Age: 53(?)
Appearance: The reference image is a commissioned piece and is accurate.
Alden is 6 even, with shoulder-length messy black hair, and several days worth of beard stubble. He is handsome, with a powerful jaw, mid-set cheekbones, and a perpetual grin that makes him seem younger than he really is. His bright green eyes, constantly sparkle with barely contained mirth. He has the lithe well-muscled body of a swordsman, and he moves with considerable grace and dexterity.
If one were to do a more thorough examination of Alden's eyes they may notice a further detail. Around the outside edge of his iris, there's an intricate series of minuscule grey runes.
Underneath his shirt, Alden's skin is a mass of scar tissue. Starting from just below his neckline, there is very little space that does not sport some relic of a past injury. A particularly observant person may also note that among these scars, some are a bright scarlet. These scarlet scars form an intricate series of runes hiding amidst the rest of the scars.
-------------------------------------------
Equipment: Alden's general loadout when he goes fighting consists of the following:
A twin set of enchanted shortswords. The simple straight blades are unnatural dark, absorbing rather than reflecting light. Giving the enchanted steel an appearance closer to cold iron. The guard has the Isran sun emblem emblazoned in a medallion shape just above the guard, which is wrapped in simple leather. The enchantments increase their sharpness and durability, as well as being able to ignite the blood of anything that he has pierced with either blade.
Numerous braces and hidden throwing knives all over his body. At one point, these were also enchanted but when the calamity struck he didn't have time to grab his original set. So these are all well-made but ultimately mundane weapons. Still, with his strength and skill, they can be quite deadly.
Unfortunately, at present, he is also missing his armour. His preferred armour is leather dyed in mottled black and greys, with strike plates sewn between layers for added protection. His old set was also enchanted for increased protection from physical and magical attacks.
-------------------------------------------
Skills and Abilities: Alden is, for lack of a better term, a weapon master. He has been trained to use almost any weapon you can think to name. Relentless daily training with each, with extraordinarily demanding expectations on performance and harsh incentives for failure giving a level of skill with most of them that make him formidable.
However, his preferred style involves twin short swords. While he is skilled with all of his weapons thanks to training, he discovered a natural talent with the blade. His level of skill when wielding his short swords is on another level entirely, nearly transcendent in his skill.
On top of that, he is a living magical enchantment. Carved into his body are a variety of runes that grant him numerous innate abilities. He is inhumanly strong, around three to four times stronger than a man in a similar state of physical fitness would be. This also applies to his endurance, speed, reflexes, and other physical traits. He also has regenerative abilities exceeding human normal, able to heal from even broken bones in a matter of days rather than weeks.
In addition, he is immune to most poisons and resistant to the rest. The runes etched into his eyes ensure he can see the same no matter the level of light and reveal magical auras to him. Runes along his back make him impossible to scry on directly and provide him a measure of resistance to magical attack. This, combined with training, also makes him immune to magical mental influence. Finally, runes on his feet dampen any sound he might make taking his already considerable stealth abilities to another level entirely.
Speaking of his training also included all of the skills one would think an Assassin should have. He knows how to mix poisons, move without being seen or making noise, scale walls, lie or disguise himself, pick locks, pick pockets, just for starters. He is also quite skilled at clerical work and he has some diplomacy ability after thirty years leading the Sun Marshals.
