Age: Too old for any shenanigans.
Appearance: In her natural shape, Va'nei is a large green dragon that is seemingly covered with moss and grass. But since the Flood, she has been contained to her human form, and is currently stuck in it. She is roughly five and a half feet tall, with light green hair that falls past her hips, and pale skin that bears a faint green iridescent scale pattern. Her eyes are a vivid shade of gold and hold great intelligence and wisdom due to her long years of life. She wears intricate robes of green and a feathered and beaded headband inlaid with a red gem.

Skills and Abilities: As the Earthwarden, Va'nei is very closely tied to the earth. Even with the magic dampening effects of the mist on the isles, she can feel the "emotions" of plants, and create and control them to a degree, as well as communicate with animals. Her ability to move the earth has been greatly weakened, but still remains. Even in her human shape, she has the keen senses of a dragon, with a powerful sense of smell, excellent hearing, and sharp eyesight.

Va'nei had wandered a bit further down the coast in the company of Patriarch, explaining to him what, exactly, the Earthwarden was. What she'd done in times past, and what that might mean for her going forward. The.. energy suppressing her magic, as she didn't know what else to call it, made her feel.. weak, even as she moved into the grove of trees that went right up to the water's edge. The roots were immersed in the water, seemingly at home in the salty ocean, and she removed her boots so that she could go wading in among them. This was partially out of consideration for her more aquatically inclined companion, and also because it would make it much easier for her to feel things she could eat with her bare feet.
"So now I'm not at all sure what to do. I've never been in this form for so long before. Things are.. dulled. I miss my wings, and how am I supposed to tend the Earth without my powers?"
She didn't say as much out loud, but it was obvious that the dragoness didn't know what to do with herself in this new place, with no clear role defined.

Age: A few hundred years or so.
Appearance: Patriarch is a sea elf, the last of his kind, or he was in the old world. While he looks youthful he carries an ancient soul that has known countless tragedies. Where in some this might have bred cynicism in Patriarch it bred compassion and kindness. After losing so much he decided to dedicate himself to helping others as much as he could. This eventually led to him becoming an Egg Bearer or in his case more of an Egg Protector. Dedicating himself to protecting and guiding the youth of the younger races of Fishfolk, steering them away from the path that led to the doom of his race.
----------------------------------------------
Skills and Abilities: Sea elves are exceptionally long-lived, possessed the innate magical talent to manipulate water, could breathe on land or sea, and were quite harder as they can survive at the depths of the ocean.
In the new world, Patriarch has found that his ability to manipulate water drastically reduced and he can no longer perform auguries or scry. A learned specialty from when he used to be an advisor to the king of the sea elves. But he remains hale and hearty as ever or so he thinks, he does sense some change within himself. Like the water in the vast sea of years he had before him was dwindling to more of a puddle.

He proved to be an attentive audience, asking the occasional question as she explained a bit about who she was. The question she ended on was probably meant to be somewhat rhetorical. At least, he assumed that she didn't expect him to have a cut and dry answer for her because he certainly didn't but he did have thoughts.
"I don't know, I suppose my question is does not being able to take your true form remove your ability to tend to the Earth? Or simply limit the scope of it?"
Patriarch said as he looked around the grove, he didn't have any shoes to begin with and he moved his toes in the wet soil.

"I.. have no idea. I've never had reason to test whether or not my abilities work in this shape. I'm not certain I'd even know how to attempt such a thing."
It was an excellent question, and one that left her decidedly befuddled. In her true shape, of course, all she'd had to do was breathe, and life sprung up in the wake of her breath. How was she supposed to translate that to this.. clumsy bipedal shape she'd been confined to? Her brow furrowing in thought, she approached a tree, and laid her hand flat against its bark. She could, dimly, sense the life force within it. But how to reach out and affect it? She focused, trying to draw upon the well of power within her, and force it through her skin, into the tree.
Something inside her twisted, ached, and she hissed in pain as the tips of her fingers began to turn brittle and hard, like.. stone? No.. they looked like wood. Petrified wood. She yanked her hand back from the tree, relinquishing her grasp on the muffled well of power inside her, and looked at her fingertips in dismay as the effect slowly began to fade. What in the name of the Earth..?

His trident dug into the ground and he leaned on it as he observed her. He felt stiff, that was nothing new, but the feeling was always more pronounced on dry land. There was nothing he could do about it, indeed, he almost welcomed it. He was old, and the fact he was finally starting to feel like it just seemed fitting with the death of the old world, the fact he lived to help the sea folk find purchase in a new world was worth the discomfort.
"Are you alright?"
He asked her, he'd seen what happened, and his eyesight was still fine for the moment. But she was still adapting to be stuck in her current form and if she wanted to not acknowledge a potential weakness he'd let her do so.

