... Or well there will be. With cloth, rope and poles strewn about, the physical attempts to raise a functional tent have been fruitless. Where part of the cloth was propped up by two poles awkwardly leaning on a chest. Honestly a light breeze would make it fall over and ruin the petty amount of progress made.
Not that the proud Witch it belongs to accepted any of the help offered so far.
What did get set up was a small table with scales, bowls, a mortar and pestle, a wooden rack holding up a series of glass tubes, a stone burner with a small cast iron cauldron as well as a stack of smaller wooden boxes. Not exactly the best sight for a budding business, but hey, it's budding.

Belladonna had been given a tent to live in while houses were allegedly still in the planning/construction phase. All she had to do was assemble it, but that had been a skill that eluded her. While she was no stranger to manual labor, these types of tasks were usually delegated to someone else, or hired help while she focused on, what was in her eyes, more important duties. If all else had failed, she could simply weave a spell and it all should have propped itself up.
That was what she was trying to do now, actually. In spite of the oppressive atmosphere of the isles, the witch was in full concentration with her hands hovering just apart from each other. The moved in slow, circular motions around each other while she breathed in deeply and released it. Each time something in the empty center would spark in increasing intervals, mist gathered in it like a spherical cloud like a tiny thunderstorm, and once launched onto the idle tent... Nothing. At least at first. Gently the cloth began to rise like an invisible string pulling it upwards and upwards until, at least, the invisible string broke and it fell down in a lumped pile once more.
Belladonna inhale deeply, her lips pursed, and exhaled sharply. Whatever was on this island muting her magic, it needed to be found and destroyed. It had to be something tangible, it could not just simply be. Out of frustration she sat down on the chest she had floated in with and grinded her teeth at the mess she was supposed to call a home.

The late morning sun beat down on Khepri's wings and sizzled her skin, letting her know that it was high time she set her feet upon the earth. She cast her eyes toward the ground, searching for a spot to land. After a few moments, they locked onto a spot of white that was rising and falling intermittently. With her keen eyes, Khepri could make out a womanly figure in dark clothes with her hands extended towards... ah. She was having trouble with her tent!
Veering sharply to the right, the winged wonder made her way over to the damsel in distress. If only she'd known how wrong she was to think that.
Pursing her lips, Khepri gave a high whistle to alert the woman of her presence so she wouldn't startle her as she landed. Her wings, which were vast and wonderous, made a powerful wind that swirled all around them.
Sweeping her fingers through her hair, she flipped her bangs out of her face, then smiled.
"Need a hand? I also have a set of claws."

The sudden harsh gust of wind that accompanied Khepri's arrival caught Belladonna off guard. By then she was holding a pole and some of the rope destined to hold it all up together. The witch's dark hair, albeit short, had blown into her face over her eyes. once the wind dispersed, she blew upward to clear away an eye to give the strange bird-woman a tired glare for her troubles.
Belladonna redressed and fixed her hair with one hand this time. Now she could get a good look at the woman who offered help, visibly looking her up and down. If she had any particular opinion it didn't show on her face.
"You've set up a tent before?" The question was asked with an undertone of doubt. Afterwards, she'd had resumed trying to secure poles together manually this time. She was thankfully not a stranger to solid knots. "I don't know who sent you, but I'm fine. I don't need your pity."

Khepri could only snort at a reply like that. She sauntered over to the cantankerous croon. "Pity? Oh, no, no. Pity is for skamelars. You are more of a ronyon in so many ways. Regardless, it would be awful of me to fly by when an opportu- a stranger I have not met has made their way into camp. It is obvious: you are not one of the Pannoans. So who could you be?" She looked her up and down, a twinkle of knowing in her eyes, along with the bright yellows of noon. "As for me, I am Khepri. I doubt your ire was because of this, but I am no harpie. I am a duralam. Do not confuse us."
She was adamant about it.
"I did notice those funny little hand gestures you were making before the tent fell again. I imagine, perhaps... you are a mage?"

"I've no knowledge of these terms you are using, and so I cannot tell you if you are mistaken. You are correct, I am indeed not Pannoan, though by the looks of it, neither are you." Bella spoke while planting one of the tent poles in the ground so t could stand up on its own while she worked to try and solve the puzzle that was her living situation.
"My name is Belladonna. I'm not sure why anyone would mistake you for a harpie, if they have they clearly don't know harpies. They don't exactly have patient appetites." Thankfully as woman of worldly knowledge, the mistake could be avoided this once. "Was a mage. This land is absolutely suffocating and what I could do prior I no longer seem to be able to do. I used to have brooms who could do this for me and yet now nary one will come to life." the witch kicked an idle broom she had requested, causing it to fall over after a delay. "It's not all gone, I still feel it, but it certainly finds itself suppressed."
Bella glanced over to Khepri, her mood having not yet sweetened any. "Do you intend to stand there and mock my struggles? If so you are free to find entertainment elsewhere."

