Once night comes around Skarlet makes her way down the coast until she finds the Isran camp. She lowers her hood and looks for the Command Tent to find who's in charge. On the way she notices that the Isran flags here are different than the ones that were on her boat, what's up with these old style design? She was getting an uncanny feeling as she went further into the camp. "Is the commanding officer here? It's me, Princess Skarlet, my ship crashed some miles down the beach. I was heading back to the capital and my ship was attacked when were traveling through the mist." Skarlet enters the Command Tent and looks around to see who was here, Her eyes widen when she sees Lady Naoki . "Mother?" How was this possible? Was she dreaming? Still trapped in that coffin on the beach? Skarlet clutches her chest and falls onto her knees. "Are you haunting me? Or is this a dream? I..." Skarlet starts to cry and she lowers her head all the way to the ground, "I'm sorry I couldn't save you." Naoki is in the Command Tent late at night to retrieve her quill set, which she left there during the day but then found herself without when she went to journal. She was about to leave when she hears someone approaching, and stops. “Skarlet?” Putting the quills down, she approaches. “I’m—” As Skarlet falls to the ground, Naoki reflexively moves to comfort her, kneeling at her side. “Hey hey hey, I’m here, I’m alive, I’m alright.” She places a warm hand on Skarlet’s shoulder to console her. “Look, see?” With her other hand, she reaches up and pinches her ear. “Ow,” she winces in pain. “Definitely not a ghost. I’m fine, look. Are you okay?”

With Naoki now closer to her, she starts to sense the life in her, hearing a heartbeat, feeling body heat. This did seem to be reality, but how?
"If you really are here, something strange is going on... You're too young to be Empress Naoki." Skarlet stands back up with Naoki so she can inspect her better. Is this a clone? Someone had made a look-alike of Naoki in the past.
"You seem... Shorter than I remember." Actually though Skarlet was a few inches taller than she was last time Naoki had seen her. Her hair was long and tied into a low tidy ponytail, the fashion of her dress looked like some sort of military style with some pieces of a or on her legs, arms, and one shoulder. You may notice that her eyes seem older, leery, untrusting, she had dealt with a lot of trickery and betrayal by now in her life.
She remembers some of the old flags she's seen and starts to put together a theory. "If you really are Naoki, what was going on last time we were together?"

You may notice that her eyes seem older, leery, untrusting, she had dealt with a lot of trickery and betrayal by now in her life. She remembers some of the old flags she's seen and starts to put together a theory. "If you really are Naoki, what was going on last time we were together?" Naoki nods along, understanding. This isn’t the Skarlet she knew, but another, older-looking one. “Well, yes. Something very strange is going on, indeed. I have clues as to what, but let’s sit down. Let me talk at you and it may begin to make sense...” “I was returning to The Citadel when the world ended. It was, among other things, flooding…” Naoki relates, in brief, the events leading up to and the end of the world as she knew it. “...I was able to make it from there to The Depravity, where a number of folks had already boarded...” She continues, “...And we started fishing people out of the water. At first, it was the people of Port Silverion, then the city proper, then neighboring nations. Then, nations further beyond, some from Gauldin and so on, and eventually, we started finding people from other worlds entirely, who had never heard of Isra. But more interesting than that, even the people who were from Isra, were not from the same Isra. Me, I served as Isra’s head of state in one form or another for about 30 years, depending on when you start counting. But I’ve got a pageboy,” she gestures toward the tents, “Who only ever knew me as Lady, and insists that The Tillers are still independent, as far as he was told. And yet, I’ve got another page who swears that he’s the sixth generation of his family to serve my dynasty, and has all sorts of interesting stories he learned in history books but that would have been in the future, for me.” At this, Naoki offers a shrus. “Which is in addition to Alden, back in my tent, who I knew as having had children with someone else, but this one we fished up? He does not, to my surprise. And Liz’s St. George? He’s bigger, and came with a funny-looking saddle when he landed on the ship. Keph — not sure if you’ve met him, he’s a few years older than I remember, too. And there are others…” Naoki relates a few more less notable examples of this same sort of dissonance among the miscellaneous passengers aboard The Depravity. “So, the conclusion I’ve drawn from all this,” Naoki continues, talking with her hands, “Is that a cataclysm of some sort hit multiple worlds and multiple times at once, somehow differently for different people. The Mists mixed them all up, and now here we are, here on this new… land,” Naoki supposes, “And I’m doing… my best,” she again supposes, gesturing vaguely. “We landed this morning, so you’re not very late.” “So, I am Naoki, but probably not the one you knew…” Naoki is quiet for a long moment. “I’m sorry. But it’s good to see you, regardless. I was worried.” She offers Skarlet a weak sort of smile.

