Appearance: She is slightly above average height for a woman, about 5'10" and weighing a bit more at a 190lbs. She has medium-length platinum blonde hair, and a rather feminine face. It is the stern look in her eye that gives her face its hard edge, accompanied by the numerous bruises and scars that are a result of years of military service. Her figure is relatively slender, compacted with muscle from years of training and a strict nutrition regime.
Equipment: Ana wears the traditional armor of an Isran Centurion, complete with the red sash and the Isran sigil on her breast. The armor is fitting to what curves she does have, and, given that the Lady Naoki had a say in the armor, probably accentuates them. She wields her sword, a weapon of no particularly special properties beyond good craftsmanship and having been lovingly maintained by generations of Haels. Her legionnaire's shield completes the image of a stalwart Isran warrior.
Skills and Abilities: She is an excellent motivator and leader, years of experience dating back to being a guard sergeant in her very early twenties just by virtue of being one of the few people in the small village who could read. She is a skilled combatant, particularly when acting in concert with those she has trained against, and she is a superb teammate and subordinate officer.

A small "palisade" surrounds a dozen or large tents, each emblazoned with the old flag of the First Isran Cohort, now a symbol for the Argentium Legion in deference to its commanding officer, Centurion Analiese Hael. The palisade is a palisade for appearances only, no structurally sound wood could be justifiably utilized for a palisade when a couple hundred people still lived in tents with holes in them. Inside the "palisade" are the few large legion tents that were stored on the Perseverance, dating back to the Goraian War. A few dozen legionaries call this area home, and beneath them is those former town guards with enough training to qualify. A large empty drilling square is in the center of the grounds, serving as training for the citizens. With so few soldiers that have survived, the Centurion has implemented a training regime for any citizens that desire to form a militia of sorts to aid in the defense of the Port.  The Legion is currently recruiting any and all who desire to join, either as Legionaries or as auxiliaries. |

Appearance: An elderly woman with a wiry frame who most notably possesses unnatural height, standing at well over seven feet tall even when hunched over her cane. Her hair is grayish-white and normally done up in a bun and her eyes are also gray in color. Her skin is very pale and has an almost grayish hue to it. Her nails are long, black, and sharpened at the tip.

Equipment: She wears a deep purple robe that has sleeves that extend far beyond her hands. Her hands are covered with fine gloves of black silk and she wears one ring on each, one having a purple stone set in it and the other a piece of onyx. Carrying an ornate cane of orellium, Grandma can use it to increase her magical channeling as well as assist in deflecting others' spells with it. The cane itself is black and covered in numerous ornate, but tiny runes. The cap on the cane is a purplish-colored gem. On her wrist is a silver bracelet with a ruby in it that Grandma uses for communication with others who own similar bracelets.

Biography: While the details of Grandma's past are shrouded in mystery, since first meeting Naoki she has served essentially one role, that of advisor. While her titles have varied as Naoki moved up the social ladder of Isra, her continued support, and assistance she offered to Naoki have never wavered.
Even following the destruction of Isra, Grandma continues to follow and offer guidance to Lady Naoki as they attempt to rebuild from the wreckage.

The state of Isra’s former military was depressing. And that was putting things nicely. What had once commanded the world's respect and struck fear into many a nation had been reduced to this. The ragtag bunch that made up much of the camp's occupants did little to inspire confidence in Grandma, but for now, it was the best they were going to get. Letting out a weary sigh, she strolled towards a soldier who looked like he had actually served back when the empire was still… Well, an empire.

The crone’s blackened nails drummed rhythmically against her cane as she walked, only stopping as she slowed to a halt in front of the chosen soldier. Her eyes swept over the man, Grandma making no effort to conceal her obvious inspection of him. Seemingly satisfied, she addressed him dryly.
“Where might I find Centurion Analiese Hael, soldier?” Grandma fixed the man with an expectant gaze as she waited for his answer.

Herman pointed towards a tent that stood on a small hill in the compound, only a few feet above the rest of the tent. And that is exactly where Grandma would find the Centurion, examining numerous inky maps of the surrounding territory. |

“Thank you.” Grandma offered Sergeant Herman the faintest of smiles before moving past him, her robe billowing out behind her as she moved at a brisk pace towards the Centurion’s tent.
Having to stoop slightly to enter, Grandma pushed aside one of the tent flaps and regarded Hael in silence for a brief moment before addressing the woman in a kindly voice. It was the type of voice one might expect from an old woman who was sharing some freshly baked pies.
“Centurion Analiese Hael I presume? I’m here to educate myself on our current soldier situation... I was told you were the person to speak to about such matters.” Grandma’s gaze briefly passed over the various maps before returning to rest on Hael. A smile creased her wrinkled features as she regarded the Centurion.

