Age: Too old for any shenanigans.
Appearance: In her natural shape, Va'nei is a large green dragon that is seemingly covered with moss and grass. But since the Flood, she has been contained to her human form, and is currently stuck in it. She is roughly five and a half feet tall, with light green hair that falls past her hips, and pale skin that bears a faint green iridescent scale pattern. Her eyes are a vivid shade of gold and hold great intelligence and wisdom due to her long years of life. She wears intricate robes of green and a feathered and beaded headband inlaid with a red gem.
--------------------------
Equipment: Equipment is for humans.
--------------------------
Skills and Abilities: As the Earthwarden, Va'nei is very closely tied to the earth. Even with the magic dampening effects of the mist on the isles, she can feel the "emotions" of plants, and create and control them to a degree, as well as communicate with animals. Her ability to move the earth has been greatly weakened, but still remains. Even in her human shape, she has the keen senses of a dragon, with a powerful sense of smell, excellent hearing, and sharp eyesight.
--------------------------
Biography: (For a full accounting of Va'nei's past, please see her website, linked in my profile/signature.)
Va'nei was born long ago, seemingly a normal dragon like any other. But through a series of events, she became the Earthwarden, guardian of the earth and the natural cycle of life. She's had many adventures, and met many people.

"I have some skill in sensing them myself.. or I did. I don't know if I could even do it like this."
She gestured to her humanoid form with a small grimace of distaste. She hated being confined to her skin. She wanted to spread her wings and take to the skies again. But it was starting to look like that would never happen. So she would simply trust in Patriarch, for now, and hope he could find a ley line. If it ran aground, and he could point her to it, she should be able to trace it from there. Theoretically. And then if they could trace it to a convergence of ley lines... Well, then they might have their solution.
While he waded out into the water, she began digging around in the muck that surrounded her, until she managed to get her hand on a crayfish. She plucked it up, bit off the head with a crunch, then began pulling the meat out of the shell. That was one good thing about her humanoid shape, her appetite wasn't nearly as prodigious as it was when she was a dragon. A few more should satisfy her hunger.

Age: A few hundred years or so.
Appearance: Patriarch is a sea elf, the last of his kind, or he was in the old world. While he looks youthful he carries an ancient soul that has known countless tragedies. Where in some this might have bred cynicism in Patriarch it bred compassion and kindness. After losing so much he decided to dedicate himself to helping others as much as he could. This eventually led to him becoming an Egg Bearer or in his case more of an Egg Protector. Dedicating himself to protecting and guiding the youth of the younger races of Fishfolk, steering them away from the path that led to the doom of his race.
----------------------------------------------
Skills and Abilities: Sea elves are exceptionally long-lived, possessed the innate magical talent to manipulate water, could breathe on land or sea, and were quite harder as they can survive at the depths of the ocean.
In the new world, Patriarch has found that his ability to manipulate water drastically reduced and he can no longer perform auguries or scry. A learned specialty from when he used to be an advisor to the king of the sea elves. But he remains hale and hearty as ever or so he thinks, he does sense some change within himself. Like the water in the vast sea of years he had before him was dwindling to more of a puddle.

"Then hopefully between the two of us we can find some sort of answer."
He said before he slipped into the water, quickly vanishing into the depths. He could still move through the water with impressive speed, heading down and out until the sun vanished from above. Once he drifted in the abyss he closed his eyes and drifted stretching out his senses. The memory of his true form resurfaced and for a very brief moment he thought if he opened his eyes he would be himself again for the first time in far too long.
"Something is clouding the leylines." He said as he emerged from the depths a little less than an hour after he left. "I can sense one but it's like it's light is dimmed by a fog. I think following it can be done but I do not think it will be easy."

Va'nei had contented herself with digging up and eating some of the marine life around the cypress roots, and by the time he returned, he'd find a wasteland of empty shells belonging to crayfish, mussels, clams, and oysters in the area around the dragoness, who now seemed a bit more at ease since her belly was full. His words dispelled some of that ease, however, and she cupped her chin in one hand, rubbing her jaw thoughtfully with her thumb as her brow furrowed.
"Perhaps if we found a way to combine our ability to sense them, we might have more success in tracing it to a junction. But in all my time as Earthwarden, I've never encountered a being anywhere near as ancient as myself. I'm not sure how we would achieve such a thing."
She looked down at her free hand, and then over at him, her gaze obviously on his own hand. Surely it couldn't be as simple as skin-to-skin contact and combining their sensory capacity? Even if it was, the thought made her.. uncomfortable. She didn't much like touching other living beings, and especially not while in her humanoid form.