Beyond all of this, Alden also possesses an incredible amount of willpower. If Alden decides that he will do something, there is very little that can stop him from doing it. In fact, at present, the only thing that could deter him from a course of action is Captain Naoki. The former Empress is the only person he has any loyalty to and he often values her judgement on matters above his own.
-------------------------------------------
Biography: Alden was born to a small farming family in an out-of-the-way village. His parents named him Toan and until he was five his destiny was most likely to live and die on the same farm he was born. However, that all changed when Pride arrived.
The leader of a criminal group known as The Set, Pride offered his parents a sum of money that would make any poor farmer's heart stop. Enough money to change their lives forever and all he wanted was Alden, one of nearly a dozen children. A child that wasn't even old enough to help with chores around the farm yet. And the man as so nice, he wanted a ward that he could train to be a retainer how bad of a life could that be?
The answer to that question was basically Hell. Pride was a potent alchemist, enchanter, and scholar and he had but one goal in mind. To create a superior warrior. Alden was subjected to hellish daily training along with six other children. Forced to learn to fight with every weapon, against any foe, in any condition. His limbs were broken deliberately and he was forced to continue to fight and train in constant agony. And this was among the mildest of the ways he was trained.
The culmination of the training came when he was twelve. When he and the six other children were locked in a room and told that the only one who got to leave... was the only one to survive. Of course, surviving was hardly a reward.
Once Pride had only the strongest of the children left he proceeded to the next step of his plan. Alden's memories and identity were seared away as Pride carved runes into his flesh and his very soul. Transforming the young man into a living magical artifact and keeping him on a drug that suppressed all of his emotions.
From there Alden became the new Wrath of the set, a weapon meant only to slay those he was told to. That may have been all he would be but Pride made a miscalculation, Alden's runes helped him to build an immunity to the dosage meant to keep his emotions in check, a weakness made worse by Pride having let him keep his anger thinking it would make him a better weapon. Eventually, events conspired and Alden snapped when the only member of The Set to be kind to him, Sloth, was killed for threatening to expose Pride.
Alden, driven into a deeper rage than ever before killed Envy, Lust, Gluttony, and even disembowelled Pride. Greed manage to escape and Alden slaughtered everything in his path trying to catch the man. Eventually succeeding in his goal. Bereft of a target for his rage and the chase having left him in the middle of nowhere Alden finally collapsed the trauma and coming off of the dosage causing him to bury most of his memories.
He wound up in Isra where his talents and skill soon earned him the eye of the then, criminal Madam Naoki. She recruited him as one of her enforcers a role he continued as her power expanded and grew until she finally became Empress. His reward for his loyalty? Appointment to the head of The Sun Marshals her special police force, effectively making him her right-hand man.
During this time he also uncovered his own past and learned that Pride had survived, the man had made preparations for such an eventuality and his death only saw his soul moving to a phylactery as he became a lich.
Pride created a new Set, this time making each member just as he made Alden. Eventually, this culminated in Pride attacking Isra and his eventual, final defeat.
Decades have passed since that time and Alden, whose power kept him at his prime for years continued to serve Isra until the new calamity took him to The Island of Mists, his empress reduced to a captain and he now serving as her first mate.

