Tanneth looked at Red's eye when she mentioned that comparison of life-spans, she could be considered older. He chuckled to himself for a brief moment, knowing something she did not. It was hinted in his poem, but he was sure that he would tell her at some point.
He got up to help her get the meat ready to eat. He did what he could to help, sometimes finding it better to remove himself to give Red the space she needed. After it was complete Tanneth looked at Red, seeing how proud she was of her work. He chirped, "You did well, this should last us for a while."
He looked at the twilight sky and thought for a moment, "Given the climate it will likely get very cold soon. I suggest sleeping next to the firepit for warmth tonight. I'm going to for tonight. It be preferable that we stay as healthy as we can."
He brushed aside the ground and laid down next to the firepit, "That being said, I don't know how much sleep I'll get with those kind of stars." Tanneth pointed the stars beginning to break through the twilight. He stated, "They're beautiful and any good poet would find inspiration in these moments."

Appearance: Red hair, blue eyes and a big fluffy red tail, standing at 149 cm tall
Equipment: A ornate quiver with a red fox carved into it, a longbow and three small knives hiding behind the quiver
Skills and Abilities: An amazing shot with a bow and arrow, Red is also very nimble and fast and a really good climber, stealth
Biography: It was the dead of night, Red was sitting outside of a cave, inside more of her kind were sleeping, the dawn was coming and they would often hunt during the night, Red was still very young and knew nothing of the outside world
As she looked up to the sky she heard a weird noise coming from the trees ahead, she quickly went inside in a attempt to hide. She was curious, what could've been that noise ? Where did it came from ?
She dipped her head out the cave, looked around, her ears shifted as she was trying her best to hear any other noises, she heard a animal squeal, maybe a rabbit ?
She followed the sound to find a small rabbit stucked on a trap, almost dead, she circled the animal on all fours, sniffing it and the trap, she stopped, and tried messing with the trap, maybe she could open it and have a free rabbit for herself
The rabbit had stopped moving but Red wasn't even close to open the trap, that's when she heard the sound of a stick breaking, she turned her head and her eyes met with the eyes of a human, she froze for a second, he had a bow in one shoulder and an axe in the other.
She looked at him with her eyes wide open, that was her first time seeing a human, the man stepped forward, she stopped back
"It's okay, said the man, I'm not going to hurt you," said the man, stepping forward one more time
She was curious about the man but also cautious, the man slowly put his items on the ground and said "are you lost ?"
At first he didn't notice the tail or the ears, walking one more step forward and with the light slowly getting more brighter with a new day coming he realised she wasn't a human child but a vulx
"Are you..." Before he could complete his words Red took off running, the man stopped for a second, thought to himself, then quickly picked up his stuff and chased the girl
"Hey, wait, don't go that way, it's dangerous," he shouted as he ran after her
Red was running in a completely different direction than the cave she was outside of, she was fast, and the man couldn't keep up, but she fell as the same time as a clanking sound could been heard, with no clue to what just happened she looked ate her leg
She had been caught in a trap much similar to the one with the rabbit, the trap had metal bits that would quickly snap together much like a bear trap but it was smaller, although it didn't broke any of her bones, the trap still hurt a lot and she let out a sharp cry of pain
The man found her quickly, he approached her saying in a gentle voice "it's okay little one, i'm going to help you okay"
As he reached for the trap, Red scratched the man's arm, in response he tried to calm her down, and slowly reached for the trap again
"I can get you out of there, I'm going to help you" he said pressing on a small lever on the side of the trap and pulling it open
She quickly tried to get away but couldn't , the man slowly approached her speaking in a calm voice "if you let me carry you, I'll bring you to my cabin and I will heal you." He patted her on the head and them took her with him, once on the cabin he took a look at her ankle "you won be able to move for a while, but i'll take care of you." He pointed at himself "Anderson." He did that a couple of times then pointed at her but she didn't knew how to talk "well, i'll just call you Red then"
For the next few weeks he would treat her, feed her and make sure she was worm. Her, in the other hand seemed to mimick him and was learning fast but still wasn't able to talk.
Everything stayed the same for a while, there wasn't much for her to do but Anderson tried his best to teach her words and even showed her his books but with no success, he told her stories and shared his experiences, but after some time she was healed and he decided to take her back
Anderson was visibly upset about that, it was he's dream to have a family but wasn't able to have kids but the forest was her home. He took her to the spot where she found her, this time she came walking on both feet
"As promised, now that you're better I brought you home," he said
"N n n no" she said
"You can speak ?" He's eyes shot open
She pointed at herself and continued "o o o out a sider."

