Biography: History: Lady Faisine was born in the lost kingdom of Verri, but she was raised in a cloister (Not nuns, but yes, women who were very religious nevertheless). She has little to no memory of Verri and spent most of her days learning to be a lady... To speak like a lady, to embroider, to sing and pluck a tune on a lute like a lady... How very dull and drab. She had, nevertheless, been pampered, for her father had donated generously and made it clear that she was to be a lady, not a servant. She had her own servants, they did everything for her. The cloister was raided and many lives were lost, and now she finds herself traveling alone for parts unknown.
She has known lots of war.
Then she met her mate, Cairex, and they set off into the Usque, only to be torn apart by the cataclysm...

She offered some dried meat to him without him needing to ask. Assuming he took it, she chewed slowly and quietly on her meal. Then she said, "I have been here for at least two months that I can count, and I don't recall how long I was in the long boat for... But yes, days have passed. And nights." Her eyes shifted away from him and she took another bite, staring off.
Her mouth curled downward and she chewed thoughtfully before peering again at Anatolius. When she was done with that piece, she sighed and said, "I have much on my mind... I wonder how many more of us are out there and I think... I think that I would like to look for more people. I want to see how safe this place is first..." She paused and then stood, unfolding herself gracefully. She then moved closer, only to stop within arm's length again.
"I would be honored if you walked beside me. Khepri too, but that is up to her. There have to be more people out there and... And fate has a way of being strange indeed." She paused again and let her eyes search his, "And I've been wondering something, but I suppose I haven't asked the right way yet... Did you... feel something for me? No, do you?" She wasn't smiling as she asked. "Did you feel the way you did about Dantess because he didn't deserve me but you didn't think you did either so you didn't say anything? Why was my life so important to you that you saved me and let me think it was him? Why didn't you come to me and tell me it was you?" Tears seemed to be gathering in her eyes.

For but half a second Anatolius tried to play the gallant gentleman leaving the foodstuffs to a lady, but he knew that he was this close to making a fool of himself by refusing when holding in a growl of the stomach was getting harder and harder by the second. He would take the offered meat and chew viciously, making sure that the food was reduced to the smallest pieces it could be before swallowing such that as much nourishment could be retrieved from it as possible. Though a settlement was near, there was no guarantee they'd have food to spare there and hence he couldn't just devour the pieces in gulps.
"Days? Hmmm. Much time for reflection in that time I can see." he would say, chuckling faintly, the last "heh" seeming like more of a stressed sigh than an expression of good humour. "I'll likely keep traveling too. Even if there is some paradise of this settlement I know that there will be those not as fortunate who need guidance to such a place. Besides, I doubt there is anything there for the likes of me. I think its too late for myself to have home be anything but the open sky, my carpet the grass. A palace shan't replace freedom, marble pillars the trees. I'm plagiarizing from a poem I heard once, truth be told, but it is endearing to me." His head fell as he stared at the grass beneath his now crossed legs, thinking. "The honour would be all mine, M'Lady. I wish to do the good work of keeping people safe, though I fear looking as I am in this new world many would see harm rather than salvation coming. With you I reckon it will be a lot simpler."
Anatolius cursed as his tongue bled after he bit it hearing the question that was posed momentarily afterwards. Brows joined as he stumbled for words, the man's pitch rising almost an octave from its resting baritone. "M'Lady I... I was educated about the ongoings of Medan and Goraia. In a desert of villainy and horror you were an oasis of virtue, a paragon. Something to protect. Would you have even considered requiting such? You were of royal lineage, I hadn't thought you would even think of humouring a wretch like me. I...." his eyes wandered about the scene, only some moments later meeting those of his counterpart as he sought some answer in them. Perhaps the second cataclysm had washed away all the import of title, lineage, and all other such things. Perhaps now the only thing that mattered was the two of them and it was a chance to take?