Watching the reveal of the gifts Alden glances towards Ahna. While material possessions were of questionable worth to him, much like Katiana he found that the horned woman thinking of her friend when deciding what to do with it was quite admirable. Well, he supposed that was a truism. A person could have many admirable qualities and still have friction with another person. While this was certainly an interesting train of thought he was eager to get moving.
Thankfully, with Naoki's curiosity satiated that was finally on the table. She had thwarted his attempt to slink away earlier so it appeared as though she was quite determined to talk to him now. Of course, Alden was well aware that this was likely for the best. He'd just been disinclined to be around anyone lately. While he'd realized he wanted more friends the thought of facing those who had looked at him with such distaste at the feast... Well, it wasn't appealing.
Still, he gave Katiana a wave before leaving matching the woman's own. Wishing he could sum up a smile for her but he knew what was coming, Naoki had made it quite clear when she'd brandished her finger at him earlier. Trying to put this particular issue into an easily understood set of words was going to be difficult. Especially as his understanding of it changed and evolved. His own emotions feeling like a ball of yarn he needed to untangle... There was a cat with a ball string joke to be made there he supposed but damned if he knew what it was. With that sort of nonsense filling his head Alden exits the scene with Naoki.

Appearance: Shyv'ahna, or Ahna for short, is an Av' nomad woman, standing at 180cm (6ft) tall. Though tall for a woman, she is in fact the average for most Av' women. She has light lavender skin, intersected by feint tattoos that glow while using magic, her eyes are golden, and her hair a very dark purple. Though mostly humanoid, she possesses a set of bowed legs, not unlike other Av’, and a pair of horns that curl around her ears.
She adorns herself with jewellery, specifically gold caps to her horns, silver and golden rings, two on the right side of her eyebrow, four in her right ear, and one through her septum.
Her body type is strong and toned, forged through years of patient training, fighting, and more travel than most would do in a single life time. It is covered, much like her face, in tattoos, jewelry and the occasional scar, from top to bottom, though most would never know considering her rather conservative wardrobe.
Equipment: Ahna uses medium armour. Leather, light scaled metal, and chainmail make up the most of her regular outfit, but all under a dark blue poncho, adorned with golden stitching and traditional Av'rae patterns that dance across its light blue trim.
Her travelling armour consists of a chain vest and a scaled skirt that reaches her knees around the back and sides, leaving the front open, starting at her belt and fanning out. Over the chain vest, she usually wears a leather corset to keep it in place.
In a trunk inside her vardo, however, sits a much more elegant set of armour, one she hadn’t worn in quite some time, her Elder Guard armour. Forged from the finest metals in dwarven-supervised forges, her Elder Guard armour has both the toughness valued by dwarves, but the mobility favoured by the Av’rae. It’s an elegant suit, tailored and forged to fit Ahna’s form, with its cuirass, graves, skirt, bracers, and boot plating made from the finest mithril, a light but extremely sturdy metal. The trim and under suit are made of a soft, breathable cotton, as is the cape that covers one shoulder.
The helmet of her Elder Guard Armour is ornate, to say the very least. It’s a closed design from back to front, but with openings to slide up around her horns, and a T-shaped visor for her stunning golden eyes to peer out of. The front of the opening is often covered by a thin chain mail for protection, as is her neck guard.
The armour’s colour matches her standard pallet, with the mithril painted mostly in a purple, with its trim painted a fine, reflective gold. The cotton of her armour, such as her undersuit and cape, are a fine dark purple with golden stitching that matches her regular shawl.
Her weapons are just as expertly forged, her primary weapon being a two handed pole weapon most would consider a fauchard, a long pole with an ornate, curved blade attached to the top, the blade on one side of the weapon’s top while a hook sat on the other, giving her the option to slash, stab, and pull as necessary. Though most Av’rae prefer to fight with two handed weapons, Shyv’Ahna also carries an ornate dagger with a similarly curved blade, just in case.
Finally, she is also an adept with a crossbow, though she prefers to fight with her melee prowess.
For transport, Shyv’Ahna has a vardo, a caravan of sorts, that she uses to transport her things as well as live inside with comfort. Being of the nomadic sort, Shyv’Ahna has no desire to a standard home, one that doesn’t move, so a Vardo, pulled by her beast of burden Bahsel, does the trick perfectly.
Bahsel, her beast of burden, is a creature rarely seen without an Av’ companion. Nobody can understand why or how, but the Av’rae are one of the few people to find these creatures’ native land and tame them for both work and protection. Bahsel could be described as a large, muscular porcupine, with thigh legs, built perfectly for work, a thick hide to protect from predators, a pair of large front teeth, perfect for chewing on its usual diet of roots and plants, and finally a back covered in quills that not only stop melee attackers, but can also be shot outwards like a series of javelins, that grow back quicker than most would expect.
Together, Ahna and Bahsel travel the lands, always ready for the next adventure.
Skills and Abilities: Ahna has spent years training and being trained in combat, and she has become an expert fighter with two handed pole weapons, daggers, and hand to hand combat, making her a fierce enemy to face, or one hell of a good sparring partner if you don’t mind a few bruises. She also carries a crossbow, but she mostly uses it for hunting. She’s a great shot, but her preference is found in melee.
Before the end times and the escape from the destroyed lands, Ahna was a strong, and sometimes scary mage. The Av’rae are some of the more magically-tuned folk in the old world, and Ahna was no exception, but after travelling away she can feel her powers weaken, as if stopped by something. Normally she could conjured lightning and electricity in the palm of her hand, powering her attacks while also zapping her enemies as needed, and on the rare occasion, under a cloudy sky and with great inner rage, she could even conjure storms, but no longer. Now, she can barely use her magic at all. Perhaps she just needs to find new ways to channel it…
Being a nomad, Ahna is an expert traveller and guide, able to traverse most terrain and survive in some of the more harsh environments, making her an exceptional pathfinder, if asked nicely and presented with enough gold.

