Deep within the depths of the ship, the bilges are in a state of constant damp and darkness. Few come down here if they can help it, although sailors are often assigned to pumping duty as a punishment. The unfortunate souls are forced to stand knee-deep in stinking water, turning the cranks that pump the water out and keep the ship afloat.

Appearance: Rain has medium tan skin, earthy brown eyes and darkest brown hair that has been kept in long braids. A collection of teeth and fangs from her successful hunts have been sewn into the length of some of her braids. She wears warpaint that denote her tribe and family lineage in terms of pattern and color.
She mostly wears clothes made of leather, fur and dyed woven plant fibre that has been carefully sewn together. She typically wears a headress using the head fur/skull/antlers of the animals commonly found within the season.
Equipment: Her weapons consists of two daggers that that can be joined and placed in the same sheath. They have symbols etched into the handle and base of the blade.
A small flask of blood that has been treated with herbs and oil to prevent coagulation.
Pouch of herbs.
Skills and Abilities: Hunting and tracking: She usually hunts creatures of a bestial nature, but it not necessarily limited to animals.
Dancing: Due to the nature of her Magic, learning the proper base skills to dance was a must. She specializes in an acrobatic form of weapon dancing. She can use swords and spear/staves in her routines though her preferred is her two dagger technique.
Simple weaponry skills: handy for all things self defense related, hunting related and dance related (See Dancing with Dagger).
Survivalist: They aren't fancy, but they are knowledgeable about what is needed to survive such as fire-making, shelter building, how to clothe and feed herself.
Dancing with Daggers(Ritual blood magic):
This ritual magic required both a component of blood to be poured onto her daggers and specific movements to be completed for an effect to be generated. Missing a step or getting interrupted will prevent the magic from taking effect. Once the effect is done the blood will "burn" away and require more blood before more effects can be completed.
Effects:
-Hunter's Breath: Rain points her daggers tips towards each other so that her arms form a loose circle where she will perform several increasingly fast spins either moving or in place. After, these spins are completed, she will break the circle while the other is kept at the level of her midsection while she slows her spins till she comes to a full stop. Successfully completing this set will give her an increase in her vigor/energy and allow her to feel significantly less exhaustion in the moment. Adequate rest will be needed after the effect wears off depending how strenuous her activities were while the effect was in place.
-Rage of the hound: The movements are short abrupt and fast, while she stomps her foot on the ground with a snarling expression. The movements are more flexible in style but she needs to keep stomping the beat long enough to go in blood rage. Blood rage will make her hyper focus on a single target, and make her strikes faster and stronger. She is less likely to notice pain in this state but will become acutely aware after it wears off or upon target death.
Blood's Eye: Rain must be able to complete her routine in the four directions. This is a slower more meditative dance that will put her in a trance like state in order to view the memories of the blood her blades are coated with. Depending on freshness and quantity the memories may be clearer and abundant, or fuzzy and sparse.
Wrath of the Ancestors: Has to manage to finish a dance in a circle and end where she started. Once the circle is complete all blood on her person, including her own becomes highly acidic to others and may leave burns and disfigurement to any that comes into contact till the effect ends.
Sickness Curse: A dance that required her to balance her daggers upright (By the handle) in her palms while she dances in place. The blood component must also be from the intended target, and for the target to get cut once dance is completed for chance of effect. If the effect takes, then the target will get an infection that can include high fever, Vomiting, delirium, sluggishness, Pains and if left untreated; possible death. If The Target has a decent immune system they may not feel any effect, or will get symptoms but eventually get better with proper tending on the wound itself. Disinfection the wound early enough can also prevent malady.
Dance of Stagnation: A fairly fluid dance that requires her to move loosely, meaning her daggers cut less deeply when they strike while she is performing this dance. If she manages to cut the target during this routine, the target will get a sudden onset of Anemia symptoms, which include Fatigue, weakness, dizziness ect.
These effects are difficult to mix together without unfortunate side effect, that being "Blood Curse". Blood Curse causes a burning sensation in the individual's veins all throughout their bodies It is an incapacitating kind of pain that Almost all Blood Dancers usually pass out from long before the effect wears off.
Biography: From When she was a little girl, Rain has only really known her village and the friendly faces of most of her fellow tribe. They had a mostly secure place in the heard of the forest, not far from rivers and lakes. They Were always big on hunting sport for both food and fun, though even if they came back empty handed, they'd still have the food from the field to not go hungry. She remembers the day she was old enough to get her face painted and how proud her mother was when she and the other kids all began learning the steps to their dances, while her father was in charge of teaching them to hunt. She remembers how one of the Elders, a braggart, showed his scars and made up wild stories about how he got them, while his long time friend and brother rolled his eyes, knowing the real reason was because he'd bailed his ass out of trouble more time than he even remembers by now.
She remembered when she she had performed her successful spell after so many failed attempts, falls and missteps. To boot, for all her trouble she was able to bring back to the village her first catch, a young deer they proceeded to cook up and celebrate the milestone. The day after, her mother tearfully told her that there was nothing more she could teach her, and that as for the rest, she should heed to the Ancestors and find it with her heart.
She remembered some bitterly cold winters after, a few faces passing away in peace, And her spending much of her time communing with her ancestors. She was a full woman, her village relied on her now, and as one of their best she did all she could to provide and teach. She had been in the middle of a hunt when the flood waters came...

