Age: 42
Appearance: Avalux is quarter elven which makes his age slightly hard to guess. His hair had turned a silvery blonde when he was quite young and most of the signs of age on his features are due more to squinting to read in candlelight than his years. He is on the tall and lean side but not to an excessive degree. Perhaps a hair's breadth over six feet and with enough meat on his bones to be healthy. His features are angular and they have a slightly severe cast as his habitual expression is a frown of thoughtful consideration.
-------------------------
Equipment: Utterly insufficient for the task he has been presented with but he has the essential. A fresh notebook, a pen enchanted to replenish its own ink over time, a rune scribes etching tool, his glasses, and various crystals for creating apparatus.
-------------------------
Skills and Abilities: Avalux is a magical engineer (Artificer if you wish to offend) and researcher. He specializes in the creation of devices that use magical power to power mechanical designs. He tackles magic with the scientific method trying to quantify something that most people believe to be unquantifiable. His drive and determination to do so often make him overlook certain things.

“They certainly seem to be an industrious people.”
Avalux said as he pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. He took in the sight of the port, it wasn’t quite the size of a city just yet, but it was the largest settlement he’d seen thus far. The captain of the Eygor Mjok long ship was shouting out orders. They were preparing the pilot boat that would go to the dock first to clear the main ship for boarding. “I think that’s our cue.”
The captain gestured them toward the dingy, ready to be winched down into the water. He reached out and slipped his hand into Jun’s. When she’d returned with her friend Alden, it became obvious that a trip to Port Argentium was in order. Establishing a relationship with an old ally could only benefit everyone. Considering her history with old Isra, Jun of the Celadine had been the natural choice of diplomatic lead for the trip. Avalux’s inclusion was, slightly, more questionable. Had he been asked before recent events had transpired he probably would have at the very least feigned some reticence about going. But he’d volunteered to go on the long trip, despite not being overly thrilled at the prospect of going back out to sea. But he had come to be far more fond of adventure, or at least, his adventuring companion. The dingy lowered into the water and it wasn’t long before they were being rowed steadily toward the docks. It was clear they’d been spotted, people moving to greet them. Most were not aware that they were about to be part of history in this strange new land they now called home. Besides the couple, there were a handful of soldiers and the winged woman Valera who had asked Jun if she could be part of the party.

Jun of the Celadine
Dedicated
Roleplay posts: 292
Age: 33
Appearance: Jun stands at about 5’ 4”, with a willowy, slightly rectangular build. Her tawny olive skin has lost its flush from constantly wearing cloth armor, and she is dotted with small scars, including wrinkled patches of old burns on her left arm. She has deep brown, slightly hooded eyes and not quite straight dark auburn hair. Her face is still youthful and strong, though her gaze suggests she’s seen way too much for her age.
Equipment: An emerald, muddy long coat-style gambeson. A chrome blue longsword with a rusty hilt. Rusted shackles on her wrists ending in broken chains, giving a false impression that she had been a prisoner; the bracelets are easily removed.
Skills and Abilities: What remains of Jun’s power is a mix of animal friendship and elemental control. She can communicate with and control weaker animals, like insects, and request the help of larger, sentient animals (though they are not compelled to obey her). She can perform subtle manipulations of fire, water, earth, wind, and other “elements” like light and shadow. Her most unique ability is to imbue elemental magic into other life forms and channel her spells through them.
She is a decent cook and survivalist and has a solid academic understanding of agriculture and ecology. She is also a decent sword and hand-to-hand fighter.
Biography: Jun of the Celadine was a stereotypical hero of legend. She was one of Isra's mightiest spellcasters, had gone on dozens of adventures, possessed several powerful artifacts, and helped bring peace to the world on many occasions.
A notorious overachiever and workaholic, Jun had driven herself to near madness pursuing powerful magic. In standard fashion, it was the power of friendship that kept her sane.
Now Jun must cope with the fact that much of the world she helped protect has been lost, and that most of the magic power she had accrued over the years has stopped working.
Her family (whose whereabouts are unknown) was a clan of farmers and gardeners. Her tribe lived in peace and harmony in a mostly forested region. Every two hundred years or so, their people produced a powerful mage and master of all elements. Jun was not this chosen one, but rather her grandmother was. Still, Jun's (somewhat unhealthy) obsession with keeping up with her ancestor made her a pretty close second.
Jun has no regrets about her journey, though she sometimes wishes she had spent more learning other skills, like cooking and dancing. She also feels she made a poor lover, though it's likely her old partners passed away in the floodwaters anyways...