Skarlet follows along and takes a seat with her long lost adopted Mom. She listened to Naoki's account of events and things were starting to sort of make sense. This really was her, from before the time when things turned bad.
"I see now, something has happened that pulled people together from different timelines. I'm sorry for how I reacted when I saw you, it's been... Almost 30 years now since I saw you in person. The capital was invaded and many of the citizens had become corrupted, I myself was attacked by one of these Blue Bloods in the Central Plaza. After I killed the man I returned to the citadel to try to protect you along with the guards and Ulfang von Haren, but The Set was too prepared and they had a sludge creature kept us away. By the time we fought our way through you were already taken away..."
Skarlet shares the story of what happened then listened to Naoki mentioning other people that she has found. Skarlet's eyes narrowed when she mentioned Alden and his children who now didn't exist. Those kids were part of the reason why Alden couldn't protect Naoki. She still hated Alden for it, in her timeline she had threatened to make him pay if he didn't find Naoki.
"You've found Alden? Another name I haven't heard in years. You say he has no children? Hmph, well, that's a lot of distractions gone. Do you think this Alden can be trusted?" Skarlet looks back out the tent, wondering if he might walk in any second. What would she say to him if he did? Skarlet sighs and returned her attention to Naoki and begins to tell her what happened before she got here. "When the Mist enveloped my ship, We had just finished the last battle of the Darkhive War and were sailing back to the capital, The barrier that the Tower of Darkhive was built to guard had weakened and something not of our world was banging on it from the other side. I could barely tell what it was, but it was incredibly bright. When the barrier broke, a great wave was created that sent the fleet back into the Misty Sea. Now I'm here."
Skarlet reaches her hand out to Naoki to offer comfort. "At least this strange crisis has reunited us. I really am glad for that, I missed you so much."

It’s a lot to take in, for sure, and Naoki is certainly glad she doesn’t have to deal with the consequences of any of that. “That… sounds rough,” Naoki agrees, a gross understatement for the sheer scale and tragedy of the event described. The question of if Alden can be trusted also comes as a bit of a surprise, and Naoki nods tentatively. “I think so,” she says. “He’s given me no reason to doubt his loyalty.” The referring to of Alden’s children as distractions also feels a bit off to Naoki, but she doesn’t press. She’s happier to move on and agree, “Yes. It hasn’t been quite as long for me as it has for you, but I was worried that you hadn’t made it at all. I’m glad you’re here,” she adds, spreading her arms, “A hug?”

My grudge isn't settled just yet because Naoki has appeared in front of me alive. But I am so happy to see her again!
"A hug, of course!" Skarlet leans in to wrap her arms around Naoki and takes a good whiff of her. She smelled alive for sure... she smelled good to her... Skarlet started to feel strange in her body as she gets so close to her, she can feel Naoki's pulse. She squeezed Naoki a little tighter to feel her warmth more, she was almost getting carried away and soon releases her mother when she realizes that she's feeling a little dizzy. Skarlet swallows saliva that had been gathering in her mouth and she feels ashamed for thoughts she was starting to have while hugging Naoki. "Ahem, Mother, I just realized how hungry I am. You wouldn't happen to have any food for me?" Skarlet looks away from Naoki and tries to concealing how hungry she really is.