Red watched Tanneth lay down and heard his words about the stars "Don't get any wrong ideas from what i'm about to do ok, Tanneth," she said, laying down really close to the poet
Red was close enough that Tanneth would be able to feel her warmth, her tail came from behind her back and it would touch Tanneth's leg a bit, the fur on her tail was soft and clearly well kept
"Father and I used to watch the stars like this, I hope you don't mind."

Tanneth was flushed at first but regained his composure. He commented, "To be honest, I would be surprised if you had those ideas with someone you barely spent a day with."
It was comforting having someone by his side this way. The soft fur of her tail, a strong reminder that he wasn't alone. It was a good reminder that despite all the insanity that transpired, his lack of memories of how he arrived here, he at least met another. Perhaps that was why he wasn't so desperate, why he could keep his composure. He thought back to how she said humans complicated things. Tanneth chuckled and said, "We humans are fickle things, it seems we barely know our place in the world."
He paused to listen to Red, as she spoke about her father and how they used to watch the stars together. He smiled, "I did this a few times with my wife, before she passed. It was before I was a poet, when I was a gear in the system as a farmer."

"Although am not 'wild' anymore, he still work different from you when it comes to stuff like this, although i'm aware of things like feelings and stuff i'm still have the instinct to, hmm, you know." she chuckled
Red had her fingers crossed on her stomach, the stars were shining bright, the light of the moon gave Red's eye an almost supernatural glow. She turned her head to Tanneth and said "No one really knows their place in this world but does it really matter ? We should live our lives as we please, as long as we're not hurting anyone. For me, enjoying life is more important than figuring out why I live, we all die at the end anyway."
Red heard Tanneth's words, she knew the pain of loosing a loved one, she turned on her side, facing the man "you're a good man Tanneth, a good poet too, i'm sure that, whatever happened to your wife, you tried your best." She gave the man a smile and patted him in the head

Tanneth turned his head to face Red, "The person with hazel eyes I mentioned in that first poem was reference to my wife. It's been two years now, and I realize that I couldn't have changed the outcome. After all... she's the one that sacrificed herself to protect me. I know that she would want me to live my best life and pursue my dreams. That's why I became a poet, because it was my dream."
He smiled briefly. Red might be able to tell that behind his eyes was still a lingering sadness. Tanneth turned to face the sun, "My father never saw us wed. He was worked like a mule, and that does things to a human. I think he died when I was around your age. He knew of my feelings for her, he also knew the difficulty that was imposed by our culture when it came to marriage."
Tanneth sighed, he was surprised by how easily he opened up to Red, perhaps it was because of how genuine she was with him. He continued, "He died around the age of 40, it's also because of his death that I became able to wed Amephyst. That was her name, Amephyst. It fit her, she had jewel-like hazel eyes. She was also my best friend. I only ran into conflict when I tried to wed her. The mayor at the time sought after her as well, but he didn't have good intentions. His desires were that of lust and pride."
Tanneth stopped, exhaling for a moment, "I think I'll continue this story another night. But some days it's hard to stand and think there was nothing I could do more. Some days I end up regretting that I lived and she didn't, it just makes me so... angry with myself. Perhaps guilt would be a better word than regret, I'm not sure."
He placed his hand his eyes. The dying light of the smoking firepit would barely light the tears that fell from underneath his palm.

Red smile slowly became a sad one "I'm like you," she said, she curled up, hugging herself "I'm the reason why father is not here."
She sat down, looking at the fire, with tears in her eyes "it was my first time hunting properly, i had done parts of it but not everything, I was nervous, but I managed to track myself a bore, a big one." She sighed, than the first tear rolled
Red started sobbing but she was controlled enough to talk properly, "I was able to hit it but the shot wasn't clean and intended of running he charged." She tried clear her eyes already red around the edges because of her tears.
"I frooze." She sobbed "father saved me but the damn thing hit my father in the leg. I had to watch him bleed out as desperately tried to drag him to our cabin, he was big, both in size as in kindness. His last words was 'Be happy'."
Red started to cry, like she never did before, one could think she was holding that in for a long time.