"Hmm. Perhaps the barrier in language has more gaps than I thought," mused Khepri briefly, tapping her chin. When Belladonna spoke about the clear difference between duralam and harpies, a smile spread on Khepri's face, stretching ear to ear. Finally, someone who understood! As cantankerous as she was, this woman was clearly one of class and intelligence.
"Merely making an observation, as you have. It all makes sense why this does not come to you as naturally as the rough, little, hardworking peoples... here, it can't be so difficult..." she mumbled, picking up the various poles and cloth. Thankfully, being a Kor'dura, she had a special knack for figuring out things like puzzles. It did not take her long to figure out that this piece needed to be in the ground and... ah! This piece stuck in the folds of the cloth like so!
And that's as far as she got before she made an "Aha! See?"

There was a pause of silence as Khepri was observed solving this riddle for the ages. It There would be no disruption nor input until the winged creature called for her to... apparently visualize the final product. While was was assembled looked correct, it was only *one* side of the tent. There were more sides to be constructed, Oh but she was so tired. The seething anger she'd found herself in since that morning had taken the wind out of her. Perhaps she could get away with delegating part of the task to a naïve soul. Perhaps this naïve soul.
Belladonna furrowed her brow in deep thought. "I'll admit, it's a better start than I was having, but... This has never been my strong suit. Could you show it to me again with other pieces?"

The woman tilted her head to the side with a smile and a pop of her right brow. "I do believe that I can!" she chirped, using the next few minutes, the sun hot on their backs, to show Belladonna how to put up the tent. Really! She did most of the work anyway... why would she have to show her if it was just going to be done before she needed it? Khepri kept this thought to herself, but let out a silent, half-amused laugh somewhere along the way.
Once they were done, the duralam found herself coated in a fine layer of sweat. She swept her cheeks of the moisture and hefted a sigh. "Just in time to take refuge. Do you happen to drink tea, much like the mother-warrior of this place? Zariya, I believe her name was. I might just invite myself in for some. A self-imposed 'thank you,' if you will."
She winked.
"What do you think?"

Belladonna hummed at the sight if the finished tent. *Now* it looked... Not like a home yet, but certainly a shelter. It surprisingly still wasn't the worst place she'd had the misfortune to lay her head under.
She stood from the seat she'd taken as Khepri either knowingly or unknowingly did all of the work for her, and stepped forward to stand besides the helpful stranger.
Said stranger invited herself for tea. Quite bold to assume she had any, but luckily for the winged woman, if there was anyone who'd have tea it would be an herbalist.
"I suppose good work should be rewarded. Step inside." The witch gestured Khepri to go inside, while Bella herself retrieved the less than meager chest she'd washed up with. The chest was heavy, but she was getting used to hauling it around behind her by now. Not doing so would feel incredibly light.
"I'd say have a seat, but the only seat I have is the chest. Let me retrieve the tea and you can sit on it as you please. At least today." She wasn't going to leave that invitation open for interpretation. She lugged the chest to one side of the tent and opened the chest. There were two metal cups, but neither matched. There was no black tea in her chest but she had herbs and roots to choose from. One such herb was some dried dandelion. That would have to serve its purpose.
Luckily, cooking implements had been given to her, so starting a kettle was made easier she stepped outside the tent long enough to throw more wood in her firepit and set the kettle to boil. She returned to the delicious shade of her tent and sat herself down on the floor. She didn't mind getting dirty as much as people thought she did, but she wasn't going to correct them either.
"I was surprised to find so many settled here already. Speaks to the stubbornness of man."

"I will need no such seat. It's a little hard on the tailfeathers anyway," jested Khepri, running a hand through the feathers on her rump with a chuckle. Instead, she sat onto the ground, leaning to one side on her thigh so that the delicate fibers would not be destroyed. Her long hair drooped onto the floor, but it was easily remedied by bringing it over her shoulder and onto her lap.
Khepri watched Belladonna for a moment at how she scrutinized the items within the chest, swiftly picked out what she wanted, and continued to make a fire with a kettle included. The duralam put a chin in her palm with a singsong whistle. "You know more than I thought. Here I saw some rich noble lady who didn't know a thing about doing something herself." She smirked in vindictiveness, but her eyes glazed over soon after.
"The stubbornness of man? Truly a sight. A shame; it seems the same could not be said for my own. I did not have any wishes for the Kor'dura to live, but any of the others... it seems it was too much to ask."
A strange tinge of tragedy to be brought up between strangers, and it seemed that, maybe, Khepri had been holding it in a while.

Belladonna flicked a glaring eye over at Khepri for her comment. "Business woman." She corrected that much at least. "My set of skills simply do not extend to building a tent as I had the privilege of magic to do so for me. Simpler times back then." She scoffed bitterly considering it had only been a few days ago from her perspective.
Bella listened to the feathered friend she invited into the new tent. "I've never heard of the Kor'dura. Are they much like the Duralam? It's odd that only one of you should have made it to this... humble new beginnings." Whatever she was on an island or a continental landmass had yet to be cleared up. "I say that knowing I've yet to so far recognize any faces. Worse yet, I don't remember the faces I am meant to recognize. Are you in a similar boat?" The witch glanced outside in the dull daylight outside the tent. She was looking for the familiar wisps of steam denoting the water having boiled and the tea being ready.
Tea was the last vestige of comfort she could offer both a guest and herself. A bit of guaranteed warmth even if she herself could only be distant and cold like a tundra's breeze.