Rain had been glad the task she set off to do was closer to "home". How grateful some of the crew members were when she'd explained what she was here to do had her raise an eyebrow, especially in contrast to others who'd say it was all "hogwash" whatever that meant. It felt like they were saying it wasn't real, but honestly the few attempts at getting information from anyone hadn't proved too fruitful.
Not that it ultimately mattered too much. There was a moment where once she'd been lead tot he top of the stairs, a waft of the smell from the stagnant sea water had caused her to reel back a step. She'd smelled stagnant water before, but this had seemed like a very different animal somehow. The Blood Dancer set a hand on the handles of her daggers, and after steeling her stomach and her courage, she began her descent into the damp darkness below. Her steps down weren't rushed as she tried to make out the few details she could, like how cramped the space felt with all the water inside. There was only a reflective pause before she threaded into the knee deep water. The resistance against her legs wasn't welcomed, but she could make due, especially if she kept her guard up and excepted to find something.

As Rain descended the ladder, the young sailor tasked with leading her here cast a nervous glance down into the darkness beneath. Perkins held a rusty bullseye lantern in his hand, the beam wobbling slightly as he struggled to keep his balance on his new wooden leg. Sighing, the dirty-faced lad took a moment to reflect on his terrible luck. Not only had he recently taken a tumble from the rigging that cost him his leg, he'd also drawn the short straw to guide the creepy witch lady into the haunted part of the ship. What if there really was a monster down here like everyone said? He certainly couldn't run away from it, not with one leg and all the water. Still, Quartermaster Prena had said that everyone had to do their part to keep the ship afloat, even cripples like him. It was either this or be sent ashore to face all manner of wild beasts and stricter rationing, and so he'd swallowed his complaints and taken the lantern.
Rain's legs slipped into the stagnant water, sending ripples across the otherwise still surface. The fetid liquid was uncomfortably lukewarm, giving it a sickly, feverish feeling as it seeped into her shoes and clothes. Perkins followed behind her, pulling up his long bilge-boots to his hips and staggering slightly in the water. Balancing on his peg-leg was hard enough without having to wade through deep bilge-water, and he was seriously starting to wonder if he should have simply let himself get sent off to dry land. The lantern shook as he trembled, sweeping its beam nervously into the dark shadows and corners of the bilge.
"I-it'll be right down this way, ma'am," he said, voice cracking as stuttered. "The worst of the rot is all the way to the stern, so we're going to have to go some ways. I'll help you fix the wood, so long as you make sure the monster doesn't get me. They say it's got three heads, you know. Every head has more teeth than the last. It melts into shadows and slides out of cracks in the wood. Uh...or so they say. Rumors, I guess...but my cousin Ricky in the canteen said that his buddy down in carpentry met had a drink with a caulker's mate who'd seen the thing!"
Off in the darkness, water dripped and rotten planks creaked. A sudden splash drew a cry of fright from Perkins, who stumbled back and whipped his lantern around to see what made the noise. The shaky beam revealed the tail of a large rat as it swam out of sight, likely frightened by the pair as they'd entered.

