Survivors' Camp
Palm trees line the shores of a sub-tropical beach. The sea ebbs and flows across the sandy shores. Tangles of vines, brush, and forest growth restrict travel inland, forcing visitors to remain on the coastline for now. When the mists finally cleared a few ships found themselves drifting near the central island. A small camp was erected, supplies were stockpiled, and food gathered. More permanent shelters made of palm trees and other supplies replaced simple tents over the course of the next few days. But while the campfires did attract more survivors willing to pitch in, it would also attract some undesirables...

Zuri used her spyglass to scan for landing sites adjacent to the survivors' camp. She doubted they would attack on site, but was compelled to land safely and disembark her entire crew before making contact with the strangers. Even if they lacked aggression the castaways would sally forth with arms once they got a good look at the motley band of pirates, marauders, and vagabonds.
There was Zuri, for starters, and her Corsairs. These exotic, dark-skinned men and women were considered barbaric and inferior to many, and like Zuri were often pressed into slavery against their will. Fortunately, she had been rescued by the Corsairs - but the damage had been done. Whoever Zuri was before, circumstances turned her into a ruthless, relentless, and vengeful pirate. It did not take long before she took command of her own Corsair crew, lashing out at those who wronged her.
Then there was her second: Karak. Although a bodyguard in every sense of the word, Zuri befriended the fearsome, shark-like Selachi.
Finally, there were two other groups who had recently joined Zuri: a conclave of ronin and a roving band of Varan marauders. The Corsairs encountered the ronin first, prior to the Flood. An initial clash between the two groups ended in a bloody stalemate. Zuri then challenged their leader to single combat. She claimed the ronin's katana as her trophy, and invited the others to join her. The seas were terrorized by a fleet of Corsairs and Ronin.
After the mists cleared the fleet encountered some Varan longships. Recognizing them as pirates, raiders, and marauders, Zuri demanded they join her pirate fleet. They refused, and so she challenged their leader to single combat. Wielding her katana masterfully, Zuri slew the Varan warlord, encouraging the Varan marauders to join her crew.
And now this motley band of unexpected allies had been sailing along the coasts of the central island. At first they were just trying to find a suitable landing site, but interest was piqued upon the sight of campfires. The small armada double-timed it towards the source. Zuri instructed the entire fleet to drop anchor and rest.
"We will land there," she pointed, indicating an adjacent beach. "Disembark the entire crew, then approach the survivors. We'll take whatever supplies they have - by force if necessary." Zuri shrugged, "and I suppose its as good a spot as any for a pirate cove, eh?"

Karak
New
Roleplay posts: 1
Age: 42
====================
Appearance: Karak is a member of the shark-like Selachi race, and as such is tall and sturdy, his 8 and a half foot tall bulk looming over most of his peers. Years of piratical exploits have left their mark on this Selachi, aged white scars marring his flesh from head to toe, brazenly displayed as a marker of his resilience. His dorsal fin is similarly battered and notched. The eye is drawn to his missing right forearm, gristle and cartilage terminating not in a powerful, clawed hand, but in a long blade made of whalebone, its curved, serrated edge screaming danger. Menacing white eyes with the tiniest of slitted pupils gaze out from a squat, trapezoidal head, sitting low on his broad, muscular shoulders. Two flared nostrils cap his nose in addition to a set of gills set where his head meets his shoulders, hinting at his hybrid biology. His mouth is wide and predatory, with row upon row of jagged, razor sharp teeth. His lower jaw is slightly larger than his upper jaw, resulting in a small underbite. His voice comes out in a low, gravelly gurgle, his vocal chords ill-equipped to handle human speech.
Karak is quite old for one of his species, and so his flesh has begun to degrade and sag around the edges of his mouth, thick golden rings pierced through the ends of the dangling flaps of cartilage as a sort of crude ornamentation.
====================
Equipment: Karak rarely wears much more than a raggedy cloth about his hips to cover his decency, relying solely on intimidating and brute strength to get him through most confrontations. In more serious engagements, he is liable to wear a crude steel breastplate made just for him, as normal armour does not fit his frame well. The whalebone blade implanted in his right arm as a prosthetic is almost razor sharp and surprisingly hard and resilient, reinforced through dark, primal magic rituals. The claws on his other hand and his feet are not to be underestimated, however; often when one is focusing on his bladed arm, he rakes them with a devastating swipe from his naturally brutal hardened cartilage protrusions.
====================
Skills and Abilities: As all Selachi, Karak has hidden webbing between his fingers and toes that can be deployed at will, as well as stabilising fins that spring from underneath his layered leg flesh. This, combined with his dorsal fin and hairless, hydrodynamic frame make him an excellent swimmer. Able to breathe and see under the salty waters of the seas with no difficulty, as well as smell a drop of blood from half a mile away, he is the last foe you'd want to face off dry land.
Karak's natural weapons are almost as dangerous as his prosthetic blade, his gnashing jaws able to distend in such a way that they can sever a man in two with one bite, and his claws sharp enough to rend through flesh with ease. The flesh on his extremities is also naturally thick and difficult to pierce, his species having evolved many layers of cartilage to mitigate hunting risks.
Karak has electroreceptors in his head that allow him to find even the most well-hidden enemies or prey underwater using nothing but their electromagnetic field, although he requires a fairly close proximity for this to be effective.
Selachi biology has a few natural downsides, of course. Karak cannot spend too long away from water, or he will dry out and die of dehydration. Selachi intelligence is also below the human baseline, on average, much of their brains devoted to hunting instinct rather than intellectual pursuits. This is not to say that Karak is stupid, but his intelligence is lackluster, more of a predatory cunning than actual wisdom.

