Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

Under the guidance of Elder Moir and Duen, Jun helped the Usqueans set up a clam garden.
The garden works by using a rock wall to trap sediment and rocks onto a section of the beach and allow finer soils to be washed away. This creates an excellent habitat for clams, snails, mussels, and other tasty sea creatures. As the Usqueans insist on living in tune with nature, a structure like this is both incredibly practical and spiritually significant.
Every day on the way to Avalux's ship, Jun makes sure to pile up at least a few rocks using what little earth magic she possesses. It turns out the "instant latrine" technique is incredibly useful for tossing boulders around. Jun also increased the size and scope of the clam garden while researching her "familiar booster" runes with Avalux. She used magically empowered animals to move rocks around, and having those animals be more effective was excellent motivation, as her research progress was tied to the Usquean's food supply.
(When empowered, a coconut crab can easily pick up a large boulder. Mr. Frog mostly just tackles them into position.)
Anyone is welcome to dig up a handful of clams for themselves during low tide. It's not much, but it may save you from starvation on a bad day. Be warned, the rocks are slippery if you go for critters on the other side of the wall.

When he first heard this was a thing, Asadrack got really excited, in his world clams were a rare commodity that only the most powerful people ever saw in their life, he immediately went there as soon as he could, imagining what would be the taste.
He had a hook attached to his prosthetic to carry a basket around as he, due to inexperience, awkwardly got some clams whistling the same tune that he used to out his daughter to bed with.
"Dang !" He exclaimed out loud, he wasn't the best if cooks, in fact he had recently improved his cooking from awful to eatable, and had no idea how one would properly prepare clams, "Maybe Tana can help me." The thought of spending some quality time with Tana Brought a wide smile to his face. He continued being distracted by the clams and the thoughts of Tana inside his head.

Luckily Asadrack's self appointed big sister was nearby.
And she had an enormous backpack with her.
Jun was about to go on a long trip in a few days, and as a result she was desperate to try to get through a whole list of projects. She wasn't leaving yet, but rather her backpack was stuffed with things she wanted to work on before she left: scrolls, plant samples, rocks, and dried clams. Yes, she hadn't given up on her food preservation tests either.
She hobbled towards the clam garden, breathing heavily. She had successfully convinced herself that lugging the giant backpack was a form of training, but really she was just being silly. Her legs were just about to give out when she spotted Asadrack.
"Hey, Asa!" She called out to him. "How are yo-"
And then she fell backwards. Luckily the sand and her backpack cushioned her fall.

Asadrack looked over his shoulder just to witness Jun falling, he immediately rushed over to see if she was okay, he almost fell himself on the way over to her when he tripped in one of the rocks.
"That looks a bit too big, do you need any help, I had some free time and so I decided to come here, these things are very rare where I came from." He put the basket down and assisted Jun on getting back up, "what are you up too that requires such large and heavy backpavk anyway ? Like I said I have some free time and I'll be glad to help you."

Jun did the smart thing and left her backpack behind as she took Asa's hand.
"Ugh, thanks." She put her hand on her hips and gave a satisfied huff, relieved to finally be at the beach. "Ugh, well, you don't haaaave to help me but-"
She opened the bag.
"I'm gonna be going on a trip soon and there's a bunch of stuff I wanna work on before I go."
She started pulling a bunch of doodads out of the bag. Some things wouldn't make much sense to Asadrack, but others would be recognizable, like seeds. The heaviest thing were definitely collections of stones with runes carved into them.
She looked over as Asadrack's basket and smiled. "You know what goes really great with those?"
Digging through her pile, she found a little jar with a pale, sweet smelling substance inside of it. She held it up to him in the sun so he could get a better look.
"The Usqueans are getting better at making it." It was butter.

"You can cuss around me. I do it all the fucking time."
Jun grinned and then grimaced and shook her head. "No, no I don't. I'm lying. I just wanted to make that joke. In fact, I kinda know how you feel. Avalux comes from a world were women are... a bit more reserved. Not that I feel oppressed or anything. It's just that I made him faint one time when-"
She paused and looked down at her pile of stuff. "That story's not important. Anyways, yes, butter. Let me help you get a fire going."
As they got ready to cook the clams, Jun would continue to talk. "Well, I just found out some old friends are alive, and I wanna go see them for myself. Actually, if it goes well, the Usqueans may be getting some new friends too."
Jun lit some kindle and made a fire the old fashioned way, without magic. She could have used some if she wanted to, but rubbing the dowel against the plank was good training for her fingers, is what she told herself.
"Before I go, I wanna set up a few more, uh, what did Avalux call them, healing stations. These rocks, if you line them up right, can help you heal minor injuries. I wanna set up more of them around the island. So I'm gonna use these as a template and carve more out of some of the beach rocks. If you want you can help me. It'll help you train up your art skills and teach you a bit about rune magic."

"I know you don't care, I doubt many do but if I cuss when I'm not near my daughter I will end up doing it in front of her just because of the habit." Asa chuckled, he founded funny, Jun wasn't too different from the woman back at his world, except for the magic.
After some time and a fire was lit Asadrack Heard Jun talk about his friends supposedly being alive, he was extremely happy for her but for a split second he remembered his mates, his father and wished it was he could miraculously find them. As fast as this sentiment came, it went away, he let Jun know how happy he was for her.
"Magic huh ? I'm not sure if it's even possible for me to use magic, I have a few theories in that actually, I guess that would be a great chance to test them. You see, magic wasn't a thing where I come from, my theories are that, we never figured out how to use it, if tmit was a thing it was a secret or we it's impossible for us... Me, to use magic. I'm down, I'm specially interested in anything that is healing related.