The Warmth of the water was concerning on many levels. It was as if they stood inside the mouth of something terrible, waiting for the charade of being a ship to end with a single chomp that never came but still lingered. The air here was thick and tense, and not just because the young Sailor who accompanied her was convincingly afraid.
She'd been half convince to just ask to hold the lantern for him considering how shaky he was. If that thing well into the water, they'd have no light at all, but as scared as he was, he'd kept himself upright. This was a relief, 'cause getting out in a haste would be complicated if she also had to drag him out through the darkness. The task at hand was still clear though. fix as much of the wood as they could manage. In all honestly, Rain knew nothing about ships, so she trusted the man's judgement when he advised it would be a bit of a way further. She'd been content to stick near him, mostly so she she could prevent him from falling into the water with how unsteady he was. "That all sounds absurd." Rain stated bluntly after the lad had been permitted to run his mouth about all the horrid things this creature was or could do. She didn't buy it, usually stories like these could be explained away by something else, or a trick of the eye.
It took the splash in the water not far from them to show that perhaps the dancer was more unsettled than her stoic and stony face let on. The hand that hovered near her daggers swiftly moved and drew her weapons, transferring one dagger to her other hand and bracing herself in a solid stance. When the light showed it had just been a rat, she sighed heavily and eyed her guide with furrowed brows.
"Are you always this yellow-bellied?"

Perkins took a few shaky breaths, lantern trembling in his hand as he steadied himself against a damp, slimy pillar. His hand stuck lightly to the mold-covered wood and he let out a grunt of disgust as he pulled it away, wiping his palm off on the bag of tools and supplies he carried on his back. At Rain's comments, he turned and glared at her, his pale face flushing red with embarrassment and irritation.
"I'm not yellow-bellied," he grumbled, splashing past her into the darkness. "I'm worried, and rightfully so! You don't believe me, but there's really something strange on this ship. Something else that shouldn't be here, you know? It pushed me off the rigging! I didn't see anyone, but I was definitely pushed. I'm not making this up, you know. I don't care what that crazy doctor said, it's not all in my head."
As the ventured deeper into the ship, they would feel a warm, damp breeze. The air was stale and had an oddly sickly smell, coming in regular, gentle wafts like the breathing of some giant beast. The further they went, the more it started to feel as though they were within some massive living thing, stricken with disease.
"Here's the first spot," said Perkins, pointing the lantern at a particularly damp part of the wall. Water seeped and oozed through spongy wood, the interior of the hull riddled with tiny holes. White worms crawled through the boards, squirming away from the light as they burrowed deeper into the bones of the ship. Perkins grimaced, pulling the bag from his back.
"We'll paste over it with tar and cover it with fresh boards," he said. "I don't know how long that will hold, but it should stop the leaks for a little while. With the ship in the state that it is, though...it all seems kind of futile, don't you think? Like we're just- hey, what's that?"
A dark form moved through the water, too long and slender to be a rat. The lantern's light reflected off the water's scummy surface, making it difficult to see exactly what the creature was before it vanished. An eel of some sort, perhaps?

"I can't say one way or another what happened to you on the rigging, but it could have just been a strong wind. Unless you're telling me this whole boat is cursed from top to bottom." Rain let Perking ahead of her but she followed closely behind. She probably could have gotten used to the warm stagnant smell of the water if the air was also been still, but with the occasional draft wafting in somewhere it blew the smell right to her nose. It smelled as bad as a half-eaten rotting carcass on a hot summer's day. After she put away her daggers, she pinched her nose closed.
Unfortunately the sight that greeted her where they needed to be wasn't much better. The wall was riddled with maggots and for a moment she wondered if they weren't somehow in the inside of a corpse somehow. The woman had the face of disgust looking at the first leak they were to fix. Suddenly she regretted accepting the job, but wasn't anything she wasn't going to get over once its done.
Wading through the water she used one of her daggers to prod at the overly soft wood, watching the tip sink into it and bounce back when she remove the pressure. That was some wood rot. She was listening to Perkins explain how exactly they were going to fix this, she turned her attention to where she man had asked what "that" was. She only caught a shadow slipping away at the last second.
"With how many holes there are in this ship it's probably just a fish that got in. If it makes you feel better I'll try and catch it, but if I do I'll make you kiss it." She warned and outstretched her hand towards him as if asking him to pass over the tar in the name of getting things done as quickly as possible.

