Infirmary Tent
Located at the outskirts of the makeshift "town", the infirmary is a large, heavy-duty tent. Rows of cots line the interior, with a small number partitioned off by curtains. Nurses, medics, and orderlies mill about like bees, tending to the sick and wounded. Dr. Indys Vulpin presides over the whole affair, performing surgeries and doling out the increasingly limited supply of medications. The settlement's graveyard is behind the tent, currently empty. A number of mannequins line the side of the tent, built in the form of shapely women and dressed in the finest silks. Their faces are formed skillfully out of clay with soulless eyes that stare unblinking upon the unfortunate patients.

It had been a long day. However, it had not been without its upsides. One of her patients had a hunter for a father. Said hunter had brought her a whole boar. Life was hard but oh so sweet. She was cooking it of course. Food thankfully had been coming in for all of them, maybe she could resume normal meals again. She wasn't eating all of it, there were still others to feed, but she was going to eat the whole body.
She whistled happily as she carved off the legs to cook a little more over the flames as she slipped the rest of the pig off the spit. She set it aside to cool as she went to serve fresh ham to some of her weaker patients who didn't have people out giving them meals. It was a good day...and mmm, it'd be so lovely when that ham cooled. She thought happy thoughts to herself as she slipped the young their meal. Thankfully some tents had been set up, and she didn't have to constantly make sure they were covered up.
Once that was done she was able to slither back over and eat her own meal. Once finally full for the first time in over a month Karen yawned. It had been a long day, she slowly curled up into a pile and started to doze off. The day ended here for her, tomorrow would start anew, but today was quite done, quite done, and quite lovely.

