Appearance: Theodosia stands at a fairly average, unimpressive height. Her red hair and numerous golden piercings and ornaments are quite eye-catching, although her tendency to glare at people often dissuades a second glance. She wears a number of bright silks and elaborately patterned robes befitting a proper fortune-teller. The twisting, vine-like tattoos on her arms are actually just painted on, a fact that she tries to keep hidden from people.
Skills and Abilities: Theodosia is a trained fortune-teller, gifted with the ability to see through the mists of time and pluck upon the threads of fate...or so she claims. Whether she actually possesses any such skills can be questionable at times, but her knowledge of fortune-telling methods (from cards to ashes to chicken entrails) is unrivaled.

Welcoming with the scent of incense, the inside of the tent was rather lavish with the amount of carpets and rugs. Oliver felt instantly at home in this small yet cozy area. His attention was quickly drawn to the herbs that were hanging. He surveyed their dryness in an attempt to ascertain if they had been gathered in the new world or brought from the old. Such things were of much interest to Oliver. Perhaps it was the heady incense or his natural disposition to be easily distracted, but Oliver did not yet notice if the tent had any other occupants.

As he stepped into the tent, Oliver would immediately be struck with by the intoxicating smell of burning incense. It was a heady, exotic scent that created a warm, dreamlike atmosphere within the tent. The burning candles didn't provide much in the way of illumination, casting the tent in a sort of shadowy twilight. At a glance, the herbs seemed to be very dry indeed. However, upon Oliver's close inspection, he would realize that they looked awfully similar to the plants growing at the edge of the tree line just outside of camp. They had the sort of dry, brittle look of leaves that had been dried quickly in front of a fire, rather than a slow, natural aging process. As he inspected the "herbs", a low, breathy voice rang out over across the tent, the intonation slow and lyrical.
"The fates whispered of a hero stepping through my door," said Theodosia, sitting cross-legged on a cushion before a low table. Her bracelets jangled as she raised a hand to gesture for Oliver to take a seat across from her, a large crystal ball on the table between them.
"Are you that hero?" she asked, lighting another candle and setting it on the table beside the crystal ball. "Have you come to answer my call, to find and return a lost soul to his family? The spirits told me that you'd appear. Come now, sit. Make yourself comfortable. The tension in your muscles will disrupt the delicate link between my mind's eye and the sands of time."

Oliver had not expected to receive a telling, but welcomed it. He loved things like this. Would this woman use magic or did she get her insight some other way? There was always the possibility that everything she'd say would be meaningless nonsense, but that was often the most entertaining.
"Yes, I came in response to the ad." Oliver always considered himself the hero in his own story, but wouldn't admit it openly.
Oliver was hoping to see a little magic. He could feel that the arcane energies in this land were not as stifled as out in the misty seas but there was still a dulling effect that would make accessing it more difficult. Oliver had not yet tried himself. The temptation to touch the orb and attempt to channel the powers of the land tugged, but he resisted. Instead he made himself comfortable and cleared his mind so as to better absorb the coming experience, whatever it may be.

Theodosia gave Oliver her most mysterious smile, sliding her fingertips over the crystal ball's smooth, polished service. This lad looked like a decent enough person, and he had come to find Absalom, so she felt a little bit bad for treating him like a common rube. Still, she had a business to run and a reputation to uphold. How was she supposed to keep food on the table if word got out that her predictions of the future were more about educated guesses than glimpses into the threads of fate? No, it wouldn't do at all. This man would get the reading that he wanted, then he could go and find her good-for-nothing brother.
"A hero indeed," she crooned, reaching out to take Oliver's hand in her own. She turned his hand face-up, running a black-painted fingernail along the lines of his palm. Nodding to herself as though in deep concentration, she wondered idly if this man had a real job or if he just made his living tracking down missing children. Whatever it was, she supposed, it was a lucky thing that he'd been around.
"You've come to the right place, hero," she said. "I see glory in your future, the glory of a job well done. You will seek out what has been lost, bringing it back into the light. There may be difficulty ahead of you, but I'm sure that you'll push through it. That's what heroes do, after all. You're destined for greatness, I can see it in your future."
She smiled again, trying her best to look read the man's face and gauge his reaction to her fortune. An encouraging one seemed like the right direction to go, especially if she wanted him to help her. He looked to be the sort of man who liked to be told promising things, after all.

Respectful of superstition, when she found the fortune teller's tent an omen and quickly headed inside. She found herself greeted by a wall of smoke and looked to her left to see a black mirror hanging from the wall. Was it a crime to let a draft in sometimes? Lucky shrugged her thick backpack on her shoulders and flicked out a few coins from when she had won on the boat. "Excuse me?" Her voice rang out. "I would like to have my fortune read." Taking a seat on a bright read cushion she waited for the teller to come out and speak to her. Rolling the coins between her fingers she counted 15 worth of gold in her knuckles. Hopefully it would be enough to loose the tongue of the fortune-teller.