It was true. The settlement was even more developed than Vinya Lhann, and there were more people too. Some of the wooden structures were comparable; the Usqueans, their hunter allies, and the Eygor Mjok were no slouches when it came to carpentry and wood-based architecture. But there was one thing that the Isran seemed to have a great deal more of: stone. That was unusual, and must have taken a lot of work.
Jun's hand lingered on Avalux's a bit longer than was necessary when they boarded the dingy. It briefly occurred to her that she'd need to guard him from Lady Naoki's... tendencies. That was going to be fun.
She happily waved back to to all the people waving at them, while also scanning their bodies for signs of illness that they might be able to treat soon.
"It doesn't surprise me they're so industrious. Isra's always been the sort of place to recruit talent and ideas from all over. It used to be called the Free City, and was founded by a benevolent elf lord named Ildesias. Lady Naoki took it over shortly before I first arrived to it, after his retirement. And she was a master of logistics and organization. She also knew how to keep enemies at bay. She was a worthy successor. I think you two will get along pretty well actually."
Hopefully not toooo well.
Like Avalux, Lady Naoki had accomplished a great deal through hard work and intelligence. She did have a spark of magic, though it was relatively weak.
Jun could see at a glance that Port Argentium had very little magic compared to the Usqueans. They had obviously chosen to work around the mist's limitations rather than try to reclaim that particular lost glory. Very clever, really. It made her wonder if there were other civilizations out there who had chosen other strategies for surviving in the mists.
"It's so strange. It doesn't feel like home anymore, and yet, it's somehow familiar."
Jun had brought a lot of notes and rune samples with her. There was much she wanted to share, along with much she wanted to learn and bring back to the Usqueans. An alliance would benefit them both immensely.
"Hmm... I wonder how Grandma's coping with the mists. She might be able to help Valera and Isolde with their predicament." She chuckled. More than that, she wondered if the knowledge she had gained from Avalux's research would be enough to finally match her in a duel. She could feel a few other strong magical presences out there, somewhere, as well. One of them was-
Wait, what the hell is that?! It was familiar. Too familiar, almost like a... mirror image.

With the loud flap of her wings, she flies along with the little dingy. Sometimes these dreaded wings did have their uses. The wings aren't the weirdest thing about Valera's get-up. That would be the ridiculously frilly wedding dress she has on. "What is this place? Isra, I remember you mentioning that before Jun but is this it?" Valera never really asked them much about where they were from. This place looks incredible, though the three of them have been out in the wilderness for a good handful of weeks. During those weeks, she did learn to get along better with her other half. Sure Isolde is a bit of a trickster, but she did help new love blossom. Even Valera is a sucker for love, who isn't? What irony to wear a wedding dress and be insanely single. Maybe if this curse gets broken she can give the dress to Jun. "What do you think you two will do after you get settled?" This settlement will be a good change for Valera. She enjoys the kindness and bonding she does with her new friends, but she can't keep following them around like some lost puppy. Time to have a life of her own.
"Grandma? Is that her name or title? No matter, if you think she can help then count me on board. I want to be able to wear pants again and have normal shoes and I'm sure Isolde wants to be separated from her conjoined twin as much as I do." Valera sits on the side of the dingy her wings flapping lightly to keep her from putting her full weight on the dingy for fear she'll tip the little boat. She dangles her feet over the edge to dip into the water. The cursed heels she usually wears have been abandoned before well they even set sail.
"Thank you again for allowing me to come along. The journey always seems shorter and sweeter when you have good company around."

There’s a longship approaching the dock, and they’re sending a dinghy ahead. Or so said Lady Naoki’s page. Here at the docks now with her spyglass, she sees it to be true.
The longship seems largely unremarkable. Not of a type she recognizes, and not obviously preparing to attack. The dinghy… A woman with the wings of an Archangel, in a bridal gown? Naoki’s tail bristles slightly, as that’s incredibly suspicious and overtly threatening. Based on her experience, the wings of an angel spell trouble in almost every circumstance. Aside from the angel-woman, there are a few soldiers, a learned man, and…
“That’s Jun.” Naoki says it aloud, her surprise evident. She looks up over the spyglass, and then through it again. She blinks several times, but it still looks an awful lot like Jun in that boat.
As she puts her spyglass away, Lady Naoki’s eyes remain on the dinghy, and she hums, thinking. If it is Jun, that angel woman probably won’t be an issue, which is good. If it’s not, if it’s perhaps some alternate, Evil Jun, Naoki supposes that there might very well be some fighting today.
She hums again, and shrugs a bit to herself. Not much for it. As she watches, the dockworkers, acting on standing orders, beckon the small boat toward a small pier, where a man stands ready to toss a rope and assist with docking. Frankie is probably around here somewhere, but who better to greet these newcomers and handle this situation than Lady Naoki herself? Making her way down to the docks, she stops to wait near the end of the pier. A few Guardsmen fall in behind her and stand in a rough formation. The newcomers will be allowed to come ashore and dust themselves off before she greets them.

