Ambience
Somewhere on the outskirts of the village, further into the woods, was a place that had just been completed and waiting for occupants. It stood on a small island in one of the inlets toward the north of the village, surrounded by forest and water, it is a calm and tranquil sanctuary. There was a bed frame made from timber, the mattress pad consisting of soft pelts and the feathers of the animals they raised for food, creating a suitable bed to sleep in. The kitchen was outfitted with a few necessities. Thanks to the smithy having been built, there were some pots and pans, and there was a set of wooden dishes, though only enough to feed two if they washed between every meal. The tools were not fancy but they were useful. Everyone had some of these things in the village to start with, the rest of the outfitting of their home was up to them.

Moir had directed some strapping bodies to carry the sick woman out of the infirmary area. She knew of just the spot and they would first be taken to the inlet by cart, which took them only a half an hour or so. Then they would be taken to the place they would call home. They would be transferred into a long canoe like boat, that familiar craft one would see traversing the waterways of the Usque. It would take another half an hour to reach their destination. After helping to put Caria in her bed, they would pull him outside if they allowed him to. "We've got some things we can leave with you tonight, and more will be sent in the morning. But in case we don't, there is enough to stretch for at least two to three days. It's a very busy time as you know it. Anyhow, it's up to you to make this your home. Moir picked this place for you. She said the fresh air and solitude would do you both some good. I hope it's just what the lass needs. Poor child." And then he too related the same story as someone who was also on the craft that carried Caria with them. "I am beginning to think the way of the island is starting to become clear to me. You would swear that you are speaking to the same person, but then... something is different about them and you're reminded that things are different here. The man she was married to had your face and the same look in his eyes toward her that you seem to have. She mourned that person and almost gave in to the grip of the Mist. I helped to wrap you in linen and helped to place you in the water, that is what she understands at this point. She doesn't understand you're not the same person she married. But yet... you know her somehow. There is a connection despite whatever happened to... cause this anomaly." He paused and looked toward the house with a soft gaze. With that, he waved. "I'll answer any questions tomorrow if we're able to make it back with more supplies." And soon, they were off to get the supplies out of the boat. There was a sack of ingredients to make food, as well as some other things that were more convenient. There was a small amount of pantry typed items, things that were there to help. He would find the following items: A crock of goat's milk A crock of butter Cheese of various types Dried fish flakes in a waxed fabric wrap Dried Venison, Dried Beef Jerky There was a soft bundle in which six eggs were Flour that was a dark brown in color Root veggies from the garden such as onions Yeast A couple of jugs of wine made from the berries of the trees in the forest. Dried Fruit Various herbs and spices
Obviously there was more than enough, just in case. (Feel free to add any other ingredients) She stayed asleep through the morning and into the afternoon. He'd obviously have time to do things to set up to his liking. Of course, they had afforded him the opportunity to gather his belongings before they left, so he would have those things to move about to his liking. Her belongings had been gathered as well, though they were few. Her fox friend was curled up against her belly, and he might now notice if he took the time to study her that indeed, she was identical to the person he met right down to every freckle. And her belly was slightly rounded. She wore a ring still on her finger, a matching, bigger ring nestled within the confines of her neckline that shifted out as she moved around. Caria slowly opened her eyes as she was curled up on her side with her companion.

Age: 21
Appearance: Shay is a man of average height, but he has a toned exterior from years of rigorous training and campaigning. He has fair skin, although his face has been kissed by the sun. His often-scruffy beard is brown like an oak, with eyes as blue as a clear sky. Due to his training, Shay's eyes sometimes glow with magic.
Equipment: Shay wears light armor, traveling boots, and a hood. He also carries with him a bow, a quiver of arrows, a set of javelins, a small shield, and a shortsword.
Aside from those items he also carries a number of pendants and other talismans that help him use magic.
Skills and Abilities: Shay is an excellent light-infantryman who uses his lightning-fast speed and attacks to fight in rough terrain, including forests, hills, mountains, and swamps. He is also a great horseman.
Shay was trained as a Night-Walker, a sect of Usquean warriors that practice 'moon magic'. Moon magic involves spells of mischief and trickery, alteration and illusion. At night they are most effective, even more so during a full moon. Additionally he can commune with fallen spirits.
Biography: Shay's mother died in childbirth and his father was killed in battle. He was orphaned and lost whatever birthrights he might have had. He fell into a group of mischievous troublemakers as a kid. Once he was caught and was given the choice of imprisonment, banishment, or serving with the kerns. He chose the latter, opting to protect the Usque against invaders, bandits, and wild beasts.
During his initial training his talents were recognized by the Night-Walkers, who inducted him into their ranks. He learned discipline, honor, and respect while serving with the group.
When he first joined the Night-Walkers he met KIMMIE. After mustering the courage to speak to her the two began to spend time together and they developed strong feelings for each other. They had many happy years together, training in their respective orders.
Over time, however, a rift began to form. The Night-Walkers and the fae did not get along, for one. Differences in the direction both groups wanted the Usque to go in drove a wedge between them. Campaigns away from each other caused their love to wilt. Finally, their overseers were hesitant to let them see each other. Eventually the happy relationship turned sour and they split.

