The tide pool is at a northwestern point of Trinity Island, not far from the village. This was where the best fishing seemed to be, so this is where the people come to catch them.

Uma was silent in her thoughts, glad for the time alone. The others had left some time ago, taking the full baskets of fish to be taken care of. She listened to the sound of the ocean and the wind, glad to be facing a point that did not seem heavy with mist in the distance. Her mind was tranquil as she sat upon a rock overlooking the spot where her net was. She was not in a hurry to haul it in. The fisherwoman seemed, for all intents and purposes, like she was in a world of her own.
It had been an interesting year or so since they had come to stay where they were now. Things seemed to be doing better now that things had been built and there were more folks trickling in from the Mist, sometimes one or two at a time, sometimes whole, larger groups. It depended. And the odd thing was, some of them seemed to describe their stories differently, as if they came from a future tense or something. The world here was rather interesting, to say the least.

A creature bounced along the rocks with unnatural alacrity. It made little noise, its paws finding perfect footholds with every stride.
*Pant pant pant pant pant*
...
SPLASH!!
Uma would find her net ambushed by a large canine, a wolf-like creature not quite native to the Usquean lands.
"Halte! Halte!"
A young man followed his trail. He wore rough grey cloth like burlap and had furs around his neck. He seemed ill-adapted to the moderate climate of the isles. But he moved with equal grace and speed along the rocky shore.
Rakki's people were attempting to find a suitable shore from which they could begin constructing a port, but they had no intention of conquering already taken lands. Several scouts had been sent to ascertain the lay of the land. Rakki, in particular, was tasked with finding the song of the land, and the nature of its spirits.
... He sort of doubted that the beautiful fisherwoman was a landvaettir made flesh, but then again he didn't know what to expect in this strange new world. The last song of the mists had come with a warning from the spirits that this land was full of surprises. And the woman did seem vaguely elven and inhuman.
Once he was close enough to get a handle on his wet and flailing companion, he directed his attention to Uma.
"You uh, you are not goddess or nature spirit, correct?" He asked with a deadpan expression and heavy, but intelligible accent.

Uma, thoroughly caught off guard by the beast, sort of leapt out of her skin in the proverbial sense. She was too late to save the catch. She would have to stay longer, which she didn't mind, but how much longer? She then looked to the man in the interesting clothes with a heavy accent she couldn't understand very well, she sort of eyed him warily. She picked up her spear and then stood tall and serious faced, digging the blunt end into the earth but not brandishing. She was, after all, used to new folks arriving and protocol was to remain calm unless they gave reason to attack.
"I am no nature spirit," she said, her voice as musical in quality as the Usqueans were, silken and soft, but commanding enough to hold attention. Her purple gaze was rooted to him, hair caught by the wind enough to blow across her face, some of it having long escaped the loose braid that hung down her back. She wore something more suitable to the weather. Her form was covered in a gauzy fabric, though not so much as to be too revealing. It was a shorter, toga like garment, belted at the waist with a crisscross sort of belt, something made to hold her tools for her when she was walking to and from. The skirt of the garment stopped about mid-thigh so she would not get tangled within the nets and the lines with a skirt. She was toned of figure but curved in a youthful way that might indicate the fact she was not yet a mother.
She then flushed when she realized that he was probably making a jest. It took a minute to register the deadpan.

"Ah."
Well that certainly made sense.
In a bit to repair the damage his companion had caused, he tapped the canine on the head and held out his palm. The dog let go of a fish, and he held the flopping creature in his hand, giving it a quick once over. Without a second thought, he tossed the silvery catch (which had bite marks in it) back into Uma's net.
"Fisk." He pointed at his friend with a proud grin. Fisk shook himself dry, spraying them both with water.
No doubt if the spirits of the land were stronger, they'd be screaming in Rakki's ear that this was one of the most awkward first contacts his people had ever engaged in. Rakki had spent time with the more seasoned Jarls as was custom of his station, but he hadn't picked up very many tricks when it came to the art of discourse.
He back away a bit and looked down at a nearby tide pool, quickly identifying an edible clam. He reached down and plucked it out of the water like an egret and tossed it into Uma's net.
"I am Hoegar Rakki. Eygor Mjok clan. We too survived the end of all things. We too are witnesses." He pranced around the rocks, again with startling agility, and found another edible clam, which he tossed into Uma's net. "We are eyelash of Varan. Part of whole. We seek lands upon which to build."
Despite his uncouth demeanor, his every movement upon the rocks was flawless. His heavy furs, which were no doubt heavy as laden sacks with moisture, didn't seem to slow him down in the slightest, hinting at remarkable strength. His golden hair occasionally caught the sun, shining like brass.
An octopus flew into the net from his hands. "I possess the gift of edda. I speak with the spirits, but the spirits here are weak. Ragnarok has broken the magic, has it not?"
Meanwhile, Fisk had gotten the hint rather quickly and had dived into the nearby waters, pulling out a flounder, which he excitedly brought to Uma as well. But Fisk at least had the sense to ask for permission, the dog peering up at Uma with expectant grey eyes.

