There were no roads, but there were natural paths in this new untamed land. Between trees and bushes, stones and water, it was traversable for a person albeit much harder for one that didn't want to get the pretty silk upon his clothes sullied. Vidkun knew he should sent some of the riff-raff that had landed in the twins to do this scouting, but despite pretending to be a nobleman he could not do the delegating of one; he needed the knowledge of these lands to be verified, to be his own.
Though his past life was behind him, its knowledge would be most valuable in the future plans of the state he was to craft. It would be a glorious settlement, a bastion of trade and civilization and order and authority in this place where ideas born by too much freedom would run rampant. He broke out of his musings when he heard someone else going through the nature surrounding him, and thus the man quietly drew his sidesword before leaning against a tree. With no patrols about the place there would be no guarantee the other presence here was a friend rather than a foe, and he would be taking no chances. For now he was happy to observe, knowing full well it could be that he was the one being observed.

So very tired was she as she trundled through the underbrush, her clothes all but ruined by both land and sea. She stumbled, landing flat on her belly and knocking the wind out of her. She had no idea where she was or even who she was. All she knew was that she was so very thirsty and hungry that it almost didn't matter to her if she lived or died. Lexxi pushed to her feet, determined not to die.
She heard something and a little gasp came past her lips. "Hello?" she asked, desperate for there to be another person... Anybody. Was she alone or was it her imagination that made her think there was another person? She did not know. The girl passed the tree he hid behind. She was starting to tremble... from fright? No, probably not. Ugh, she didn't know!
She turned about and when she saw him, she gave a cry and jumped a few feet backwards in startlement.

As Vidkun leaned to his tree he looked through the woods, eyebrow raised. He considered going for the crossbow, but decided against it knowing there was far too much cover with all this vegetation. But then he saw what his "mysterious" quarry was after peering around a corner, and then sighed, putting away his sword. It was possible that before him was a witch deserving a fire at the stakes but with the mist having taken so much power from them he wasn't so fearful about giving up just a fraction of the eternal vigilance he had in his old profession.
Thus he stepped from out of the tree he was hiding behind, tooking off his hat and bowing in one smooth movement before putting the article of clothing back on its rightful place upon its head. "Hello!" he said, a bright smile just partially obscured by the wide brim of his hat. The polite introduction was rather ruined by the way the girl fell over just before his appearance, it taking many years of noble etiquette for the man to prevent himself from shaking his head at the sight. "My apologies for the intrusion my dearest Lady, but this new world is no place for a young woman as yourself to be going out on her lonesome like so, not in the midst of this wilderness. I dare say it is rather lucky you happened upon me rather than some ne'erdowell of which I am now sure there are many out here."

She looked up at the man as he spoke to her. For a moment, his voice sounded muffled and strange. Then she saw two of him and the world started rocking like her long boat on the waves of the sea. Were those... whispers she heard? Surely it was her mind playing tricks upon her. Lexxi closed her eyes for a few moments and his voice became clearer. Lucky, he'd said.
She didn't even know who she was and he was smiling at her. She frowned at him and said, "do you have water, sir? I am so... so very thirsty," she said, sticking her tongue to the roof of her mouth momentarily as she stood back up and looked at the man in obvious curiosity.

Vidkun kept the smile upon his face, but his expression adjusted slowly to reflect the man's curiosity in the subject of his gaze. Something was off about her, and with her posed question it became very clear. However he sprung into action before that dropping down to one knee after a short but almost balletic skip across a rock to close the distance. "Oh no-no-no-no-no, this shan't do in the slightest my dear." He removed the waterskin from his belt and opened the leather item.
The man's spare hand would go upon her chin to push her head back and then lower her chin to open Lexxi's mouth. With the other hand he would gingerly squeeze out a series of small drops across her lips and then a few more upon her tongue. He had dealt with dehydrated folk before, and in the instance of a girl that seemed to be of a rather foppish past he wanted her to first be reinvigorated by these droplets, such that she would be responsive enough to not choke when he gave her the rest of the water. "Shhh, shhh, slowly."

