This part of the forest is so thick and so deep that to an unexperienced backpacker will easily get lost and may never come back again. This forest has a host of different tree some standing 25 to 30 feet tall, underneath is foliage. Bushes of all kinds, some poisonous some edible. The animals are plentiful a great place to hunt for anyone crazy enough to stay there. The trees would span seemingly forever from the mountains to where one would enter. The weather kept a pleasant cool underneath the tree cover but occasionally would storm so... Make sure you find a place to stay. Scattered amongst the terrain of hills and valleys are a caves available for exploration for those who are daring (Or stupid) If one would pay attention there is a slight path cut into a few trees. Fresh and on purpose it seemed to be a guide to a clearing with a camp and a small shrine place on the edge of a lake.

Xiong approached the spot after spending weeks trying to find it. He marked down the location on the map and would smile. Day one. The most important day. He would set down the pack and extra supplies against a tree and would sit down by it. Resting for merely a moment he got up and got to work. Starting with a camp he created a shelter out of leaves and twigs hoping the weather will hold. Next a campfire, setting up the small campfire he cut dot a few trees with an axe and set them aside cutting them with ease. He put up a nice organized pile of wood by the shelter. He would lay out a mat under the shelter and sit examining the area and planning the next days.
Two weeks would pass and he was well settled in. He had a wooden shelter, a small little hut with a bedroom and a living room. He had taking clay and stone mixing it together creating a fireplace and moved the campfire. A few days in and he noticed predators in the area stalking him. Thinking quickly he set up a fence typing them up with long dried strands of vines and long grass tied together. with sharp sticks protecting the wall its self. He had taken the time and set up a hunting blind and traps, taking only what was needed from the abundance of game in the area. He set up a leather drying area and even a smoking pit for the meats. All was well underway and he was.... Content. But the next step was the shrine.
It took in a good month to find the materials needed for rebuilding it. Building it from memory was easy but the materials took him longer to find but alas he found them. He stood half naked in the water finishing it to the EXACT specifications. He stepped back and set the prayer beads in the bowl he too from the shrine at the teahouse. He would sit in the water and just... Prayer. Hoping for a sign. He waited until the moon was out and completely full shining its radiance down on the shrine and still he didn't not move from his zen state.

The winds howled. The waters swirled. The trees rustled.
Nature sang in the way it always did, especially when she was around. Every bird and bug, rodent, and predator he knew from the old world gathered around, just out of sight from the greenery, as Xiong sat in the water, praying to the shrine. Fish swam in circles at his ankles, and even the clouds above mimicked the motion as the moon sat perfectly above, reflecting in the water.
Then, the reflection began to grow, at first gently, as a full moon would. Then it became brighter, tainted with a shade of red, and the water grew hot- so much so that it prickled Xiong's skin and threatened to scald it! All the while, the animals howled, hooted, and chirped. The reflection rose up, writing and screaming, its form coalescing into a human shape. It wasn't until the brightness began to melt away from the shape's skin did the animals become silent, and fled into the night, as though they never were.
Before him, a young woman wrapped her arms around herself, sharing the visage of every ordinary village girl he'd ever known... all except for the pale antlers sitting atop her head and the sharp teeth gently peeking out from her lips.
Startled, she looked up, eyes wide and panicked. She stared at the man with disbelief.
"... Xiong?" she rasped. "What's happening?"

The winds howled. The water swirled around him he opened his eyes loud around at the water and tree with a sweet smile "Welcome back Meili" He was surprise to feel the fish around him though he should have expected it coming from his friend.
When nature sang he stood up and looked around watching the tree. Hearing the activity in the forest he looked around looking for her, looking for a trace of her ike he was used to. Instead there was animals. All of them. All of the creatures he knew from the old world gathered around the pond like some sort of ritual and he was, needless to say, he was confused. He eyed the pond once again still in the water now curiously looking at the clouds "Um... Thats new..." he said watching the sky and water mimic each other.. The the reflection started to rise.. He jumped a bit, now getting scared by the suddenly boiling red water.
Suddenly as the body was given a shape the creatures disappeared and despite the extremely hot water he pushed forward to her and went up to cradle her "Meili? I don't... How is this even possible?" he said placing his hand on her "How can I even touch you..?" he said looking her over and her new appearance "Wha-" he said stumbling over words.
Xiong lifted her tiny frame up clad in white. She was small in nature ordinary to some but in a weird way.... She was familiar. Aside from the antlers and the teeth "Lets get you inside." said walking with her in his arms wading through the water "I don't understand... How this is even possible." He said frowning slightly "I mean I know this place is magical in nature and the mist is definitely not natural... But to effect you of all spirits.." he said sighing "I'm sorry I brought you here... When the everything happened... I worried what would happen to you..." he said setting her down on his make shift bed in the shelter that was upgraded now to a hut with wooden walls and even a floor seemingly made of broken ship parts and pieces of the crates that he stashed on the beach. He sat beside her pulling up a blanket over her "Ill admit... This is... new" he said eyeing her over "Makes me think that this place.. Might be a tear of some sort..?" He said thinking out loud for a moment. He shifted forward closing the door and lighting a lantern. Sitting back he sat closer to her "Well...Welcome to... The world of the living?" he said grabbing a bottle of rum salvaged from the ship "Do... You eat and drink and stuff." he said eyeing her hand and touching her again making sure she was real.
He looked over to her "So... What happened to you..?" he sat back pulling out some dried meat and eating a little of it, offering her some "I.. Lost my ship and my crew. I don't know where the others went." he sighed sadly "Ive been alone for months." he looked down "Are... You even here..?' he looked incredibly sad.