Appearance: Rain has medium tan skin, earthy brown eyes and darkest brown hair that has been kept in long braids. A collection of teeth and fangs from her successful hunts have been sewn into the length of some of her braids. She wears warpaint that denote her tribe and family lineage in terms of pattern and color.
She mostly wears clothes made of leather, fur and dyed woven plant fibre that has been carefully sewn together. She typically wears a headress using the head fur/skull/antlers of the animals commonly found within the season.
Equipment: Her weapons consists of two daggers that that can be joined and placed in the same sheath. They have symbols etched into the handle and base of the blade.
A small flask of blood that has been treated with herbs and oil to prevent coagulation.
Pouch of herbs.
Skills and Abilities: Hunting and tracking: She usually hunts creatures of a bestial nature, but it not necessarily limited to animals.
Dancing: Due to the nature of her Magic, learning the proper base skills to dance was a must. She specializes in an acrobatic form of weapon dancing. She can use swords and spear/staves in her routines though her preferred is her two dagger technique.
Simple weaponry skills: handy for all things self defense related, hunting related and dance related (See Dancing with Dagger).
Survivalist: They aren't fancy, but they are knowledgeable about what is needed to survive such as fire-making, shelter building, how to clothe and feed herself.
Dancing with Daggers(Ritual blood magic):
This ritual magic required both a component of blood to be poured onto her daggers and specific movements to be completed for an effect to be generated. Missing a step or getting interrupted will prevent the magic from taking effect. Once the effect is done the blood will "burn" away and require more blood before more effects can be completed.
Effects:
-Hunter's Breath: Rain points her daggers tips towards each other so that her arms form a loose circle where she will perform several increasingly fast spins either moving or in place. After, these spins are completed, she will break the circle while the other is kept at the level of her midsection while she slows her spins till she comes to a full stop. Successfully completing this set will give her an increase in her vigor/energy and allow her to feel significantly less exhaustion in the moment. Adequate rest will be needed after the effect wears off depending how strenuous her activities were while the effect was in place.
-Rage of the hound: The movements are short abrupt and fast, while she stomps her foot on the ground with a snarling expression. The movements are more flexible in style but she needs to keep stomping the beat long enough to go in blood rage. Blood rage will make her hyper focus on a single target, and make her strikes faster and stronger. She is less likely to notice pain in this state but will become acutely aware after it wears off or upon target death.
Blood's Eye: Rain must be able to complete her routine in the four directions. This is a slower more meditative dance that will put her in a trance like state in order to view the memories of the blood her blades are coated with. Depending on freshness and quantity the memories may be clearer and abundant, or fuzzy and sparse.
Wrath of the Ancestors: Has to manage to finish a dance in a circle and end where she started. Once the circle is complete all blood on her person, including her own becomes highly acidic to others and may leave burns and disfigurement to any that comes into contact till the effect ends.
Sickness Curse: A dance that required her to balance her daggers upright (By the handle) in her palms while she dances in place. The blood component must also be from the intended target, and for the target to get cut once dance is completed for chance of effect. If the effect takes, then the target will get an infection that can include high fever, Vomiting, delirium, sluggishness, Pains and if left untreated; possible death. If The Target has a decent immune system they may not feel any effect, or will get symptoms but eventually get better with proper tending on the wound itself. Disinfection the wound early enough can also prevent malady.
Dance of Stagnation: A fairly fluid dance that requires her to move loosely, meaning her daggers cut less deeply when they strike while she is performing this dance. If she manages to cut the target during this routine, the target will get a sudden onset of Anemia symptoms, which include Fatigue, weakness, dizziness ect.
These effects are difficult to mix together without unfortunate side effect, that being "Blood Curse". Blood Curse causes a burning sensation in the individual's veins all throughout their bodies It is an incapacitating kind of pain that Almost all Blood Dancers usually pass out from long before the effect wears off.
Biography: From When she was a little girl, Rain has only really known her village and the friendly faces of most of her fellow tribe. They had a mostly secure place in the heard of the forest, not far from rivers and lakes. They Were always big on hunting sport for both food and fun, though even if they came back empty handed, they'd still have the food from the field to not go hungry. She remembers the day she was old enough to get her face painted and how proud her mother was when she and the other kids all began learning the steps to their dances, while her father was in charge of teaching them to hunt. She remembers how one of the Elders, a braggart, showed his scars and made up wild stories about how he got them, while his long time friend and brother rolled his eyes, knowing the real reason was because he'd bailed his ass out of trouble more time than he even remembers by now.
She remembered when she she had performed her successful spell after so many failed attempts, falls and missteps. To boot, for all her trouble she was able to bring back to the village her first catch, a young deer they proceeded to cook up and celebrate the milestone. The day after, her mother tearfully told her that there was nothing more she could teach her, and that as for the rest, she should heed to the Ancestors and find it with her heart.
She remembered some bitterly cold winters after, a few faces passing away in peace, And her spending much of her time communing with her ancestors. She was a full woman, her village relied on her now, and as one of their best she did all she could to provide and teach. She had been in the middle of a hunt when the flood waters came...

Rain didn't exactly had the greatest bedside manner, but then she wasn't a doctor or otherwise. Still, she attempted to reassure Perkins that he would be okay in the end of it all. She didn't promise he'd be whole, but he'd at least be okay. The Infirmary tent wasn't a place she stepped into previously. Her health had been solid, and other than some bites and some burns she was in pretty good shape. Maybe to others it would look more like open sores, but in all honesty she didn't think about how it would look considering she knew the real story. To boot, with her face paint half melted off from bilge water in streaks of white, red and even some mixture that became pink, she had likely startled some people on the way along with the rugged but practical nature of her clothing.
The man she brought with her however was a bit worse off. For his sake she would trouble the workers inside the tent. She pushed the flap of the tent aside and urged her companion inside. "I come bearing a patient. Tend to him." She announced bluntly. The dancer wasn't one hundred percent sure who called the shots here, nor did she care, but while she waited for someone to step up, she'd glanced about the arrangement. The dead-stared mannequins was the first thing that caught her attention and she looked unsettled by them. They looked like people, but clearly were not people. The fabric on their clothing was unfamiliar, oddly shiny like the sun reflecting on still water. It looked very impractical, however, how could someone dance or hunt properly in such garb? How could they harvest, forage or tend to their livestock?
Her curiosity go the better of her and a hand ran along the fine silk, a texture that was unfamiliar but was at least pleasant to the touch. Seemed too delicate, though which was a shame.