Upon being released, Naoki takes a deep breath to make up for the ones she missed. “Oof. Careful with me, hm?” She chuckles.
“But mmh, no, I’m afraid not.” She shakes her head. “This is the extent of the settlement, there’s not even a reliable source of fresh water yet.”
Putting a hand to her chin, Naoki considers. “You have a few options, but they’re not good ones. Grandma is collecting the blood of animals for rituals, you may be able to get some of that from her. There’s the surgeon, Vulpin, and I know some folks got injured today. I can’t imagine the sick and injured would be very good, but if he doesn’t have filled leeches, there’ll at least be some folks in questionable states of consciousness in the Infirmary tent.”
“Failing that, you could check The Depravity’s hold. I know there’s at least one chest of your things in there. I looked, there are some clothes on top, but there might be some old jars underneath. I remember we had some prepared for traveling with enchantments to keep fresh, but I’m not sure if they’re in there, someone else, or even aboard at all.” Naoki shrugs, wishing she could do more to help. “Either that or prowl for volunteers, I suppose.”
“Now that I know you’re here I can see about making preparations tomorrow, but I’m not sure what you should do right now. I’m sorry.”

Adrian didn't think many people here would recognize him, for he had not visited Isra in a very long time. And even then he was shaved, bald, and equipped in Knight-Brother armor, usually mounted atop a white steed, and surrounded by an elite bodyguard. Now all anyone would see was two tired parents and their children, one with a rough beard, inching along through a crowd of commoners towards the Command Tent. The only thing that looked to be of value on Adrian was his longsword slung over his back. He let Cerri hold Hansel while Terra hung onto his leg, shyly looking at all the passersby.
Adrian stopped at the entrance and said to a guard "my name is Adrian, this is my wife Cerridwyn, and our children. We are here to see the Empress, if you would permit."

Tired indeed, Cerri held their son at her hip, her other hand touching Terra on the back of the head as if to comfort her. She followed her husband toward the tent and remained quiet whilst Adrian spoke to the guard. She was nervous but remained as calm as she could for the time being. Hansel gave a whine and stuck his forefinger into his mouth. She bounced him a little bit, careful with the extra bulk of her belly.

The guard nods and moves as if to speak, but is interrupted by a loud voice from within the tent, “Surely not!”
“Surely not,” Naoki repeats as she throws open the tent flap. “It cannot be: Sir Adrian, Lady Cerridwyn, their daughter Terra, and even a few more since then, hm?” She gestures to each of them in turn, recalling what he told her back at that damn banquet. “Good to meet you,” she nods to Cerridwyn.
“But you’ve got a lot of nerve, showing your face around here, you know that?” Stepping forward, Naoki pokes Adrian once squarely in the chest. “You’re lucky I’m as wonderful and as benevolent of a ruler as I am,” she continues, moving back into the mouth of the tent. “Or else I’d make you apologize or something first.” She scoffs in amusement at the thought.
“Now, will you be wanting to come in and have a chat, or should I just ask the building crew to set up a big tent for the lot of you?” As she’s speaking, Naoki gestures to someone inside the tent. Moments later, a pageboy slips past her and darts away, presumably to convey that intention.
“It’ll be a while either way,” she supposes. “Come sit down, at least,” she invites them, holding the tent flap open. “There are chairs enough.”

Thrand Rangvaldrson
New
Roleplay posts: 7
Appearance: Thrand stands at 6' 2", although his once burly build has become considerably more lean during his travel upon the seas. Thrand's orange beard remains unkempt, despite his attempts to contain it somewhat. His eyes are colored a muted blue, not far from grey. The blue tattoos that adorn his body have faded and in some places are barely visible, the magic sustaining them all but gone.
----------------------------------------------------------
Equipment: All that Thrand carries with him as he travels is a finely crafted sword, containing a murky blue crystal embedded in the hilt.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Skills and Abilities: While his body may have deteriorated during his journey through the mist, he still possesses much of the strength he once had. The magic abilities he once had have faded, although he can temporarily restore them using the residual magic within the sword. Using that power, he can temporarily increase his strength, speed, and durability, as well as allowing him to survive otherwise fatal conditions and wounds. However the cost of such magic leaves Thrand exhausted, and overuse could lead to collapse or worse.
----------------------------------------------------------
Biography: Thrand used to be the King of the nation of Iskaldur, yet before he knew it the flood had taken that all away. He's carried with him the one relic from that land that he has left, and has set out in a search to find a new purpose in this new world.