"She's a ship," grumbled Perkins, pulling a bulky metal canister from his bag. "Not a boat, a ship. You damn landlubbers are always mixing the two of them up. There's a difference, you know."
He unscrewed the top of the canister, letting the acrid odor of hot tar fill the dank space. The canister was specially designed for this task, with a compartment in the bottom to put hot coals in to keep the thick black sludge from hardening. Taking a wooden stick, the sailor stirred the tar around a bit, lifting it up to check the consistency. The viscous, bubbling goop clung to the stick, trailing a long strand down into the water below.
"Here you go," he said, handing her the canister and a heavy brush. "Make sure you put enough, but don't be wasteful with it. We're going to need all the tar we can get, judging by how leaky this tub is getting. You can catch that thing if you want, but I wouldn't. Anything that's been living here can't be good to eat. Besides...I don't know if it was a fish. Looked kind of strange...but who knows, maybe I'm getting jumpy down here."
The tip of Rain's dagger came away stained red, and the sight made Perkins jump. Turning the light on the dagger, he squinted nervously at the red stain, which looked suspiciously like blood.
"It...it must be rust," he said. "Rusty water from screws and nails, seeping through the wood. It's got to be. I've never seen it get this bad bef-"
He cut off as something splashed off in the shadows some distance away. Turning the light again, Perkins peered into the darkness, but saw nothing.
"Hello?" he called. No response came but the damp breeze and his own voice echoing back at the two of them. Perkins shuddered, shining the light back on the worm-filled wall so that Rain could continue working.

While Perkins stirred up the tar, Rain pressed her dagger along the wood in order to check how much of it had gone soft, and where the edges of the repair were. Her dagger came away stained red, and the unexpected sight had her jerk back slightly and retreat a step with a splash. Her heart was unsettled, especially with the way Perkins darted their only source of light around at every little disturbance.
She gave her guide a side-eye as he tried to rationalize the blood. He would know better, so in that sense she had to defer to his judgement, but the explanation didn't sit well in her stomach. By now, the coincidences were beginning to pile up, and what she could dismiss before, well... Maybe they had been right? At the very least in part?
No words were said as Rain had taken hold of the tar and begun smearing the molten viscous substance over the boards. It should have been an easy task, but Perkins once again took the light away and in a mildly uncoordinated jerk to turn in his direction she attempted to address him.
"Perkins- Fuck!" She hissed as a drop of tar from the fresh dipped brush had landed on her hand, and the minor burn smarted like a wasp sting.
"Do you mind?" Her tone was a bit less courteous than it had been previously up to this point. As he brought the light back onto her work surface and continued brushing the tar onto the planks and watching the worms crawl away from their death. "if you never mind the stupid fish, we'll be done sooner, and we can get out of here."

Perkins continued to grumble as she illuminated Rain's working area, casting nervous glances over his shoulder into the darkness. For a few moments, the damp area was silent except for the wet squelch of the tar and Perkins' nervous, fast-paced breathing. Another splash drew the beam of his light once more, and he grabbed Rain's shoulder hurriedly as he pointed the lantern off into the shadows.
"That wasn't a fish," he hissed, the beam shaking and trembling against dark pillars and sodden crates. "That was far too big to be a fish. I saw something moving over there, look! I'm not imagining things, woman! There's something behind those pillars over there, I swear it. Look, you'll see!"
Something splashed again behind the crates, but didn't come into view. Perkins' shaky grip on the lantern didn't help, making the beam dance and bounce over the dark water. Whatever was splashing back there certainly seemed pretty big, but didn't approach for now.
"It's the monster," whispered Perkins, voice trembling almost as badly as his lantern. "It's going to eat us both, I know it! That's what happened to Josef's cousin's friend's drinking buddy! I heard it myself, there's something bad out here. We're going to die down here, and I don't want to! Come on, let's get out of here before it gets us!"