Between the sailors' unwillingness to help and the uncooperative nature of the tides, it took longer than expected for Rain and Perkins to make it ashore. Nobody seemed very eager to assist (or even approach) the pair, and it had taken quite a bit of cajoling, bribery, and threats of bodily harm before an old one-eyed ropemaker finally agreed to row them ashore. By the time they'd arrived, Perkins' condition had deteriorated significantly. The unfortunate man's eye had gone entirely bloodshot, the worm within still visible as it squirmed and twisted. He'd become feverish and delirious, mumbling gibberish under his breath as he staggered around. Walking was difficult, and he leaned heavily on Rain as they made their way across the beach into the infirmary tent.
The atmosphere within the tent was humid and warm, thick with the acrid scent of medicines and tinctures. As they stepped in, they'd be struck by how busy the whole place was. Nurses and orderlies bustled about, treating all manner of maladies and injuries under the watchful eye of the mannequins. None seemed to pay the pair of them much heed at first, leaving Rain to feel the mannequin's silken clothing. The fine fabric likely would have cost a fortune back in the old empire. Here, such a thing would be impossible to come by and was likely almost priceless.
"Do you often feel the need to go around feeling ladies' chests?" asked a smooth voice from behind Rain. Dr. Indys Vulpin stood mere inches behind her, gazing at her through the eyeholes of his mask.
"My dear Ms. Starling is too proper to make a scene," he continued, "but I feel that I must defend her virtue. It's really quite rude, you know. But oh, I see that you've brought me a patient! A repeat one, at that. Hello there, Mr. Perkins."
Perkins' eyes widened in shock as he recognized the surgeon, the color draining from his face. He stumbled backwards, collapsing on the ground as his leg gave out from under him. Chuckling, Vulpin knelt down by his side, spreading the man's eyelid open with his fingertips.
"Now then," he said. "Let's have a look. My goodness, a worm in the eye! How ever did you manage this, Mr. Perkins? You're in here so often, one might start to think you like me. Come now, let's get you to a bed."
Clicking his tongue, he summoned two burly orderlies to drag the struggling Perkins to one of the bloodstained cots. Perkins stared blearily at Rain, blinking and shaking his head as he struggled to focus through the spots in his vision.
"Rain," he gasped. "Rain, please! You can't let them do this to me!"
"Don't you worry," said the surgeon, pulling on a curved metal implement from his pocket. "We'll get him fixed right up. Hold him still, lads."

At the sudden voice addressing her, Rain had turned and jerked back from the beast that was addressing her. She could have mistaken it for a monster if it didn't speak so politely, but the fact he snuck up on her still made her want to punch him all the same. "I wasn't touching a lady's chest, I was feeling the clothes on this strange doll." she bluntly corrected him, but he'd soon shifted his attention to the man which had been leaning against her as his strength was failing him. How quickly he'd broken out into a fever was worrying, but that apparently took a back seat the second he saw the doctor. Perkins had reacted too quick for her to keep him upright and the man had fallen, but without prompting at least the medic was already looking at the offending injury.
Perkins' begging had been enough to make her understand this was exactly the man he'd feared. The large orderlies doing the doctor's bidding didn't discourage her from not only following, but placing herself between the man who seemed to be taking twisted pleasure from this and the terrified patient by blocking the way with her arm. "You will wait and explain your methods and reasons." Rain demanded firmly. "I will only accept him losing his eye as a last resort."