Fran'garaz "Frankie"
Established
Roleplay posts: 44
Age: 30
Appearance: Frankie stands at a small 5 foot even. This is of course taller than most goblins, who average out at about 4 feet to 4'4 feet, but shes far shorter than those of her father's race, as orcs tend to average 6+ feet.
She's unmistakable as a half Goblin however, by her green skin and short darker green hair, her long, pointed ears, and her long, mischievous grin. However, some orc does creep into her features, most notably by the small tusks that jut up from the bottom of the jaw. They're small enough that they're only noticeable when she smiles.
Her face is slightly more attractive than most goblins, with high cheekbones, large orange pupiled eyes, and a slightly upturned button nose. Her hair is mostly unkempt on top with similar bangs that droop down at the top of her jaw, but the back is usually pulled into a small, messy ponytail.
Finally, she sports a handful of golden rings through her ears, as well as a ring through her septum.
Though she could be considered relatively attractive, she's still prone to goblin hyperactivity from time to time which twists her features. In such a state, her eyes and grin seem to grow larger and slightly crazed, but this state is usually one of joyfulness and mischievousness, and rarely ends in injury. Instead, it's more likely to result in mere property damage
Equipment: Frankie is a merchant vessel captain first and foremost. To keep up appearances, she can usually be found wearing a white silken shirt, a big red belt with a golden buckle, and a pair of navy pants that match her captain's coat and tricorn hat.
However, she never really forsook her tribal heritage. When out in the wilds or jn private, she sometimes can be found in her a light, leather and fur top that covers her from half way up her midsection and up to her neck, leaving her midriff and arms exposed. This is coupled with a matching skirt that reaches just above her knees, and finally a pair of wraps that cover her shins and ankles, then wraps around the middle of her feet, leaving the ankles and toes exposed, giving her better purchase when in the brush.
Frankie is an expert with a knife and always has one on her for personal protection, but she is also a great shot with a bow and arrow, having been taught by her mother. Though her father always wanted to teach her how to wield an axe, being an orc, she found that she had trouble with the weight of such weapons, and decided a quick, versatile fighting style would keep her alive longer.
Finally, though not equipment, she owns her own trade ship. A fairly large boat for a goblin, the ship is one part her home, one part transport hauler, and one part store front. She's spent a good few years collecting and trading that the hull of the ship is mostly full of all sorts of goods.
Skills and Abilities: Frankie is a merchant first and foremost. Goblins tended to do most of the trading in her mixed tribe, as the orcs weren't as charismatic nor crafty enough to trade efficiently. The goblins however used their stature and the stereotypes of their kind to their advantage, allowing their trade partners to think they're ripping them off, when the tables are actually turned.
As a half Goblin, Frankie is able to use a handful of tactics from both goblins and larger humanoids, as well as her looks. She's a fair merchant, but has a keen eye for an excellent deal. She's one to take advantage of whatever situation she comes into, and usually ends up on top.
Being the daughter of a goblin ranger and an orc warrior, she also knows how to hunt and fight with great skill, choosing range and a knife as well as her own two hands.
Finally, like most goblins, she is prone to Goblin Hyperactivity. When this occurs, starts to think, speak, and move at great speeds, often running and climbing from one thing to the other, and it usually ends with great joy and mischief as well as likely property damage. There's no time to consider not breaking something when there's fun to be had, stuff to climb, and things to do.
Enemies of the goblins often consider this akin to a berserker frenzy, but those who are friends of the goblins either join in the fun or stay out of the way.

