Small footsteps echoed through the ship's narrow hallways as Bran Pollin ran for the captain's quarters. As the ship's boy, he was no stranger to this route. Up through hatches, down hallways, past storerooms, and up towards the captain's cabin. He didn't get lost anymore, but the trip seemed to get longer every time he made it. Why had the Imperial shipyards built this thing so big, anyways? He admitted that it was nice for saving all those people, but it was awfully inconvenient to get around. By the time he reached the grand doors of the captain's cabin, he was red-faced and puffing. Pausing at the door for a moment, he took some time to catch his breath and smooth out his hair. It wouldn't do to talk to the captain while looking all disheveled, oh no. Only the best for their captain. Besides, everyone had heard the rumors of ship's boys being tossed off the side for looking too scruffy.
Once he deemed himself sufficiently cleaned up, Bran tapped politely on the door. Three knocks, as always. Two would be too few and four would be too many. Five, as it was often said, was right out.
"Excuse me, Captain," he called. "A message for you from the sick bay. There's been...an incident on the deck."
He shuffled his feet nervously as he stared at the door, wondering if they'd open. Had he disturbed her? Surely not, delivering messages was his job...but their beloved captain was a fickle beast.

There’s a long pause and some muffled noise from beyond the door. The messenger is made to wait for about a minute before the door creaks open. There stands Naoki, dressed in a sweaterdress, as she often is. The eyepatch she’s taken to wearing covers her left eye, and she pulls a lock of hair aside to regard the small Bran.
“An incident, you say.” She considers. “What manner of incident? Need I be concerned?”

Bran looked up at the captain, doing his best to stand up straighter and look her in the eye. The latter was made easier by the fact that only one such eye was visible, making her gaze pierce into his soul only half as much as usual. The lad saluted awkwardly, standing there for just a moment too long as he wondered if he'd used the correct hand. Were you supposed to salute with the right or the left? Was it left for the lieutenant and right for the captain? The other way around? He couldn't remember, and the captain's stare made it difficult to figure out. After an uncomfortable pause, he lowered his left arm and folded his hands carefully behind his back to give his report.
"Looks to have been just an accident, ma'am," he said. "Sailor Second Class Bartholomew Perkins fell from the ropes and got caught in the rigging. His leg was broken real bad, Dr. Vulpin is amputating it right now. Mr. Perkins said something about being pushed, but so far everyone seems to think that he's just delusional. Dr. Vulpin asked that I notify you about the event, ma'am."
He hesitated for a moment, shuffling his feet. The doctor gave him the creeps, and he shuddered at the memory. The man was too cheerful when cutting off limbs, and those dolls of his...not to mention the mask. Who went around wearing a mask?
"If you don't mind me saying so, captain," he said, "I think there's something...strange about the doctor. He's a bit off in the head, you know? I mean no disrespect, of course. Nobody else can cut off a leg that quickly and still have the patient survive sometimes."

“Oooh, poor Perkins.” Naoki’s mouth shifts from one side of her face to the other and back again. It’s difficult to tell if she’s bothered by this or not, but she makes at least half a pretense that it does.
“Well, here, wait just a moment.” She gestures for him to stay, and ducks back inside. She returns a moment later with a half bottle of The Good Whiskey, which she jams a cork in and offers to Bran. “For Bartholomew: I hope he heals well.”
“But…” Trailing off, Naoki considers the second thing the boy said. Again, her mouth slides around. “Well, you must be a bit strange to be a doctor, see. To operate on someone, you need to suspend your empathy. You can’t empathize with the fellow you’re taking a hacksaw to, or you won’t do very good work. It takes a strange sort to be a doctor in the first place, and some people just aren’t cut out for it. …”
She pauses, then adds, “But then on top of that, yes, you’re not wrong. That Vulpin is a funny bird, alright. He’s the only surgeon on the ship, though, so be careful not to get caught up in the rigging.” Captain Naoki winks at the boy and nods. “Let me know if anything more comes of the matter, understood?”

Bran's eyes widened as the captain handed him the bottle, taking it gingerly and clutching it to his chest. This bottle was worth more than he'd made on this entire voyage, and he'd do well not to drop it. He nodded hurriedly at the captain's words, listening closely to what she had to say. The captain was not a woman to be ignored, after all. Perhaps there would be a test. He didn't know, but he certainly did not want to find out.
"I'll keep that in mind, ma'am," he said. "He'll appreciate this gift for sure, he will! Uh...if he survives, that is. As for the doctor...well, I suppose doctors are an odd bunch, but he seems to be stranger than most. I had a doctor in my home village, and he never giggled when cutting off anyone's leg. I suppose he's the ship's only surgeon, so we haven't much chance...gosh, does that mean he'll be the only surgeon when we land? That will really be something. I'll make sure to let you know if anything else happens!"
Feeling that he'd been dismissed, he saluted her with the wrong hand again, cradling the bottle safely in his right arm. After a moment's hesitation, he scurried out of the room, heading down to the sick bay. He had a job to do and a bottle to deliver, both of which he intended to do as quickly as possible. The sooner this very expensive bottle was out of his hands, the better.