Vulpin paused at Rain's words, looking down at the slender arm blocking his path to the hysterical Perkins. He rarely saw people so protective over his patients, and the sight amused him. Who did she think he was, telling him how to do his job? It was sad, really. People rarely understood the work of an artist like himself, seeing only barbarism where he saw beauty. Chuckling, he rested a hand on her wrist and gently pushed her arm out of the way.
"That's awfully rude, now," he said. "Awfully reductive to call a lady a strange doll, isn't it? My goodness, one might even consider it objectification. I'll let it slide this time, since you seem to be under quite a bit of stress, but I'd ask you to use caution in the future. A more hot-headed man than myself may have demanded a duel."
Behind Rain, Perkins' screams were cut off as an orderly stuffed a rag in the poor man's mouth. The other began to strap him down to the cot, wrapping thick leather bands over the man's body to hold him down flat against the bloodstained sheets. He thrashed, but was clearly still weak from the fever and unable to do much to fight back.
"My methods and reasons should be simple enough for even someone outside of the medical profession to understand," continued Vulpin, spinning the metal instrument around between his fingers. "This unfortunate man has a worm in his eye. Given enough time, the worm will chew its way into his brain, either killing him or making him even more of a dullard than he already is. There is no way to remove the worm without removing the eye, and so it must be done. Have you any questions? Suggestions, perhaps? You seem to know better than I do. Perhaps you ought to be the head surgeon in my place."

There was a loud annoyed hiss from outside the tent as a large lamia poked her human head in, for it seemed she was a half breed of some anaconda. She grumbled, "Hey if you're offering Vulpins, I'll gladly take you up on it," she shook her head slithering in, "Creator almighty you take way too much pleasure in all of this, eye worms?" She deftly curled past the two of them and took a good long look at the man's eyes, "Ah, nice, eye worms how quaint, well my name is Karen Lassenger for your information ma'am. My...co-worker here is more adapt in surgery, seems to take a bit of a hedonistic pleasure in it," she said lightly bopping Vulpin on the head in a mixture of annoyance and friendly tolerance, seeing as they'd been trapped within close quarters for the entirety of the Depravity's ride to this new found land.
The snake lady continued with a frown, "I have the herbs on me to work up a paste, but it won't be pleasant. I'll need his eyes to stay open so it'll take full effect and it will most certainly burn," she said frowning deeper, "I'd offer painkiller and knock him out, but I really can't spare any for something as basic as this with how many sick we get. Best kept for the children that we end up with honestly. I'll need to strap him down and get something to keep his eyes open for a full twenty four hours while the paste takes effect. Can you two oblige?" she exclaimed turning to face them with a nurse's smile.

"So, there is absolutely no other way." Rain let the statement hang heavily between her and the head surgeon. She stared the man down, having a one sided battle of wills with a man who acted as if he'd already won before it even began, and that alone irritated her. Too used to having others defer to her judgement, it was rare for her to be so disregarded. Even worse than her bruised ego, Perkins would be losing another part of himself yet again.
With no argument to make, she turned toward the man in the bloody cot and moved around him to his opposite side. While the injured man's arms were strapped down, the dancer reached over and took his hand in hers. "This is going to be difficult, and its going to hurt, but try to focus on me. Think you can do that? I won't let him to anything more than he has to. Just squeeze my hand when it hurts." the reassurance was awkward, and honestly she didn't necessarily want to witness the doctor plucking out an eye, but leaving him there alone would have been crueler still after everyone had already been ready to leave him for dead.
As the Lamia-snake-woman appeared, Rain gave her a side eye, as if unsure what to make of her. Snakes were dangerous, people were also dangerous, snake people were probably doubly dangerous, yet this one was a doctor. It was a strange combination, and stranger still the way she chided the man. It almost seemed in good humor, but she couldn't imagine anyone getting friendly with this man, at least not really. A snake for a different kind of snake she supposed, but the hunteress looked on with a frown as their bickering delayed treatment.
"Oblige if I must." her answer was short and curt, but better than actually nothing. Having two professional opinions from two different people she mistrusted to say the least left her in a between-a-rock-and-a-hard-place situation.
"You may begin." she gave a reluctant nod to the masked man. Her free hand settled over Perkins' forehead that was still burning up and she closed her eyes. "This man is not of ours, but in my name, ancestors protect his soul as it has endured this far. Protect him from evil, protect him from harm, And should his fate come to end, welcome him with open arms." the prayer was spoken softly, unclear whether anyone was really meant to hear it or not, but alas she believed in the power of these spoken words nonetheless.