Perkin's nervous energy kept Rain on edge, mostly so she didn't get more tar on herself. This time, when the light went away again, she slammed the brush back into the thick tar probably a bit harder than she'd meant to though thankfully it didn't splash due to how thick it was. She slapped Perkins' hand off her shoulder as she turned to the man who by now was scared shitless.
"That's it."
The Blood dancer shoved the can of tar towards the nervous man. "I'll go check it out just to prove its not that serious, and if it turns out to be a fish, then I'll make you eat it. Keep putting on the tar." Her threat escalated to being even more unpleasant, especially if it was living in these waters. Without anything further to say, she turned towards where the sound of the splashing had been. In slow deliberate movements she began to walk through the water, trying to cause the least amount of disturbance as possible beyond what would be normal for a ship with a tendency to sway with the waves.
Slowly the daggers were unsheathed, the red stain from earlier still on one of them. She held them firmly in front of her at the ready as she approached. Rain managed to get closer to the crates, and once she was close enough that was when she leapt into action. The woman rushed over one of the crates in an attempt to round the pillar and ambush whatever thing was supposedly there, and hoping to catch it by surprise.

Perkins yelped as the irate witch thrust the canister of hot tar into his hands, juggling it awkwardly as he tried not to spill it all over himself. Only the fluid's viscosity prevented a disaster, keeping all but a single drop of the thick pitch from dripping down onto Perkins' stained shirt. Placing the canister down on a cross-beam, he swatted at the droplet instinctively, trying to wipe it off. Unfortunately for him, his efforts resulted in little more than a black smear along his shirt and burned fingertips. Perkins cursed, dunking his hand into the grimy water. In doing so, he inadvertently shook and waved the lantern, making it even harder for Rain to see where she was going.
As she waded cautiously through the bilgewater, the splashing fell silent. The warm, clammy breeze stopped, as though the ship were somehow holding its breath. Perkins' cursing faded into the background as she crept up, stalking through the water like a heron hunting its prey. If any fish were swimming in the dark water around her legs, they were invisible this far away from the light source.
Bursting around the corner, Rain found herself staring at a large, sodden-looking man. The bulbous figure stood silently in the water, facing the wall and not reacting to the sound of her arrival. He wore a soaking-wet and filthy sailor's uniform that looked torn in several places and seemed to be several sizes too small for his body. His arms and neck bulged from the shirt, the flabby flesh looking a sickly pale in the weak light. All of a sudden, from behind her, Perkins began screaming. Her corner of the ship was suddenly plunged into darkness as the poor sailor began flailing the lantern around in a panic, his job as light-bearer clearly forgotten.
"Get it off me!" he yelled, splashing desperately in the water. "Get it off! Help me! It's got me! Please, won't someone help! Oh god oh god oh god get it off!"
The bulbous figure standing before her began to turn slowly, its hulking outline barely visible in the darkness. Its face was entirely obscured by the shadows thanks to her panicking "guide."

Rain hadn't minded Perkin's distress with the hot tar. If anything he deserved at least that for how she ended up burning herself too. His new injury however was eclipsed by the sudden disgust she had from the sight of this man who looked far too bloated for the clothes he wore. It looked unhealthy, unnatural, off-putting, and for a moment she didn't know what to even make of what she was looking at. Or who? It lloked like a man, but not like any man she'd ever seen.
"Perkins- You were correct-"
It was the sound of Perkins screaming bloody murder that broke her out of whatever horrid trance she'd found herself in. Seeing this creature that, one, wasn't a fish, and two, also wasn't supposed to be there, she had no reason to doubt the man that is some form of legitimate danger. There was then, a choice. Lose sight of the creature, or go help Perkins.
Following her code of honor, she huffed and stepped out from behind the pillar so that she could keep the creature in her peripheral, and offer a glance towards her companion and see what had him despite how the light bounced around and made it infinitely hard to see. Seeing the way he was flailing wasn't comforting but she needed to know what he was up against.