The water was so sweet on her tongue and lips that she cried a little, then soon she was drinking and it was as if a thorn had been pulled from her temple. Her belly cramped even still, but not horribly so. When she was through, there was a renewed clarity in her eyes that slowly returned, those green orbs clearing some. "Thank you," she said softly. She was well spoken, and he might notice that her clothing had once been finery, but now was in tatters.
She was dirty, tired, dehydrated and hungry, much like most of the people that showed up on the island, perhaps.

"It was my pleasure." The man said as a matter of course. Once the last of the water was exhausted he ran over to the stream he had passed before, taking off rings and then the glove of a hand to momentarily cup a small amount of the water and taste it to make sure it wasn't foul. Satisfied he refilled the waterskin before returning to Lexxi such that the girl could have another drink knowing this one swig would only alleviate dehydration in the most immediate term.
"If you'll pardon the brusqueness you don't look very well my dear. Why did you wander off the shores? Lady like yourself should have known better, to go along the coast until other folk washed up."

She took the water gratefully, swigging until she was satisfied. She could feel the ache ebbing just a little from her bones. He was lecturing her then, and she stared up at him with a wrinkled brow. "I know no such thing... there is little I know." She looked perplexed.
"I woke up one day and was surrounded by mists so thick... Ahh... I... Don't remember." She moved to sit up when she was able to, though it ached to do so still." She didn't remember who she was before the mist and had no clue where she was or how long she had been traveling.
She moved to pull her knees to her chest, looking down in chagrin for her lack of memory. As if it was her fault. It wasn't.
"I would give you an introduction, but... I couldn't tell you who I am if I wanted to."

The man chuckled at the Lady saying there was little she knew. For a moment he believed her to be alluding to many a philosopher who said things such as "the only thing I know is that I know nothing." But as she went on the mirth very quickly evaporated from the man's expression. "Oh dear." He managed, cocking his head on one side.
Vidkun drummed his fingers on his lap in thought for a few moments before again speaking. "Well m'Lady, my name is Vidkun. Would you object if I took a look at your head? A strike it could explain your lapsed memory."

"You may..." she said, quietly. She had a rather nasty wound to the back of her head that was mostly healed, but scarred. It was as if she had fallen, as it did not look like something that would be from a weapon. The girl was serious when she said she didn't know who she was.

"Wonderful!" Vidkun's expertise in medicine was quite extensive when he thought about it, alas in the past the majority of its application was in rather untraditional fields, namely torture. Examining the location of the strike there wasn't too much to learn, and the wound was healed enough that there was no point aggravating it more with any sort of treatment. Well, that was a waste of time he supposed. "Checked about your person? Nothing to say of your past? No lockets perhaps, or anything else of the sort?"

"None..." she said softly. Her eyes closed for a moment and her face kind of did that thing faces do when one is about to cry... but she didn't. She kind of just sighed and then looked at Vidkun with a perplexed expression. "I only remember the mist... ahh, so thick. Just... floating in a boat in the mist. I swear it almost made me go mad. I thought I saw faces. I don't recall how long I have been wandering." She smoothed her hands over the tattered remnants of her skirts.

"None you say." Vidkun muttered, rubbing his temples. He had come out here for a matter of some import, but he supposed getting this lady well could work parallel to learning of this region of woods. "The mist. Well, that seems to be a common theme. You haven't seen anyone else about since? Anyone before me?" the man queried, standing up and offering her a hand to help her get upright. "Well, today is your lucky day to be an amnesiac m'Lady, for the world that once was is now immaterial to the world of now. It's gone, and here all begin anew."

She took the offered hand and grimaced a little when she stood up. She flushed at the sorry state she seemed to be in, clothes ruined by both surf and turf. Her mouth curled downward and she squinted against a wave of dizziness, barely upright for a moment until she was able to breathe through it. Then his words hit her like a ton of stones. Her world was gone... She would never truly know who she was, would she?
"I see," she said faintly.

Despite being upright, the girl still seemed dazed. Vidkun tried to smile to her to show it was all alright, though he doubted the efficacy of this. "Do you need more water?" he asked as she was at last steady on her legs.
But when she spoke up Vidkun frowned. "You do not seem reassured."