"I see," she said, watching him warily. She knew the queen to be off on a small journey, but wondered if perhaps there could be opportunity to work with others. Uma, having been close to Tana for the duration of their stay on Trinity Island, knew that such a time was needed in order to prosper if more people were coming. She pondered for a long time, and then said, "I am Uma. I come from the Usque along with some others, we've settled on this island but I think there is space for another group of people on the southern part. The queen has taken a small journey and is not here for the moment, but I would be happy to introduce you to her. You aren't among those who would eat people, are you?" She had jokes too.
She watched in bewilderment then as the dog started bringing her fish, as did the man. She'd never been flirted with so she wasn't even sure what that was. She did have eyes, however, to see that he was easy to look at. That was why she kept blushing, right? Ugh, she could feel the heat in her cheeks as she gazed at the man through lowered lashes. He looked strong and his skin looked as though he spent a lot of time in the sun. She moved to pull in the net then, trying to look at things besides him. Staring was rude, after all.
It took little time at all for her to detangle the net, and the few fish that remained went into the basket on the other side of the rock.
"I... thank you," she said as to the fish they both brought her.

"Ah, no. In desperate times we sooner eat fermented poison shark."
He wasn't joking, but Uma would have no way of knowing that.
Varan, even those of more ancient stock like the Eygor Mjok, were a down-to-earth and practical people. Honor and survival came first, to the point where in Rakki it manifested as a childlike servitude towards what needed to be done, such as make sure Uma was adequately stocked with octopi.
So it had taken this long for Rakki to notice the change in demeanor in Uma. Her blushing red cheeks frightened him in a way he couldn't explain. Even more strangely, it wasn't an unpleasant fright.
"You... are most welcome." He quickly looked her up and down and then averted his gaze. "Yes, we negotiate with your people. We are... uh, people of peace when it is just. Only war when needed."
The perceptive Fisk leaped up and tugged at Rakki's furs. Something clicked.
"Has the water made you cold?" He removed his furs and offered to place them around Uma's smaller frame. If she took them she'd find that neither he, nor the furs, smelled foul as would be expected, but instead had a clean scent a bit like fresh tea. (Varan, despite occasionally rough lifestyles, were quite good about hygiene.)

She blinked a few times as he draped his garment about her shoulders. Whether it was to cover up her garb or to warm her up, she wasn't actually sure. She wasn't cold. In fact, it was a somewhat warm day. While it wasn't hot, it was warm enough to warrant wearing the garb she wore, and... well.. it was nothing anyone else cared about. She frowned at him in confusion. She supposed this was a gesture of chivalry on his part, still. Her eyes soon danced with a thought. "Oh, oh, thank you. My hero." She said, and it was her time to deadpan.
"I don't know what I would do without your act of kindness. Why, I'd LOVE to marry you. This is the BEST offer I've had!" it took every ounce of training within her, her discipline, not to laugh. She was not serious, but she wanted to see his reaction and which way he would take what he just said. For extra measure, she gave a sigh, did that thing women did where they danced with their shoulders moving so she rotated some at the waist to and fro, hands clasped n front of her.
She had to admit though, he did smell good. Damn, did he smell good? She soon kind of ducked her head so she could think about that, no longer playing around. Her stomach clenched for some reason and she felt like maybe she shouldn't have teased him like she did.

