Appearance: Drachen is the most imposing figure in the settlement of Cabbeling, towering head and shoulders above most of Cabbeling's already-large populace. The dull, dragonscale plate armor adds bulk to Drachen's natural size, and he is never seen without it.
Equipment: Enchanted plate armor made from dragonscale, giving it enhanced durability, lighter weight, and a near-airtight seal when the joints are properly arranged. He wields a greatsword and the Shield of Loyalty, an artifact that generates a healing substance known as Balance.
Skills and Abilities: Drachen is the foremost warrior from his own realm, capable of wielding a greatsword single-handed. He is gifted with the ability to use the magic of his home realm, but he is not skilled in the art and does not often rely on it.
Biography: Drachen was once one of six "Spirit Riders" who protected and ruled over humanity in the realm known as Valonca. When a devastating flood threatened Valonca, Drachen organized an evacuation effort to spare as many of his people from the deluge as he could. Now he and his people seek to establish a new home in the Mistborne Isles.

Along the northernmost reaches of the coast is a boulder-stricken beach, barren and bleak. The northwestern corner of the island, where the Mist's sovereignty ends and the mainland of the Mistborne Isles begins, is perhaps the most inhospitable. Civilization in this waste seems untenable at best, and impossible at worst, yet one small community calls this beach home. They are a hardy people used to rockbound terrain, though also unused to a maritime way of life. Here at Tailing Strand they have learned to call the coast their home.
Though their home it may be, Tailing Strand is still an untamed realm. Many dangers on land and in the sea make life here a perilous one, and it takes all the residents' wits, courage, and strength to settle this land.

Drachen grunted as he hauled the stern of his vessel clear out of the water, beaching it completely. He stepped back, exhausted, and took a moment to survey the land around him as he regained his breath. The beach was littered with rocks, mostly hand-sized, though a fair few grew larger. Just barely visible through the Mist to the west, he saw craggy hills that slowly gave way to their larger cousins as his eyes traveled south. Though a fair few had vegetation, it was clear that the terrain was very similar to his old home. To the east, very close to him, he saw the beginnings of a forest set before some small mountains, or perhaps very large hills. The south seemed a desolate waste, barely hosting grasses, let alone forests or fauna. Nonetheless, inland was probably his best chance at finding a place for his people to establish camp. He turned back to his people, who had finished bringing all the boats to shore and were now beginning to offload their possessions.
"When everyone is ready, we're going to move south. I don't know where we are, but the mountains and rocks remind me of home. It's possible that if we go south far enough, we'll even run into home."
A group of refugees approached Drachen, carrying what little they had. "Milord, if it pleases you, we actually want to stay here by the boats."
"Why's that?" he asked. "Afraid to walk on solid ground again?"
The group's spokesman looked aside. "Ah, no, lord. What we were thinking is, we know we've got no homes to go back to, even if the water's gone down again. Watched 'em fall apart in the waves. But if you's walking inland all this way, you maybe don't want to carry all the ships with you until you've found a plot to settle down, an' in the meantime we can stay here in case anyone else washes up. We can send 'em your way an' maybe..." he chuckled. "Maybe we can set up a fishin' port here, eh, milord?"
Drachen looked back over the beach and the mist-covered waves. "I'm not very convinced there good fishing out here on this, uh, strand of tailings, but if you insist, maybe you can make good use of the boats. There's wood enough nearby to make yourselves some shelter, I suppose. Best pray there's good fishing too, because the Master knows there's not good farmland that I see. It's noble of you to volunteer to guide others south, though. When we've set up a settlement, or hopefully found our homes, we'll send for you again so you know where we are."
"Thank you, milord. Master guide you to wherever you're going."
With little more preparation, Drachen set off with the bulk of the refugees to find suitable living space in the south. The twenty-odd who stayed behind took up their axes and rope to fell trees for constructing their new homes on the coast, and later perhaps a dock.