When his arms reached around her, she gasped. So long had it been since she felt the warmth of a mortal's hands on her skin. Had she ever really known it? Something itched in the back of her mind that the sensation was familiar, but no memories came. She wasn't quite sure how she came to this strange place, because it certainly wasn't her forest!
Xiong's mutterings did not help ease her mind, but parsing his words cleared up some of the confusion. He must have built a shrine here to extend her territory, but something about this place interrupted it. Was it a greater spirit? A sorcerer? The nature of this very place? She couldn't be sure. Meili's thoughts scrambled as Xiong carried her and the cold air brushed against her wet skin. That was also new; the chill bit like a snake's fangs. The water tickled as it dripped from her arms. Her body was heavy, as though a rock bore over her. So many sensations at once hit her in a whirl.
"... my world, it was underwater," she said dizzily, curling up on the cot. "Everything was gone. It was so quiet, Xiong. Now and again, I would see something through the waves, but it would not let me near it. I cannot say how much time passed, but I am here now."
Quiet. That's how it was now! She pushed herself up as fast as she could, closing her eyes to try and listen. There were birds and the rustle of foliage occasionally, but... the thrum of the forest, its everpresent heartbeat, the whispers of the trees and the laughter of the rivers, it was all gone. Tears welled up in her eyes.
"Xiong," she whispered. "I am here, but I don't think I'm a spirit anymore."

Xiong shook his head and sighed sadly "I'm sorry Meili." he said wrapping his arm around her hugging her close to him. "But at least you are alive?" He smiled softly "Who knows what would have happened to you if it did get close." he said softly pondering a moment "So your realm was effected by a catastrophe too.." he sat back hugging his knees he let out a sigh again and released his knees turning to her "You know what? What happened... Happened." he said wit a firm nod "You are here and thats what matters." he said with a smile.
When the tears welled up her reached over and brushed them away "Hey now. None of that ok?" he said with a reassuring nod "We will figure this out. For now, its a mortal life for you." He said standing up staking a bit of the sail from outside left from the other wrecked ships along the coast and nailed it to the ceiling we would slip behind it taking off his wet clothes, the light of the lantern illuminating his form in a dull light. He would drop the wet clothes to the side and would grab what seemed to be another blanket and would wipe himself down. He remerged moments later in a fresh outfit, not his usual monk style but more of a warrior. He would grab another set of his cloths and offer it to Meili "I dont know the extent of how mortal you are right now but if you are you might get sick from your cloths Ill hang them up in the morning." he said sitting back down next her her sliding underneath the covers sitting closer to her.
"Meili... Get some rest ok? Ill make you food let you wander a bit." he smiled and nodded placing his hand on hers "You may not be a spirit anymore but you are still special." He smiled "Think of this as a new adventure, we used to like those running through the forest together."

The once spirit of the wilds stared past Xiong towards the entrance of the shack. He apologized to her, and for that, she wasn't sure why. For bringing her here? For forcing her into mortality? There was no way to know if her previous situation was any better. Indeed, she was different now, but worse off? She didn't know... she didn't know. And it was the uncertainty that frightened her. She spoke not of her concerns.
When Meili was offered the clothes, she mimicked him and went behind the sail, pulling off the wet shift to replace it with a simple robe. It was so long for her, it came down past her ankles, but at least it was warm and dry. Feeling the sensation of cloth against her skin was the strangest thing and even stranger that she knew how to navigate it, as though it was second nature. Everything Xiong had seen her wear before was a part of her spiritual body, so how did she know so quickly how to remove one garment and put on one that was completely different?
She sat down next to the man who was once her follower and pulled her knees into her chest with a sigh. "I do not care for being special. I want answers," she lamented. I want control.
Still, she couldn't help but smile at his last comment. "That will be good. Maybe that will help us find our way."

