Cevraya Kirske
New
Roleplay posts: 3
Appearance: Kirske is a strange woman, and her clothing tends to accent that. She rarely wears corsets, garters, or heels, avoiding the trappings of traditional feminine clothing. Instead, she dresses in a similar manner of an early victorian-era gentleman, despite being obviously female. She is often seen with a tight black frock coat, dark green cravat, white undershirt, and black breeches. When less formal occasions call, her calf-length frock coat is replaced with a norfolk jacket, with the rest the same. She holds an unimpressive body type, having feminine curves that lack pronouncement. Her mousy brown hair is cut at her neck, and she has a dark green tattoo that appears almost like a sheen of wet paint on her pale face. She almost always has a bowler hat upon her lithe frame.
Equipment: Cevraya has all of the equipment listed above in regards to clothing. She also carries a formal walking stick, as well as a bag of herbs, salves, antivenoms, poisons, and other natural medicines. A mortar and pestle can often be found on her as well, as well as a mostly-ceremonial dagger. She also carries a large jar, for Georgy Enrique Leonard, or Gel.
Skills and Abilities: Cevraya is an experienced medicine-woman, as well as a former mage of notable ability. She was once capable of creating beings made of caustic slime up to a cubic meter in size, but now struggles to make anything as large as three cubic inches. Her favored creation is Georgy Enrique Leonard, or Gel for short, a three-cubic-inch gelatinous cube that obeys her command. She can use what little arcane ability she has left to recognize and cure toxins, as well as replicate them, but she can only replicate toxins that she has on her. She is immune to toxins.

The woman paused at Thrand's words, before shrugging. "I was a mage." She said absentmindedly. "But the Cataclysm cut off most of my abilities there. I now cannot do much, but I know enough about herbs, and a simple spell reveals whether they are toxic, so I like to think I'm integral to the voyage." She murmured, before slowly dropping to a knee before the cat, extending a hand. She kept talking as she did so. "I suppose I am an herbalist, but I hate the term, personally. I can't really consider myself a mage, though, can I? I can replicate toxins, but that's about it." She released a slightly frustrated huff of air. "But I made Georgy, so I suppose that is enough. Yes, I am his mistress, he does what I say."
Georgy Enrique Leonard was displeased with the fact that his mistress was petting a feline. Being a very jealous-yet nevertheless incredibly handsome- jello cube, he leapt towards Whiskers in a warning shot, hitting the ground with a jiggling "SPLAT"... and promptly tipping over.

Sober up? A difficult order if Norman had ever heard one. He did the only thing he could, leaned over the railing, pushed a finger into the back of his throat, and spewed. With barely enough time to wipe his mouth back down into the ship they went.

Thrand Rangvaldrson
New
Roleplay posts: 7
Appearance: Thrand stands at 6' 2", although his once burly build has become considerably more lean during his travel upon the seas. Thrand's orange beard remains unkempt, despite his attempts to contain it somewhat. His eyes are colored a muted blue, not far from grey. The blue tattoos that adorn his body have faded and in some places are barely visible, the magic sustaining them all but gone.
----------------------------------------------------------
Equipment: All that Thrand carries with him as he travels is a finely crafted sword, containing a murky blue crystal embedded in the hilt.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Skills and Abilities: While his body may have deteriorated during his journey through the mist, he still possesses much of the strength he once had. The magic abilities he once had have faded, although he can temporarily restore them using the residual magic within the sword. Using that power, he can temporarily increase his strength, speed, and durability, as well as allowing him to survive otherwise fatal conditions and wounds. However the cost of such magic leaves Thrand exhausted, and overuse could lead to collapse or worse.
----------------------------------------------------------
Biography: Thrand used to be the King of the nation of Iskaldur, yet before he knew it the flood had taken that all away. He's carried with him the one relic from that land that he has left, and has set out in a search to find a new purpose in this new world.

Thrand gave Cevraya a look of sympathy, albeit not without a lurking undercurrent of frustration. "It seems the loss of magic seems to be a reoccurring theme here." Thrand mused, absentmindedly tapping his fingers on the hilt of his sword. "But I'd say that you're still well off. After all, I know I'd sure like to know that the food I eat won't leave me in pain in the future." He finished, chuckling slightly at his first attempt at humor in a while.
He gave a quick glance at Georgy as he attempted his woefully unintimidating leap. "Besides, I'm sure that the sailors are already more than happy to not have to clean up after that mess." He added, gesturing loosely to what little remained of the blood splatter. After a brief pause, Thrand continued, noting with frustration the hint of sorrow that had crept into his voice. "It's better to be grateful for what you still have left in this world, as a purpose is not something to take for granted."

The cat brushed his body against the legs of the tall woman. His eyes flashing over to the cube a few chirps slipping past his mouth as if he was snickering at the cube. The cat walked around the group of people before sitting in the middle of where they gathered and meowing. He tilted his head to Thrand almost as if he was listening to his conversation.
He wonders what everyone's tale is. No two people alike will ever be on the same boat. Some searching for new glory, others escaping their past, but what does Whiskers know? He's just a common cat in some fancy clothes. He will meow at Thrand, his meow sounding sympathetic. Whiskers thinks of what he has in the world, he was always a ship cat. He was born on a ship and got acclimated to the sealife. Sometimes the boats would sink and he'd cling onto dear life on a piece of drift wood. He was happy that he was still alive and had all 4 paws and all 9 lives left.