Tanneth listened all the while his hand covered his face. His tears came to a stop, but he a wasn't sure how he could show his face again. She knew now... oh... she's like him. Tanneth lifted his hand and placed it to his side. He turned back over to face Red, seeing her complexion one of sorrow. He hesitated for a moment and watched her.
She's like me! Tanneth thought to himself. He lifted his arm and gently placed his hand on her shoulder. He whispered to her, "You're not alone."
He laid there, unknowing of what else he could say, or even if he should say it. 'Be happy?' Clearly her father was the reason she even was happy... Tanneth let out a hushed sigh and looked at Red. He found the words... words he remembered Amephyst using those years ago when they were wed. He spoke, "I'm here... what do you need?"
He was unsure of why those words impacted him from all those years ago, they weren't particularly the most mysterious or extravagant. They weren't words you needed to search for, or that intelligent men sought for and learned the intricacies of. They were words the farmer knew, words any common-folk could use in passing. Perhaps it was how they were used together... Tanneth blinked consciously, as if to cut the mental rabbit hole he was falling into. He knew why they impacted him, like the kind acts of another, these words had healed him in the past.

"N n n no" she said
"You can speak ?" He's eyes shot open
She pointed at herself and continued "o o o out a sider."
Although she was born with the others, she never felt like she belonged, there was some much to be learned and she had grown attached to the man

Red took a minute, a deep breath. "I need nothing Tanneth, but i fell better knowing i'm not alone." Her face quickly became a smile than she laughed. She laughed so hard her face became red, just like her name, her hair and fur seemed almost shine.
"Can I be honest mister ?" . before Tanneth could answer she said. "I was raised by a hunter. He cutted wood for fire and Hunted animals for a living. I not really that polite so I'll keep it to a minimum Mr poet but... What a fucking coincidence huh ?, That's so funny."
Red slowly became bi little more calm and said "I'm so sorry." Going back to her usual self
"If you want to sleep go ahead." She chuckled "I'm nocturnal. but if you want to talk I'll be here."

Tanneth smiled, happy to see Red in high spirits. He laughed himself, happy that by some measure they were alike. He stared into the stars and said, "Don't be sorry, there's nothing to forgive."
He watched the night's gems twinkle in the heavens and said, "I don't think I'm capable of sleeping now. This day has been one of my bests."
That being said, even Tanneth knew his eyelids were becoming heavy. Sleep would overtake him, even if he fought it. Tanneth lifted his arm and tried to grasp the stars before him. He spoke, "If coming here means I've lost everything I had, then it was a worthwhile trade. I finally see something that inspires me, drives me onwards... I think I have my dream now."
He tried to push himself off the ground but found himself incapable of lifting himself. He sighed, "Whatever I did in that spell of booze wore me out..."
Tanneth turned to face Red once more, "Thank you."
Tanneth closed his eyes, his breath slowing to a calm, peaceful pattern. He was asleep.

"No problem," Red said while Tanneth fade away to his dreams, she watched the stars for a while longer, the noises of the night forest filled her ears.
She also slept for a while, she didn't want to be tired in the morning, it'll take her sometime but she can adjust to being awake during the day, she had done it before for now only time could tell what would happen.
The Vulx were awake before the sun, the meat seemed ready and Tanneth was either sleeping or waking up. Red looked at Tanneth, her lips became a smile, she liked the company
Red got up, walked to the edge of the water, took her boots off and put one of her feet in the water, it was a bit cold but that would be enough for her, she took the leather strap on her left hand that would stop her bow string to hurt her left wrist, than her dress followed
Now completely nude she walked towards the water and went as deep as she her chest than submerged her head. After a few seconds she would resurface and use her sharp claw like fingernails to unknot her hair, she did the same with her tail.