A mild panic rose in Rakki. Before Ragnarok, the Varan were traders who oversaw vast networks which connected many strange and wonderful peoples. It was not entirely implausible that handing a woman fur was a sign of marriage proposal in their culture.
The Jarls had always warned him about getting too close to women too quickly, so he couldn't imagine what they would say to this!
"Ah, ah, uh, you, uh-" Heavily accented things which were not quite words sputtered out.
But then his eyes dropped down and saw that Fisk was panting gleefully. For some reason this was the sign that alerted him that Uma was speaking in jest.
And he lowered his head in shame and began to laugh, a deep, masculine tone, but still stunted by youth.
"Assuredly, real wedding dress much easier to dance in." He grinned.
(His teeth were also surprisingly intact.)

When he laughed, she lost her will to hold back and gave a lovely, melodic sounding laugh, her eyes dancing with mirth. "Your face," she said and laughed harder. She hadn't expected him to have a nice laugh, but he did, and indeed, the intact teeth added to the charm. "I don't know about that. I doubt marriage is something that will happen in the near future for me. I have much too much to do. Why... you're looking at it." She chuckled as she gestured to the net that was finally emptied of fish. "I don't wish to come off as ungrateful for your warmth, but it's a fine day outside and much to warm for me to be able to make it back to the village without overheating. I do thank you though," she pulled it off and offered it back to him, then burst out into more laughs. She did kind of regret offering it back, but she really didn't want to deal with heat stroke.

Rakki took back the furs and held them for a bit, as if only now realizing how much more comfortable he was without them. Still chuckling a little bit, he said, "Ah, indeed, there is no rush. Much rebuilding to do. Marriage, something savored."
Pleasant and comfortable weather indeed. Considering that the air and sea were often something to be endured and conquered, this was a rather nice change of pace. In the old world of Aesgir, Rakki had not had much chance to travel further south into the lands of dreams.
Without really thinking, he began tying the furs into a makeshift sort of sack to be worn on his back. As he did, he seemed to enter a slight trance, staring off into the coast.
"An amber sheen among the rocks, exposed by years of tumbling. A treasure worth a thousand locks,
And yet..."
He looked to Uma's eyes again; his own sparkled just barely perceptibly.
"The sunrise was always watching."
Hmm. Not bad.
"May accompany you back to your village? Or aid your tasks? So long as I learn the lay of the land, the jarls should not judge me for... what is word, gallivanting, with foreign woman."
Fisk meanwhile had gotten a little distracted and seemed to have taken an interest in another nearby octopus.

Uma sat to put on her foot gear, which were some hide boots. After she put her feet in, she put the net with the pile of empty baskets that they left for anyone who wanted to fish. Then she nodded to the basket with the octopi in hopes he would carry it. After all, it wasn't every day that she got to take a break from carrying things and toiling away. Assuming he joined her, she would start leading him southeasterly but wasn't in a hurry to get back. After all, she was sure someone would need her help. While she was happy to do it, it was also nice to have some time of quiet.
She was quiet, unsure of what to say to him as they walked over the rocky beach toward a path leading into a small section of forest.
There was a certain grace to her movements and she had the build of someone who swam quite often, her arms particularly strong which was necessary to haul in the heavy nets. The breeze kept pulling strands of hair out of the loose braid, but she didn't seem to notice. She flipped it over her shoulder to pull some of the heat off of the back of her neck.
He could probably smell her scent if he was close enough to do so. She had the scent of sunlight that only came with line drying clothes, some kind of flowery and some kind of spicy, subtle scent as well. There too was the faint scent of the ocean.

Rakki took the basket without any hesitation. In fact, he decided to secure it into his makeshift fur backpack, which unfortunately meant it would no longer smell like tea at their journey's end. Such were the sacrifices one made for one's honor.
He of course followed Uma into the forest. Not only was Uma very beautiful, but to find one who knew the land and walk with her so soon was privilege. He tried not to let her athletic build (or scent) distract him from his duty. Although the scent itself did provide clues about the plant life that thrived in these lands.
He hadn't spent much time in temperate forests. The greater prevalence of green grasses and moss was as impressive to him as a field of wildflowers might be to Uma. He and the few surviving eddics would be blessed to meditate here and discover the songs of the land. "Beautiful," He remarked at some rather plain ferns they past by.
And yet, he surmised by Uma's wary posture (and her spear) that these lands were far from all blessings. In fact, he wished to ask Uma about the darkness that he sensed when he approached. But he wasn't sure he wanted to spoil the peaceful mood.
Fisk did not have nearly so many thoughts in his head. He quite liked Uma (and her scent) and followed her closely, panting happily. He liked their hew home as well, though it was a bit warm. Perhaps his master would need to give him a bit of a hair trim.