Xiong smiled and offered her a jug of water, he pulled up the blanket and covered them both as he =scooted close to her attempting to warm her up with his own body heat. He nodded and looked at her "And answers we might find." he smiled slightly "But the truth is humanity exists without answers so we have to be prepared." he nodded and place a hand on her shoulder "Find them or not I will be right next to you the whole way, as you were for me Meili." he said rubbing her shoulder lightly. A comforting gesture as if telling her it'll be alright.
"Though I find it curious that you know how to do certain things as a mortal," He said looking her over "I wonder what that means?" he said looking at his prayer beads "Also. I've always wondered... Why did you choose me?" he sighed "Out of all people why me?" he lifted up the long sleeve and rubbed his deep shackle scar "I always thought that I would always be in the darkness, my soul tainted with blood." He looked at her "When I found you. It gave me hope." he smiled softly but his eyes filled with grief "You and the kids gave me a semblance of peace." he smiled and took a drink of the rum. "So don't worry about this. You gave me hope. Now it's my turn to give you some too." he said laying back.
"Rest now tomorrow we will start to explore. Need to run down to the beach and grab more supplies from the wrecked ships, now that you are here I'll need to add on to the place. Unless you plan and staying next to me?" he said with a cheeky smile.

"Humanity exists without answers."
What an interesting realization, though Meili was intensely aware of it already. In many ways, she existed as a spirit to bewilder the humans. She was unpredictable, ever-changing from one second to another. She had power over the wilds and its denizens, could sometimes be seen, and other times was the wind through the trees. But she knew the answers then, of what she was and why she was. Now? She was like them, existing without answers.
She did not move as he came closer, eyes glazed over as she stared ahead and through him. Meili could feel the cold of the air and the warmth of his body and for the while, cared not for either.
"I will join you later," she sighed, curled up tightly against herself. She met his eyes, her own rolling soon after. "Even in this realm I know you, Xiong. Nothing strange from you!"

Xiong would slide down and put his hand behind his head looking up at the ceiling hearing the winds pick up outside smelling the rain in the air. Listening to the creatures sulk in the wild. He would close his eyes and focus on them he was quiet in a zen like state. He looked peaceful for the time being, the same as he would before he'd see Meili.
He would remain like that for at least ten minutes taking in all the sounds, the smells, everything. Opening his eyes he would look to Meili, ,"Well at least this place has some semblance of your home hm?" He said with a soft smile. He looked over at her "Oh I remember you watching me when I had guests." He pushed her playfully "Wasn't a great idea to put a shrine in the bedroom was it?" He chuckled.

"A bit more like 'happened upon you,' and not watching you," said the once-spirit, scoffing lightly at him. "I did not know you would put it in such a place. A bedroom is deeply personal! Even lovers parted by death have a separate room for their shrines." She placed a hand on her cheek and gazed out on the other side of the room. The children took it as a joke when they found out, but the greater spirit was less than amused when it first happened. Perhaps it was a testament to how devout he was to her worship, but even if she wasn't familiar with humans, she wasn't stupid.
With a sigh, she looked over her shoulder at him, letting the matter go for the time being. "Tomorrow. I will look through the forest, see if it is truly like the homeland. I don't sense any other spirits here... except that giant one."
Even here, its presence lingered.
"We must be inside its realm."

Xiong chuckled and shifted his head over looking at her "You know why I did it. So I could see you in my dreams." he pointed out "And to be closer to you." He turned back "And to be fair, not many people besides me were allowed in my home other than a few of my associates and the occasional vetting for a new associate but even that was held in the main room." he shrugged "I'm sorry if it made you uncomfortable, was never my intention." he said sighing and getting back up folding his hand and walking to the other side of the small room. "I'll leave you to rest." he said softly putting on his gear, leather armor a quiver of arrows, and putting his straight sword at his hip. He turned to her and nodded "Rest up. We will leave in the morning." He said pulling the door and stepping into the darkness placing the door back into its spot. His footsteps would be light, masked by the sound of the wind picking up. He was left pondering the idea of being in this realm, ITS realm. It troubled him.
It would be morning when he woke up in a tree watching over the camp. Visible to only those who know where to look. Xiong watched over the shack waiting for the spirit to get up so he could leave.