"I..."
Va'nei was nothing if not a realist. She wasn't one to deny facts. Patriarch was close enough to her that he would've easily seen what had happened, and she wasn't in the habit of lying, either. Whether to someone else, or to herself. Clutching her hand to her chest, she turned to face him with an expression that was a blend of confused, concerned, and vulnerable, the latter of which was decidedly jarring given the obvious ancient knowledge contained in her gleaming golden eyes.
"..I tried to press my power into the tree, and when I did.. my hand.. it started to turn into.. petrified wood."
She didn't understand why that happened. Was it an effect of the magic dampening properties of this land? If so, why? Had it happened to other beings like her? Were there painfully lifelike statues of dragons, or other creatures, dotting this island? The thought was.. horrific.

"I see."
He said with a grimace of sympathy as he let out a sigh. He searched about and found a rock large enough for him to sit upon. He shifted his foot into his lap and removed one of his sandals.
"I did not know if it would happen to you or that trying to draw upon your power would cause such a reaction. I have scant reason lately to use my own beyond simple tasks."
He showed her the bottom of his foot, the skin was a light shade of blue than the rest of his skin except at one spot near the middle. A thumb sized disc of pale white marred the bottom of his foot, it didn't move or reflect light like the skin around it, it looked like exposed bone.
"The magic of this place is reserved, it doesn't flow freely. I fear that these lands cannot support creatures such as you and I for very long."
He slipped his sandal back on as he let his words sink in.

She watched Patriarch curiously as he moved about, her brow furrowing in puzzlement as he removed his sandal and.. showed her the bottom of his foot? She leaned forward a bit to get a slightly better look at what he was showing her, and as she saw the spot on his skin that almost looked like exposed bone, she wondered if perhaps it was simply a bad wound that had never healed properly. But given the context of his words...
Her mind ticked through possibilities. He was a magical creature like her, to some degree, and apparently using his abilities caused him to.. petrify? No, that couldn't be right. He smelled of the sea, and what happened to things in the sea when they died? Most dissolved, some became coated in salt, but many.. calcified. Was that a patch of calcified skin? Was he going to turn to a statue of.. something akin to dead coral? She straightened, pressing her palms together and laying the side of her index fingers against her mouth, as she stared at him in silence for several long moments, before finally speaking quietly.
"I have so many questions."

"I understand why you would."
He said with a nod of his head, not particularly surprised that was her response. He imagined she would have some question about who he was and wouldn't that be novel for the old elf? The sea folk rarely asked he had raised so many of them that he faded into the background at times. They were a direct people they had defined him as they had come to see him and over the years he'd embraced that role so utterly he sometimes forgot who he truly was. That had been one of the greatest sources of comfort at the end of a very long and lonely life.
"I will answer what I can, where would you like to start?"

"If it's not too intrusive, could we perhaps start with what, exactly, you are? You're clearly no regular Sea Elf. You smell.. ancient, and like.. I can't describe it. It reminds me of deep, dark places."
Like the bottom of the sea, maybe? Was he some sort of sea dragon? She plopped down onto some of the upward arching roots of a tree, placing her elbows on her knees and looking at him intently as she leaned forward.
"And let's move on to, if this place doesn't have enough magic to sustain beings like us, what are we going to do about it?"
Because she'd be damned if she just stood by and let herself turn into a damn petrified wood statue. She was a fighter, always had been, and she wouldn't bend to such a fate. Nor would she let a similar fate befall Patriarch. She didn't know what he was, not yet, but he was like her. That was enough to make her determined to save him, too.

"My kind had many names, most of them given by other races. Not all of those names were given to just us, my kind have been called dragons by some. Sea Serpent, Kraken, I think the one that fits best is Leviathan."
He said, mostly because it was the one that was very rarely used for other races. The small races had trouble differentiating between massive creatures if they had more than a handful of things in common. In his true form he was massive, hundreds of meters long covered in thick scales able to smash a galleon to smithereens with a flick of his tail. Startling fast and maneuverable as well thanks to several sets of flippers on his form. He could still remember what he looked like, though he could barely remember what it felt like to take it, he hadn't in centuries.
"As for what we are going to do about it. I haven't given it much thought. There was pressing work to do to ensure the survival of the Sea Folk and that has been my priority. Things have been settling down so I've been thinking of looking into it. But I'm also old enough and I've seen so much that I find I am not so bothered by the idea."
He admitted with a slight shrug of his shoulders. "But that was only when it was my choice alone to bear. I'll lend you what help I can in finding a way to stop this." He assured her with a soft smile. She could benefit from his help and that was what he did, help others.

