Aesa the One-Handed
Established
Roleplay posts: 13
Age: Mid-thirties
Appearance: Aesa is a tall, lithe, nordic woman with bright blue eyes and long, flowing blonde hair. She has a calm yet determined demeanor that speaks to her confidence and wisdom.
Equipment: Aesa carries Nifleyðir, or Mistbreaker, a legendary longsword obtained in Niflvellir. It has the appearance of a typical longsword, but the material seems to be stronger than steel and extremely light. A segment on the bottom of the hilt could fit a gemstone or similar item.
Skills and Abilities: Aesa was once Jarl of Valland. The experience forged her into a confident and formidable leader and she excels at leading others. She is also skilled with the sword and shield, a well-known shieldmaiden, and has an understanding of runic knowledge.
Biography: Long ago, in another world, Aesa Jojora was a shieldmaiden from Asgeir. She joined a contingent of Varan warriors destined for Gripclaw Pass. There she fought alongside various allies to delay the advance of Domrius. When the defense of the pass became futile the Varan stayed behind to buy their allies time - except Aesa, who was sent back to Asgeir to tell the story.
During the campaign Aesa fell in love with Volrun Valgard, heir to the throne of Valland. When arrived in Asgeir she discovered she was with child - Volrun's child - and thus carried Valland's heir.
Aesa struggled to convince Valland's clans of her position and status - assuming the role of jarlessa until her son could come of age. She faced great opposition, but overcame the struggles and ruled with determination. Ralf was raised to be a warrior and leader, but many doubted him and called him a bastard and pretender.
When Ralf came of age he traveled the world in search of wealth and glory, hoping to one day return home as a great hero after he had proven his worth. Aesa would rule Valland in Ralf's absence, but kept in touch with her son.
When the rains began to fall and the Mist began to set in Aesa rallied Valland's residents and directed them to the longboats. Those who managed to make it drifted through the Mists for what seemed like an eternity. Finally they arrived in Niflr, a shadowy realm that exists outside of the Mistbourne Isles.
While in Niflr Aesa and her survivors were subjected to a cruel game of the gods. The Varan learned of a fabled weapon in this realm of ruin, which intirgued Aesa, and the survivors embarked on a quest to retrieve it. After claiming the sword the gods of that realm deemed the Varan worthy and returned them to their 'prime', granting some of them their youth.
With newfound vitality, youth, and vigor, and with Mistbreaker in her possession, Aesa led the Varan and other allies in a twisted contest. After proving their worth the Varan were permitted to leave Niflr aboard their longships, finally arriving at the Mistbourne Isles.

After Asbera's scuffle with the Draugr near the cove, Aesa followed her to the Ironwolf settlement. Her Varan warriors, with the help of the Ironwolves, unloaded the longboats and transported everything to the settlement. The longships were secured along the beach and a token force was ordered to stand guard; they were to alert Aesa, Asbera, the other Varan, and Ironwolves if anyone tried to steal them.
If Asbera indicated a suitable spot for the Varan then they would set about pitching tents and simple shelters. Once that was accomplished they began to sort and organize their personal items. Meanwhile some elders consolidated various foodstuffs and other essential items so they could be rationed out.
"Thank you for taking us in, Asbera," Aesa would tell her new friend. "As promised, my men will keep their weapons sheathed and will not cause any trouble in the settlement. They will rest for the night and fill their bellies."

During the night, the people of the settlement came to welcome the newcomers, they brought some food and drinks intending to know the people that had just arrived, during this time, Freyr was nowhere to be seen and would only show himself the next day.
A few hours after morning came, the Jarl left his home, he had a wide smile on his face and it seemed like he had just taken a bath, Ásbera was the first to approach him, telling him everything that had happened the last day, his expression turned to an angry one, he sighed and approached Aesa.
"Welcome, I am Freyr Ironwolf, the Jarl of this place, it is an honor to meet you," he looked around, seeing how many people had came. "I hear you helped my Daughter yesterday, thank you, would you mind accompaning me to where the undead is being held, we can discuss ways to help each other on the way."

