Nina’s description of her body made Molenya laugh, interrupted only by a single snort. “A shark made of sky!” She laughed once more and gave Nina a wink once it had finally died down enough for the mermaid to compose herself. “Hoo boy, you’re a real charmer Nina. I like that one.” With that, she cleared her throat. Oh! Another salt crystal! She really needed to spend more time with her head out of water. “Yeah it hurt! It’s all done by needle, lotta little pricks against the bare skin, but it ain’t too bad. You get used to it.”
“As for magic…. Eeeeeeeh….” she raised a hand and tilted it from side to side, trying to figure out how to explain it. “Kinda yeah kinda nah. So, my soft parts got a natural glow, y’know, eyes, mouth, and so on.” She gestured to her face, the luminescent dots that several designs curved around atop her breasts, and beyond. “That could be left over magic from when my family got their appearance changed to be a little more like you ground pounding dirt walkers. Only those who got spells cast on ‘em, or could cast spells, got the glow. That’s just my village though, I’ve met others with legit glowies that weren’t magic.”
“They had what makes the rest of my art glow.” She raised an arm and traced a long design down it, and it seemed to shift with colour. “The ink’s mixed with a concoction I designed myself, it’s got the same stuff that makes some algae and fish glow deeper down in the depths. Totally safe, it hasn’t made me loopy or given me an infection yet. I mix it with translucent ink, the kind that doesn’t show up under the skin, really makes it pop when I do get to show ‘em off. I could do it with coloured ink, might make for a nice finish in the dark, but y’know, not my style.”
“So, got a load of this? Loada that?” She gestured to the tattoos around her chest and around her waist. “One last look, aaaaaaand…” she reached over and grabbed her seaweed-made clothing and slipped the wraps around her, covering herself up once more. “That’s all yer getting. You can look now, Sir Modesty, proud Knight of the Averted Gaze, of the Polite Kingdom.” She winked at Sir Rudiger with a small chuckle. “Seriously though man, it’s all good. Got my bits covered up."