Thrand would do a double take, looking at Naoki again with a look that betrayed some of the surprise and mortification he felt. After a moment to reorganize his thoughts, he entered the tent and let the flap close behind him. "I didn't realize that you were in charge of the ship out there." He responded, a rather rough attempt at an apology to smooth over his previous ignorance. He continued as he pulled out a chair to sit in, keeping a respectful distance between himself and the other occupants of the tent. "I kept to myself while aboard your vessel, but," A momentary pause as he forced the following words of gratitude out. "I appreciate the hospitality you provided."
At the inquiry of the past, Thrand stiffened slightly. "I have a long history, throughout which I've done quite a few things." He placed his hands in a steeple, contemplating whether to continue or not. "Before all this happened, I was also a leader of sorts. While I can't boast ships as impressive as the one that brought us here, I was proud of what I had." Thrand shrugged with a sigh, the action filled with a melancholy resignation. "However that's all been washed away, and dwelling on it won't do much good."
Reluctant to meet the eyes of those around him, afraid of any pity they may have for him, he gave the Command Tent another look over. "This is an impressive set up, for something assembled in what I assume was emergency." He commented with a low chuckle. "Isra, right? Must've been rather well off to have this much in reserve."

Adrian silently sighed, a physical representation of mental preparation to endure whatever Naoki had to say. They had had their history - and it was one with more lows than highs. But this was a new land and a new time; perhaps that would make for new impressions. Adrian watched as the pageboy darted out of the tent, but turned to focus his attention back to Naoki. "Thank you," he says, at her offer to sit. He pulls a chair out for his wife before taking a seat next to her. Terra is too preoccupied inspecting Naoki's guards with youthful curiosity.
"Thank you, Empress Naoki... for the hospitality," he begins. "If not for my own sake, then for my wife's. She is pregnant, and I desire to give her all the luxury she deserves." Adrian cocks his head to the side, "but it is not my place to ask you for anything. But do not mistake that for humbleness; only a fool would deny offerings that your position enables you to give. We can provide our own accommodations, if necessary."
Adrian's mind sent him back through time, during his time in the Brotherhood. He stood upon a wooden rampart, overlooking a moonlit valley covered in snow. The howling winds chilled him to the bone, despite the heat offered by the torch nearby. It was a miserable post, but a necessary one, for the Wickans were moving within the pine forests beyond. At any moment the pagans might swarm forward like a plague of locusts to slaughter the Knightly invaders. He was alone that night, for his companion was suffering from frostbite. He had endured such extreme conditions, including the blistering heat of foreign deserts, where the sun offered no remorse. But Cerri had not - and did not deserve to.
"But I would ask," he continued, "you do what you can for my wife, who is pregnant with child." Adrian turned to look at her, smiling. She had not told him yet, but he knew she was carrying. "Tell me, my love, what is it you need? We can only ask, and I am sure the Empress can provide to the best of her ability."

She was silent, tired to the bone. There was something slightly listless about her eyes that said as much. Cerri followed her husband into the command tent and adjusted Hansel on her hip. He gave a few little whines and buried his face into her shoulder, ready for some kind of nap.
She gave a slight bow toward Naoki before she allowed herself to sit down. While the two talked, she shifted uncomfortably. Then her husband turned to her and asked her what she wanted. "I only want safety," she said softly. "And," she went on to try and put some humor into it, "perhaps a nap." She offered a slight smile to the two.
Hansel soon looked at the empress and was immediately shy, hiding his face again. Terra peered out from behind her father's chair, staring in fascination as children were wont to do when they saw something that caught their attention. In this case, it was Naoki's ears that fascinated the girl. But they were both well behaved children, not making too much noise.