Ahna is surprised by the hug, but she accepts it nonetheless. She quickly realised it was the first one she’d had since they’d all landed on the blasted island. Ahna’s bare purple skin seemed to bristle a little at the touch and a small swirl of emotions ran through her head, but before any of them could make any sense it was over. Probably for the best, she thought as Katiana shifted to wave Naoki and Alden away.
The Av’ shakes her head to clear the fog that had rolled in, and smiles at her friend. Right, the chair. “You are probably my closest friend on this island,” she says, putting one hand on the back of the chair. “And I have not been known to keep friends for overly long, unless they mean a lot to me. I believe you are among those few, or will be. It is hard to tell, new life, new experiences.”
When invited in, Ahna considers it for a moment, then nods. “I’ll be right behind you. Need to make sure Bahsel doesn’t wander off.” As Katiana heads inside, the Av’ pats her animal companion’s big ol’ head and speaks to him in her native language, one that almost seemed sing-song-y when spoken softly. She then takes his reins and hitches them to the side of Katiana’s house.
“I will not be long,” she says in her native tongue. “But best be comfortable, my friend. You deserve a rest before we go home.” The beast tilts his head at her, and she puts her hands on her bare hips. “It is strange for me too, old friend, being invited into someone’s home. New experiences.”
The beast doesn’t answer and instead just flops himself down on the ground, getting comfy. Atta boy.
Finally, the Av’ enters and gently closes the door behind her. “A novel idea, using dirt and grass for a roof.” The Av’ had swapped back into her accent-laden Common once again. “I prefer windows for a through breeze and a stove for warmth, but that is easier in my Vardo. You have done well for yourself, my friend.”
When Kat finds a spot, Ahna crosses her arms and smiles warmly. “That is a good sight,” she says in a quiet voice. “This will be a good home for it, I am sure.” Then her eyes go to Kat and she chuckles lightly. “I am surprised you are more excited about the chair than the whiskey. You continue to exceed my expectations.”

Appearance: When you want to hide a tree, you hide it in a forest. Similarly, if you wanted to hide Katiana, you would put her in a crowd of humans. Brown hair, brown eyes, thin features, and an unremarkable height may not set her apart, but the way she manipulates her expressions and gallivants around certainly do. Those who know her are familiar with a particularly mischievous left-sided smirk, above which forms a dimple. Those who have yet to meet her will immediately know her for the way she bounces from one place to the next, holding her skirts in her hands.
____________________________________________________
Equipment: A recurve bow made of elm, a small wood-cutting ax, and a skinning knife complete Katiana's non-exhaustive equipment. Being an adventurer who often loses herself in the wilderness, she also favors flint and tinder, rope, medicines, a waterskin, sewing supplies, and food rations.
____________________________________________________
Skills and Abilities: Though not particularly concerned in the art of warfare, Katiana has been a hunter for as long as she could hold a bow, and over the years, she became proficient with it. One could assume that if she needed to point her arrow at a charging warrior rather than a boar, she would have the same chances of hitting it. Years of adventuring have also taught her skills in survival.
Though she has no skills in magic, nothing is stopping her from learning. Katiana's family has a history of mages, though none have been particularly gifted.

Katiana could barely hear Ahna speak to the spiky beast of burden. She adored the language, though she could not speak it. So soft were the Av's words when she had the want for it.
Patiently, she waited for Shyv'Ahna to come inside, and when she did, mentioning the whiskey, the woman went pale. "Goodness! I was so focused on the chair!" she exclaimed, rushing forward to take the bottle. "Many thanks! Shall we have a taste now? I'd say it is an extraordinary occasion. But... cups, now... do I have cups... ah! In my pack."
Darting over to her leather satchel, the hunter fished out two clay cups she'd... acquired... from the kitchens just minutes before. They had hundreds over there and the potters were always making more, so who could possibly be missing a measly two?
"I do say, a bit of aqua vitae is a particularly favorite pastime for me during celebrations."

Ahna chuckles a little at her forgetful friend. “I am not offended, Kat. It just means my chair is better than the whiskey.” She takes a seat at one of the other chairs and puts her hands down on the table, a little unsure of herself for the moment. “I will take that as an incredible compliment.”
She watched as Katiana fumbled about, looking for her cups, then smiled warmly when she finally brought them out. “No need to break out the fine tableware on my account,” she says, offering the other woman a wink. She takes a cup and waits for Katiana to make he first pour. “Aqua vitae?” she asks, quirking an eyebrow. “Is this what your people call whiskey? I thought it was just… you know…” she gives a shrug of her purple shoulders. “Whiskey.”

"I did speak to a few about that. It would seem to some, aqua vitae was an earlier name for distilled... oh, what was the name? Liquors! Whiskey is a newer invention for some, while for others, like me, never knew of it. All I knew before coming here was wine, mead, grog, and aqua vitae. It doesn't taste terribly different, though it is a might stronger!" She poured what was just a bit more than a shot in each cup, then held it up.
"To housewarmings. And good friends. Katiana hefted the cup, smiling before she threw it back.
She was in a coughing fit immediately.
"... a bit stronger, indeed."