Stumbling onto the deck once more Norman was blinded by the sun that for once was showing itself. It had been less than an hour since he discovered the mutineers but the sea of emotions had rocked him like a skiff falling off the lee side of an ocean roller, and he was still quite drunk. Belligerent with alcohol and adrenaline and shocked by the horrors he had just witnessed his words came like the ravings of a mad man.
“Mutiny! The dead walk below decks! A mage, a mage. I need a mage!” He didn’t bother to go searching but shouted instead, “Uh, Alice, no Alicia? I need Bloodsails mage! Please, if you can use magic the ship needs you!”

She has no particular preference in clothing, dressing reasonably fashionable as far as she can afford.
Equipment: She has a wand that she carries on her person at all times, with it, she performs her magic. Sketchbooks and drawing items are held in a small satchel at her waist. She is usually wearing robes due to her position as a junior member of the Isran enclave, a position earned solely by the dearth of summoners amongst magic users.
Skills and Abilities: Alryca is a novice summoner, but she shows promise, if only her extracurricular activities would not get in the way. She maintains multiple sketchbooks, as drawings the things she sees helps her to summon them later.
Biography: She has a bright, inquisitive personality that excels at learning but is fairly obnoxious in any situation that even remotely approaches being described as "serious." She loves magic and will happily talk anyone's ear off about it, and this is doubled under the effects of alcohol.

"Woah woah woah. Dead walking? I was on the fleet under Captain Bloodsail, though my name is Alryca." She said, rather haughtily. "I don't know my way around the ship, lead the way!"

Venus’ approach was heralded by their tell-tale aura, albeit it felt.. Different. Heavier, darker… Not nearly as intoxicating but far more invigorating. It also pulsed, akin to a heartbeat, waning in brief moments.
Venus’ ascent to the deck was not heralded by the clicking of their heels, as was typical. The soft thud of flats replaced them. Venus had failed to collect a new skin, still trapped within the skin of a small boy, with short black hair, and soft brown eyes. He was young, clearly no more than 10 winters old. He lacked any distinguishing features, and if you looked closely.. His face looked wrong. It was too perfect and symmetrical, as if he were crafted into this world, rather than born into it.
As Venus ascended the deck, he channeled his magic to age the body into a form that was far more suitable to discuss with Naoki, shifting the eyes green and lengthening the hair. He smirked cockily, as he tapped a finger against his thigh while he waited for the Isran ruler.

The skeleton crew assigned to watch over The Depravity is a paltry, lonely few. A handful of guardsmen to keep thieves out, a handful of shipwrights to keep up with maintenance, and occasionally a pageboy or two to fetch something from the hold. On the deck right now, there are only a pair of guards, accompanied only by the distant sound of intermittent hammering and the sound of waves lapping at the ship’s keel far below. For a ship of such prodigious size, it may come off as a bit eerie, especially to those who remember when it was stuffed to bursting with refugees not so long ago.
Venus isn’t made to wait very long. After a few minutes, Lady Naoki emerges from belowdecks. She carries a largish wooden box under one arm, and a bundle of rolled papers under the other. It’s not difficult for her to pick out Venus, and Naoki approaches.
Standing a few paces away, Naoki regards Venus. She’s used to seeing Venus take different forms like this, but it hasn’t stopped being mildly unsettling. Oh well. Naoki shrugs, and gestures for Venus to follow her over to The Depravity’s main mast. It’s a prodigious thing, thicker around than any tree. Reinforced with metal, it has a ladder partially inset into its girth, to protect the climber from the wind as they ascend toward the crow’s nest.
“I hope you’re not averse to a bit of climbing. I thought we might look down on the settlement from above.”
Naoki gestures to the ladder, and moves to hand Venus the wooden box. She can’t very well climb with no arms, but they could each climb with one.

Venus turned and followed Naoki, wordlessly accepting the box. The demon regarded the mast before shrugging.
“That’s fine by me,” he said as he gestured for Naoki to ascend first, shifting the box to a more secure position in his grasp. “After you, my Lady.” Venus sniffed the air passively, curious if his prey was nearby. It was not. The magic dampening mists bothered Venus more than they cared to admit. All of his senses felt sluggish, especially his scent. He idly wondered when Naoki would establish that as a priority.

At Venus’s suggestion that she go first, Naoki quirks an eyebrow before pointedly looking down at herself. And her dress.
“No, no,” she says. “I insist.”
Waving Venus up the mast before her, Naoki would follow Venus up the ladder. It’s a bit of a climb, made no easier by only having one arm available, but uneventful.
The Depravity’s primary crow’s nest is a bit more than a bucket. With a roof, seats, a cabinet, and some sliding panels that can be rotated around to block the weather, it’s an almost cozy little spot capable of comfortably hosting a few lookouts.
Upon ascending into the crow’s nest, Naoki immediately deposits her rolled papers onto a nearby seat and approaches the railing that looks out across Port Argentium. She stands there for the space of a few moments, gazing out across the settlement. Then she hums — her mouth a tight line.
“It doesn’t look so bad, does it?” Naoki gestures for Venus to look and share their opinion.