The bloated man continued turning, its movements slow and laborious. It seemed to be in no hurry, but Rain would be able to feel its gaze on her back as she peeked around the corner. Perkins was flailing his burned hand, slapping it desperately against his pants and the wall. Whenever it flicked into the beam of the lantern held in his other hand, she would catch a glimpse of what looked like white blobs stuck to the hand. Between his flailing and the lantern, however, it was impossible to tell exactly what was going on without getting closer. His panicked cries rose to a crescendo, turning to pained shrieks as he tried desperately to get something off of his hand.
Behind her, the hulk of the man began to move. It lumbered slowly towards her, splashing noisily in the water. As the light flashed over its face, Rain would catch a glimpse of milky-white eyes and a wide, gaping maw. The creature's tongue lolled out of its mouth, and Rain would see that it was crawling with fat white maggots. The horrific sight was only visible for a split second before the light was whipped away again as Perkins tried to use the lantern to beat at whatever had gotten onto his hand.

Rain tried to process what those white blobs even were. Perkins had burned his hand like she did, but what he did differently was she heard him stick his hand into the water. Exposed skin into the water. They were now stubbornly stuck to him. Did the ocean have leeches? Perhaps they behaved the same way? IF so..
"Perkins, you need to calm down! Use the hot tar brush on them and try to burn them without burning yourself, then get out of here!" She could not only feel the gaze of the lumbering man on her back, but she could practically feel his oppressive presence looming nearby as her senses kicking into high alert. She'd turned back to make sure he wasn't on top of her already, but thankfully it seemed content to take its time. Its maggot filled tongue practically waved at her as it swayed with her step. The sight was unlike any she'd ever seen. For once she felt her blood run cold and her heart beat in her chest, but the thought that she needed to retreat didn't cross her mind yet. She was still in good shape to fight, and if she had to she would.
The light whisked away again and she could only see the outline of this beast. She backed away one step at a time until she could gather enough of her courage to figure out a plan. The beat of her steps wouldn't work here due to the water, so going into a rage was out of the question. But more important, she needed to figure out if this thing could still bleed. She waited for it to come further out into the open where she could maneuver around it.
One that time had come, the dancer crossed her daggers above her head and knocked them against each other for three beats. Once the three beats were complete, she bolted around where the bloated creature should be by her calculation, and continued until in theory she should be standing behind him. With her daggers she took three rapid stabs in succession, stepping forward with each one should it had missed, though by the third she backed away to assess the situation again.

Perkins' frantic breathing was a clear indication that he was not calming down at all, but thankfully the man stopped screaming and heeded her advice. Cradling the lantern awkwardly in his stricken hand, he dunked the brush into the hot tar and slathered it on the creatures on his hand...and promptly burned his hand on the tar. The unfortunate sailor cursed, dropping the lantern as he frantically shook his stinging hand. The lantern fell into the water with a splash and a hiss as their only light was extinguished, plunging the bilge into an absolute, oppressive darkness.
Rain's second thrust sank into spongy flesh just as the lantern went out, stabbing into a body that seemed far softer than a human should be. The creature turned quickly at the attack, the dagger carving a long channel in its torso as it whipped around in the darkness. A flailing arm flew towards her head, the squelch of wet flesh giving the only warning of the impending blow. Meanwhile, Perkins' panic reached new heights in the sudden darkness. He splashed and flailed, stumbling about in the darkness.
"Witch!" he cried, injured hand forgotten in his fright. "Witch, where are you? What's going on? What's that noise? We've got to get out of here! Oh heavens, which way is out? How are we going to get out of here? Oh, we're going to die down here in the dark and damp and bilgewater and worms..."
Thankfully, the man still had enough sense in his head to try and light a match. The tiny orange glow barely illuminated his shaking fingers, but offered him some amount of comfort. Unfortunately for Rain, it wasn't nearly enough light by which to see her opponent.