The half goblin stood beside Naoki and gently tapped her pipe against the subtle tusk that usually sat behind her lower lip, one of the only indications of her father’s heritage. After a few clicks in thought, wondering how to deal with the ship, she looked up at Naoki, then back out to the approaching boat. Who’s Jun?
Still, having clocked Naoki’s reaction, the half goblin smirked to herself and reached up to adjust her hat. “Looks like you’ve got this one handled, boss,” she said, then took a happy puff on her pipe. “I’ll catch up with your page later for a rundown.” With that, she turned about on her heel and looked back down the pier. “My boys are yours if you need ‘em.” She gave a tip of her hat and a wink.
With that, she set off down the pier with the confident stride of a dockmaster. It had been a productive day! Saw off some silly little tramp and her crew, the boss was taking the next batch, and she had some great plans indeed.
She took a moment to look over the side of the pier to the small boat that approached, giving them the once over. The boss and her goonsquad could take care of them if they caused a ruckus, so instead Frankie moved along, heading back to her office and pausing only to wave to a group of her crew overseeing several crates that were being unloaded - or more accurately the only human woman among them, one with stark red hair - as if being the only one without green skin wasn’t enough to set her apart already.
The captain gave a short chuckle, and whistled her way back to her office, the tall structure that oversaw most of the docks from its heart. It was, indeed, a great day.

Jun's brief history wasn't unappreciated, he'd heard quite a bit about Isra from Jun and her friend Alden over the last few days. That had been such a missed opportunity, but it had been made clear to him that any attempt to study Alden's runes would end poorly. The former assassins was of the opinion that the work was to never be repeated and even an offer to swear to never recreate them was insufficient to sway him.
"After the formalities are out of the way, I was told there are people here who are studying magic so I was going to look into that group." He answered Valera's question before Jun spoke of a Grandma. Before he could ask his question the winged woman got to hers. "Name or title? I was going to ask if it is your actual Grandma." He flicked his gaze from Valera and back to Jun, waiting for an answer as they made it to the docks.
One of the sailors jumped to the wooden planks and he caught lines that were tossed his way. It wasn't long before they were pulled in next to pier and they could all get unloaded. It was left to Jun to make the first move toward the waiting Naoki and her guards.

Jun tried to ignore the strange presence. But in her gut she felt a pang of someone she's never met, but is like a... little brother? Sister? Older sister? A son? More than one person? Seriously, what is that?
"Uh, hehe. It's a title." Best to worry about it later. "Everyone calls her Grandma. Scariest spell caster around. May or may not be human. Spooky, statuesque, imperious aura, but very gentle and reasonable if you can get on her good side. If." She grinned, counting herself as one of the few people who did not fear her.
She looked up at Valeria, optimism in her eyes. "Even if she can't help, we'll find a way together. It... it-"
Her gaze drew back down to the dock; there she was.
The cat-eared empress herself.
The first memories that came were light, silly, but they struck with so much weight it physically hurt. Every unreasonably high quality dish dressed with artistic flourish of unpronounceable sauce, every rebuffed Sapphic gesture (and a few not so rebuffed), every eccentric companion she met under the auspices of the Moonlight Eclipse... and her awkward word salad rants whenever Lady Naoki asked her a vaguely philosophical question oh who could forget those? Jun had never appreciated how much Lady Naoki had to put up with before, even though Jun had probably repaid her plenty as one of her favorite guard dogs. That said, the one time their relationship had been significantly strained was when Jun had been forced to become a weapon of war for a noble cause, though she later admitted she would probably do it again if she truly felt she needed to.
No, it hadn't all been fun and games.
But it had been meaningful. Her relationship with Lady Naoki was one of the most important she had ever formed in her long tumultuous past. And she had only just recently begun to make peace with the fact that it was all drowned under a billion tons of water and would probably never return...
And it was just standing there on the dock, like some impossible ruby idol on an altar.
Jun had been foolish. Her mind had been filled with rune formulas and diagrams of mana matrices. She hadn't spent a single iota of time emotionally preparing herself for reuniting with Lady Naoki.
This was why she just stopped and stared, tears streaming down her cheeks, as the dinghy made it to the dock.
Oh, right, ropes. Unloading. Stuff. Business.
She climbed up to the dock, barely cognizant of Lady Naoki's guards. But she still kept her some distance from her, not out of fear, but because she was still caught in disbelief.
"... h-hi." Some opening move, a voice in the very far reaches of the back of her head said.

Preoccupied with her latest fancy, it doesn't seem like she put much thought into arriving. “Hi, Jun.” Lady Naoki repeats, smirking. “Welcome to Port Argentium.” Naoki spreads her arms to indicate the settlement behind her. It's very much built and bustling, but that's hardly the point right now. “You’re looking hearty and hale -- and younger than I remember. Introduce your friends, then we'll share a meal?”