The Varan and the Ironwolves got along well. They shared a similar culture and enjoyed food and drink throughout the night, telling great stories of mythic heroes, legends, and battles. Aesa strolled through their little camp, listening in on the various tales. There was an interesting dynamic, she noticed; the Ironwolves had fought Draugr before, and it seemed to be the very same Draugr that Aesa and her kin had fought in Nilfr. Perhaps fate had brought these two people together to face a common foe. Aesa deemed it her duty to help these new allies defeat the Draugr.
When Aesa was content with the settlement of her kin she retreated to a private tent to catch some much-needed rest. She slept on her side, one hand clutching the hilt of Mistbreaker, the longsword she had acquired in Nilfr.
In the morning one of her hearthguards woke her up upon hearing of Freyr's approach. She readied herself as best she could; she still needed a bath, and her hair was not exactly in the best state, which she pulled into a ponytail.
"It is good to meet you, Freyr Ironwolf. I am Aesa Jojora, Jarl of Valland. Or... was Jarl of Valland. We lost our homes in the Flood. And aye, I met the good Ásbera yesterday. She is a strong young woman, fierce and defiant. You should be proud. I am thankful for her aid, for your aid, your people's aid. My clan was tired and weary, we all needed a good night's rest. Thanks to the Ironwolves, they got that rest, and some food and drink to boot."
Aesa agreed to go with Freyr where they could interrogate the Draugr. She brought Mistbreker with her, the longsword slung across her shoulder. "Indeed," she would say, following the jarl, "let us find ways."

Freyr walked in the direction where the undead was left, he was away from the village so it's smell wouldn't bother anyone, on the way there, a large man approached the two, Aesa would recognize him as one of the people that overlooked Ásbera on the previous day. He first hugged Freyr, then holding his shoulders The man said "It is good to know you are finally moving on my friend, I assume the one at your house is Varia, she's a good woman, just try to make less noise next time " the man gave Aesa a respectful bow and left.
Freyr's face was red for a second, he cleared his throat and said "I'm sorry for that, the man is named Baggi, he is a good friend of mine and a skilled wood worker," After walking a bit more he continued to speak "We will be more than happy to provide your people with anything else you might need it want, we can help you settle somewhere nearby or have you as part of our people, which one will be up to you of course, one more thing there is one tradition that we have to complete before we become true allies, we have to have a friendly hand to hand fight between us, it's important that my people know your strength and that yours knows mine, I hope you don't mind." It didn't took long for the smell of the Draugr to hit their nostrils after that

Definitely a wood worker, Aesa thought upon seeing the large Baggi. She wondered if the man was also one of Freyr's warriors, and how effective such a brute would be in battle. Perhaps she would get to see him fight one day.
"I am thankful for everything," she told Freyr. "It is a relief to find friends so quickly in this new world." Aesa was indeed grateful, as were the other Varan, but she didn't want to be dependent nor did she want to be a burden. "My people can take care of themselves," she assured Freyr. "We can fish, hunt, and forage for our own food. And we will collect our own materials to survive. But we are also more than happy to share, and to trade. Perhaps my people can settle within your own settlement? It will create a stronger bond, and encourage friendship amongst our people." Aesa wondered if the Varan and Ironwolves could come together in such a way that eventually there would be no distinction amongst the two people.
Aesa continued speaking: "we will collect only what we need, so as to not exhaust the land completely and hinder the development of your own people. And should your people need anything, I will make sure my Varan provide it."
The One-Handed was interested in Freyr's idea of a friendly hand-to-hand fight. "Aye, it would be a fun time," she replied, and then held up her stump. "But I have but one hand." She offered a playful frown and then started laughing.

