Faisine could row no more. She had escaped the mist some time ago and rowed herself along, not even knowing which direction she was going. Tears sprung to her eyes, for surely she would join her mate in the afterlife soon enough the way things were going. Her hand went to her flat belly, wishing he'd given her a babe but knowing that it was for the best that she wasn't with child. Not like this anyhow.
The former spell-song sat up and peered over the edge of the boat and wondered if she could swim to shore... but that would mean leaving what little she owned behind and she was just so tired. She peered into the water for a time as the boat drifted toward the shore, still somewhat distant. She had to close her eyes again, licking her parched lips with a dry tongue.
Fai lay back and surrendered to the exhaustion, and the boat would be gently pushed with the waves. That is until a massive one hit the boat and sent it careening forward. Wood splintered and the boat was overtaken! Fai was jerked from sleep when she fell into the deep blue.
She went down, down, down into the depths, and then, not ready to die, she kicked for her dear life. When she broke surface what seemed like an eternity later, she sputtered and gasped for air. She struggled to stay afloat, for her arms were just do damned tired. She could feel herself losing her grip on reality... Her eyes drooped closed and her body floated upward... only, she was facing down. She sputtered once more as salt water filled her lungs, and started to go down again. Only this time, her kicking was a struggle. She didn't want to die! No! With a final surge of strength, she kicked and kicked, until she broke surface again. Water came spewing from her lips as she choked on it. She sobbed and tilted her head back, gasping in the sweet air. She soon moved onto her back as best as she could.
Breathing heavily, she closed her eyes one more time... and then the world truly went black. Thus, she floated in the water, being pushed toward shore.