Appearance: Smattered in golden feathers, Khepri glimmers from dawn to dusk. Vast, dark wings, lightening to ivory toward her spine, spread outward above her broad hips, supporting an otherwise petite frame. Black hair, straight as a waterfall, surrounds a round face. She has sharp, dangerous eyes that mimic the time of day, plump lips that tell you what you want to hear, and honey-sweet skin to ease her features. The only interruption to an otherwise heavenly visage is a pair of feet with toes and a heel ending in talons.

"My apologies, Business Woman," Khepri replied with a smirk and a glance at her nails. "Do I call you Lady, then? Lady Belladonna. A mouthful, but it does roll off the tongue." The winged woman was not a complete stranger to the ways of man, but she did find that titles were not consistent within their social circles.
When the conversation moved on, she pouted longingly into the flames. "The Kor'dura was my tribe. The duralam are my people." She rose a finger and traced the air. "As you would be human, as are most of the people here, and these humans would be called 'Pannoans.' There were other duralam, though I met few. There were the giants with the pale wings, all with a penchant for war and easily angered. Brutes, all of them. Once I met a small one, half my height, faster than a spark of lightning through the sky. I didn't get to speak to him, really. Too busy, couldn't sit still." She smirked, remembering the hum of his wings. It vanished when the witch spoke of forgetfulness.
"... no," she replied. "If only I could forget those faces and names. I would be much better off. Are you under a spell, perhaps?"

Belladonna Atropa
Established
Roleplay posts: 44
Appearance: Belladonna has Dark straight black hair that ends just passed her jaw, aside for a long braid. She has ivory skin, dark painted lips and heterochromia with her right eye being a medium grey and the left a deep blue.
There is no color on Belladonna's clothing. She tends to wear long corseted dresses that go from her neck down and leaves everything to the imagination while also not hiding away her charms. She also wears her black fur shawl in colder weather, but if the weather is particularly warm she might go without. Her shoes are calf-height sturdy low-heeled boots.
Equipment: Vials of poison
Small potions bottles
Spool of Red string
Dark red lip paint
Basket
Knife
wooden Staff
Herbology book
Tome of Curses and hexes
Skills and Abilities: Potions, poisons, medicine and drugs. Anything from curses to cures is where Belladonna's (Bella for the privileged few) expertise lies. With the right payment, no work is morally too low for her and no cause too great.
Chemistry: Allows her to isolate plant components and increase their potency on a rudimentary level, however consumes more resources and time to accomplish. Medicine of that caliber can also create highly corrosive or toxic fumes. Mistakes may cause fires or explosions of mundane of magical nature.
Arcane investigation: Bella is in tune with magic, but only senses it in form of intuition or "gut feeling", since her power and senses are muted on the isles. She is also knowledgeable in matters of the arcane and given enough time can decipher occult texts and inscriptions, at least based on her best guess of the meaning, depending how ancient it is and the context evidence is found in.
Ritual curses and Hexes:
All rituals require material and somatic components to work. Due to the influence of the Isles, all curses and hexes are channeled into an item that then needs to be placed on or around the target person. Typically they take form of letters tied with red string, wooden or straw idols or potions/food that need to be consumed by the target.
Arcane knowledge: What is a witch without knowledge on the basics and how to use them?
Biography: All she says is she doesn't remember where she came from, but some have doubts about that statement.

Belladonna closed her eyes and seemed to consider the idea of a spell, or rather, she glanced inwards. There a few seconds she was idle until those sharp but tired silvery revealed themselves again. "I don't believe so, no. If I were, I am sure I could sense such a thing. I've yet to get to the root of the issue, but I am not pressed for answers yet. First I must survive before I can look for truths- or hide them. Alas, if fate was fair, surely we would not have been forsaken by tide and hidden with mist in a strange new land."
She glanced over to Khepri, studying the bitter nonchalance in which she spoke of her tribe. "Its an oddity. I suppose its fitting enough to be considered an oddity since oddities court trouble to themselves, and with it pain takes root where love should have been nurtured. What bitterness have you tasted that you'd forsake even the memory of your own?"

Khepri had to hide her smile. To find another who had a way with words! It warmed her heart. All but Belladonna and Faisine had been dirty brutes thus far, even the pale fox woman who masqueraded herself as a dancer.
"Fate, you call it. I suppose that is as good an explanation as any," she replied. "Either fate, the gods... or the known worlds coming to their sanctified end. All the same. An end is an end, after all."
To the witch's question, she chuckled bitterly. "The bitterest of them. To seek justice only to be named a criminal. To be treated as important and irreplaceable... only to be thrown away like scraps of food. Not just by my people, mind you, but by the family I dedicated myself to! I have no sympathy to the Kor'dura. If truth is slander, then I shall sing heresy to the end of days. I suppose that is what I did." Her eyes rolled.
"What of you, witch? What little do you recall amidst the fog?"