"Uh.... huh..." Ahna mutters as she runs a thumb over the rim of her glass, listening to the origins of such a name. Ultimately, it wasn't overly interesting. "The more we speak, the more I realise more and more how different our worlds are."
"It's a shame your experience with alcohol is limited to such simple examples," the Av' continues as her glass is poured. "I will have to expand your horizons a little. It may mean sacrificing more of my collection but..." She gives a little shrug. "It is meant to be drunk eventually."
"To good friends," Ahna echoes, raising her glass in a toast. She downs the glass without much of a grimace and sighs happily as she feels it warm her belly. "Ah, the good stuff. I will admit, I needed a reason to open a bottle like this. I am glad I found one in you, Kat."

"I jest not: it really has been incredible. To think that worlds that are so different exist! I used to think that the other cultures in my world were so different from one another. Here, people vary so much from one to the next. Even some of those who call themselves human aren't completely so. At least, not like my own," Katiana said after her drink. She did express interest in expanding her horizons,[/] but understood it would be for another time.
"And in you. You and Coatl are the first people I made friends of here. Roxanne will take a bit more coaxing!" she laughed. "But I'm sure she'll come around. Speaking of which, what do you say about a journey? In one month's time. There are mountains in the distance. I'm sure you've seen them! I do like it here, but we need to explore. This whole land has too many secrets, don't you think?"

“You would be surprised how many different people can fit in one ‘world’,” Ahna says as she puts her cup down. “I travelled mine for a very long time. Every day would bring me to a new place with new people and a new culture. Some are more accepting, while others are more dubious of outsiders. Double for us Av’rae.” She runs a purple finger over the rim of her glass as she speaks. “Surprisingly, the Orc kind and the Dwarfs are more accepting of my kind than, say, the humans are. They often welcome us Av’rae into their holds while humans tend to shoo us away if they can.”
At the mention of Roxanne and Ahna’s shared friend group, she can’t help but smile. “Yes, there is something about Roxanne. She puts up her walls, but I can tell it isn’t what she wants to do. I think I’ve caught certain looks from her, but I cannot be sure.” She gives a little chuckle. “And Coatl is good people. A nomad, like me. I can trust a fellow nomad easier than a house-dweller. No offense intended, of course.” She gives a little smirk, lip piercing glinting in the afternoon light that filtered through the window. “I can tell you two are close, and not for the same reasons I am.”
She shifts in her chair as she mulls over the prospect of a journey. “I do have a few orders to fill for the town, but as a nomad journeys are in my blood. How far and for how long are the questions? It depends on how much I will need to bring.”

Katiana did not doubt that humans were somehow less accepting of those who looked as different as Ahna. She knew the worst of them would discriminate on the shape of one's eyes. Of course, a pair of horns and purple skin would set them off. Still, she also knew the best of them; her parents, her siblings, and so many others that she met while on the road. Briefly, Katiana wondered if Shyv disfavored humans for similar reasons humans disliked the Av'rae in her world. If nothing else, at least she did not have to deal with that at Port Argentium. A few were like Katiana, from worlds more ordinary than fabulous, but most were used to the strange and the fantastic. There seemed to be one of every fairytale the hunter heard as a child. Right there in camp. Faun, cat people, bloodsuckers...
Just as she was thinking to comment on traveling with her new friend, the Av' decided to make quite the comment on her manner toward Coatl!
Katiana coughed through her nose and put a hand on her chest. "Pardon?" she squeaked, then giggled in a high, brittle manner. She waved away the thought and answered her next round of questions instead.
"Weeks. Even with Bashel. Far more than a fortnight. Perhaps one and a half moons. The moon here isn't the same as my world, however... is it the same as yours?"

Ahna enjoyed the reaction she got from Katiana when she spoke of her dealings with Coatl. She could see that look in the eyes of both of them, that little twinkle that she hadn’t seen in a little while now. She doesn’t press however, instead just enjoying the moment for what it was - her friend damn near choking on her whiskey.
“Weeks?” Ahna asks, then looks to the window. She spends a moment stroking her cheek in thought before looking back to Katiana. “I have some projects and orders to finish, and I will need to find someone to tend to my land while I am gone. The foreman owes me a favour, I’m sure he can send someone to feed my chickens.” She gives a light shrug and a smile. “If you can wait until I have finished those orders, then Bahsel and I would be glad to join you.”
She kicks back in her chair in thought, wondering about all the things they will find. “But… if I am to bring my Vardo, we would have to stick to places it can go. I am not about to leave it behind if we come across impassable terrain.”