Ralf bid Moir and the strongmen farewell, thanking them for all of their help. He had kept a watchful eye on his beloved during the trip by cart and boat. He longed to look her in the eyes again, and wanted desperately to do everything he could to heal her. But he knew he had to be patient; if she needed time to heal, then she needed time to heal - and he would give her that.
Shay sat by Caria's side for a time, stroking her red hair and her freckled cheeks. He then ran his hand over her belly, as if to caress the child within. He then offered the fox a playful petting, smiling as he did so. When it became clear she still needed some rest he got up and organized his few belongings. There was a sort of storage room nearby where he stashed his weapons and other accoutrements; they would not be needed here, and he wanted such vile things hidden from view when Caria woke up. He then found a simple ax and decided to split some firewood for the better part of the afternoon. He made a generous pile and, tired from his labor, took some into the home when he went to rest.
He relaxed in a simple wooden chair within the kitchen, looking around at the goods that Moir's helpers had provided them. He wasn't much a cook - as the Night-Walkers only lived frugally and ate simply. There was a little hearth in the corner of the kitchen where a fire could be lit; the smoke would exit through a chimney. He took some firewood, placed it in the hearth, and then placed some kindling beneath it. He went to work trying to light the kindling until he managed to get a small fire started. He worked at it, adding fuel little by little, until the larger pieces caught. In a short while he tended a decent fire.
He took a metal rod and stuck some of the dried venison on it, then found a way to keep it over the fire. He rotated it as needed and cooked it thoroughly. The smell of roasted venison wafted through the home. It was more than enough to feed himself, with a generous amount left for Caria should she wake.
While it was cooking he looked around the kitchen for the jugs of wine.

Her eyes shifted about the unfamiliar room, and then the smell of food hit her, particularly the dried meats and she stumbled out of the bed, looking around frantically for the door before running out and emptying the contents of her stomach. She did not know yet that she was pregnant, but that certainly caused her to think about it. She rinsed her mouth after she was sure it was over, and she shuddered as she sat there.
She then pushed herself up and looked around in confusion. It was a lovely, quiet area. She turned back and moved inside, then her gaze caught sight of him and she had to rub her eyes. She'd watched him die, how was he standing there? "Shay?" she asked, her voice gruff from her getting sick.
There was so much to be confused about and this was the main thing. She could not help but to move to him and touch his face. Of course, her fingers were tentative as she traced a fingertip along his face if he didn't stop her. Then her eyes filled with tears.
"You look so much like him... But you can't be him... Can you?"

Shay had dropped his guard while in the home. It was secluded, in the presence of allies, and it was only himself, Caria, and the fox. He had picked up a jug of wine from the cabinet and was pulling it out as Caria come into the room. "Shay?" he heard her voice. Startled, he nearly dropped the jug - but caught it in the air; his reflexes as a Night-Walker were sharp.
"Caria!" he exclaimed. "I'm so happy you're awake!" He quickly discarded the wine onto the nearby counter and made his way to her. He took her in his arms, maybe squeezing her a bit too tight. "It's me, it's me! I promise, it's me!" He knew she was confused. He was confused too. But they would both get through this - somehow. "I know you're scared, I know. I don't know..." he wasn't even sure how to explain it, or address it. "We'll get through this. We'll get through this."
By now the venison was almost finished roasting. "Oh," he said, having forgotten about the food, "the venison! Come, come, sit. I made some roast." He rubbed the back of his neck embarrassingly; he wish he knew how to fix her a proper meal. "I uh... it's all I could fix. Having always been on the Path, and all. Night-Walkers only eat for sustenance, not for pleasure," he laughed.