Appearance: Captain Tarku stands at an imposing 6'4 with a solid build of one who was much more muscular when he was a younger soldier. He has mid-length dark brown, almost black, hair and a full beard of the same color.
Equipment: He wears the standard issue armor of an Isran legionnaire, which includes a small Isran sigil on the breastplate. Red fabric and feathers found on his uniform, including the plumes of feathers on his helmet, are mixed with green fabrics and feathers. The green represents his Amrithian people, who submitted to Isran and had their own unit formed under the Fourth Legion. He carries a Legionnaire's shield with Isran iconography on it, a standard issue spear, and a falcata - the preferred sword of the Amrithians.
Skills and Abilities: Captain Tarku is battle hardened after a lifetime of being a soldier, both before and after becoming an Isran Legionnaire.
Biography: Tarku has been a soldier since he was a young teenager. He served in this Amrithian armies prior to their conquest by the Isran. When the Amrithians surrendered to the overwhelming and disciplined force of Isran, the Amrithian soldiers were offered their own unit in the Fourth Legion so long as they pledged their loyalty to Isran. Tarku was one of the Amrithians who accepted and has since fought in numerous battles and wars within the Fourth Legion, eventually rising to command the Amrithian Cohort.

The sorrel colored horse strode through the opening of the palisade and into the drilling square. Captain Tarku swung off of Shipwreck and padded the beast on the neck. "If you were my horse when we fought the Psemions, I would have chosen to walk and made you into stew." Shipwreck released a nervous neigh and tried to pull away, but Tarku pulled the reins in tighter. "I'll make a destrier of you, you'll see. Pity, I seemed to have lost my whip."
He lowered the reins in his hand, which were subsequently taken by a boy of the village who had apparently decided to hang around the palisade to combat boredom. The boy said something, but the Legionnaire only caught "Captain" as he did his best to ignore the annoyingly prepubescent voice. He knew the boy would put up Shipwreck and have him clean for tomorrow and that was all that mattered.
Tarku had made a habit of riding alone in the mornings in the areas outside of Port Argentium. He had been reporting it as scouting, and in many ways it was, but deep down it was to combat his own sense of boredom. For over twenty years he had been used to a constant diet of battle. First against Isra's Fourth Legion when Isra warred with his own Amrithian people until the latter was defeated. However, the Amrithians were given an opportunity to be absorbed into the Legion and placed into their own unit. For most of his life he has served as soldier in the Amrithian Cohort of the Fourth Legion. Since their arrival at this place, Port Argentium, there has been little in terms of battle.
However, he found himself in this new unit - the Argentium Legion. As far as he could tell, most of the other legionnaires here were either fresh recruits of veterans of the Goraian War. The Fourth Legion had not been deployed there, likely fighting the Psemion Empire or conquering tribes of the Etenloo or some other enemy of Isra. It was hard to keep track sometimes, so many battles, so many enemies, and so much time that had passed.
He was under the command of Centurion Hael, who he had begun to develop some respect for. However, this unit was very different to the cohorts, even the Legion, he was used to. He was committed as was his duty and allegiance, but there is no doubt that the shared experiences of legionnaires within Legion that leaves one longing for his fellow soldiers when separated. This Argentium Legion was too new, too raw, to have developed that bond. The fact that many were recruits from citizens with no prior experience did not help. |

Analiese gestured for Grandma to take a seat and would only sit if she did as well. The various maps showed either the current or potential future plans for the Port. Another showed what they knew of the surroundings, including a few potential locations for other inhabited settlements that had been sighted at a distance by scouts. "To be honest, not great. I have one other senior officer beside myself, and four sergeants. The only good news is we have so few legionnaires that the matter is hardly stressing on our command ability. A few dozen in some total, including the city guard that we forcefully conscripted to merge the two functions." Analiese slid a piece of paper to Grandma that detailed what they had with names. "We're working to train up the civilians in shifts to function as a militia in times of dire need, but that's an unreliable source at best and doesn't cover our general need to be able to patrol and secure the Port's outskirts once we start developing farmlands and fields. We have maybe half a dozen horses, two of which are assigned to myself and Captain Tarku. Arms and armament we are currently fine on, though our forge capacity is lacking to replace anything should we get into a fight or find some magical new source of soldiers. The militia will be training with glorified sharpened sticks that are either long or thrown." She sighed and chuckled, shaking her head at the futility of the situation. "Simply put ma'am, if we are wrong about the presence of other significant civilizations on this island, we are completely boned if they are hostile." She paused, waiting to see if Grandma had any response. |