He was probably in for a surprise by the time they would reach the village proper, which was a long hike from where she'd been fishing. There was enough foot traffic after over a year of being on the island that it would easily lead the way. She paused here and there upon sight of medicinal herbs and flowers that she noticed along the way, so of course, she would gather them along with any other edibles, those were put into the pouch she carried on her person. She had graceful movements as they walked, not tarrying to long in one spot but not rushing them either.
Every now and then, she would glance over to him and observe him. She wasn't sure about his scent, but she was sure he was handsome and would probably like to see the women of the village, for most were beauties for a reason (as they had descended from fae), she was not one of the most beautiful though, at least not in her eyes. She felt rather plain next to one of the healers that had arrived maybe seven months prior, who turned out to be the descendant of Camilla and Evrand of the previous world, so she inherited her great-grandmother's beauty.
Uma didn't know he admired her, however, though she had a feeling the canine did.
At some point, he spoke of the beauty. "Yes, it is beautiful... but you should have seen the Usque, which was in another world. If I had to describe it... It was so enchanted as to be breathtaking. The sun always shone golden rays when it was sunny, and the rains were always warm. I miss the ancient ruins and the caves there." She smiled a little, though it was sad. "It hasn't been easy here... The dynamic of this world is vastly different and magic is harder to use, so we've had to fight for everything from the start of us being here. I've been here since the first group of us arrived, before the Queen became pregnant and had the princess." She tucked a rather pretty looking flower into her hair as the Usquean women seemed to like doing.
Since he was close enough, he might even be able to tell that the fabric of her dress was something of good quality. It wasn't so gauzy as to be see-through in the places that needed covering the most, but it did allow for seeing the shadow of her legs underneath the lining hem. Her legs in particular looked toned from many miles of walking, and her arms from hauling nets and baskets of fish.
At some point, there was a clearing in the woods where she would move to take a rest in. There was a fire pit set up for people to use, and she needed to sit down for a time. "If you don't mind sitting for a little while, I could answer questions for you if you'd like. The village is still another half hour away, so we won't need to worry about getting there after dark. I am hungry and I wouldn't mind cooking up one of the bigger fish to share with you and your dog."

"Perhaps this world is still young, and does not know how to be beautiful yet." Without a frame of reference, Rakki thought Uma was perfect the way she was: beautiful, but also strong and competent. Aside from her oddly fae-like features, she would have been right at home among the Eygor Mjok. "My world was, a bit colder," he said. "Skies often dark, and the ocean alive with black waves and fish, and monsters. Some you could eat! Oh but there were treasures as well. Beautiful green plains hidden between dark valleys, rare, vibrant, and medicinal flowers which triumphed against the bitter rocks. Iron and silver and... history. Like in your land, there many ruins in Asgeir, with rune stones and intricate carvings. We took pride in the men who came before us." Now that he thought about it, he could read the tragedy of the broken magic in the story which Uma's body told. She was strong, yes, but there was also something... noble about her, as if she was made for a more benevolent land. "My people's bodies do not... mix... with magic well. We ask the landvaettir to give us their blessing to wield power. Some Varan have... more detailed magic. Runes, enchantments. We have chants. We seek out the songs of the land and they give us power. But even this is more difficult in these lands. If I discover more of the song of the land, I will teach you... uh, I mean your people, uh I mean, if, if we become allies of course." He blushed a little and chuckled. He was perhaps a bit too enthusiastic about giving up such a commodity to Uma. No, he must be practical and remember the well-being of his own people. Trade relations depended on establishing mutual trust and respect. Maybe I am not ready to be a Jarl yet.He (and Fisk) accepted Uma's invitation humbly. "Yes, yes, of course!" To be continued here...