Jun needed a moment to even articulate additional words. She spends a few seconds gazing a bit around at the settlement. She also used that time to wipe away the, at this point rather embarrassing, tears from her cheeks. Lady Naoki had always been far more calm and collected than her. She didn't know why she expected her to suddenly lunge at her with an embrace.
"I should have known, if anyone could assemble a city in the midst of a dangerous foreign world, it would be you."
Perhaps taking a cue from the awkward wave of the boat captain, Jun then said, "Ah, this is Captain Halfdan and his crew. They are from a tribe of people known as the Eygor Mjok. They seem to be an ancient offshot of the Varan people you once new. The floodwaters weren't just cruel to entire civilizations, but it seems the fabric of time itself. Anyways, they're good people, and they smell much better than they look."
(The Captain raised an eyebrow, which Jun ignored.)
She gestured back towards her traveling companions. "The winged one is named Valera. She's a former paladin with a curious affliction. At night time she becomes a playful trickster named Isolde. They're both quite charming in their own way. And the well-dressed gentleman there is Avalux Kesterven. He's a skilled logistician with knowledge of architecture and engineering, as well as an exceptional runemaster. He's also my b-b-"
Jun suddenly found the need to clear her throat. "My uh, my boyfriend. Together we've been living among the Usqueans, whom you might also remember. They survived the waters as well."
Addressing her comment about looking younger, Jun patted her cheeks. "Do I? I was never given to beauty routines back in the old world but now that you mention it the salt air has been doing wonders for my skin. Or maybe it's because I've been working out." She began hopping up and down as if this was some sort of demonstration of athletic ability. "Magic's not what it used to be. I can only defeat one outhouse-sized monster at a time instead of the usual twenty." She kept hopping up and down. She was obviously quite giddy now.
"You guys hungry? Lady Naoki has invited us to a meal." She asked Valera and Avalux, while still hopping up and down.

Avalux Kesterven
Committed
Roleplay posts: 94

As Jun drew attention to him Avalux shifted and adjusted his collar. Maintaining his shirt, vest, and slacks in the new world had been a bit of a hassle but it was worth it. The elven silk provided fantastic levels of comfort and he enjoyed the additional pockets of the vest, where he stored a variety of tools like an inscribing rods chisel, and stick of chalk.
He stepped up next to Jun and noticed the state she was in he. He reached out and took her hand offering a light squeeze to her palm. "Er, yes, I am her boyfriend." He had not quite expected to be introduced as she had. Not that it was inaccurate just rather, direct to just be telling people that. He was, perhaps, a bit overly private he knew but there was no taking back what had been declared and he wouldn't deny a fact. He let his hand slip from Jun's as he let out a breath and gathered himself.
"A pleasure to meet you Lady Naoki, Jun has told me much about you. Nothing but high praise I assure you." All trace of awkwardness left his voice and his face turned into a practiced polite smile that spoke of long hours of careful practice in a mirror, ensuring perfect control of his features so as to not give anything away, in short, the smile of a politician. The effectiveness of this smile at concealing his emotions diminished considerably since his cheeks were flushed a slightly pale pink.
The conversation progressed and eventually an invitation was made he nodded his head. "A meal sounds lovely. Shall we then?" Seeing no reason to delay, in departure he ready his bag and when the others were ready, he would depart with the group.

How interesting for someone to have the title grandma. Maybe in a way this mysterious person is everyone's grandma? She must be a pretty powerful caster, one that Valera would most definitely seek out when she gets settled. She stands next to Jun and Avalux and takes in the leader of the settlement. A woman of poise and purpose. There are people with animal characteristics from where Valera is from, seeing the additional feline features on Naoki did not phase her. Naoki reminded Valera of someone she once knew. An old friend forged from rivalry. Valera instinctively shakes her head, waving the memory away. This is a different person. As Jun introduces her she gives a small wave of her fingers. "Nice to meet you, this is a great settlement you've created. I can't wait to see what else it has to offer." Meeting new people has always been a slight bit difficult for her. In the past, she had her armored suit to hide in. Now, there is no such projection. This damned dress made her feel vulnerable and exposed. She especially didn't like not having her helmet. It gave her an excuse to not worry about having to smile. "I see there is a beach here. I have never been" she comments to no one or everyone. Valera isn't sure if she will even like the beach.
"A meal? I would be delighted, I'm absolutely ravenous." She follows the group