Theodosia knelt on a cushion, feet swept to the side as she stirred her tea and waited for customers. Business had been quiet for much of the day, with her only customer being a bent-backed old woman asking whether her son had survived. Theodosia had given her a vague, noncommittal answer, and the woman had left seeming somewhat less than satisfied. She'd always hated when customers asked after specific people, especially when it was almost certain that they'd drowned in the flooding. The last thing she wanted was to tell someone that their loved one was dead and gone, only for them to wash up on the beach or arrive on a ship full of survivors, for such an event would likely spell the end of her business. The townsfolk would realize that she was a fraud and run her out of town, which would undoubtedly lead to a horrible death of hunger or exposure in the wild. She shuddered, not wanting to think about such a fate.
When the tent flap opened and somebody else stepped in, Theodosia resisted the urge to look up immediately. It wouldn't do for a fortune-teller to look surprised, after all. She continued to stir her tea, looking up only after a measured moment and giving the strange woman her most mysterious smile. She'd always thought it was rather rude for people to simply come in and demand that she read their fortunes as though she were a mere show pony, but seldom voiced her annoyance.
"Child of fortune," she said, rising slowly and striding over to take a seat across from the newcomer. "Welcome. I had a feeling that you'd be finding your way here soon. A fortune you request, and a fortune you shall receive. As for your gold, though...I'm afraid I've little use for that at the moment. Have you anything else of value? Tea leaves, silks, liquor...anything of the sort? Comfort of the body frees the mind to look beyond, after all. As for your fortune...is there anything in particular that you'd like to know? The ocean of fate is vast, and it would help me greatly to know what exactly to look for."

"I have a sack of dice. They are well made and used for gambling. Other than that I can't offer much."
If she played her cards right Lucky could get more, trick diced were easy to produce though not cheap by any means. She propped her feet up and thought about what she wanted to know from the fortune teller. Something broad surely but something that could steer her path here in Port Argentium. With her fingers laced behind her head she asked the fortune teller her name.
"Sorry I don't want to skip the pleasantries, though child of fortune I am. My name is Lucky. What's yours? Forgive me, I have barely stepped off the boat. I know what I need to ask, it's a simple thing. How can I rise to get back what's mine?" Lucky was sincere and appeared steady and calm, she had no real worries at the time. The biggest thing on her mind was getting a look at the library or some other point of interest. She would need the library for her studies to start delving into the wilds for a base away from the city. If her racket was going to get big enough she would need to have a secure hideout few people knew about.
"By that I mean, am I going to find myself in fortune or ruin? I heard fortune favors the bold, I am here for whatever word you could give me."

Theodosia considered the dice carefully, wondering if she'd be able to get any value out of them. She had little use for dice, as gambling was unbecoming of fortune-tellers. Losing, after all, would cast a doubt on her fortune-telling abilities. Besides, nobody would play with her, a sign that people still believed in her. Still...perhaps there was something to be done with the dice. Maybe someone would give her something useful in exchange for a fortune-teller's dice.
"The dice will be fine," she said, smiling. "Gambling is a rather vulgar pastime, betting on one's fate...but isn't that what we all do every day of our lives? Your name is Lucky, you say...a lucky name for a lucky woman. Child of fortune indeed. I am Theodosia Planchette, oracle and mystic. I'll read your fortune, Lucky dear. Let's see...what manner of prophecy shall we use?"
Lucky, she thought. Who named their child Lucky? It sounded like a cruel joke, a sure way to make a child the most misfortunate being to ever walk this accursed land. She wouldn't have even named a dog Lucky, much less a daughter. Her own name, thankfully, was reasonable enough and had the mystical air befitting a fortune-teller. Pulling an ornate jewelry box from a side table, she opened it and began rummaging through it. What would appeal to this woman? Cards, perhaps? Tea didn't seem like it would fit. She carried dice and likely enjoyed gambling...perhaps the knucklebones would work. Digging into the box, she retrieved a blue velvet bag and dangled it between painted nails.
"Knucklebones," she said. "Seeking knowledge from creatures of the land that have gone before. I'll cast the bones and allow the threads of fate to pull them into place, offering a glimpse into the future. Is this to your liking, or would you prefer another method?"
Upending the bag over her hand, she poured a number of bleached, misshapen bones into her palm and held them up for Lucky to inspect. If she had any experience with butchering bones, Lucky might recognize them as having belonged to sheep.