"Huh. Yah, that's true huh? Your world didn't have much magic at all, did it?"
After speaking with Arianne, Lizard Girl, Avalux, and a few other survivors, Jun realized something. Magic seemed to be more dependent on the worlds one came from rather than the individuals themselves, though she wasn't entirely sure. More than once she wondered what her life would be like if she had been born in a world with no magic. Her personality might have lead her to be devoted to something entirely different, perhaps not even combat related. Would she have tried to become the world's best baker?
With Asadrack's words, a new thought occurred to her. Conversely, could there be people in worlds with very little magic where, had they been born in a world with lots of it, would have been considered gifted? It would have been funny if Asadrack had the potential to be an arch mage and didn't even know it.
Hmm, questions for later.
"Well, I hate to bring him up again, I know it gets old, but Avalux is fantastic with runes and he doesn't have a spark at all. So I can definitely show you. Here."
She took her engraved rocks and started to align them in different patterns. In the middle of each pattern she placed a small seed, which glowed with little cyan blue capillaries across its surface. The varying sequences created different results related to medicine. One of them made the rocks glow and give off heat, accelerating tissue regeneration. Or they could become deathly chilly, stopping bleeding. Sometimes they would seem electrified, killing infections.
"These are mana seeds by the way. They power the runes. I can also teach you how to make those, but it takes a while for someone with no spark, maybe an hour or so. I can do it in a few minutes. If you want I can teach you to make them too."
The process for making them was simple and about what one would expect. Place the seed inside of a special runic circle drawn in the dirt, and focus.

Asadrack couldn't help to get a little hopeful know that Avalux was great with runes even though he didn't had what Jun called amthe spark but he made sure to keep his expectations low.
He watched attentively as she made the patterns, he made sure not to miss any details too, it would be Valery clear to Jun how much magic fascinated the man.
"Jun, I'd like to learn everything you can teach me, every detail you can give me on it will be appreciated, so hmmm, show né something simple first and i'll try to replicate it." He had a the usual smile as he said those words
He had a few reasons to learn magic, specially healing magic, he wanted to be able to help the people there just like they helped him, he wanted to make sure that, in case something happened, he could do more than just fight and he also wanted to impress Tana. The usquean people finally brought real happiness to his life and he would make sure they were safe and this would be a massive help if it worked.

Jun smiled, a natural response. But then she remembered something, a flashback.
Tana showed very similar determination.
"Ok." She pulled out a seed, place it on the ground, and drew a few runes around it in the sand.
"The first thing you have to know about magic is that there are two main approaches to learning it. One is based on structure, and the other is based on intuition." She drew a symbol on her left side, a sort of pyramid made of straight lines stacked on top of each other. "When you focus on structure, you focus on numbers. How much mana do you need to produce this effect or that effect? How does the mana move around? What shape does it need to take? How can I use mana more efficiently? This is the realm of wizards and scholars. Avalux excels at this approach."
Jun then drew a second symbol to her right side, a flame made of curves. "The intuitive approach focuses more on your willpower and emotions. You treat mana less as a resource and more so as a living thing, maybe even a friend. You resonate with it, harmonize with it. Your power comes from practical experience and your imagination. This is what sorceresses do and how my grandmother originally taught me. That said..."
Jun drew a new symbol, a circle divided by a line, and waving lines around it representing an aura. "You can also do both, with neither being better than the other. You can embrace their strengths and reduce their weaknesses."
Jun removed the seed from the first circle of runes she had created and placed it next to it, with some space in between.
"So first, copy the runes I made on this side. Draw a new circle around the seed. Then, close your eyes and concentrate on your heart. Try to feel your own spirit. Imagine it as something that can flow, like water or blood, that's bound to your imagination. Or imagine it as an ethereal plasmic energy source intrinsic to all living organism. Whichever makes more sense to you." She grinned playfully.
"In any case, once you have that image, hold out your hand, relax your muscles, and try to get it to flow out of your body and into the seed. If you have to, try to conceptualize the flow in different ways and see which way feels easiest to you."

Asa did as he asked, he artistic prowess made drawing runes quick and easy considering they were far more simple than what he is used to draw, he was also self aware enough to know that he was more emotional than logical and he tired feeling it more than quantifying it.
It took him a while before he felt he was ready to start and when he did nothing happened for even more time, in fact it had been way longer than what most people would need but he didn't lost faith and kept going, eventually he felt the energy coming from all around him, flowing through him and he managed to get a reaction, it was really, really week but he was definitely able to use magic.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 292

Jun watched patiently, perhaps more patiently than she had ever watched anything in her life before. Working with Avalux and his painfully slow methodologies did have its benefits after all. When Asadrack was done, Jun smiled.
"You have a strong spark. But your channeling is weak. Your body has trouble accepting it. The mana doesn't want to flow through even though it can. It's gonna take a lot of work to overcome it."
She rubbed her chin. "We might have to experiment a little bit. The Eygor Mjok have bodies that resist magic, so they have to channel it into their environment through their voice. They attune themselves to their environment with meditations and chants so that it works better. You could try a strategy like that. Believe it or not, my grandmother, who was even more powerful than I was, had a similar problem. She overcame it with a special harness that drew mana out for her torso and straight into her hands. I used to have one for myself but... it got destroyed in the floodwaters."
The sadness on her face would be obvious to Asadrack, but she'd shake it off.
"And if none of those things work, well, there's always good old fashioned perseverance. Just keep practicing. Maybe you haven't got the visualization quite right, or maybe your faith in your spark just isn't strong enough. Like I said, it's a long process."
Jun talked a lot. She knew it too, but some things just couldn't be helped.
"Do you have a favorite element by the way? Like, fire, water, earth, wind, lightning, light, darkness, or mind?"