There was a flicker of surprise across her face as he revealed what he was. A Leviathan. She'd heard of the massive sea-dwelling dragon cousins, but never thought to meet one. Especially not when disguising themselves as a Sea Elf and.. well she wasn't entirely sure what he was doing with them, but that was another question she had to ask.
"How did you come to be residing with the.. ah, Sea Folk, as you call them?"
His next answer made her recoil slightly. He wasn't bothered by the idea of slowly calcifying until he died?? She couldn't fathom such a thing. She might be ancient, but she had no desire to meet her end just yet. She didn't say anything on the subject, however, since he agreed to help her find a solution. She eyed him thoughtfully, wondering where to begin.
"I assume it would be safe to say you can't venture far from the water for very long? These Sea Folk of yours, do they have any knowledge on this land that I could access?"
Some kind of library would be ideal.. if she could read the language. If not.. well, she'd figure it out.

"That is a very long story and not one I would relish telling. But the bones of it are this, I believe I am the last of my kind. Many of us were slaughtered by Sea Elves, I decided to take what I thought was righteous vengeance upon them. It took me many years but I was successful, I knew I would be before it happened and I'd come to regret what I could no longer stop. When it was done, I floated in a sea of blood with nothing but my remorse. The Sea Folk had been indirectly hurt by my vengeance and I decided to live among them as a sort penitence I suppose, dedicating myself to trying to help them not make the same mistakes I had."
He'd kept the story as brief as he could but it had still been a lot to go over. As he always did when he thought on it, he felt the shame and the guilt. He'd been young, filled with a potent wroth, and so certain that he was doing the ocean a favor. Only the bottom feeders benefited from a war though, everything else in the waters was put in danger.
"I can stay on land for as long as I like in this form. It gets painful if I start to dry out but that's about it. As for knowledge, no, we are just as knew to these lands as you are."
This was said with a slight grimace, there was unfortunately no easy answers to their current conundrum. Nobody knew much of anything about these lands so far as he was aware.

Va'nei Dha'zhi

Roleplay posts: 27
Age: Too old for any shenanigans.
Appearance: In her natural shape, Va'nei is a large green dragon that is seemingly covered with moss and grass. But since the Flood, she has been contained to her human form, and is currently stuck in it. She is roughly five and a half feet tall, with light green hair that falls past her hips, and pale skin that bears a faint green iridescent scale pattern. Her eyes are a vivid shade of gold and hold great intelligence and wisdom due to her long years of life. She wears intricate robes of green and a feathered and beaded headband inlaid with a red gem.
--------------------------
Equipment: Equipment is for humans.
--------------------------
Skills and Abilities: As the Earthwarden, Va'nei is very closely tied to the earth.
--------------------------
Biography: (For a full accounting of Va'nei's past, please see her website, linked in my profile/signature.)
Va'nei was born long ago, seemingly a normal dragon like any other. But through a series of events, she became the Earthwarden, guardian of the earth and the natural cycle of life. She's had many adventures, and met many people.
Allegiances: The Earth
Place of Residence: To be decided.

His tale wasn't a happy one, and Va'nei wore an expression of sympathy as he laid it out for her. This was one reason why she'd never attempted to hold allegiance to any person or group, having only her dedication to the Earth as her driving force. Living beings were messy, even the ones who espoused a peaceful existence, and there was always the chance for things to turn violent. She didn't want to be involved in anything like that.
"I am sorry.. but thank you for sharing your story with me."
Hearing that he and the Sea Folk were just as new to this land as she was made her frown, although she was somewhat mollified by learning that he could venture away from the sea for a time. Cupping her chin in her hands, she tapped her fingertips thoughtfully against her cheeks as she considered her options. There was really only one she could think of, but it wasn't going to be fun.
"There must be something in this land that will provide a means of recovery. Perhaps some sort of font of energies or something. We'll simply have to find it, and.. make a bargain."
Because there was always a bargain where magical sources were involved.

Patriarch
Established
Roleplay posts: 49

"My life is not one that other people need to apologize for. But I appreciate your sympathy and I was glad to tell you my story. What was the point of any of it if I do not share from my mistakes so others might learn?"
He said with a wane smile, not that he thought she was in any need of the wisdom from his tales. But he never knew what might help someone and all the people who might have sought him out for vengeance were either dead or entirely justified in doing so. As she explained her point of view he nodded his head.
"A sound assumption. My kind usually followed the paths of ley lines, it's been sometime since I've done so but I could try and see if I can feel one out."
Literal millennia actually, at this point he'd spent more of his life as a sea elf than a leviathan. But he could feel his true self in the deepest parts of his being and he pushed to his feet. If he was to have any success he'd need to be submerged, which he informed her of as he moved toward the beach.