First Legion had earned its stripes fighting against the Norkari, the Goraians and assisting in the evacuation of Aeadan during the Undead War. Still, his people had put up a good fight against the Fourth Legion, which fought in a far more unorthodox fashion in comparison with her own legion. It was a perspective she was grateful to have though, and his long years of expertise exceeded her own. She had yet to find a formal role for him besides as her Deputy and training the militia/new recruits. |

Upon hearing the Centurion, Captain Tarku turned and stood at attention. His feet were slightly wider than shoulder width apart, likely due to the temporary bowlegs that one develops after just having finished a ride, arms crossed behind his back, and left hand wrapped around his right fist just above his sacrum. Had he been in possession of his shield his hands would instead be resting on the top edge of the shield in front of him, the bottom firmly supported by the ground. However, the shield proved too cumbersome for these scouting rides and he often left it behind.
“Good morning, Centurion. I have nothing to report from today’s ride, ma’am. Hopefully, once we have adequately prepared troops, our scouting expeditions will extend even further from the settlement.”

Stifling a chuckle, Grandma inclined her head at the Centurion's question.
"Yes, Grandma will do just fine. I'm no longer the Imperial Vizier given well..." Motioning around at the hodgepodge collection of tents, the old woman let out a dry laugh. "Such a title would be a bit much given the current circumstances."
Taking a seat at Analiese's gesture, Grandma let out a sigh as she leaned back in the seat. She'd been walking around quite a bit today and the chair was a welcome respite. Furrowing her brow in thought, Grandma tapped one finger on the arm of her chair as she considered the situation. "I am in need of several soldiers, how many would you be able to spare? I would like at least two to guard Lady Naoki's tent at all times, more just to make sure no thieves get in it while she's away than for actual security. We have Alden for that."
Taking out her pipe, smoke began billowing out of its end as Grandma lifted it to her lips. Inhaling in the sweet scent of cherry, Grandma seemed to be given her next words quite a bit of consideration.
"And I am looking for four soldiers who are... Discreet." Grandma offered the centurion a knowing look as she stressed the word. "I'd also need them to be in my employ exclusively as their duties would be rather extensive. Is that something you can provide?"

Underneath his shirt, Alden's skin is a mass of scar tissue. Starting from just below his neckline, there is very little space that does not sport some relic of a past injury. A particularly observant person may also note that among these scars, some are a bright scarlet. These scarlet scars form an intricate series of runes hiding amidst the rest of the scars.

Equipment: Alden's general loadout when he goes fighting consists of the following:
A twin set of enchanted shortswords. The simple straight blades are unnatural dark, absorbing rather than reflecting light. Giving the enchanted steel an appearance closer to cold iron. The guard has the Isran sun emblem emblazoned in a medallion shape just above the guard, which is wrapped in simple leather. The enchantments increase their sharpness and durability, as well as being able to ignite the blood of anything that he has pierced with either blade.
Numerous braces and hidden throwing knives all over his body. At one point, these were also enchanted but when the calamity struck he didn't have time to grab his original set. So these are all well-made but ultimately mundane weapons. Still, with his strength and skill, they can be quite deadly.
Unfortunately, at present, he is also missing his armour. His preferred armour is leather dyed in mottled black and greys, with strike plates sewn between layers for added protection. His old set was also enchanted for increased protection from physical and magical attacks.

