In the beginning only the two primordial forces existed: fire, ice, and the soils in between, each one within their respective dimensions. The fire was so hot and the ice so cold that one day, the two forces destroyed the spacetime between them, and when they met, they created the waters that flooded the soils. The soils opened, and from it, Yggdrasil was born.
Yggdrasil is the cosmic tree that connects the realms. Once it began to grow, each of its branches lifted the soils. With this, it lifted two primordial forces, one becoming Musphelheim, the realm of fire; and Nifheim, the realm of ice.
Atop Yggdrasil sat Asgard, where the first life came to be. Two Godlike Humanoids, Odin, the Allfather, and █████ Goddess of █████████ and █████, were born from the waters that filled the rivers of Asgard. The two quickly fell in love and █████ gave birth to Thor, God of thunder. Soon, the Realm was filled with other Godlike beings, either coming from the waters, or from the Odin and █████'s love.
On the top branches to the right, two twin realms emerged. Once connected, they became one by the name of Alfheim, and from it's waters the elves of Dark and Light emerged. In the beginning, the two elven races were friendly to each other, working in tandem, but their differences gave rise to a war, each fighting for the right to dominate their realm.. The Dark Elves were ruthless, eventually overpowering the Light Elves while their survivors hid.
Just under Alfheim was Svartalfheim. It's waters flowed inside caves, mountains, and narrow spaces. The constraints made life shorter, not in longevity, but height, and the Dwarves emerged. They lived in underground cities, creating legendary weapons for the gods and other beings. They refused to take part in the Elven war, concentrating their energy on making life easier for themselves. The products of their work were small, spider-like automatons that would transport ore, tools, building materials, and would sometimes patrol the tunnels.
On the top left branch of the Yggdrasil tree was Vanaheim, and from it's waters rose the Asier. These beings were as powerful as the Gods beings in Asgard, but they were far more understanding. Their relationship with Asgard was favorable, and both realms helped one another, eventually fostering Odin into a more benevolent God. Eir, goddess of mercy and healing, was the first to emerge. After her came the Valkyries. Unlike the Elves, the two realms managed to put their differences aside and work together.
Under Vanaheim was the realm of the giants, Jotunheim. There, life emerged from the enormous waterfalls that littered the land. The giants viewed the Gods as evil for not interfering with the elven wars that lead to the death of countless Light Elves. For it they decided to fight the Gods, but no giant was able to even pass through the Valkyries, and fled back to their realm. They formulated hundreds of plans, but failed time and time again before finally giving up. Eir convinced Odin not to exterminate the giants as █████ wanted them for their aggression.
On the lower left and right, the primordial fire and ice realms are located, forever leaking flames and ice on the lowest realm of all: Hel.
Hel is the realm of the lost souls, located on the lowest parts of Yggdrasil. All water was either frozen or evaporated before any life emerged. There, the greedy, the thieves, the liars and all the souls of evil mortals go to atone for their actions through pain and suffering. The souls go through the double of the pain they caused. Time in hell moved slower, making the punishment seem endless.
In the middle of Yggdrasil is Midgard, the only realm where no sapient life emerged from the waters. Meanwhile, in Asgard, Odin noticed that all the Gods magic were weakening, and decided to use his last bit of magic with a combination of the waters from all realms to create the Nordic people, placing them in Midgard. Slowly, the Nords started worshiping the Gods. Their prayers returned the Gods’ strength,, saving them from the giants that sought to take advantage of the weakened Gods. This time no mercy was given. In Midgard, the Nords started developing hatred towards one another, giving rise to many a war., While they knew about the suffering their souls would go through, they also knew that atoning was possible, and so evil began to spread. Odin, taking notice of the conflicts between his creations and of the most horrific crimes they committed against their own, cursed their blood so the most evil of men were destined to roam as the Draugar.
In the beginning, the Draugar were harmless yet terrifying undead. They rot, but never turn to bone. The people inside these undead bodies were aware but weren't able to take control, forever cursed to exist in pain, somewhere between life and death. █████ decided that this wasn't enough, that the living should suffer too, even after the Nords sought peace in their fright. █████ used her magic to give the Draugar control over their own bodies, and if they were determined enough, other gifts to help terrorise the living. Knowing Odin wouldn't like that her actions caused unnecessary suffering, she bound her magic to a gem and hid it where not even her husband could find it. Odin banished all knowledge of █████ from existence, even her name, cursing her to turn into a mortal, and threw her into the wet soils of the in-between, where she walked away from Yggdrasil and into nothingness.