"You and your people are more than welcome to stay an settled here, and for the fight in sure we can figure out some rules to keep it fair, it's mainly a formality but tradition is important, for now we have other business to attend."
With the approach of the two Jarl's, the undead shivered with fear and hate, the look it gave to the two people in front of him showed clearly how it felt about being tied up, the undead had his hands tied together, it was the same for his feet, a different rope bounded the Draugr to atree. Freyr began by freeing its torso, the thing fell on his face and the intention of speaking without giving the command to talk was met by a boot on his face, Freyr then used the rope to hang it by the arms on one of the branches.
"By the look in your eyes I can tell you remember me," he punched the undead with all his strength "I remember you and what you tried to do to my daughter." Freyr threw another punch "I wanna know where all the Draugrs are coming from."
"Fuck you !" Was the answer given along side with a blob of coagulated blood the undead spat on Freyr face, he cleaned himself, he wanted to kill it immediately so instead or doing anything that would stop them from getting answers he got out of the way and allowed Aesa to take control of the interrogation next.

Aesa let Freyr have his way with the undead filth. She stood behind the Jarl, arms folded, Mistbreaker hanging on her back. These two had a history, she could tell. She too had a history with Draugr; in fact, she began to notice some similarities between this draugr and those she had fought in Nilfr. When Freyr was finished doing his part he moved aside.
The One-Handed slowly approached where the Draugr stood, keeping some distance. "Asgeir, Nilfr... this new world. Doesn't matter where I go, there's always the draugr; and you always smell of putrid rot." She used her right hand to reach back and grab Mistbreaker, holding it in front of her so the draugr could see it. It was quite an exquisite weapon and almost seemed to glow with an otherworldly aura. A purple gem was embedded in the middle of the guard and he draugr would be able to see his reflection in it.
"Mistbreaker," she continued. "I cut down entire legions of draugr with this blade in Nilfr. But none since I've been here. I think she yearns for your corpse, draugr." Aesa lowered the point of the blade and began to push it into the draugr's chest. "You're already dead," she remarked. "I wonder if you can still talk without a foot, or a hand. Perhaps we will take off a limb or two, maybe four. Could you still talk if you were but a torso and a head? Curious." She took a step back. "I think your daughter took a part of his manhood," she said to Freyr. "Which piece do you want to take, my Jarl?"

"Nilfr ?," The Draugr laughed "You were there too ? I think I might have killed some of your men there." It was clear that it was trying to put up a brave face, I was also clear it was falling.
"I highly doubt that, considering you are the type to prey on the week and defenseless, I would bet that she never even saw you before that and that you were hiding somewhere else," Fryer said, becoming increasingly more angry with every word that came out of the undead's mouth "Also, that was your one chance to have a quick death, I would love to do this myself but I would definitely kill you, so, in going to ask Aesa here to cut one of your feet off."
"No ! I'll tell you where they are !" Plead the undead, dropping the mask of bravery he used to try and hide the feared he had, it was as afraid of Freyr as it was afraid of Aesa, I would be a fair guess to say that he watched her fighting from the shadows before, perhaps in Nilfr.
"Too late." Fryer replied before asking Aesa to take out one of the Draugr's lower leg.

"Hmph," Aesa muttered with crossed arms, her frustration evident. The Draugr's claim of killing some of her men had ignited a burning anger within her. With so few of her people remaining after the Flood, she couldn't bear to lose any more. Stepping ahead of Freyr, Aesa unsheathed her sword, Mistbreaker. Its mystical properties were entwined with Nilfr, causing the Draugr to experience a searing discomfort just by gazing upon it. Locating her target, Aesa swiftly swung her one-handed weapon, severing the Draugr's feet.
"Now, you will talk," she demanded, her voice laced with fury.

Freyr kneeled and took a small dagger of of his boot "You think you are funny huh ?" The man began touching the undead's ribs, feeling for the place where there were a space between them, he stabbed it than slid the dagger making a whole other Draugr side.
With one move, Fryer pulled a piece of the rotten rib bones from the Draugr, that looked like his bravery facade was over "Answer the woman properly please."
