Appearance: Avalux is quarter elven which makes his age slightly hard to guess. His hair had turned a silvery blonde when he was quite young and most of the signs of age on his features are due more to squinting to read in candlelight than his years. He is on the tall and lean side but not to an excessive degree. Perhaps a hair's breadth over six feet and with enough meat on his bones to be healthy. His features are angular and they have a slightly severe cast as his habitual expression is a frown of thoughtful consideration.

Equipment: Utterly insufficient for the task he has been presented with but he has the essential. A fresh notebook, a pen enchanted to replenish its own ink over time, a rune scribes etching tool, his glasses, and various crystals for creating apparatus.

Skills and Abilities: Avalux is a magical engineer (Artificer if you wish to offend) and researcher. He specializes in the creation of devices that use magical power to power mechanical designs. He tackles magic with the scientific method trying to quantify something that most people believe to be unquantifiable. His drive and determination to do so often make him overlook certain things.

Avalux also wasn't prone to sleeping in late but conspired unknowingly with Jun to keep them inside the tent for as long as possible. His reasoning was the same as hers as he was reluctant to get up until she finally made the first move to do so. He followed her outside and went about his own morning business. It was a far less involved process than he'd once enjoyed when he'd had access to a wash closet and soap but he'd gotten used to, for lack of a better term, roughing it. The man did his best to remain clean but had come to accept that it would be some time before he could enjoy a thorough cleaning.
"Yes, she wasn't quite what I expected. But she seemed reasonable and I do not think she had any particularly wicked motivations."
He confirmed Jun's assessment as he unrolled his survey map and started to jot down a few notes of what they'd found the previous day. He'd not had time to do so before and if they didn't get added they might be forgotten.

Valera didn't pay much attention to the rocky hills. The glint of the gemstones flashed in her peripheral vision. She did not care much for shiny rocks. They make for nice decor and jewels but she wasn't the type to care for material things much. Isolde seems to be the one who enjoys those types of things. Their little dimensional storage pocket is filled up with all of her stuff anyway. Valera does every now again treat herself to whatever sweat treat might be in there. She still finds a weird to pull items out of herself. The feeling much akin to sticking your hand in a pool of gelatinous goop.
"I dare not open the journal Isolde has left me. I worry it will only be another outlet for her to mock me." Valera replies to Jun's comment. She continues to skin the rabbit. "I am happy that she did not give you much trouble. It seems that she must've given some sound advice seeing as you two spent the night in the same tent. I do not care what you two do in your spare time. It may not be my place to say as we've recently become acquainted, but you both seem happier."
When the rabbit is ready, Valera will help with the help cook the rabbit over the fire. "Rabbits are quite delicious, but why must they also be insanely cute? I used to feed the wild rabbits that would run about near my home when I was young." she sighs at the memory. The image of a bride-to-be squatting by the fire, slowly rotating a rabbit seems very out of place. It makes for a comical scene for sure. She had already abandoned the annoying heeled shoes somewhere in the forest. Valera could care less if the edges of the dress become stained and dirty. She just wishes for one day to be able to wear normal clothing again. The only good thing coming from this dress is her improved posture.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 292
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

Jun felt her face turn hot. Was the unresolved tension between us that obvious?!
"Nothing Isolde would have found entertaining I can assure you."
She then cleared her throat and focused on her bugs.
"Well, we had a long conversation about how nice it would be for you two to be able to work together. I remember you said your memories overlap but aren't in perfect synch. I wonder what allows you to synchronize your memories at all, and how the mechanism decides what's important and what isn't?"
Jun tried to keep her bug stir fry at an angle so as to not disturb the others too much, though it didn't stop her from occasionally tossing them up in the air with a flick of her pan. (She found that, generally speaking, her dexterity was improving, as she had been forced to incorporate more of her physical body into her magical attacks.) Avalux and Valera were welcome to some of it if they asked, but Jun had a feeling they wouldn't.
When she was done (it wouldn't take long), Jun would sit down near Avalux so she could peer at his notes and survery map, gingerly eating her meal bit by bit to not bother him. She found herself wanting to be closer to him but still remaining conscientious of her every move.
In response to the rabbit story, Jun smirked. "I think it's nature's way of telling us to respect all living things, even those we must kill to survive."
A brief, and rather disturbing memory of a child-eating ogre being bisected by a light construct sword flashed in her mind. But she quickly shook it off.
"Being able to take a life is... useful, but one should be wary of those who can do it easily."