"If you can do that in one month," said Katiana, holding up her fingers, "That is when I plan to depart. In a few days, I plan to search the ruins where I found the splintered wind instrument. That should take two weeks, and then I'll spend one week here before I depart on another, shorter quest. I think Roxanne should be keen on following me in that one. She seems like a noble warrior. You would think pillaging old buildings would be a favorite of hers. Perhaps we can find her a new weapon?"
Katiana thought about the issues with the vardo and hummed. "Then we will have to find a way. Perhaps we will have to make camp here and there and make a smaller journey through more difficult terrain before coming back. It'll be good for mapping, don't you agree?"

Ahna smirks at her human friend, of which the notion of having such a thing was still a farfetched, yet very real thing to the Av'. "You underestimate me, my friend," Ahna says in her heavy Av' accent. "I will have these things finished in, oh…" she kicks back in her chair with her glass in hand as she did some mental planning. The gears turned in her head, calculating the raw material she had and needed for her orders, going over who still owed her favours, and finally what supplies she would need. "Coincidentally, two weeks. I will be ready to go. Funny how this works, hm?"
"Is she still unarmed? I thought a woman like her would have a sword stashed away somewhere," the Av' seemed a little curious about that, wasn't Roxanne of noble stock? She figured they would guard their weapons with their lives. "We will find her something, if not… I have some locked away that she can borrow. Perhaps. Depending on what she has to offer in return. The pieces I own I would not even let you borrow without insurance."
She puts her glass down and turns it ever so slightly, causing the rings on her fingers to glint in the light that streamed gently through the window. "I can agree to that," she muses, considering the Vardo. "Bahsel is as fine a guard as he is a beast of burden. He will keep my things safe as we traverse more difficult terrain."
She kicked back again and crossed her booted feet under the table, one hand pulled back with her elbow resting on the back of the chair. "I think we have a plan, hm?"

"Excellent! Well, you will have one week more, then. I will have to spend less time in town and depart with Roxanne as soon as I arrive. I think it's important to spend a bit of quality time with each of us before going on a longer trip altogether. We never did get to know one another too well, that Roxanne and I. Can you imagine? If she turned out to be some kind of monster!" She snorted through her fingers. "I think she's just a little too big for her breeches, though. Not too bad a sort."
Standing up, Katiana hoisted her cup. "To adventure! We have it all planned out. Just before we embark, I will place my first drum of skins into a barrel and bury it in the cellar." She sighed, knowing it would take another year for them to be ready. "I do hope the bark and nuts I found will produce a good product. I think half of it nearly killed Laute, poor thing."

Shyv'Ahna

Roleplay posts: 51
Allegiances: The Av'rae people.

Ahna gives a light shrug as she sits back in her chair, the pieces of jewelry in her hair and on her horns catching the light as her rings had before. She must have been quite wealthy to have all those pieces, but then again her people did have a reputation…
"If she were a monster, she is a patient one," Ahna mused quietly as she considered Katiana's words. Then she smiled at her human friend, her pearly whites clear as day. To anyone who looked closely, it seemed that her canines were just that little bit longer than most humanoids. "But if she is, I am certain between you and Coatl - the forces of good - and myself would do just fine in stopping her reign of terror before it begins."
"I think you are right though, my fine human friend," she continues as she straightens her legs and stands at her full height. "As I said, she is of noble blood. They are, and forever will be, too big for their breeches." She then raises her glass in a ring laden hand. "To adventure."
She takes a sip of her whiskey, careful not to waste any of the good stuff, and sits back down, fingers now idly tracing the rim of her glass. "If I did not have my own equipment and resources, I may have commissioned you. But much can happen in a year. Save me some scraps, hm?"

Katiana laughed. "There will be much more to come! One barrel is not all I plan to store. Lady Naoki has supplied me with a lot more tannins than I could use, I just used the bark to supplement it. What else are we to do with the skins of everything the hunters have been killing, anyway?" Even if half of them were too damaged to use. "And for you... perhaps you'll have a few good warming gifts in exchange a year from now." She winked.
Their day drinking went on for a while yet while they spoke merrily and enjoyed Katiana's new abode. As evening came, Katiana opened the door with a gasp. "Goodness! How long have we been in here, do you think?"
