Appearance: Drachen is the most imposing figure in the settlement of Cabbeling, towering head and shoulders above most of Cabbeling's already-large populace. The dull, dragonscale plate armor adds bulk to Drachen's natural size, and he is never seen without it.
Equipment: Enchanted plate armor made from dragonscale, giving it enhanced durability, lighter weight, and a near-airtight seal when the joints are properly arranged. He wields a greatsword and the Shield of Loyalty, an artifact that generates a healing substance known as Balance.
Skills and Abilities: Drachen is the foremost warrior from his own realm, capable of wielding a greatsword single-handed. He is gifted with the ability to use the magic of his home realm, but he is not skilled in the art and does not often rely on it.
Biography: Drachen was once one of six "Spirit Riders" who protected and ruled over humanity in the realm known as Valonca. When a devastating flood threatened Valonca, Drachen organized an evacuation effort to spare as many of his people from the deluge as he could. Now he and his people seek to establish a new home in the Mistborne Isles.

Set on the northwestern edge of the Mistborne Isles, the northern wastes are an unforgiving tract of land designed to test the resolve and survival skills of even the most hardy adventurers. Mountains frame the east and western coasts, making journeys inland difficult -- indeed almost impossible -- for those unfortunate enough to land there. The northern coastline projects just slightly from the mountains' embrace to provide a rocky shore upon which newcomers may make landfall. Vegetation is extremely sparse this far north, and accordingly only very specialized fauna make their home on the barren, stony ground. To the south the rocks give way to tundra capable of supporting more advanced life, and further still one may encounter taiga that is partially supported by the presence of a river cutting through the eastern mountains. This river feeds a large lake that eventually runs into the sea around which the island is situated. The relatively warmer climate in the southern portion of this wilderness combined with the lake's fresh water provides for a comfortable lifestyle relative to the harshness of the extreme north.
Those journeying into this portion of the island are liable to do so by either following the river upstream into the lake or by traversing north from the central portion of the northwest quadrant, or by arriving at the northern coast.

Drachen peered southward, squinting as the setting sun's light pierced his helmet's visor from the east. From his vantage point atop his spirit mount, he could just barely see the makings of a river. A river would do his people some good. After a full day of marching south, slowed by the burden of their belongings and their numbers, his people had come across no water and very little in the way of food. Drachen turned his mount about to examine the large camp his people had constructed inside the treeline. They were making the most of their situation: singing traditional folk songs around their fires, telling stories, and sparingly enjoying the provisions they had. It was apparent that even without a source of water, Drachen's people still had some drink from the ships' stores, at least. He goaded the mount toward the cluster of tents erected by his trusted officers. Those who were around the camp stopped their work and saluted him as he dispelled his spirit mount. "Gentlemen!" Drachen called, summoning the remaining officers from within their tents. "I have good news!" The captain of the guard was the first to speak. "What did you find, Lord?"
"A river, south of here, maybe by a few miles." Drachen pointed over the crest of the hill where he made his discovery. "We'll have good fishing for certain, and hopefully some good hunting." One of the officers placed a hand on the hilt of his sword and surveyed the forest behind the camp. "I was expecting reindeer or elk in those woods, so I hope you're right about the hunting being better along the river." "How much longer will our supplies from the ship last?" asked Drachen. Another officer replied, "We're expecting another two days or so before we need to find a water source, maybe three or five days before we run out of food. At least once we run out of supplies, we can slaughter whatever beasts aren't carrying any more." Drachen shook his head. "I'd like to avoid that. We'll send a hunting party tomorrow away from the main group. They might find something where there aren't hundreds of people to scare the animals away." Drachen no sooner finished speaking than a series of screams rang through the camp. The Rider and his officers instinctively reached for their weapons and ran in the direction of the commotion. Unable to find the initial source of the panic now spreading through the camp, Drachen seized a passing man by the shoulders and lifted him off the ground. "What's going on?" His question was immediately answered by an inhuman bellow sounding before him. Sounding like a cross between a goat's bleat and the cry of several oxen, the bellow sent a chill even through Drachen, who dropped his captive and allowed the man to run for his life. The call was soon followed by the appearance of the beast that made it: standing well taller than all the tents in the camp, the creature possessed a goat-like body and powerful, goat-like legs, but well-developed humanoid arms and hands. The creature's face certainly resembled that of a goat on the surface, but its antlers were more like those of a reindeer. Drachen had seen many monsters in his day. Many of them were his own god's experiments with good and evil, or as he termed it, Balance and Unbalance. This abomination was nothing like he had seen before. It warranted only one reaction. "What in the Master's name is that?"