A Wisp of Times Long Gone

Roleplay posts: 14
Appearance: He is of light blue appearance, and frothed with a glassy light that dances around his corporeal form. The fellow's arms are elongated, and larger in length then that of the average child. He has no legs, but instead a misty frothy foam swirls around his midriff keeping him afloat.
The Wisp's clothes are pieced together animal hide. He appears in a different suit of animal leather almost every time observed which implies that the creature is semi sentient. The Wisp also typically has a smooth white mask, seemingly carved from bone with two eyeholes. Why this is the case has yet to be deduced as the Wisp can see from all directions with ease.
Equipment: The physical manifestations held by the Wisp, are minimal, but are listed for viewer convenience:
One spear of unknown origin. It's made of something that has the resemblance of a sea tested dark oak, but when struck it would appear that it has a durability more comparable of that of a highly reinforced carbon steel.
The Wisp typically manifests carrying some sort of rucksack. It appears to be made of some form of animal hide, one that's particularly resistant to the mineral and plant-life build up associated with being near the Wisp. The Wisp gathers up a variety of objects, the following have been observed:
Sea Shells of Tropical Origins.
Any Scrap Metal that can be acquired.
Small Scraps of Cloth, often the skin of dead animals.
Smooth round objects of unidentified origin and make. It is also unknown how said objects are found as observation is blocked by heavy mist.
Skills and Abilities: The Wisp appears to be able to cut through reality, presumably through the use of a pocket dimension. Usage appears to be that of the staff that the Wisp carries, but the mists created anytime the Wisp moves to open the dimension obscure the opportunity.
Around him wafts a salty smell, mixed with a scent that is clearly peat moss. Within exactly one foot and eleven inches one will find small droplets of salt water manifesting on their person and clothing. Continued exposure to the affects of the Wisp will cause the formation of salt crystals and what can only be described as a variation of deep sea cave moss growing on the clothing and skin of the subject in question.
The Wisp appears to be able to create massive amounts of mist, observation reveals them to be similar to that found in the high seas.
The Wisp is above average in speed and strength, seemingly in comparison to the average High Elf. It is theorized that this is due to the fact that the Wisp does not require breathing as it has been observed to go into highly oxygen deprived places, including dangerous spelunking caves and lakes of water.
Biography: Creation a Biography of the creature is quite impossible as observation is the only means of study. It is unknown whether or not it can even speak.
Allegiances: It is unknown who the Wisp aligns itself with.

The moon danced upon the face of the ocean as the ship lay docked. Dancing lights glimmered on the surface. One such light danced particularly well, leaping above the highest coastal waves. It dived beneath the waves scooping up a small little crab to which it proceeded to pet and then pocket before diving again. Then it dived up again looking at the ship that hung ominously over the shores.
The little glowing wisp spun closer and closer to the great ship filled with unbridled curiosity. Flakes of salt and flecks of moss float down through the air as the wisp floats closer to the side of the wooden ship. The fellow moved with deft quickness, and reached out with a glowing bluish teal hand towards the clear entrance to the captain's cabin.
The captain got the pleasure of hearing the sound of something ramming into the glass window with a very audible thud. The specter woozily moved a few inches away from the invisible substance that blocked its entry to the wonderful warmth of the inner depths of the Depravity. It was nigh impossible to resist such tempting warm colors of reds and blues, and thusly the specter was entranced.
The creature reached a foggy hand out towards the glass placing the palm of its hand on it. The glass immediately fogged up with crystalline sediments and bits of peat moss began to cling to the wood. This didn't make much sense to the tiny fellow so he brought out a pointed seashell and began to lightly tap on one of the glass panes. The sound was rhythmic, and was completely in beat with the waves washing against the boat. It was also fairly loud, and depending on the nature of the captain in question, potentially quite annoying.
From the captain's perspective there was a small figure about a third the size of a halfling in height, but not nearly as wide. The little fellow had skin made of seal and dear draped around its floating frame. The little mask on its face was a smooth bone white, with two eyes carved in that glowed a distinct teal as they reflected the core of the creature's head shining brightly through. A spear fashioned from some form of wood and unidentifiable sharp bit was strapped to its back quite securely while a moss and salt encrusted rucksack hung from its side as it continued to tap at the window.

At the sound of rapping on her window, one of Naoki’s ears stands up, then the other. She sits up in bed and looks over. There’s something, someone there. Her hand goes immediately to the bell on her bedside table, but she doesn’t ring it yet. Rather, she adjusts her nightgown to keep decent and stands just next to the bed, regarding the figure hovering outside her window.
“Who’s this then, maybe a ghost?” It doesn’t look like any ghost she’s known but for the sake of the bit, she continues.
“I’m sorry but the waitlist to haunt me is quite long. You’ll need to make an appointment with my secretary in the morning. Regardless, please don’t break my window, cut that out, hm?” She waves it away.

If a word was understood it was not registered. However the feeling of indifference and low sarcasm were fully understood and stored. It seemed to contemplate all this for a moment, and then slowly started to pry at the glass with it's little hands wedging a sharp little stone under the wood once again perplexed at this transparent sustenance. The lass in front of him was not ignored, but simply could not be interacted with. The invisible barrier was quite apt on that point. The creature's eyes were confused at this, and it continued to toy about with the glass, after all the warm colors of the inside were quite intriguing and called, no demanded, investigation.