She didn't move at first as his arms wrapped around him. His scent was the same, so she closed her eyes after a few moments and then hugged him as tightly as the frailty of her current state of being would let her. When she pulled back, she looked at his face. She looked pretty well like she had gone through the wringer. Moir had informed him during the trip that she would be in bad shape for some time, for she had nearly perished within the mist herself. Her hand reached out and touched, her thumb grazing along his cheek.
"How are you real?" she asked softly, a tear slowly moving down the right cheek to suspend itself at her chin. She wanted it to be him but... how could he be? She knew her husband had died back there in the beast that was the mist. "I've wanted the bad dream to end but how can it have happened, I saw you... I saw you slip away. I..." she paused and then pulled away, not knowing how to feel about him holding her from beyond the grave. He was a ghost yet she could feel the warmth of his skin.
Sabi skittered over and curled herself about the woman's feet, whining as a small vixen would. Caria picked the fox up and received a bunch of snuggles as if to help calm her. It worked. She did, however, have to sit sown, her knees were starting to shake with the effort of standing.

Shay tried to think of an explanation, but nothing came to mind. "I... I don't know." He felt defeated; was that all he could offer his love in this confusing time? "But I know I love you," he said to her. "I know that we were meant to be together. And Fate knows it too; Fate brought us together, even in death."
Shay turned to look at the hearth. He had to remove the venison soon or it would burn and ruin. He moved to the hearth and took the venison away, placing it on a wooden tray. He would then search for a knife to start cutting pieces from it.
"Perhaps I lost Caria... my Caria... from my world. And you lost your Shay. But Fate... Fate is giving us both a second chance in this world - this new world. I have you, and you have me." He took one of the strips of venison and dangled it near Sabi to see if she wanted a bite. "You're every bit the Caria I remember. But I know I may not be the Shay you remember... the Shay you lost." He put the knife down, frowned, and shrugged, "it's me; it's Shay, Caria. I will show you all the love you expect."

She bit her lip and her eyes sort of got a little more wet than they already were. "You smell just the same... and you sound the same... and..." she paused and could not help but to want to touch him again, but she had sat on the bench that was close to the hearth, her legs were still trembling. She felt so tired and very sick. Sabi sniffed at the offering and then took it with one of the noises foxes tended to make when happy. She moved to lay at Caria's feet as she chewed her food. Caria, herself, was trying not to think about the aroma. She'd been sick to her stomach for some time, not even knowing she was pregnant and that the mist had not only done something to her but the baby as well.
Her eyes looked down at her hands and she went on, "I don't know how to feel. I saw my Shay die, I watched him draw his last breath and all of us in the boat took care of him before we put him in the sea. It doesn't make sense. None of it. We'd only just married before the flood took the Usque. We didn't..." she stopped with a catch in her breath, "We didn't get to make a family or a home, and the Mist overcame him. I wanted to let it overcome me too so I could be with him."

Shay took Caria's hands in his own. "We are one in the same," he said, implying that he was same Shay as the one that died. "My love for you has not changed. And we can still raise a family..." one hand moved to her belly. He wasn't sure how to feel about her pregnancy. In a way, it was his child... but also, it was not. He knew he would try to consummate their relationship tonight. "We have a home," he told her, "a home for you, me, Sabi, and our child." Shay did not know she was oblivious to her pregnancy, but he had picked up she was with child from Moir and her belly.

"Our... child?" she asked. She didn't know yet, she'd been out of it for so long she hadn't known about it and Moir hadn't told her. "I'm..." She said this faintly and looked down at their hands in a dazed way until one of his cupped her somewhat rounded stomach. Her knees buckled and she fell into him, hardly daring to believe Shay was alive, that there was a child... But something was wrong... Something was off... What was it? Her eyes gazed into his, wide and afraid, trying to figure out the next things she needed to do. A baby... She looked down and realized that her belly had actually been like this since her version of her husband was no longer there, but not bigger like it should be if she had been in the village for almost a month now. "Shay, something isn't right... I should be feeling the child kick by now if I am pregnant, we were at sea long enough to have gotten that far in."