"I can't make decisions for you. But even if the journal was used to mock, in your situation, I would still read it. Changing and improving a situation requires information, research, and hypothesis. Every avenue of info gathering should be explored. Words written on a page can't hurt you even if they are insulting, so it is best to read and extract what information you can from them."
Avalux said to Valera when she was quick to dismiss the journal. He wasn't unaware that it was an emotional and personal problem he was giving advice about and that might be insulting. But he tended to think in analytical ways and considering Isolde had been open to the idea he felt it would be foolish of Valera to give up on it. He would have been thrilled to be able to essentially be awake at all times and would have been eager to try and collaborate with himself. Which might have made him more of a hermit than he already was so perhaps he should count his blessings he found Jun instead.
"I've never thought much about what the meat I eat came from, I don't think I saw a living pig or cow until I was in my late teens. In all honesty, that might be to my overall detriment. Separation from the action makes the action easier, having spent the last few months living in the wild I've started to question some of the choices I made in my original world."
He glanced Jun's way as he said that, absently reaching out to take some of the food she'd brought over. He chewed on the bug without comment, mostly because he didn't realize that was what she'd been making. He'd been focusing on his work and she'd just gotten close with food he assumed that he was welcome to partake in. He frowned slightly at the unfamiliar texture but the taste was fine and he'd grown used to eating things that weren't exactly to his tastes.

"Alright, I will take your advice and look in the journal. Maybe I have been too tough on her. If you two did not find her presence bothersome, maybe I should learn to be more accepting of her. It is difficult to not have control of myself."
Soon the rabbit was cooked to a perfect golden brown. "It is easier to eat an animal when you're not the one ending its life. Some think that this separation protects us. Given our circumstances, I try not to be so picky. Though, I have never tried a bug. Would either of you like to have some rabbit?" Valera doesn't seem opposed to the bugs, more curious than anything. She wondered if they would be similar to a crunchy potato. The texture sure, but of the taste, very much not so.
"Where will you two go when you're finished with your research here?" Valera wasn't sure if they even are researching anything at the moment. "I have enjoyed the company you two bring and if it is no bother, I would like to continue to journey with you, or at least until we come to a town." The usually proud angel seemed almost bashful when asking her question. Her wings folded inwards towards her body. Her head a small tilt downwards. It has been a long time since Valera has tried to make meaningful connections.

Jun wish she had an easy answer for Valera. But she brought up an excellent point about bodily autonomy. Isolde wasn't just some estranged black sheep of a sister; she was an alternate possessor of her very body. Showing understanding and mercy to a rival was difficult on a good day, but it was feasible. It was maybe less feasible when said entity was also playing the (given unwilling) roll of a parasite. "It'll be a difficult process, but... it'll be worth it, I promise." Jun nodded. That was the best she could do. For what it was worth, she meant it. She smiled as Avalux unconsciously took a bug and ate it. In that moment, if someone had asked her what was so amusing, she wouldn't have been able to answer. "I'll try some if it's alright with you." Jun offered to trade a few bugs for a forkful of rabbit. "Different species taste different, but for the most part they are all protein. These would be a bit better if you could roll them around in cinnamon but, you can't always choose in the wild." Spera could be heard struggling with something inside their tent. She snarled with a muffled mouth. Jun raised a brow but dismissed the noise for a bit. "Oh! Well, we need need to get our findings back to the Usqueans as soon as possible. I think Queen Tana would like to meet you. She seems like the type to like angelic, feathery things. There are many highly skilled people in our village who've managed to do wonders with mostly just wood, rope, and rusty axes. Even a little bit of iron would go a long way for them." More snarling from the tent... "And I mean, as far as I'm concerned you're already a friend. So of course you can come with us, especially if you take our advice about Isolde-" Spera came thrashing out of the tent. She was shaking something glittering and hard in her mouth. "What in the forest?!" Whatever it was, it was wiggling, and small enough that the owl wing fox should have dispatched it from this world hastily. But no matter how hard she shook, the creature kept wriggling until finally Spera had to drop it. The creature landed in the ground on its back, but then quickly flipped over and reared its fangs defensively. (A low pitched thrum, soft as a whisper, mixed with a high pitched, barely audible whistle)

"The concept of losing bodily autonomy in such a manner is one I cannot fathom beyond sympathy, so I do not mean what I say next to underplay your situation. Your situation is unique and challenging, but unique and challenging situations are not actually uncommon when viewed as an aggregate. While it may be difficult to know how to proceed, decide on what you want and explore every avenue to get to that objective. The worst thing you can do is nothing."
While Jun struggled to find an easy answer, Avalux had zero issues offering up life advice. Of course, he saw the world in a peculiar way. He was a man with absolutely zero aptitude for magic who had decided to devote his life to studying it anyway. He hadn't let his lack of natural ability deter him from learning how to harness it. In short, he'd had an impossible problem and he'd overcome it and to his way of thinking she had an equally impossible problem and if he'd found the solution to his, then she could find one of her own but she had to experiment.
Of course, a drawback to this particular way of viewing things was that it sometimes lacked tact. He was smart enough to know there was some potential for offense but he still hadn't pieced together that sometimes it was better to withhold his opinion. Considering he'd spent most of his life being in charge of a massive company and in control of an unfathomable fortune, this could hardly be seen as surprising for those who knew him.
With his advice dispensed, his attention turned to his meal. At this point, he realized that he was eating insects. "I wondered why it was crunchy. I am not sure if I should be mortified or not because I thought it tasted fairly good until I realized what I was eating." The man's scientific mind knew that there was nothing inherently wrong with what he'd done. His emotional side was utterly repulsed by the realization he'd eaten a bug. The deciding factor was the appearance of the crystal spider-like thing, the sight of it moving around made his stomach churn and he decided that he needed to find a bush.