Tanneth woke, unsure if it was around dawn's first light or some twilight before it. He was at first concerned when he didn't see Red and sat up to look for her. After spotting her blue dress by the river, he stood up and called out saying that nature called him. He walked past the treeline and went a decent distance to ensure privacy. If Red needed him, she could likely track him down by scent.
After doing his business by a bush, Tanneth walked around for a bit and looked down at the ground. His mind swirled with memories and soon his sense were no longer his focus. His sight and focus drifted elsewhere. The image of a dusty dirt path through golden fields of crop appeared. It was the path he would walk for three hours to get to the busy part of town. He made this journey twice a year to pay his taxes, a tenth of his good crop, and it seemed like the good crop waned each year.
Tanneth shook his head and his memories trailed back to that document nailed to the wall of his house, his father's will. It gave him the ownership of the house once he passed away, it what was Tanneth called a double-bladed sword, a blessing and a curse. It enabled by the laws of his town to propose to Amephyst, it was a requisite that one must own land before they could marry in that town. However, it bound him to the life of a farmer, a tedious melancholy that made each day blur into one.
It had its joyous moments, Amephyst and him were best friends since their earliest memories and the step into marriage was something that was natural for them. However, it provided wake of tension between Tanneth and the mayor, making him hate his birthplace even more. He dreamed of far-off lands and adventures where he could be like those wandering bards that he had seen in the town bar. They told tales of their travels and it was thanks to them that he even started creating poems.
Tanneth shook his head and his senses became his focus once more. Speaking last night, it unraveled many things in his mind and he felt the need to let things adjust and to let his mind adapt to this new face. Red was a surprise in many ways. She made Tanneth feel youthful once more, and she eased the pain that he felt when confronting the trauma of his past.
Before guilt pushed Tanneth into the mud, making him sink into the dirt as if he was walking through it knee's deep. Red... she made him feel lighter. Confiding in her unraveled things he had tried to forget, and these emotions were resurfacing... but maybe...
Tanneth walked back to their temporary campsite and walked to his things. He grabbed his hat and spoke aloud, "Almost forgot, I'm not complete without this!" And with that the man placed the black hat with the yellow feather on his head.

Red had only her head above water, her eyes closed when she heard Tanneth's voice, her instincts took over and she dip underwater but immediately went up.
She heard the man walk into the woods and giglled, shook her head with a smile on her face and got out of the water.
Once out she dressed herself, she her had again, this time because of the dirty edges on the lower parts of her dress, "I'll clean this tonight," she thought, than Tanneth emerged from the woods, speaking out loud
She straighten up her back, placed her arms without touching her body with her palms open, her fingertips almost pointed to the side.
"Did you sleep well ?" She asked

The man grabbed the last of his things, opening his small bag and pulling a feathered quill from it. He inspected it for a second before placing back into the bag. Tanneth smiled seeing Red and replied, "Surprisingly I slept very well."
He walked over to Red and smiled. Tanneth leaned close and sniffed her, before teasingly saying, "You smell good." He had a cheeky smile on his face. Tanneth pulled away placed his hand against his chin. "I've been thinking, are we the only people here? and if we aren't should we seek them out? The other option is gathering materials to make a more permanent living situation, you may be able to live like this as a vulx, but I'm human and I have needs that require something more permanent. Either way I would like to extend the invitation to travel together."

Tanneth took his deer hide and wrapped it around the meat, "This should do for now."
He looked at Red's eyes studying them for a brief moment before smiling. Something that was slowly coming naturally to him was the concept of morale. It's easier for other to be in high spirits if you can create a positive atmosphere. They needed it as far as he could tell. Should they go north, south? How could then even tell what was the best direction.
Tanneth thought for a moment, all rivers lead to the seas. He looked at Red and said, "Let's follow this river. It should lead to the seas if we follow it downstream. If there's anyone else here, it's more likely that they have not settled too deep into the island. Meaning that we'll find evidence of them near the coasts. I only hope that they're friendly. Only being armed with a dagger does basically nothing if your enemy has a bow and numbers."
He looked at the river and spoke as if he was reciting a poem. In truth he was writing the lines as the words left his mouth;
To the coasts we go Our journey to and fro! Down the river Diamond To the coasts of almond!
Will we find what we seek Or will we need to climb the mountain peaks! Then there we shall go Our journey to and fro!
The Man and Beauty travel As the story unravels!..
Tanneth smiled concluding his little poem. He felt the need to make a new poem and the clear river desperately needed a name. The river 'Diamond', Tanneth liked that name, it referenced it's clear waters and crystal-like appearance.