The Selachi surely stands out among the other corsairs. Eight and a half feet tall, with a mouth full of deadly sharp teeth and bound with rippling muscle underneath his heavily scarred placoid scaled flesh, the shark man is far and away the most physically intimidating member of the crew. He joined Zuri's crew when he reasoned, with his predatory cunning, that a prolific pirate crew would be more likely to rake in a steady income of prey than being a solitary hunter would. In the interim, he's grown to respect the captain, no small feat given general Selachi sentiment toward potential prey animals like humans, and the relationship has proven mutually beneficial time and again.
Standing upon the forecastle, trousers and loincloth fluttering in the sea breeze, Karak's keen white eyes appraise the shoreline with a predator's attentiveness, scanning for an ideal angle of assault. Although his captain said that they would take the survivors' supplies by force "if necessary", the Selachi takes it as a given that there will be bloodshed. He welcomes the prospect, in fact, his stiff jaw turning up into a grizzly approximation of a smile, displaying his jagged, razor sharp teeth. Bloodshed means food.
"Right, boss," he replies in a deep, watery voice unsuited for human speech, turning to face her, "and if they don't resist? Can't we just kill 'em anyway? Been a while since I've had a good meal." A cruel laugh comes out in a throaty rumble, setting his gills fluttering. He lifts the whale bone blade that's replaced his right forearm into his left hand, testing the edge with a clawed finger in anticipation, although he knows that it will be deadly sharp given the charms placed upon it.

Ori having wanted to expand her business decided to set sail for the new land. However, she was able to afford a small ship and got lost here. She's been here for a few days but she is still thankful to see a ship arriving. She had sat on a stump for a few hours to rest, her clothing looks as neat as the day she arrived. Swirling around her are three small fox spirits happily floating in the gentle sea breeze.

Zuri grins at Karak, "we may yet need their labor," she explains to the Selachi. "But you're welcome to a snack, or two." She patted him on his back and laughed, "I know you're getting tired of eating fish all the time, old friend."
Zuri turns and shouts orders to her crewmen, who begin rowing the flagship towards the chosen shore. The rest of the fleet follows, carrying Selachi, Varan, Corsairs, and Ronin alike to the destination. The survivors on the beach see them and begin to congregate to observe these new arrivals. As they draw closer the pirates can see Ori Akiyama. Her attire and aura remind Zuri of the ronin that follow her, and she isn't grouped with the other survivors; she wonders if she is an outcast.
The ships pull ashore and, leading by example, Zuri is the first to jump down onto the beach. Her dark skin, that of the Corsairs, the fearsome Karak and his Selachi brethren, the imposing Varan, and mysterious Ronin all make for an unnerving motley band. They assemble in a loose but cohesive enough group to meet the survivors, who come into the clearing opposite them. The survivors appear enthused, then curious, then concerned.
"Welcome to our camp," one of them begins, extending an arm to Zuri and another to Ori.
"Your camp?" barks Zuri, "this is our camp now. And everything in it is ours too. Including your lives." The pirate queen unsheathes her katana, "unless you have a problem with that." She nudges her head towards Karak, "please, have a problem with it. My friend hasn't had a good meal in weeks." She then casts a glance to Ori Akiyama, "and your stake in this?"

She thinks about this for a moment. "I wish to not sully my hands with bloodshed. The people live here, wouldn't it be unfair to take that from them? I'm sure they could spare some food and supplies. I suspect that you're just passing through." Ori walks over to Zuri. What a fierce person traveling with a strange group of companions.
The foxes float by Ori's side ready to protect her should anything happen. She seems much too refined compared to the roughness of the island. She looks between the two parties with gentle golden eyes.