“Oi, I said cut that out!” Again, Naoki waves it away, but it isn’t stopping. So she rings the bell.
It’s a gentle ding-a-ling-ling sort of noise, clear and purposeful.
Backing away toward the door, she calls, “Grandma! There’s something at my window!” It’s not far, and once she’s there, she opens it, beckoning in someone from out in the hallway.

Her nails are long, black, and sharpened at the tip.
---------------------------------------------------------
Equipment: She wears a deep purple robe that has sleeves that extend far beyond her hands. Her hands are covered with fine gloves of black silk and she wears one ring on each, one having a purple stone set in it and the other a piece of onyx. Carrying an ornate cane of orellium, Grandma can use it to increase her magical channeling as well as assist in deflecting others' spells with it. The cane itself is black and covered in numerous ornate, but tiny runes. The cap on the cane is a purplish-colored gem. On her wrist is a silver bracelet with a ruby in it that Grandma uses for communication with others who own similar bracelets.
---------------------------------------------------------
Skills and Abilities: Skilled at knitting!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Biography: While the details of Grandma's past are shrouded in mystery, since first meeting Naoki she has served essentially one role, that of advisor. While her titles have varied as Naoki moved up the social ladder of Isra, her continued support, and assistance she offered to Naoki have never wavered.
Even following the destruction of Isra, Grandma continues to follow and offer guidance to Lady Naoki as they attempt to rebuild from the wreckage.

Entering through the door, Grandma's head swiveled back and forth before settling on Naoki.
“Something at your window you say? Well, I suppose I’d better have a look.”
Strolling over to the window, robes swishing as she moved, Grandma squinted out at the rather strange-looking creature. She wasn’t sure what it was exactly, but she could make some educated guesses. At least it wasn’t yet another starving man, woman, or child hanging onto a piece of driftwood. She was getting mighty tired of those folks turning up and pleading for help.
Raising her cane, the old woman tapped at one of the panes with it, gently to ensure she didn’t go breaking the glass. She waited to see what the creature’s reaction would be.

It couldn't tell, but it was enough to cause it to ponder. Well, maybe it would just have the new strange material, the lovely material, it was clear and quite nice. The Wisp's presence was causing peat moss to start and fully take root outside lifting up small little glowing stalks on the wood, while salt sediment collected on the glass. The little misty cloud around the small fellow neither expanding or shrinking as it toyed about with the glass. Grandma's introduction caused it to look up at her. Its two "eyes" looking at the old woman with a mixture of curiosity and interest. The other one was not...not one the Wisp wished to stay with, but this new person might prove interesting. Then she tapped on the pane from the outside, which caused the specter to swirl about in glee, however she didn't press hard enough, and the Wisp slouched and once again moved to try and pry the glass from it's pane.

Tilting her head to one side as the Wisp swirled about with excitement, Grandma offered it just a ghost of a smile before turning back to look at Naoki.
“Well, it doesn’t seem particularly harmful to me. Probably just wants in from the cold given it’s trying to pry a pane of glass out. I say might as well bring it aboard. At least it will prove a more interesting addition than most of our current guests.”
Letting out a dry chuckle at her final statement, she turned back to the window. Leaning forward slightly, the old crone undid the latch and slid a section of the window up. Lifting her cane once more, she tapped at the newly created opening with it. Raising one hand, she beckoned towards the Wisp with her index finger.
“Want in from the cold little fellow?”
Her smile was now plain to see and her tone warm as she invited the creature to come inside.

At least it will prove a more interesting addition than most of our current guests.” Letting out a dry chuckle at her final statement, she turned back to the window. Leaning forward slightly, the old crone undid the latch and slid a section of the window up. Lifting her cane once more, she tapped at the newly created opening with it. Raising one hand, she beckoned towards the Wisp with her index finger. “Want in from the cold little fellow?” Her smile was now plain to see and her tone warm as she invited the creature to come inside. The Wisp quirked his head to the side at the smile and stopped prying at the pane. It looked inside as she unlatched the window. It slowly peaked in curiously. It didn't have the transparent thing, but it was being given the option to come inside and look at the warm things. Very warm in color. The little specter floated inside and looked about keeping a wide berth of Naoki. The cloud that surrounded him outside followed him inside keeping the same radius and length. He drifted down to the ground and peat moss and salt began to lightly speckle the carpet as the creature looked up at Grandma with a curious quirk to his head. His hands then quickly began to dig around his bag, before he pulled out a small piece of charcoal. The little Wisp then drew a smile on his bone "mask" right under the two holes mimicking the older lady's behavior.

Naoki is unamused. It’s the middle of the damn night. She was asleep. They’re going to make landfall tomorrow — it’s going to be a big day, they’re going to finally get off the ship, start new on this new continent, and now this little thing is here in her damn cabin, dirtying her carpet.
Naoki huffs, still holding the door open. “I’m trying to sleep in here — actually sleep. See if you can’t convince your new friend to accompany you back to the wine store, perchance?”