Roleplay posts: 43
Appearance: Few have seen Dr. Vulpin's face, which he generally keeps hidden behind a plain white mask. He alleges that it's for cleanliness purposes, but rumors abound that he uses it to hide a horribly scarred visage. His rather thin and lanky body is typically hidden by his voluminous dark red robes, colored strategically to hide the bloodstains from his work.
Skills and Abilities: Dr. Vulpin is known for his medical prowess: few can amputate a leg with such speed and enthusiasm. He's skilled with bonesaws, stitches, and scalpels and possesses a vast knowledge of ailments and medicines.
Biography: Nobody's quite sure where (or if) Dr. Vulpin actually studied medicine, but none can argue with the results. Most of his patients end up surviving, although they are frequently left with fewer limbs than they came in with. His medical skills have been invaluable on the long voyage, although his eccentricities and odd hobbies have made him rather unpopular among the crew and passengers.

Vulpin flinched as that insufferable snake-woman appeared, bopping him on the head and prattling on about some manner of folk remedy. What was she talking about? Shaking his head, he let out an irritated tsk and slapped her hand away. Who did she think she was, anyways? He'd about had it with her disrespect, but it wouldn't do to fire her in front of the patients.
"My subordinate is mistaken," he said, emphasizing the nature of their professional relationship as he positioned himself between her and Rain. "Pastes will do little to help your friend, as the worm is within the eye. Besides, having an eye open for that long may well lead to infections worse than simply removing the eye to begin with. Go tend to the children, Lassenger. I've work to do."
Nodding to Rain, he twirled the metal probe and stepped up beside Perkins. The young man was beside himself with fear, but seemed to gain some comfort from Rain's touch. He gave her hand a quick squeeze, thankful for her reassurance as Vulpin spread his eyelids open with thumb and forefinger.
"Don't you worry now, my lad," he said, chuckling. "This will only take a moment. Eyes forward, don't move your head too much. Everything will be fine, so long as you don't intend to make a career as a juggler."
Perkins' scream was muffled by the makeshift gag, but the way his grip clenched down on Rain's hand told her everything she needed to know about how he was doing. Vulpin whistled as he worked, but completed the task mercifully quickly. The eyeball fell into a small glass jar of alcohol with a soft plop, the worm within squirming and thrashing as it died. The whole ordeal took less than a minute, after which Vulpin packed the empty socket with gauze and gave Perkins a reassuring pat on the head.
"There there, my lad," he said. "That wasn't so bad, was it? I'll be keeping this fascinating specimen for my collection, if you don't mind. Don't worry now, I hear eye patches are in style these days. Even the captain wears one! Humans wouldn't have two eyes if one wasn't meant as a spare, after all."
Turning to Rain, he patted her on the shoulder as well, his gloved hands sticky with drying blood. He left a bloody handprint where his gloves touched her, although it didn't look especially out-of-place with the rest of the stains.
"I'm impressed," he said. "Many ladies would have swooned at such a sight. Perhaps you'd be interested in a career in nursing? You seem to have the knack for it."

Her hair is a lovely light blonde, and there are hints of dyed pink at the ends from before the Event. Her face is typically always smiling and her eyes are a warm hazel.
She can typically be found wearing white nursing gear, and a she carries a plethora of medicine, medical gear, and plenty of needles.

Skills and Abilities: Being a constrictor she is very strong in her tail, but she's not exactly the most fit in her upper body.
She does have two fangs in her mouth replacing her canines, but they're not poisonous and they do not do anything besides help eating seeing as she needs one full meal every month minimum.
Most of her vital organs are actually in her tail, which does help stab wounds, but thankfully that has yet to occur.
Biography: She's a traveling doctor and used to travel around the lands and do odd medical jobs in the villages she found while roaming in the outlands.