"I am afraid I don't have much insight into that. My kind lived solitary lives, even with how vast the ocean is the whale population would struggle to sustain two leviathans too close together."
He said with a wane chuckle, they had other means of sustaining themselves but he could remember how satisfying it was to hunt a whale and devour it. He hadn't thought about his true form this much in ages, Va'nei was part of it but it was also the realization that he would almost certainly never take it again. For so long it had been an option he'd never taken but it had been one. The realization hat it was truly lost to him saddened him.

"Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained."
She nodded firmly, satisfied with her own conclusion, then approached him and extended her hand.
"May I?"
Assuming he agreed, she'd take his hand in hers, and close her eyes. Many of her dragon senses remained to her, and with her eyes closed, she could feel things to a greater degree. This included the innate sense of the ley lines, so inherent to the earth, that she had long taken for granted. She took deep breaths to center herself and focus on the nearest one, which was a fair distance away, and hope that her sense would blend with that of Patriarch. If it worked, they'd be able to sense the ley line with much greater efficiency, and hopefully trace it to a junction. What they'd find there was another matter entirely, and they'd cross that bridge when, or if, they came to it.

Patriarch stared at her hand for several long moments. "I suppose?" He sounded mystified because he was but he figured out what she wanted and proffered his hand to her. He could feel her reaching out through their physical connection and understood what she was after. It took him a moment to figure out how to reciprocate, this was new to him but he was old in his understanding of magic so it wasn't hard to deduce. He summed up his memories of the sea and let them flow into her connection with the Earth as they listened to the heartbeat of the world.

With Patriarch's extrasensory perception blending with her own, it was easier to sense the ley lines. Not easy, exactly, but not quite so difficult. Whatever was suppressing the magic of this place, it didn't want to make their task uncomplicated. Her brow furrowed as she mentally traced the ley line as far as she could, and saw where it met with another.. a far distance away. Many dozens of miles. She could even sense the land around it, and knew what she would be looking for. With the course mapped in her mind, she opened her eyes and released his hand, turning a concerned golden gaze on him.
"It will be a very long trip, quite far from the sea. I can go alone, if it would be too difficult for you."
He deserved a chance to live, but she wouldn't ask him to suffer just for this.

"Hrmmmm."
He sounded softly, letting her know he had heard what she'd said but that he didn't have an answer for her. He had lived a very long time, through most of his life the longest he'd ever spent above the waves was only a handful of days. He had been able to sense the leyline through their connection, he couldn't say for certain how long he would have to be on dryland to get there but certainly longer than he had ever been.
"I would need to tell people that I am going. But I think I would like to. In the best-case scenario, I help you find a way for both of us to live. At the worst, I will have done something new before I die and I think that is a good thing.
Patriarch finally decided. He'd lived a long life, he had seen and done much but he had also fallen into routines quite frequently. This was the chance for one last adventure before he died, that appealed to him after so long being a peaceful caretaker. Not that he had any regrets about his role but he was not immune to the occasional desire to go out and do something new even if he'd often ignored it.

She looked decidedly worried at the prospect of him dying. Despite having just met this male, she felt a strong connection to him. Likely because of how ancient, and alone, they both were. She'd lost contact with the other elemental Wardens long before the Cataclysm, and now she was truly alone. Except for Patriarch. Perhaps it was foolish of her to cling to the possibility of saving him, but she was determined, for his sake as well as her own.
"Very well. You tend to your affairs, and I'll wait for you here. When you return, we'll depart."
She nodded firmly at her own words, then waded out of the water, rubbing her legs dry with a couple of fistfuls of grass before putting her boots back on. Then she perched on a rock beside the grove to wait for him.

"I will return as soon as I am able."
He said before he turned back toward the water and vanished beneath the waves. This would not be the first time he'd left the Sea Folk, but it was going to be the first time in a while. It pleased him knowing that they would be able to do just fine without him, they had come a long way from when he'd first started to dwell with them. Though recent events did worry him slightly he didn't think anything would happen while he was gone.
It would not be until the next morning he returned to the grove. He had a pack slung around his shoulder, it had some rations inside of it alongside some odds and ends. "I am sorry I took so long, I had some affairs to put in order." He said once he spotted Va'Nei.

Va'nei had bedded down in the grass for the night. It wasn't the first time she'd done so, and undoubtedly wouldn't be the last, even if it did feel a bit odd in her human shape. Still, she was well-rested and energized when Patriarch returned, and she assessed him thoughtfully for a few moments. She could forage for plants, assuming this land wasn't filled with odd flora she couldn't identify, so she could keep herself fed during their journey. Rising from her resting place, she dusted off her clothing and nodded.
"No need for apologies. Let's be off, shall we?"
And with that, their quest began.

"We shall."
He agreed, seeing no reason not to get moving. They would be able to hug the coast for a time but he knew they would eventually need to turn in land. He leaned on his trident as he walked, wondering how he would handle it in his current condition. So far, he was fine moving through air was vastly easier on the body than water but it wasn't what he was native to so who knew the toll it might take.