Skills and Abilities: Alden is, for lack of a better term, a weapon master. He has been trained to use almost any weapon you can think to name. Relentless daily training with each, with extraordinarily demanding expectations on performance and harsh incentives for failure giving a level of skill with most of them that make him formidable.
However, his preferred style involves twin short swords. While he is skilled with all of his weapons thanks to training, he discovered a natural talent with the blade. His level of skill when wielding his short swords is on another level entirely, nearly transcendent in his skill.
On top of that, he is a living magical enchantment. Carved into his body are a variety of runes that grant him numerous innate abilities. He is inhumanly strong, around three to four times stronger than a man in a similar state of physical fitness would be. This also applies to his endurance, speed, reflexes, and other physical traits. He also has regenerative abilities exceeding human normal, able to heal from even broken bones in a matter of days rather than weeks.
In addition, he is immune to most poisons and resistant to the rest. The runes etched into his eyes ensure he can see the same no matter the level of light and reveal magical auras to him. Runes along his back make him impossible to scry on directly and provide him a measure of resistance to magical attack. Alden was subjected to hellish daily training along with six other children. Forced to learn to fight with every weapon, against any foe, in any condition. His limbs were broken deliberately and he was forced to continue to fight and train in constant agony. And this was among the mildest of the ways he was trained.
The culmination of the training came when he was twelve. When he and the six other children were locked in a room and told that the only one who got to leave... was the only one to survive. Of course, surviving was hardly a reward.
Once Pride had only the strongest of the children left he proceeded to the next step of his plan. Alden's memories and identity were seared away as Pride carved runes into his flesh and his very soul. Transforming the young man into a living magical artifact and keeping him on a drug that suppressed all of his emotions.
From there Alden became the new Wrath of the set, a weapon meant only to slay those he was told to. That may have been all he would be but Pride made a miscalculation, Alden's runes helped him to build an immunity to the dosage meant to keep his emotions in check, a weakness made worse by Pride having let him keep his anger thinking it would make him a better weapon. Eventually, events conspired and Alden snapped when the only member of The Set to be kind to him, Sloth, was killed for threatening to expose Pride.
Alden, driven into a deeper rage than ever before killed Envy, Lust, Gluttony, and even disembowelled Pride. Greed manage to escape and Alden slaughtered everything in his path trying to catch the man. Eventually succeeding in his goal. Bereft of a target for his rage and the chase having left him in the middle of nowhere Alden finally collapsed the trauma and coming off of the dosage causing him to bury most of his memories.
He wound up in Isra where his talents and skill soon earned him the eye of the then, criminal Madam Naoki. She recruited him as one of her enforcers a role he continued as her power expanded and grew until she finally became Empress. His reward for his loyalty? Appointment to the head of The Sun Marshals her special police force, effectively making him her right-hand man.
During this time he also uncovered his own past and learned that Pride had survived, the man had made preparations for such an eventuality and his death only saw his soul moving to a phylactery as he became a lich.
Pride created a new Set, this time making each member just as he made Alden. Eventually, this culminated in Pride attacking Isra and his eventual, final defeat.
Decades have passed since that time and Alden, whose power kept him at his prime for years continued to serve Isra until the new calamity took him to The Island of Mists, his empress reduced to a captain and he now serving as her first mate.

Stepping into the training yard with The Malachite Knight Alden looks around it curiously. It had been a long time since he'd visited a place like this. Which wasn't to say that he didn't train regularly. He simply did his training in private. Soldiers tended to have one of two reactions when they saw him fighting, fear or desire. Having men look at him with worry at what he could potentially do to them if he chooses didn't sit well with him. But neither did soldiers approaching him asking to learn to fight as he did. If they knew the cost it took to reach his level of skill he wondered if they would be so eager? Either way, he supposed he would be opening himself up to such looks again if he was going to spar with Chamvert at some point. He wasn't looking forward to it but it was the nice thing to do for his green friend. In both colouring and in the sense that the knight was a new friend. Looking around he is searching for someone who had a look of authority about them. Ideally he wanted to talk to the centurion since she was the one who was most likely to be able to get Chambert formally part of the command and training structure. |

Appearance: The knight is plated in a jade green armor with decorative brass-colored trim. Its armet snug against the confines of its being, the helmet dressed down into the cuirass, of which a white-fur pelt hung over the left shoulder, flowing down its back. Its brass-like pauldrons pointed to a fine edge and inlaid with more mythic-like detail. The armor followed down its body, tightly conforming to it until it reached the knight's pointed sabatons.
Underneath the armor one would simply find a bleached-white skeleton of a humanoid shape. Its bones in near perfect condition, barring any light dings adn scratches.
Equipment: The green knight carries a greatsword with a gold circular pommel. The pommel is inlaid with indescribable runes of an ancient sort and the image of a lion-like creature.
Skills and Abilities: The Malachite Knight in a undead skeleton, as such it does not sleep, nor can it eat. It does not need nourishment or the needs of a human, but neither can it talk. The Malachite Knight is a silent creature, perhaps a once dead knight resurrected or brought back in some past event.