Karen's elfish face twisted a little, her smile drooping as her medical opinion was completely glossed over by both of them. She looked down at the ground, "I see, well I suppose it's your choice in the end what option you choose." Her long mildly plushed tail curled about her torso making a pile, "I'm not a surgeon so I suppose you would prefer that form of remedy," she said aloud trying more to reassure herself then them it seemed.
She grabbed her blonde fishtailed hair and began to toy with it as she watched Vulpin pop out the eye. She looked down as it was deftly tossed into a jar. The fact that the lass went with Vulpins over her seemed to be quite a blow to her self esteem, considering she didn't have creepy dolls or an obsession with cutting up people. She only wanted to help. Karen frowned a little pulling on her hair a little more.
Although upon hearing the compliment Vulpin gave her jaw dropped, "Hey! I do plenty of nurse work, I've been doing that work for weeks! You never said anything to me! Do you know how much vomit I've had to clean up over the past month? Most of the nurses quit! I don't even get paid, I'm volunteer!" She said in indignation, granted her voice wasn't really raised, she was just a little annoyed.
She slowly began to wash off the blood off Perkins as she rambled in annoyance with a damp rag she picked up from another spot in the tent with the tip of her tail. She sighed, "Sir, would you like to be held outside with the rest of the patients? You can either stay in here with him or outside with me, both options are probably just as safe seeing as you've been treated so it's simply a matter of preference."

Rain clenched her jaw as Perkins gave her hand a death grip. She kept her face calm and stony, staring straight ahead as her hand endured a surprisingly crushing strength for a man weakened by fear and fever. The procedure didn't last long, but certainly for both she and most definitely Perkins it felt like it dragged on. She happened to look down to gauge how far along the process was, but unfortunately it happened to be just as she eye came out. It wasn't the first time she'd seen this, but those times hadn't been pleasant either, making a slight face at the sight till she averted her gaze away.
Her hand squeezed around Perkins' gently to reassure him she was still there to look after his best interest, at least until he got his wits back about him. The way Vulpin slapped his hand against her shoulder caught her off-guard, but also the Dancer glanced back with some level of contempt. "I'd rather do the butchering, thank you." There was a moment where she was observing the bloody hand print on her shoulder. She would never say it out loud, but it would have probably made a good tattoo. Too bad her village artist didn't get washed up with her.
The harshness in Karen's voice as she argued her worth to the head surgeon had Rain frown slightly. There was a time and place to argue pay, she wasn't wholly sure this was it. She watched the woman clean off the patient like a hawk, just to be sure she wasn't taking the opportunity to taste him. "He is going to need a proper bath. We were both in worm infested water, and after being bitten by so many worms I worry of infection, at least for him. Already he had a fever, I'm not sure he could endure it." Rain spoke up. "Who is more qualified to observe him?"

Vulpin gave the indignant snake-woman a dismissive wave, ignoring her ranting. He had little patience for people like her, the type who got too uppity and thought they knew better than he did. Who was she to tell him, the chief medical officer of this whole settlement, how to do his job? Besides, she wasn't even a paid member of his staff. Rain's comment, however, made him chuckle.
"Butchery?" he repeated, his voice amused. "Why, miss, you wound me! Surgery is an art form, the most delicate of skills. It's such a strange thing, if you think about it. The common folk view swordplay as an art, but surgery as butchery. Only the educated realize that the opposite is true. Butchery indeed. However...you seem to be the discerning type, miss. Perhaps I could teach you the art of surgery. You look to be the type who could appreciate the beauty in it, see the wonder in an artful incision. Would you like to learn? It's been a very long time indeed since I took on a student, but this island is a time for new beginnings for all."
Glancing over at Perkins, he rested a gloved hand on the young man's forehead. Perkins had fallen unconscious, lying ashen and pale in the cot.
"A bath," continued Vulpin, "sounds like a marvelous idea. I've always said that the restorative powers of a nice long soak is one of the least-appreciated miracles of modern medicine. I take one myself each night, just to recover my strength for a new day's exertions. It's quite invigorating. A bath he shall have, and perhaps he may avoid infections. The scourge of surgeons, I always say. Abelforth! Melinda! Please see to it that Mr. Perkins here gets a nice hot bath."
"Right away, Doctor," chorused a pair of nurses. Rolling Perkins onto a stretcher, they carried him off to the corner of the tent, where a rudimentary bathtub had been crafted from one of the ship's large water casks. Vulpin watched him go for a moment before turning back to Rain, wiping the blood off of his hands with a white handkerchief.
"You don't seem too concerned about infections yourself," he noted. "Why might that be? You were in the same water, were you not? Just because you lack worms in your eyes doesn't mean that you're entirely in the clear."