Venus quirked an eyebrow back, but acquiesced, playfully rolling his eyes with a small grin, climbing the mast.
Upon reaching the clearing, Venus moved to set the box aside, before shrugging at the question. “It looks a hovel.” They responded blankly. “It will not even hope to compare to the luxuries Isra held, not for quite some time.” He mused, glancing at Naoki. Venus surveyed the land, thinking critically. There was potential for sure, but it would not be nearly as easy with those damned mists to reconstitute an empire.
“What buildings do you deem highest priority to be constructed?” Venus asked, curious. If it were his empire to be, he knew what he would prioritize - This was an empire of mortals though, they surely came with different needs.

Naoki huffs, amused. “I suppose so,” she agrees. The results of her efforts for the past however-long doesn’t look impressive at all. And it certainly doesn’t hold a candle to her old seat of power. But it’s something. And it’s filled with loyal citizens who aren’t starving, and Naoki takes that to mean a lot.
“Ah, the highest priority?” Returning to her stack of papers, Naoki pulls one, in particular, out, unrolls it, and consults its contents.
“Thankfully, all of the essential items are more or less complete. The last one is the tavern, and that’s all but done. I think it now high time to turn our attention to defenses.” Gesturing, Naoki indicates how her little hamlet is naught more than a collection of buildings in the sand. No walls, no fortifications.
“I’ve already tasked Skarlet with some of the preliminary work necessary for outlying walls and towers, and she expressed an interest in setting up an outpost out there…” Pointing, Naoki indicates the peninsula north of Port Argentium, that forms the other half of the natural harbor. “It will be a good lookout point.”
“But that leaves the innermost defenses,” Naoki continues, pulling another bit of paper from her pile. It’s a bit larger than the first, and she unrolls it to grand effect, revealing what seem to be blueprints for a large fortress.
“The Citadel,” she explains. “An early blueprint. Long before I got in there and started retrofitting it with my what-have-you. It’s a bit large,” she admits. “But I think, with some modifications, it would fit reasonably well there by the water, see?”
Pointing, Naoki indicates a spot diagonally offset from The Forum, near the end of the docks. “That cluster of buildings are all untreated wood. They’ll have to be replaced within five years regardless, due mostly to their proximity to the water. I think we rip them out before they rot, and put something like this in their place.” Tapping the blueprint with the back of her hand, Naoki again turns to Venus for her input.

Venus hums a soft, vaguely eerie melody, analyzing the blueprints, as well as observing the region. "It seems suitable, but I think, perhaps, a tad overdone. You are aware there are other settlements on these isles, yes?" He asked, widening his eyes a little bit.
"I agree that establishing a fortress is important. There are two convergence points across this island, not incredibly far from here, where a majority of the inner rivers meet; establishing control over those could prove quite fortuitous in the future." He continues his hum, obviously thinking, before clicking his teeth.
"In regard to establishing this initial fortress, I think the location makes sense, yet.." The demon frowns. "It seems rather 'excessive'. Do you truly think it the wisest usage of resources, into primarily one fortress?" Venus asked, for a variety of reasons.

“Do I think it the wisest? …” Naoki considers for a moment, then shrugs.
“I haven’t built a city from scratch before — excluding that time that I did. But in that instance, there was magic involved, massive existing stockpiles, plenty of extant infrastructure, defenses, and all that. The steps in between smacking sticks and stones together to make little houses and million-gold construction projects elude me.”
“The alternative,” Naoki begins to suppose, “Would be a smattering of smaller forts, or even just lookout towers. Maybe where the rivers converge, as you suggest, maybe around the outskirts of the settlement, maybe along the coast, to see approaching ships.”
“I can envision what I would like the eventual state of things to be, but you’re right — we’re rather limited in how much can be done at a time. Depending on where we expect to be attacked, it would likely be wise to prioritize. How would you do it?”

Venus blinked at the question, and thought for a moment, his hair growing a bit as he did. "Establishing a shell fortress and a presence in this bay is ideal. However, I would focus on expanding inland, taking control of the river before anyone else might have the opportunity." The demon's eyes glazed over, as they recalled their earlier travels through the island.
"In fact, I think your idea of look-out towers might be an excellent idea. There is a mountain range to the east, that isolates us from that side of the island. It is the north, west, and south that are of concern, in that order." Venus began to gesture, only to pause. "If only you had a map of the island, perhaps I would be able to better illustrate.
The main concept however, is that by establishing a presence before any other might, it shall be easier to negotiate, and subjugate, if necessary. Furthermore, by expanding inland your people are less likely to suffer the consequences of the elements. If a strong enough storm comes.." Venus trailed off, already able to visualize the carnage a typhoon would cause the settlement.
