon Uma, who could do nothing but stare like a deer caught in headlights. The creature took off into the forest, crashing and booming on his way out.
Unfortunately for Uma, she got yeeted right into the ground and stomped upon. She was not in good shape at all. In fact, she was struggling to breathe.

"Fool children."
Düen grumbles as he knocks his arrow the grumpy rangers takes aim on the creature. It had only taken him a few moments to figure out just what was going on, if not explicitly how it had happened. Tom Foolery he was sure, he knew the girl who had almost gotten herself killed was lacking in common sense. He could only assume the flashy girl and the man in the dirt were the same. No understanding or respect for the natural world and the dangers it posed.
Slecting his target, aiming for where the beasts neck and shoulder met where there would doubtless be some kind of artery, Düen draws back his dwarven long bow. The flexible horn pulling back farther than most wooden bows can handle, his stout dwarven arms holding the tension easily. Making sure to lead his shot he lets out a long slow breath and releases the broad headed arrow, thankfully he'd had a few heads in his bag for when he made his own arrows, flying straight and true towards its target.