She smiled her elf features looking quite friendly, "Can I ask your name ma'am?"

"You misunderstand. I am a hunter by trade. I indeed do the butchering." Rain corrected Vulpin's offense with a raised finger. "There are those who are soft and who'se skills are better suited in the home and those who are not content to do so. I'd not be content lingering here while monsters and beast run afoul." It was blunt, but self-aware and honest in her disinterest for his proposal. "Besides, Any of your helpers in this tent would be better suited."
The dancer's eyes glazed over as the doctor spouted his self-important nonsense about baths, not regretting turning the man's offer down. Instead she watched as the nurses took Perkins away to clean him up. She hoped they'd be gentle with the unconscious man, but given he was unconscious, at least he wouldn't be in pain for a while. By the time he'd wake up he'd likely be redressed and resting in a cleaner cot than this one.
Her attention returned to the head of medical staff here as he inquired for her own sake, followed by Karen giving her two cents. They both seemed far too eager for her to have worms. "I can assure you, the worms are gone. I turned my blood into liquid fire, and the worms have burned or melted, as I assume anything that isn't of my own would." Liquid fire of course stood for "acid" but likely she lacked the word for it where she was from and that had been the closest descriptor. "I used my blood to drive most of Perkins' worms away as he was not taught this skill, however I could do naught for his eye hence we are here." she explained as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
As Karen asked for her name, the painted woman tilted her head as if considering giving her name. In a bid not to be overly rude, she made a quick gesture of crossing her wrists above her head, and then moving her hands apart and down while her fingers made small movements as if depicting a rain. "Rain. That is my given name. Yours?"

Dr. Indys Vulpin
Established

"I've always considered a job well done to be its own thanks," said Vulpin, meeting the snake-woman's glare. "If you're out here looking for thanks from other people, have you really done your job well? Young people these days, I swear. So needy."
Turning back to Rain, Vulpin nodded appreciatively. He'd never been a big hunter himself, but he could see the value in such a profession. In fact, perhaps this could be a good thing. He'd need some animals hunted soon enough, and knowing a skilled tracker would be invaluable for his upcoming artistic endeavors. She didn't seem to be paying him much attention, but he didn't overly mind. After all, he'd had plenty of practice talking at similar glassy-eyed stares and vacant expressions. Behind him, the nurses removed Perkins' clothes and lowered the unconscious man unceremoniously into the bath, the water turning pink with blood.
"A hunter, you say?" asked Vulpin. "Well now, I may see fit to call upon you in the future, then. And turning your own blood into liquid fire...my my, you're the talented sort. Where did you learn to do something like that? Usually when people come to me complaining that their blood has turned to fire, it's generally seen as a bad thing. You don't seem especially bothered, though. Such self-control. I'm impressed, I must say. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must be off. Please rest assured, our dear friend Mr. Perkins will be as well cared for as he was the last time he set foot in my infirmary. Good day, Miss Rain."
With that, Vulpin wandered off, vanishing into the partitioned "office" area of the infirmary tent. It was time for his midday glass of wine, an appointment that he never missed.