She had plenty to spare. In fact, she had dried as much venison as possible after hunting. She would not waste a thing. She paused in her own chewing and said, "I have plenty to eat. The deer here are not afraid of us and it is much easier to hunt right now." She nodded. Indeed, she passed along one of the bags she'd stuffed to the brim with pieces of dried venison. "Eat your fill, Anatolius."
With the next words, she nodded softly and then after a lengthy silence, she went on, "Then we shall go together," with a firm nod.
And then she listened to his fumbling words, her expression changing only subtly when he confessed in a way. She said, "The kingdom Camilla and I hail from was torn apart by war. While Camilla chose to go with tradition and marry a man who owned part of her rightful lands to keep it in the family, I chose to wander like an idiot into the arms of a stranger. But if I hadn't done that, I wouldn't have met you. Anyway, I am only princess because of birth, but there is nothing to be princess over anymore, no more kingdom."
She paused and shifted so she was facing him, sitting on her knees. Her eyes searched his, glassy still but the tears had not shed. They stayed suspended in her lower lashes. For a long time, she was silent, and then she leaned in and brushed her lips across his ever so lightly.

After sating his hunger Anatolius did seem in higher energy if not spirit, he was less reserved as he felt the energy to take on the world come to him yet again. Eventually he ceased, quenching thirst with his waterskin. It wasn't a feast, but it would do just fine.
His expression relaxed a little as Faisine agreed to go across the world together. "Good." was all he could offer. He listened to the response of Faisine about history, his brow furrowing as for but a moment he struggle to see where she was going with the short speech. "It was innocence that made you wander, not foolishness. Though it may have lead to an outcome you would have preferred yourself not see, it is something to be cherished. Never regret the mind unsullied, even if this bliss was ever so brief."
As she leaned in and for just an instant of time they touched, Anatolius exhaled. He reached around and from his belt retrieved a small nub of wood with a flat length of iron along it. His lip trembled a little as his eyes flittered between it and his counterpart. "Its the story I was told by my father. Maybe about himself, maybe me. There are... men, they believe in ranks, and do not comprehend their own habit of killing. They will be sniffling, suffering, and nobody will know why, for beneath all they want is mercy — that they will likely never get. Thus these men they shouldn't ever show it, it'll only be worse. He left me his shield, this is all that is left of it. I trusted those words, to not give anyone the beneath. I...." He paused to pinch the bridge of his nose, eyes reddening slowly. "Even to my wife of past, I never afforded her the luxury of trust. But with all that once was gone I might finally be free." He reached out a hand for his counterpart to grasp. "Behold, beholden's heart in thou hands."

Her hand moved to grasp his when he offered and she did not smile or react with anything but the slight lift of her chin. "Second chances," she said softly, her eyes finally shutting. Her calloused digits gripped at his hand for dear life and she said, "And same to you, Anatolius. Same to you." Then she pulled away and stood.
Her face was somewhat red at the moment.
"Trust is a good thing to come by these days, that is for sure. You have mine." She nodded softly and then turned to look at the lake, wondering how much longer it would be to get to their destination and where Khepri was.
Faisine was starting to worry.

"Thank you." he said, staring down into his hands. "Thank you. He repeated, staring on in contemplation for some time. Eventually he arose, and joined her. "I have much less confidence in what the future might hold now compared to my past. But I feel more certain in that it holds good things.
He looked a few times between Faisine and the scene at large. "Come. Let's make our way to safety."

His words finally won a smile from her. Not just any smile, but a smile reserved for the ones who were special to her. The unguarded kind with warm and dancing eyes glinting just so in the waning sunlight. Faisine said, "You're welcome. And I'd like to think there are good things in the future too. She turned and reached her hand to touch his once he was standing, then tentatively curled around his again for a few, long moments.
Her hand squeezed his and she turned away once more, though those tapered digits lingered before she pulled away, lending him the opportunity to grip her hand if he chose, perhaps even deliberately so. The former princess said, "Aye, let's go."