Chamvert was following Alden into and through the camp, his pace matching Alden's, but his strut far more rigid in movement and deliberate. The Green Knight's armor looked as if it fit their body perfectly with not a single piece moving as if it had been improperly fit. The malachite-like armor bore a brass colored decorative trim, featuring the images of differing mythic symbols, most of different creatures, it appeared as if inlaid with the work of master-metalsmith. The pommel featured a lion-like creature's head inlaid on both sides in a brass-like metal.
The knight seemed undistracted by any of the soldiers watching the arrival of the two warriors. It was clear to the knight, by a glance, that these so-called soldiers needed work and discipline. The knight stared at Alden, hoping that the warrior would assist him in demonstrating several movements for Chamvert's teaching, ones the knight deemed necessary for these soldiers, should they ever meet the ugly face of warfare.

His feet were slightly wider than shoulder width apart, likely due to the temporary bowlegs that one develops after just having finished a ride, arms crossed behind his back, and left hand wrapped around his right fist just above his sacrum. Had he been in possession of his shield his hands would instead be resting on the top edge of the shield in front of him, the bottom firmly supported by the ground. However, the shield proved too cumbersome for these scouting rides and he often left it behind. “Good morning, Centurion. I have nothing to report from today’s ride, ma’am. Hopefully, once we have adequately prepared troops, our scouting expeditions will extend even further from the settlement.” "Good morning Captain, at ease." She said as she saluted. A militia can help us defend what we have, but for projecting power, taking new lands and that sort of thing we need professionals, and our manpower pool is incredibly limited." I made sure to have extra patrols in that area, but I suppose in lieu of that I could just station two outside her tent and keep the patrols to normal. So it would just be four." Analiese pulled out a list and made a few notes in the margins. "Four soldiers whose sole tasking is for your discretion alone. I'll admit I'm not comfortable with the idea of some of my soldiers performing tasking that I'm not aware of. Discretion was not something really engrained in the Legions, we left that work up to the Sun Marshals. Bereft of a target for his rage and the chase having left him in the middle of nowhere Alden finally collapsed the trauma and coming off of the dosage causing him to bury most of his memories.
He wound up in Isra where his talents and skill soon earned him the eye of the then, criminal Madam Naoki. She recruited him as one of her enforcers a role he continued as her power expanded and grew until she finally became Empress. His reward for his loyalty? Appointment to the head of The Sun Marshals her special police force, effectively making him her right-hand man.
During this time he also uncovered his own past and learned that Pride had survived, the man had made preparations for such an eventuality and his death only saw his soul moving to a phylactery as he became a lich.
Pride created a new Set, this time making each member just as he made Alden. Eventually, this culminated in Pride attacking Isra and his eventual, final defeat.
Decades have passed since that time and Alden, whose power kept him at his prime for years continued to serve Isra until the new calamity took him to The Island of Mists, his empress reduced to a captain and he now serving as her first mate.

Alden wasn't surprised at the lack of a wait time as he greats Centurion Analiese Hael with a respectful nod of his head. As she had noted he had no formal rank in Isra's army, he'd been the head of The Sun Marshals which had been adjacent to the military but not directly part of it. Mostly because quantifying the Sun Marshals formally into the command structure would have been... tricky to do. It also would have meant Naoki giving up a measure of her authority over them by introducing the military's more rigid bureaucracy to things The Empress would rather be kept simple. "Centurion, good to see you again." It would have been a stretch to call her a friend, they were more working acquaintances. Working in related circles but only rarely intersecting. Still, he liked her well enough. Analiese was professional and competent both things he appreciated. "This is Chamvert, I found him as he was emerging from the sea. He is an undead knight and once commanded similar warriors and living men on the battlefield. Whatever army he served did not, thus far, make the journey to these lands. For the moment he has agreed to help train our troops, I assume another experienced hand helping to get some of the new militia volunteers up to speed would not go amiss?" There is a pause and then he remembers something. "Oh, no reason to keep these now." Turning to Chamvery he ruffles in a bag and produces a piece of slate about the size of a dinner plate and a chunk of chalk from a bag he was carrying. They'd made a quick stop by The Depravity and he'd gone on board to retrieve the items before they'd come to The Training Yard. He'd only kept them in the bag because it was watertight and he'd swum to the ship and back since it was faster, for him, than taking a boat. He'd not seen any point in giving it to the knight right away but now that they were no longer moving about the camp it was a good time. |