"Thank you both for your wisdom. I will attempt to be more open with Isolde. When breakfast is finished, I'll" She will begin to carve a piece of the rabbit for Jun. "I will be honored to meet this Queen Tana. What is she like?" Valera grabs a handful of bugs and eats them like popcorn. Her face contorts into a grimace as she chews slowly, the exoskeleton providing a crunch. "This is not my first choice of snack but it is much better than I anticipated." She cleanses her pallet with the much more palpable rabbit. Gotta try everything at least once, right?
Speaking of bugs, this dreadful crystal spider. The bulbous abdomen seems to glimmer a little in the warm sun. "What have we here? A spider not ready to die. I've never seen anything like it. What do you two think of it? I know I sure don't want to know if that thing is venomous." She takes a step back keeping a careful distance between her and this tiny foe.

The glittering arthropod hissed again, causing Spera to leap back. Her hairs stood on end and her hind legs reared back as she prepared for round two. The creature's hiss had two tones. One was high pitched and barely audible, and the second was a low thrum.
Jun, Avalux, and Valera would immediately feel something strange in their chests: fear, as if induced artificially from an outside source.
The spider shuffled from side to side, evidently aware that there were multiple possible foes. It let out a sequence of of short hisses, almost like a serpent's rattle. Each individual pulse seemed capable of inducing a palpitation of the heart. Spera appeared to be equally agitated, and was about to leap again onto the spider when-
"Earth Art: Instant Latrine."
A small geyser of earth erupted right under the spider's feet, rocketing it high into the air, where it would land in parts unknown. It squealed all the way, the noise fading comically the further it arced away from their camp.
(And so the... uh, battle... was over, for now.)
Jun made some clicking sounds and Spera practically leapt into her arms.
"Shh shh shh it's alright." She checked its mouth and paws for strange bites.
"Uh, thoughts, theories, suggestions?" She asked Avalux, her heart still beating heavily.

"Some kind of aural attack, either naturally or through magical means it attacked the inner ear."
Avalux said in response to Jun's question about the spider. His first thoughts were how it had produced such an effect on them. But when it came to suggestions he had some that were, as always, practical.
"As for what it was and where it came from, no, not particularly. But I think we would be best served by finishing the mineral survey and returning to the village as quickly as possible. I'll look into some hearing protection in case we encounter those crystal spiders again."
He wiped his lips tasting the lingering bile on them. After rinsing his mouth, he decided he had no more stomach for breakfast so once the two women were ready they could get back to searching the hills. It wasn't long before they found what he was looking for, the distinct red colouring of the earth in the area was exactly what he suspected.
"Oxidized iron in the soil, this is a very rich vein of ore and I think there are other minerals as well!"
He exclaimed excitedly as they found a section of cliff that had collapsed at some point. There was clear signs of raw ore visible already and he got to work with gusto, chipping off samples for further study back at the lab so he could properly identify all they'd found. Creating a proper mine would be the first step in building the usque back to a more modern standard of living.

Her eyes from the gentle blue to a burning red.
Equipment: Her weapon of choice is a long claymore, slow but deadly. She wears little armor when she is an angel while the dark dress is fused with metal to act as a form of armor.
Skills and Abilities: Not so much a skill but more of a personality swap, come sunlight she is as sweet as the bees and flowers but when the sunsets she bares her teeth on the hunt for some excitement. Her personalities changing like day and night, no one knows which one is truly her.
Biography: Once a human in search of immortality. She sought out a higher divinity only to be cast down from there she sought a deal with the devil, his flame burned her for weeks. She was too sinister to live amongst the angels and too angelic to live among the demons. She now lives as both an angel and a demon, but never to become solely one of the other. Valera condemned to live her life belonging to no one and no place.

The wave of overwhelming fear washes over her, a feeling Valera had never felt before. She has charged into heated battles and looked death in the eyes, none of that compared quite the same to this forced-induced fear.

Valera had never liked bugs—the thought of all those legs crawling on her and the beady eyes staring into her being gave her the ick.
Valera will help the two gather minerals from the earth. The wings make gathering cliffside ores a lot easier. Her wings seem to glisten subtly under the sun's rays. This mining is a new skill to Valera, but she didn't have much trouble picking it up. She put any leftover ores securely in her seemingly never-ending storage space.