Appearance: Once, her appearance shifted with the wind or with the ebb and flow of the waves. Now, she finds herself stuck with dark brown hair straight as silk curtains, sunkissed skin, and black eyes like stones at the bottom of a lake. Her appearance is young, a woman in her early twenties, but thinner and smaller than she should be. Oddly enough, she's retained a pair of oddly sharp canines and a pair of antlers on her head from her previous life as a spirit.

Equipment: Meili carries nothing except the clothes on her back, which includes only the white shift that she has no clue to the origins of, as her clothes changed with her form when she was a spirit.

It was strange, this feeling. Or rather, that everything had a feeling. The cot beneath her side, her hand against her cheek, the beat of her heart in her palm. There were even feelings on the inside, which became more apparent in the morning! Her muscles ached from sleeping in the same position the entire time, and her stomach soured and gurgled ferociously. Meili grunted when she woke, her body disagreeing with every movement. While rubbing her eyes- something she didn't even realize she was doing- she walked out and instantly caught sight of Xiong camping up in the tree.
"... why so far away?" she asked, chiding him. "You do not know of the insects here. What if they crawled on you in your sleep and poisoned you?" Hmph. Foolish man. She strode by the tree, taking a look further into the woods. Some of these trees were... similar, but not the same. Even all the birdsong had new sounds to it. The crickets, the frogs? They were not her own.
"I wonder why we were brought here."

The air felt thicker to him, this place... Had a strange vibration to it. Like... A world between worlds. It bothered him. Everything was the same but it also wasn't. A shadow of the world they left, a twisted mirror of home. He felt strange here, out of place. From his perch, he looked out among the forest just watching. He had slept but only lightly, he had never gotten a full night's sleep, and his dreams are haunted by his past. SOmething Meili would have seen if she ever entered his them, seeing the shadows of his past. when she awoke he would look down and a bright smile adorned his face.
"Ayo!" he would smile and wave and would hang his leg off the side and dangle them "Eh been here for months, plus I and a very light sleeper." he chuckled and eyed her for a moment. He would climb down effortlessly and would land beside her, almost silently. He would reach into his backpack and would pull out one of his outfits but it was mended, surprisingly well he would hold it out to her. "For you. It lighter. SHould fit too." he said with a sweet smile. He would turn his gaze to the forest and his face looked concerned.
"Youre right. I need to be more careful." he said solemnly looking outwards into the deep forest "This place.. Is wrong. It's like we are trapped between the living and the dead realms." he eyed back at her "You feel it too dont you? The vibrations of this place. It's all off." he clutched his prayer beads and sighed "Honestly. I am not sure. Perhaps.... We are to be protected here?" he shrugged and smiled softly "Just a cheery thought!" he laughed breaking the awkward gloom that hung over them "Honestly I am just glad you are here.." he said looking down "I'm sorry for what happened to you and your home." he said looking at her placing a comforting hand on her shoulder "But look at this as a new adventure." he smiled sweetly again "And! I was also thinking you may not have your powers here.. Or it might take time to attune to its new surroundings?" he offered to her "Maybe the rules here are differnt than in our realms?' he shurgged. "Though I am liking your new look!" he teased her a little.
Xiong nodded his head in a direction "We head out that way but first! We eat!" he clapped his hands turning to the box of supplies pulling ut a ration pack used in ship travel and handed it to her, it contained rice and a few dried fruits. "Eat and drink for both our sakes." he smiled and walked to the pond where she was summoned and washed up a bit.

“Off. Yes, I agree it is strange,” said Meili, walking outside to gaze at the forest. “But it is not like the land of the dead. Not like my land.”
Having been a spirit, the girl was very at home with the realm of the afterlife. She was also acquainted with Xiong’s realm, where humans lived, and she would enter their dreams and live vicariously through them. Both realms were wild and unpredictable, bloody and beautiful, free to do as it pleased.
But here?
“It feels like the world is swinging,” said Meili. She took the bundle of cloth he gave her, then let it hang from her fingers, swaying it from side to side. “Back. Forth. In a rhythm. As though someone is controlling this realm. That is how the forest feels.” She then let her eyes rest on the man before her. “But when I look at you, it feels as though the rhythm is disrupted. As though we do not belong here. As though we do not belong to what looks after this place.”
Her gaze aimed itself upwards.
“And it feels like it is watching us now.”
After a moment of silence, the former spirit stewed on Xiong’s words. A smile came to her face. “A new adventure. I suppose something fresh is not unwelcome. Several hundred years alive in one place, you start to get too familiar with it.” She was lying, of course. She preferred the comfort of home, but being dour would help nothing, especially not him.
As she flipped the cloth over her head, she spread her arms and took a good look at herself. “Do you not think I am plain?” she asked, frowning. “I am like every other girl now. No antlers, no fangs, no scales.”
