Moir entered the tent with Jun, gesturing for the woman to lie down upon the empty bedroll in the corner that had previously been occupied by a young boy who finally got back on his feet after surviving the mists. "Her majesty is usually the one who heals people, but recently, she had been attacked by a frightening beast with venomous claws. Needless to say, she is yet weak." She got out of the way and moved out of the tent for a minute to get some of the fortifying tea she had been making out of pine needles to help with things like scurvy.
"This is pine tea. It'll make you feel better in no time," she explained, though that was most certainly a stretch.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 305
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

Jun obliged and carefully placed herself onto the bedroll. Being taken care of was an odd feeling. She felt strangely naked and vulnerable. The fact that she had left her gambeson and sword on the beach didn't help either.
"Thank you." She said softly. She would still accept the help as gracefully as she could.
"Not being able to fulfill your purpose can be a difficult feeling. I'm very grateful her majesty tended to me regardless."
As Moir left the tent to grab some tea, Jun sat up again and stared ahead of herself.
"Frightening beast with venomous claws, eh?" She grinned to herself.
Then she frowned. She could barely splash water at a distance. How was she going to slay a venomous clawed beast now?
Perhaps some sort of trap. Or maybe she could blind it with sand. Sand wasn't all that different from water, right? Maybe the queen had just been caught off guard and good old-fashioned sword and board would suffice. Or perhaps Jun could take a diplomatic approach. She held sway over crabs and seagulls. A venomous clawed monster's central nervous system couldn't possibly be more complex than a whale's. Maybe she could get to know the creature's mating habits and tame it. Worst case, maybe she could charm it long enough to get to walk over the caldera of a volcano-
"Uh, maybe not that last one. Lum'Valia would never approve."
When Moir brought in the pine tea, the steaming cup made her smirk. Moir was free to interpret this as gratitude and recognition. The pine tea was not an alien concept to her; her father had a similar brew for long hikes. But in reality, the warm liquid reminded her of the caldera of a volcano.
"I believe you." She gulped it down.
"Huh, citrusy."
Jun once again thought about the beast that attacked Tana. "Is Tana's silence a result of the creature's venom? Is the creature still at large?"

"Oh no," she said as she bustled about, making sure anyone else in the tent was tended to. Her half blind eyes shifted toward the woman and she said, "Tana has a horrible stutter. She cannot form words without it happening and is very self aware of her affliction. She chooses to speak with her hands and not her mouth. As for the beastie that got to her, the pelt is over there... We left the meat though, it was oozing green and smelled of carrion." She pointed to the white looking pelt and then rummaged around in the pocket of her apron until she produced the claw of the beast. "I kept this to see about making medicine for the queen but so far, she seems to be doing better without it."
"There have to be more out there, though. It seems they have no eyes and chase the feeling in the ground of people or things running. At least that is what Tana explained."

Tana seemed to grow more and more respectable with each passing minute.
"Impressive."
Jun eyed the pelt. The white color struck her as odd.
"Perhaps it's some sort of cave dweller."
Jun sighed. She didn't know what to do. She wished she could just head out and start hunting dangerous beasties, lighting them up with fireballs at the pleasure of the Usquean queen. But then again, even if she could, it did seem a bit wrong to massacre creatures who, presumably, were here first. But perhaps that was just the now defunct privilege of power talking. It's easy to be merciful when you possess unbridled defensive magic. But here, a little kill-or-be-killed attitude might serve her well.
"Did Tana slay the beast herself? Or are there hunters or warriors among your kind that saved her?"
Elder Moir might sense that Jun was getting a little too anxious to get up and start moving. She probably spotted a few of the battle scars on Jun's body while tending to her.

"No, the one called Asa, who is Tana's mate, saved her. There were others who helped too, Hrukka, and a cat I have no idea how it got onto the island but he is around somewhere." Moir left the tent then, and soon came back with some meat. It smelled like pork. The old woman offered it to Jun at that point and said, "Eat and gain your strength."

"Ooh, so the queen has a mate. He's a lucky man... That came out more forward than I intended."
It was interesting. The way Elder Moir referred to Asa didn't make him seem like a typical royal or otherwise suitable queenly mate. That implied he must have been something else, and compensated by being something special. Very interesting.
Jun wasn't one to turn down good food.
As she chowed down, she looked around at the infirmary tent, and an odd sense of uselessness fell upon her. "I just wish I knew what I was regaining my strength for exactly."

"Aye, though they have not officially married yet. I suspect the two will be hearing the little pitter-patter of feet soon enough, they cannot seem to stay away from one another." She chuckled.
"You've come to a land where there are no people so far besides the ones who just showed up one day from the mists. You're recovering to survive this new wild. We need every able body we can get to build shelter and fend off monsters. But something about the mist gave a good lot of us a strange illness, lethargy and such. Even Tana was not unaffected by it."

Jun beamed, even though thinking about the little pitter-patter of feet made her kind of sad.
When Moir mentioned the strange illness, Jun waggled her fingers in front of her. "I see. So I'm not the only one..."
She made a fist, but then took a breath and forced herself to calm down.
"So Tana was a mighty healer before the mists affected her. I guess that explains why she came to help me despite being in such bad straights herself."
Jun was pretty sure she would have done the same.
"There is a certain boldness that comes with that, you know. Having the privilege of magic often means you're called upon to put yourself in danger for your people. You're the first line of defense. You do what others cannot. And you hope and pray you never become someone who abuses that power to oppress others. It's quite the mental load actually, and yet not one easily relinquished even with that power gone."
Jun polished what was left of her "pork" (knowing what was on the island, she couldn't be sure this was actually pork), and sat back up. "Which is why I'm not going to. I'm going to relearn how to fight despite this illness. And, I'm gonna learn how to make thatched roofs. I've always wanted to learn how to do that actually."
She was, of course, lying to herself. Of all the things she wanted to learn how to make in her lifetime, thatched roof most likely had a double-digit number on the list. But, as a wise old sage from a bygone era once said, sometimes you gotta fake it 'til you make it.

"Nay, you are most certainly not the only one. Aye, Tana was a healer and still is, though she relies more on herbal remedies and the like before anything." And with the next words coming from the healing woman, Moir nodded in agreement... "A task she takes seriously." She smiled then and patted Jun on the arm. "Now rest up. We are in need of more good people if we are to have this village built."
And with that, the old woman trundled out.
for the next several days, Moir would be in and out of the tent, giving remedies as needed.
